This was my second time coming here, and just like the first, I'm still not sure if this place is on its way in or on its way out. I was the only person sitting at the bar, even though a DJ was playing (maybe just for me?). For a place that calls itself a Biergarten, the beer selection was very underwhelming. There were only about five beers on tap, and the fridge looked half empty. I had just hopped over from Sideward, was working on something on my phone, and thought I'd give this spot another shot. The place was empty except for what looked like two bartenders and the DJ. I ordered a beer on tap, but it was warm -- and at $8, definitely overpriced. At that point, I just drank it, listened to the music, and didn't bother complaining. I'll always support local businesses, but if you're going to call yourself a Biergarten, then live up to the name. Otherwise, call yourself something else. Def not the place for me. Felt like I walked into a dive bar for a motorcycle club... just didn't feel comfortable from the moment I walked up. Came in for a comedy night and the comedians were meh. I understand that everyone has to start somewhere but comedian after comedian they just didn't hit the mark. Also, the bar doesn't serve alcohol. Womp womp. Maybe the comedians would have been funnier if I had a sip or two. Not my place but if you're looking for a neighborhood dive bar with an intimate atmosphere, this may be right for you. read more

I frequent in the milk district but just came across this little beer bar the day after Thanksgiving. The space is small and quiet, very laid back, and the selection is 2-3 taps, and 1 full size refrigerator with various beers, and a couple of wine selections. The owner is one of the only (if not the only employee) and he hosts trivia nights Tuesdays and comedy nights Thursday and Saturday. He was very friendly and spoke very highly of the comedy nights' reputation, saying that it typically sells out weekly (50 person capacity) but that being a holiday weekend there would still be seats available. We went onto Eventbrite and bought $15 bar seat tickets right there at the bar, then went back the next day for the show. With so many people travelling from New York and Atlanta to see their Orlando families over Thanksgiving, the show featured at least 10 comics of different ages and backgrounds. It was definitely worth the experience and change of scenery. I imagine outside of a holiday weekend those nights might looks different (more local comics). The owner said on occasion when a big-name comedian is performing at Dr. Philips Center their opening act will come perform. Tickets are $10 for general seating, which is fold out chairs lined on the floor in front of the stage. read more

We came there on a random weeknight to see a comedy show. It was my boyfriend's first time seeing stand-up and we were not disappointed. We bought our tickets online for about $10 which guaranteed that we would have somewhere to sit. We opted to sit in the second to the last row in the room, and it was cute how the place was set up (twinkling lights hanging above us). The beer was delicious and kept flowing, and the comedians were absolutely hilarious. I like how they turn down the lights and someone would go down the aisles periodically and ask you if you need a refill. The bar was located directly behind us, and those seats were considered premium, so you had to pay about $15 dollars more to sit there. We will be back! read more

I recently discovered the Thursday night stand-up comedy show, which starts around 8 pm! They typically bring in several different comedians, and often, these folks are hilarious! The tickets are $10 per person for floor/general entrance and $15 per person for the bar seating! We prefer the bar seating, and it's such a fun and cozy setting for good laughs and some drinks! My husband, son, and I went here Saturday later afternoon. It was next to empty on the patio and we had many options of seating. It was great to not feel crowded with people. The owner/manager/bartender was so friendly and brought us out menus (Benji, I think was his name). They had a very large bottle list of beers and a nice variety of beers on tap. I have been going to Barley & Vine for many years now. It's a fun little spot with a great beer selection and the owner Benji is a hoot. Five or six years ago my friends and I would do Tasty Tuesday then walk over to B&V for trivia every week religiously. I haven't been for trivia in a long time so last night we decided to check it out. I forgot how much fun it is! It's a unique trivia experience, it's hosted by Benji and he makes up the categories for the questions which I love. Some of the categories are: Gross Benji (questions about stuff he thinks is gross), If This Was A Pot Question Weed Know It (a question about pot, duh, lol), We Say Gay (a question having to do with the LGBTQ community) and a word jumble to name some. I forgot to mention it's got a punny name as well, it's called See You Next Tuesday trivia, lol. I highly recommend checking out trivia, we had a really good time and in my opinion it's one of the better trivias around. Aside from trivia and yummy beer they have comedy shows! We went a month or so ago on a Saturday night to the comedy show. There were about five or six comedians that got up and did short sets. It was indoors in the bar area and you could choose whether to purchase a bar seat or a seat in front of the stage. We opted for bar seats so we could easily get drink refills. It was a fun date night and it was nice to do something different. I love that B&G offers this. All in all, if you haven't been to Barley & Vine you are missing out. It's a Milk District staple and one of the places I think of when I think about Orlando spots I love that make Orlando Orlando. Cheers! read more

Yay for the first Biergarten in the Milk District!! I went for the soft opening and am looking forward to returning when they're fully up and running. The inside is not huge, but has a 2 long beer garden tables and a looooong bar. I can't speak to much to the inside though because I spent the whole night on their lovely outdoor patio. We're talking tons of beer garden tables (not the little picnic tables you may be thinking of, we're talking narrow, yet long, minimum 10-seaters. The patio is paved and lit by string lights hanging from the tree above. Dogs are allowed in this area and the patrons were taking full advantage! It was great!! We had two servers coming around and one was more talkative than the other, but neither seemed to really know what beers they had available. We had some beer-lovers in the group and they had a hard time getting answers, but I chock it up to this being a brand new place. They'll have it down in no time! I ordered a Florida Cracker (Cigar City Brewing) to begin, but went with the Left hand milk stout after having a sip of a friend's beer. It was delicious and tasted like a cafe con leche. The weather was perfect and the mosquitos left us alone (it was a springtime miracle!). We checked out Barley & Vine this afternoon for the first time and really enjoyed it. Its a fairly small place, but they have a large outdoor seating area. Since we hadn't been before we ordered our first drink at the inside bar, then moved outside where a waitress continued helping us out. I think they had a really good selection. My friend drinks beer & cider while I just drink cider. They had 6 bottled ciders and another 2 (I think) on tap - which I thought was a pretty good selection, especially since they had a couple I hadn't had before. We both started out with the Cigar CIty Apple Pie cider which we both really enjoyed. I then moved on to the Rekorderlig Strawberry-Lime cider, which the waitress said was good. It was AMAZING and a 17 oz bottle which meant it filled up the glass and then some. Its served over ice which was great with the warm weather. I suggest going on Sundays because they have.... FREE FOOD. On Sundays they have someone cooking up burgers and brats (along with some sides) that are FREE if you are drinking. How cool is that? So we were able to get some tasty food to go alone with our drinks. I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, the friendly staff, the free food, and actually being able to hear the person I was with. I've been hearing about this spot for a while and finally made it!! It's a little dark, small, hole- in-the-wall place. The great thing about it is the location, outdoor patio and bartenders are on point! It's not pretentious, not dirty, just a great chill spot for beer, trivia or enjoying the weather on the patio. We just happened to go on a Tuesday night when they had trivia, added bonus! Benji the trivia host was charismatic, funny and engaging. The trivia alone is a reason to return or go out on tuesday! They have a huge selection of beer and a great variety of craft beer, local beer and even sours. The bartenders were very helpful and knowledgeable explaining the different varieties and let us try samples. We've been here a couple of times now, and it's a fun place. they provide local brews, which are constantly changing. That said, it might be difficult to find your favorite brew from visit to visit if it's from a very small brewery. They also have a limited selection of wines. They have both indoor and outdoor seating available. Inside, tales of a projector screen where there's usually some TV show or movie playing. They do have some tabletop games available for play, such as Jenga. That said, there aren't very many of them, so they might not be available on a busy night if somebody else is already using it. One final thing, parking is extremely cramped. The parking lot is tiny, so most likely you will have to do street parking in the adjacent neighborhood. It's a bit of a hassle, but not that big of a deal. As far as I can tell, it's drinks only, no food. There are places to eat nearby, or otherwise plan on eating before or after you come. read more

Cute place to grab a beer and chill for a few. I met a friend here for a drink before we headed out to an event together. One beer and I was tipsy?! Wait what? Have I become a lightweight?! .... gone are the days of "Liquor before beer you're in the clear" .... ugh, so old now! They have a variety of craft beer. It was really difficult to choose. Brandi F just ordered something for me and I drank it. It was pretty good. I have no idea what the name was. I'm sure it had hops in it though. It was a weeknight so there weren't very many people, but I could see it getting filled up on weekends especially the patio area outside. The bartender was helpful and it was clean. When you take numbers like "25" and you attach them to words like "beer taps" - I get happy. The craft beer menu here is long and thorough, and I've seem some interesting choices available. So far they seem to be doing a great job at representing what is out there in the local Florida craft scene, too. Cider selection is a little slim though, compared to the number of fruit beers they carry! More dubbels and tripels than you would be able to find at most bars. The patio will be extremely popular for the 3 months a year that Orlando cools off...nicely shaded, and offset from Bumby Avenue enough that you don't notice the traffic. The beer garden vibe here could definitely trick you into thinking it's a lazy Fall afternoon, no matter when it is. The service is laid back and comes off a little confused, so just start a tab and go to the bar when you want something. They also keep their beer menu up to date on their website (which I wish other bars in Orlando did a better job at!) so points for that. Trivia on Monday nights, and although there is not food sometimes there is random free food being grilled or boiled somewhere in the beer garden (or there is Pho across the street). read more

This is a great little spot in the Milk District. Located on Bumby (right beside Pom Poms) this little gem popped up out of nowhere and has become a favorite of mine. It has a medium sized indoor bar area with a great selection of both draft and bottled beers. I don't drink wine so I'm not sure about the selection, but I know they have quite a few. There are a couple TV's inside, and about 6 high top tables. The outside patio is really where it's at though. With about 10 picnic tables, and a nice covered (from shade) seating area, this is a great spot to enjoy some cold beverages. There are a couple TV's outside also if you're looking to watch a sporting event (say, Orlando City Soccer). Unfortunately they do not serve any food, but they don't mind if you bring your own. Prices are pretty fair, and the bartenders are very nice. This is a great spot that's usually not too crowded, and in my case, not too far from home. read more

B&V could easily become a contender in the area for outstanding craft beer selection. In addition to their draft list, they have a substantial bottled beer selection as well a nice variety of ciders and wines available. To all those individuals who dislike craft beer, but want the Biergarten experience, you have multiple options that won't leave you with a dry glass. The CCBC's Apple Pie Cider smells sweet and tastes sweeter, so cider novices may take comfort in something that tastes like drinking Granny's Apple Pie. It's really great that B&V has a different cider on tap besides Angry Orchard because most places only offer AO as their only draft cider option. The only hangup I have is that the extensive menus do not publish prices, so its a little hard not to sound like a cheap skate by asking "how much is XYZ?" The Sunday afternoon patio special of free food to those enjoying their beverages provides some tasty options to soak up your brews. Burgers, brats (they have vegan-friendly brats, too!!), corn on the cob, coleslaw, and sliced watermelon help transform the patio area into picnic vibe. Tipping the BBQ maverick is appreciated. The atmosphere is welcoming, and when the weather cooperates, the patio is definitely where I need to be. The inside bar is a little snug, so take the party outside. I have been to Barley & Vine Biergarten a few times and each time I love it a little more. They have a great outdoors, TV's both inside and outside, fans outside for the hot summer & winter nights, giant Jenga. Beer - They have a nice selection of craft beer at a reasonable price. However, if you are looking for a hundred options then this isn't your place. Food - Complimentary peanuts, otherwise NONE. However, you can bring in food. There is something that sets this place apart from places like Redlight Redlight. First of all, I do love Redlight Redlight, but on band nights you might as well learn sign language, because you won't be able to hear yourself think in there. One of the many things I love about this place, it that it has just as extensive a beer menu as the other places, and its small and intimate enough to hang out and have a drink, or head outside and set up camp at a table (Cards Against Humanity marathon anyone?). Plus the bartenders are super nice and personable here I never found myself trying to crowd surf to get to them to order again. On a hot afternoon/evening, this is my go-to place. I love it here! Once you navigate around the highly suspicious massage parlor you find yourself in Milk District heaven. Remember to close the front door! You always have a friendly bartender patient enough to explain what this "beer" stuff is. Honestly, the wine selection is pretty crappy. Don't come here for wine. Come here for beer and a good time. Dogs are welcome! There is an indoors and outdoors section, both with televisions. Feel free to let the bartender know about a game you want to watch. They will gladly change the channel. You also have a bunch of board games to choose from. Giant Jenga is fun to play or watch strangers play. Even if it's raining, the roof over half the outdoor section has you covered. The best part about Barley & Vine is people watching. Sometimes they have odd gatherings for a local something or other. I enjoy the improv group every other Saturday. They only serve some complementary peanuts. Feel free to bring your own food. I often come in lugging around multiple containers of complicated Pho or a sandwich from Pom Poms. They don't care.
