Nicely decored intimate spot. I liked the banquet seating with pillows that made it extra cozy. It was a slow Monday night with most of the guests at the bar. Came in late night just to check out their $10 Monday martinis. There was limited options to just a plain or dirty vodka or gin martini. No other variations or anything else from their cocktail menu was part of this deal. Blue cheese stuffed olives were a dollar a piece and tasted great but don't think I needed the 3 that was automatically given. They did seem hand stuffed with fresh blue cheese instead of the already made kind so it tasted better than most Having been to a few of their other Good Salt group restaurants, this definitely had their signature touch with all the details and the delicious menu. I like checking out all their locations. Another one of restaurant was a few doors down The server forgot my simple request for ice and lemons in the beginning when ordering just water. She also didn't check on us after dropping off the drinks and had to get someone else nearby for more olive juice when my dirty martini seemed to have missed the dirty part. Getting the check seemed to be a task, no server in sight, and had to grab another employee to ask for it From just ordering waters and martinis, service was quite lacking. Sparrow is one of my FAVORITE bars in Orlando. I have been multiple times and enjoyed every single bite! This time I was excited to see some new menu items. Of course we always get the tomato gimlet. I'm not even a huge fan of gin but this drink is amazing! Next we started with the caramelized brioche and bone marrow. The caramelized brioche was unreal. The crispy bread and warm Brie topped with balsamic was the perfect combination. The bone marrow was great and the tomato topping on it was so yummy! Last was the spinach artichoke gnocchi. This was AMAZING. You have to get the perfect bite with the ricotta, sauce, gnocchi, and artichoke. Our server Sophie (i hope i remembered her name correctly) was fantastic!!! The vibe was so good last night they had the disco light on and it was dim and moody lighting. We went Saturday night and it was decently packed. A hidden gem! This place has a very cozy and intimate vibe. We popped in for happy hour which is from 5-6 Monday through Saturday (yes, Saturday!) and were able to grab two seats at the bar. We were seeing a show downtown and just wanted to get a round of drinks and some apps beforehand. They have a decent selection on the happy hour menu. We got the Tinto De Verano and it was so refreshing! The bartender kept making a cocktail with tomatoes and when I asked her about it, she said it was the Tomato Gimlet and it is the most popular drink on the menu, so I am going to try that one next time. We also ordered the carmelized onion dip and castelvetrano olives. Both were delicious and I was surprised when I saw how many olives there were. This place feels vintage, but it's not. They had cool music playing and looks like they are ready for a DJ in there. The dishes were beautiful and the food delicious! Came to Sparrow for the first time for one of their monthly afternoon tea events, and the space alone makes an impression. The restaurant is gorgeous, cozy, stylish, and the kind of place you actually want to linger in with its comfy seating and relaxed vibe. The afternoon tea comes with a gourmet three-tiered tray: a cheddar scone with homemade butter and blueberry compote, four tea sandwiches, and four beautifully crafted desserts (including a lovely Earl Grey profiterole). Most of it was delicious, though I could have skipped the beef and tomato sandwich, it was quite bloody and made the bread soggy. There were about ten teas to choose from, which made the experience feel customizable and fun. The staff was friendly and attentive throughout. They do not do this service regularly, it appears to maybe be quarterly or just be for holidays. The tea service itself includes a selection of fairly basic teas. One thing that stood out (unfortunately) was that we weren't provided glasses of water. We asked our server multiple times throughout the service and never received any, which took away from the overall experience. We also ordered the crudo and cheese plate as add-ons, and while we were excited to try the truffled goat cheese, it was substituted with brie without any notice, which was a bit disappointing. The tea tower featured four savory bites: a ham and butter sandwich, deviled egg, flounder, and corned beef, along with a savory scone served with blueberry preserves. The dessert selection included carrot cake, a peanut butter egg, a homemade Peep, and a fig tart. Everything was flavorful and well-prepared, though overall quite salty and rich. One of the biggest drawbacks was the strict 90-minute time limit. Rather than feeling like a gentle guideline, it was treated as a firm countdown, with frequent reminders of how much time remained. This made the experience feel rushed and took away from the relaxing, leisurely pace that afternoon tea typically offers, especially after ordering additional items. The ambiance itself is charming, and the concept is fun, but the service and pacing impacted the experience. Overall: 3/5 stars for the price and experience. I would give it another shot. read more

The intimate dim atmosphere of Sparrow Wine Bar is such a vibe. The service is also amazing. Our server gave us some drink and food recommendations, and everything was fantastic.  The Tomato Gimlet was definitely my favorite thing I tried. I am such a tomato lover and this drink was everything I hoped it would be. My favorite bite of the night was definitely the focaccia. I wasn't sure how the blue cheese and honey would be together on the bread, but the combo was amazing, and the focaccia was nice and pillowy. We also ordered the Roasted Eggplant and the Pan Con Tomate. The Roasted Eggplant came on a puffy bread and was topped with peppers and onions. It was a good combo and I enjoyed it a lot. The Pan Con Tomate tasted good, but it came to the table a little soggy.  The prices are definitely steep, but worth it for the quality and the experience. Yes, it is a bit pricey (their pricing on the menu online is accurate)... but it was absolutely delicious! My friend and I started with some Tomato Gimlets since we love tomatoes. PLEASE TRY THIS! I know it's a wine bar, but I promise you the Tomato Gimlet is not at all like a Bloody Mary. It was a very sophisticated and enjoyable beverage. The Focaccia was absolutely mind blowing. On first glance, blue cheese and honey seem like a questionable combo but they work so well together. My main entree was the Rigatoni Verde which was incredible. The short rib was so good and the noodles were very tender. We finished up with a glass of wine (I mean we HAD to try the wine... 10/10 recommendation from our server) and the very rich and decadent chocolate cake (which was TO DIE FOR). Ambiance? 5 stars. Food? 5 stars. Service? Definitely 5 stars. Everything was just excellent. We arrived on a Friday night around 6:45 pm, and the only tables available were outside. I was a bit surprised that they were fully booked inside, given the time. The hostess apologized and said that if we wanted to sit inside without waiting, we could go to Reyes, their sister restaurant. Nice of her, but no: if I came to Sparrow, I want Sparrow. We ended up sitting at a high-top table outside which, despite being small, wasn't an issue since the tapas-style dishes and serving plates were also small. Our server, Jackie, was extremely friendly and quick; she explained the menu and brought us water right away. I asked to try two red wines and, even though my friend hadn't shown any interest in drinking, she immediately asked "can bring the two samples for you to try as well?". Quite generous. We both ended up ordering a glass of Malbec each, which paired quite well with the food. For starters, we ordered the Pulpo and a side of bread with olive oil. I assumed the Pulpo would come grilled, but I clearly overlooked the fact that one would hardly get grilled octopus at a restaurant of this caliber for $18. I was a bit disappointed to see preserved octopus served from a tin (which, according to our server, was "just for show") and not in a very generous portion. The flavor, however, was excellent. As to the bread, it was toasted just right, and the olive oil (definitely Spanish) paired beautifully with everything. After that, we shared the Arroz Negro, which was without a doubt the best dish of the night. An explosion of flavor. Again, the amount of seafood wasn't exactly generous, but the taste and texture were simply di-vine. I squeezed some lime over the shrimp and boom. Perfection. Not fully satisfied, we ordered the Basque Cheesecake which, while tasty, was more of a reinterpretation of the true tarta de queso vasca. I was expecting a dark, caramelized, burnt top forming a thin crust, but I didn't quite get that crust. Yet, it was delicious. I might come back just for the cheesecake and a cup of espresso if they're open in the afternoon. The cherry on top of the cheesecake (tu dum tsss) was the birthday postcard the server brought, signed by several staff members. I truly felt appreciated. Big kudos to Chef Jennie (who always kills it) and Jackie for such a memorable dining experience. Bravo! read more

Me and a couple of friends went out to dinner and had the absolute best time. I was able to try the wines before I was poured a glass which I loved. Our server was named Amanda and she was such a sweetheart. She was very patient and offered great recommendations for wine and food options. Definitely recommend her service. When you walk in, the atmosphere immediately feels elevated and intimate. Dim lighting and the music set the mood but allowed conversation. We got the granita margarita and the new Cuban. The mar was spirit-forward and delicious. The new Cuban for us missed the mark and tasted more like prune juice. The girl's dinner was absolutely great and the Caesar salad was probably one of the best I've had. On paper, Sparrow ticks all of my boxes - gorgeous midcentury inspired design, an eclectic pan-European menu, a BIRD LOGO!, and an impressive and unique wine list... but in execution unfortunately it fell flat. My group of four was seated at a very low, very wide round table, which are waitress had to explain how to get in and out of because of the chair situation. The first half an hour proceeded normally, we put in cocktail orders, perused the menu... Then around 9 o'clock the disco ball came on. We thought this was a cute little gimmick at first...everyone snapped photos, oh so cute... then we realized the music volume had also come up... and the disco ball was staying on. And now, combined with our extra wide table, plus the nauseating pattern of the disco ball, conversation ground to a halt. My friends and I had to yell at each other across the table to attempt a conversation. We passed on dessert and got out of there as quick as we could so we could actually finish our catching up. It's a shame because the food we had (focaccia, shoestring fries, steak) was really good, it's just that the volume and atmosphere made it unbearable. I want to come back and give Sparrow another shot, but it needs to be thought of as an early evening, happy hour or appetizer type of place... Certainly not the focus of your evening. read more

We heard about sparrow a while back and I'm really happy we finally got to have a girls night out to try it. We did make reservations prior since we read that the space is smaller and intimate. The interior is SO cute and aesthetic!! We grabbed a few things to share. My favorite was the mushroom pate which I read was good, so it did live up to the hype (definitely not what I expected, but in a good way). Our waiter was nice and willing to give recommendations. My drink was definitely too strong for my liking so if I ever come back then I'll definitely choose something else. My sister ordered the martini, and the menu said it came with a pintxo so I guess we had different expectations because they called the drink garnish the pintxo...(we're a little sad about that but I guess we're used to eating pintxo that are more like tapas on a stick/skewer). The one thing I am disappointed about is that we checked out the online menu before coming and saw that late night happy hour was advertised and would start at 9 pm...but when we were seated and given the menu, it said "coming soon" and our waiter told us it would be a few months maybe before they start that. To be honest, the whole reason we made a reservation so late was to catch the "late night happy hour" which didn't happen. We were a little bummed about that, but it was definitely a cute, new place to try. read more

When I saw via email Sparrow was in its soft opening, that it's a wine bar AND it's the newest restaurant from the Good Salt Restaurant Group, I went the very next day with my friends and we were not disappointed! Pressley and Giselle were our servers and they checked on us frequently without being obtrusive. Such a great duo, knowledgeable about the food menu as well as the wines. Normally my camera eats first on everything, but somehow I only got a pic of the Caesar Carpaccio, which was our favorite dish. We loved running the Tuna and Salmon Crudo through the crumbs that were left on the carpaccio plate. The Mushroom "Pate" was an extremely close runner up for favorite dish. Say Cheese, without adding either of the extras, was a fantastic cheese board, and was a really great size. We also had the truffle fries (I truly love whenever I can order truffle fries), which were perfectly cooked, not overly truffle-y, and stayed warm and crisp for a long time. The final non dessert item we had was the focaccia, which is loaded with carmelized onions and blue cheese. The dessert we shared was the Sparrow Chocolate Cake (my vote for Basque cheesecake was overruled); like everything else, it was fantastic. I love the inside; it 100% has a lounge vibe, with music you can hear but you don't have to scream over, and lounge seats that look typical but for the fact you can turn the chair to get into it without having to pull the chair out. Such a simple touch that I couldn't get over and had to tell each friend as she arrived. There's a small bar that maybe seats 6-8ish people; I didn't get to actually count the seats and I had a friend count them, but that was over a week ago and I have forgotten what she said. I will 100% be returning to Sparrow and recommend it to you and yours. read more

My wife and I made an early evening reservation at Sparrow for the second day of their soft opening, and we can't wait to return! The staff seemed to have a little bit of nervous energy (which I would expect for any soft opening), but they had no need to be nervous as they all did a great job and took wonderful care of us. We started with a couple of cocktails. I got the Highball Martini and thought it was a wonderfully refreshing drink, perfectly balanced. For food, we ordered the Mushroom "Pate" and the Say Cheese (cheese plate). This was a great combo because we were able to mix and match the cheeses with the pate. When we return we're excited to try some of the other vegetarian options! We were seated at a low table with comfy chairs and loved the chill ambiance. The Good Salt Group has done it again and opened a fabulous new spot in the North corner downtown. We were lucky enough to be invited to a preview event and it was wonderful. The vibe here is very different than their other restaurants. Small and intimate with a great selection of custom cocktails, wine and small plates to share. The interior is so well designed, chic and comfortable. You could easily host an event here or have an intimate evening for two. The cocktails are solid, but the star was certainly the food. The beef carpaccio Caesar was delicious. They seared it a little bit for those who are nervous about carpaccio, it certainly added to the flavor. And the tuna and salmon and crudo was simple, but perfect, the flavors were excellent. Service was good for a new spot, but definitely they're still working out some of the kinks. Glad we stayed late enough to hear the music vibe change and the disco ball get turned on. It was amazing, such a vibe! We went right when they opened at five. The restaurant looked gorgeous with the sun going down, lighting up the burgundy(?) curtains. They had lit candles to add to the lighting. The actual lights had a soft glow. The music was perfectly loud, covers of older songs. It felt like a modern version of a prohibition jazz bar. My friend said they thought it was a place the mafia would go. The You're a Star Milk punch was sweet and strong. I absolutely loved the Tomato Gimlet, it was like a caprese martini. deliciously savory and paired with the Cesar Carpaccio so well that I would have licked the plate. The octopus was perfectly cooked, I think slicing it was an excellent idea to make sure the thicker pieces cooked at the same time as the tips. The oil had delicious flavor and the potatoes were tender. The Sparrow Martini was clever. I liked the "birdseed" garnish. It had a variety of nuts and seeds, that weren't basic. Garnished with an olive, herring, and blue cheese olive. Added to the flavor of the Gin. The Highball was balanced well, I like that I ended with it to have a smooth finish. Bartender was knowledgeable, I overheard her talking about wine with a couple at the bar. I saw the manager(?) doing table touches when people were eating, but after an amount of time that made sense to actually see how they enjoyed the meal. Sparrow wine bar was so much fun! We went during a girls night and the vibes were perfect. Order a few things that were all delicious. The tuna and salmon crudo melted in our mouths while the focaccia had so much flavor. We also had some classic fries with an amazing truffle salt! It was a great place to start and service was on point. We received most of our choices by recommendation from our server. It's definitely a great place for a date night or girls night out. Absolutely enjoyed this place! Walked in and got lucky with seats at the bar! Sophie was a wonderful and talented bartender; extremely knowledgeable and provided great recommendations! We ordered the say cheese to begin, and it was great! The vodka pasta was perfectly cooked! The sauce was velvety and had just enough spice to take it to another level. Cute little wine bar/restaurant in N Downtown. The food tapas style but are a decent size for most items that you do not have to go crazy ordering. Service, as with every Good Salt restaurant was impeccable! read more

I came to the soft opening with my folks. I was a little worried that coming for dinner would miss the mark- that this place was more of a tapas and wine bar. We had a backup plan to go to Reyes if we didn't like the menu. Well, we were pleasantly surprised and left stuffed! We were seated at a table with velvety soft chairs! I looked around and saw all the tables have various chairs. We had the grey velvet ones- very nice. Service was stellar- starting from the host seeing our arrival and opening the front door for our entry, to the servers and busboys making frequent rounds. The managing partner also came to our table to chat. Nice touch! I ordered a mocktail for mom, which she loved, and I had a few cocktails throughout - the milk punch, their sazerac, and their gimlet. All were good. I wanted the sazerac a bit colder though. We started with the Jambon (I would not recommend, because it's boring, the cheese isn't that spreadable on the veggies and there is way too much butter.) It's a glorified crudite plate with some ham and toasted bread. Next up was the Caesar carpaccio. The Caesar crumb topping was awesome. I wished for a few more capers to add a little more salt. The filet au poivre was cooked perfectly. Texture was like a dry aged steak. Good portion, about 4-5 ounces. Sauce was a bit salty. Loved that they sliced it for us. The pasta vodka was fantastic. A little spicy from the chili oil, good sized portion, saucy, but the diced ham was too salty. The sole meunière was fantastic. It was a huge portion- dinner sized. The arroz negro came with a large prawn on top. The rice was good because they blended in some toasted quinoa for texture. The prawn was great but the chopped up pieces had too much old bay style salty seasoning. The mushroom "pate" was a star. I wish it was served warm instead of cold but the flavor was spot on. We wiped that plate clean with the accompanying bread (it is the same bread as jambon dish). I forgot to order the fries! Oh well, next time. We had seen pictures of the chocolate cake prior to arrival so we agreed to have that. It did not disappoint. It was "Japanese" to me in the sense of the textures and it wasn't overly sweet. I also added the ice cream, which I would not recommend. It's nothing special. Although it is likely homemade and you can see the vanilla throughout, it was called burnt but I don't know why? The chocolate was solidified on top like one of those at home toppings but I'd say the ice cream was not special nor memorable. They might consider adding cornflakes to the chocolate for a crisp crunch like fried ice cream or maybe making the "burned" part more noticeable? Like dry ice? I dunno, but I would skip that dish. The menu has a page dedicated to tea party but I can't figure out how to find the dates or reserve online. So maybe I'll have to call. Me and the girls would love to do that. Overall- we were pleasantly surprised to enjoy a nice a la carte style dinner. Plates came out in reasonable time. Some were very salty. Service was stellar. Played and silverware were changed as needed throughout. Drinks were fantastic and that chocolate cake was so good. The wine list looks great but I was in the mood for cocktails since no one else was drinking. We will be back. Thank you! read more
