I have used Barnard Tire nd Wheel for the last 12 years and have been very happy with them, until the past two weeks. I was to trailer my horses to Houston (3 hour trip) and had not used my trailer in a long time. The electrical system needed to be looked at as well as the tires evaluated. I stressed to them to go over the trailer with a fine toothed comb, as it had not been used in a while. Long story short - after two visits, they jury-rigged the electrical system and did not evaluate the tires because they said the "tread looked good." While traveling on Hwy 59 outside of Houston (at 60 mph), one tire disintegrated and the one right next to it was ready to. I had 4000 lbs of horses in the trailer and was by myself on the freeway. Very dangerous. I was able to limp to a Discount Tire in Rosenberg where they replaced all 4 tires, since they were all bad. During this time, I also lost all electrical and trailer brakes (something jiggled and they came back after a while). After speaking with Barnard in a courteous and factual way with pictures and receipts, they decline to give any kind of a refund. This was SO DANGEROUS. I implore you not to use this company. They are interested in your money only and could give a flip about your safety. They are not the same company they used to be before it was sold. read more

I took my car here back in January , for them to repair my air compressor . I bought them the air compressor and just paid for labor. Here we are 3 and half months later and the brand new air compressor I bought is not kicking on , I went up there 4 days ago and showed them a video of it not kicking on and they told me it wasnt no good basically it's locked. My uncle took the air compressor off so we could go get a new one while in the process he seen that they drilled a HOLE IN MY MOTOR and drilled a HOLE IN MY BRAND NEW AIR COMPRESSOR . I went back up there today to let them know their mistakes and next thing I know they were calling the cops and told me I'm not welcome back and they don't want nothing to do with me. I'm a very reasonable person all I wanted was my car fixed, a refund or even a discount on the labor . They wouldn't do nothing about it so now I don't have a running car , brand new air compressor and can't install it because they was "doing what they gotta do" . then try and say it's my fault , I'm very disappointed in my service and how I was treated . No communication , price tripled And they didn't even fix the issue. Dropped My car off for oil leak and check engine, I was quoted 1100$. After a week I started calling daily asking what was going on. Never got any answers, they said they were waiting for parts which was fine. I specifically said I only had the 1100$ quote if it was going to change I needed to know. After 3 weeks it was ready I went in and they said 2800$! I asked for an explanation of what they actually did and why I was never contacted about such an increase, Mike the owner and another associate brought me to a small back room and cornered me and mike the owner said "We have your car if you don't want to pay it doesn't matter, leave it. " after being intimidated with no explanation of what was done we went to the car and the dash Board was still all light up. Check engine light and more. New to the area and wondering who to trust with my car being a recently divorced woman, I chose this shop twice. First time for state certifications, impressed and treated very well. More problems, brakes, a knocking sound so I went back. The mechanic Jimmy explained what he found, suggesting I take my vehicle to the dealer as it should be covered under warranty and needed immediate attention. In this business and word today, they could have done the work without telling me and handed me a large bill... Even more impressive, they handed me my keys and charged me nothing! Once they find out what is wrong with your vehicle or you just need new tires, etc, they tell you the price upfront. I went there recently to get a leak fixed on my tire, and once they found out that I was going to get a ride home, they pushed my car to the front of the line and I was able to wait for it. I had a screw in my left rear outer dually tire. I bring truck in, gets fixed and I leave. I noticed my tire sensor said 88 PSI, when my door tag says it's supposed to be 65 PSI. So I bring truck back. I was told pull the truck up to the bay to get pressure adjusted. The original tire tech who fixed my flat, starts to tell me that he followed my door tag tire pressure and that my tire preesure can't be 88 PSI. I told him that he was mistaken and to look at the door tag again and tire preesure. So he looks at the tag and says, I put in 80 PSI because that's what the spare said. I was then expecting him to say I'm sorry, but nothing because I was correct. The counter gentleman was also helping the tire tech out and was already lowering my preesure. The tire tech ask his co-worker how much preesure did it have, with a reply of 88 PSI. So the tire tech says to me, "our air compressor doesn't go that hi". I said most air compressor go to 150 PSI. He says, "ours doesn't." The counter gentleman said nicely to me, "maybe our PSI regulator is bad" and I aggreed. At this time the tire tech gets mad at me and says, "you don't have to be a prick". I told him I'm not. Then he had a few curse words for me. The counter gentleman was shaking his head, knowing the employee shouldn't have acted out like this to me, a customer. Then I told the counter gentleman and this irate employee, "isn't the customer supposed to be right. So the irate tire tech told me to never come back and I never wants to see you here again. I ALSO WANTED TO LET EVERYONE KNOW, HIS TIRE IRON USED TO PULL OFF TIRES DAMAGED/SCRATCHED MY CHROME RIM. These were brand new rims and tires 8 months ago and they never had damaged until now. Look at the picture of the fresh flat spot on edge of rim. I know this place is highly recommended and been around awhile, my company I work for use them. I'm assuming this guy was new to tires and lack of training. If your a dually owner, you know your valve stems are suppose to be rotated 180 degrees from each other. My truck came in the correct way and left with valve stems together. I'm assuming this guy was new to tires business and lacked propper training. read more

The worst customer service I have ever had with a business. Went to have tires rotated and balanced and a TPMS sensor looked at. Upon completion of the work prior to leaving I walked around to look at the rims and one was badly scraped up during the process of the repairs. Manager at the desk denied they had done any damage when you could clearly see the damage to the rim. When I brought this up to them they immediately became defensive and talked down to me. I asked to speak to the manager but was told they would be back later. I returned when the owners were present and they chose to side with their manager. One of their own employees stated how this most likely happened during the process of repairs. The Owner and Manager were not willing to admit that they had messed up the rim nor take care of it. Now I am stuck with a bill for $476 to replace the damaged wheel. Not to mention that the truck drives worse now than it did before I took it to the shop to balance and rotate the tires. read more

I've been buying tires and having flats fixed here for the past 20+ years. I've never felt pressured to buy tires I don't need unlike other tire shops. Any tire that I've requested that wasn't in stock was either there later that day or the next morning. They are quick to dismount, mount, and balance making downtime very short. I came across a young man with 2 small children who was stranded with a blown out tire and no spare because it had blown out on him a few days before and he hadnt gotten it replaced. I picked them up and started calling around. Barnard's answered their phone at 7:10AM, even though they dont open until 7:30. I took the young man and his tires there with the intention of having new tires put on and taking care of whatever part he couldnt afford to pay. We dropped the tires off and took the kids to get some breakfast. When we returned, I was told that they had two "very good" used tires that were a perfect match. They installed them for free and a gentleman who works there (Mike) covered the cost of the tires. These people care about others. They have earned my business and I will refer everyone I know to them. read more

Took my car in today because the heat stopped working in my vehicle. After about 2 hrs they diagnosed the problem and it was fixed by 3pm for a reasonable price. And on top of that, they were able to take me to work and pick me up which made me not have to call in or miss any work. Highly recommend...friendly, fast and service oriented. Was headed out of town with my son and a loaded auto and noticed one tire was low. Had less than 4K on the car so tired are almost new. Found a nail - slow leak. Went by the competition and they wanted to sell me a new tire. These guys did the right thing and plugged it in about 10 min. Made it to central TN and back without so much as dropping one p.s.i. I am a retired mechanic. I have my own shop at home where I still do work for friends and family at no labor charge to them. After completely rebuilding the front end on my 03 f150, coil springs, spindle bearings, upper and lower ball joints, pitman arm, idler arm, tie rod ends, and upper and lower control arm bushings, (all with the highest of quality parts manufactured in the U.S.A from rock auto). I then paid a visit to Bernards for an alignment. (I do not have an alignment machine). A few minutes after (supposedly) looking at my truck, I was informed that the "original" steering components needed to be replaced as they had 250,000 miles on them. They obviously did not look at my truck. New parts LOOK and feel like NEW parts. This is NOT an honest shop!! read more

By far the worst customer service I have ever experienced at a tire shop. I called in advance to see if they were busy and they said they only had two vehicles and they could work on my horse trailer. I wanted to have all 4 tires replaced and my new spare to be put back in the tack room of the trailer. Upon arrival I was almost backed into by one employee who was backing up a dump truck that did not have working tail lights. I was unable to back up because a delivery truck had pulled behind me. I gently honked my horn to let him know I was behind him. The employee jumped out of the truck and started to yell profanities at me and made rude gestures for me to move out of the way. Once I was able to move the employee continued to back up the vehicle and glare at me. I then pulled into a parking area that had no signs or markings that would indicate I was not allowed to park there. I was then met with another employee that asked why I was parked there and that I needed to move, when I asked where he wanted me to move he said he didn't care as long I wasn't parked there. I told him I had an appointment and would check inside where they wanted me to park since he couldn't tell me where I needed to move to. Once I was inside I talked to an employee by the name of Eric that took down my information and was helpful. We then walked outside to look at my size tires and select which would be the best fit. During this discussion the initial employee I came in contact with cane out of once if the vehicle bays and told Eric that I needed to move and that he Couldn't do his job because I refused to move my truck and trailer. Eric then Instructed me to move back behind the shop and drop of my trailer and they would move it up once the other trucks were finished. I accommodated them and moved my trailer unhitched it and went back inside. Eric told me it would be a couple of hours and that he would call me when it was done. 4 hours later I called to check in to see it was done. I was left on hold for 10 minutes, then when I called back they said the trailer was done. When I arrived I checked my trailer and it had not moved. The tires had not been touched and the tire that was in the tack room still had the original blown out tire on it, confirming nothing had been done in the last 4 1/2 hours the trailer had been parked there. When I also arrived there were no cars in the bays and there were no vehicles out front being worked on. I hooked up my trailer and left. Upon calling them to let them know how dissatisfied I was I asked to talk to the owner and Eric and was continually hung up on each time I called. I always try to support local businesses, but this shop is a total disappointment and employs some people who are unprofessional and crude. read more

Totally ripped off/ horrible experience Took my Dodge diesel truck in for repair, truck wouldn't start after sitting for a few days. When I took it in I told them it will start unless you let it sit. Nope said nothing was wrong it always started. Of course it kept happening. Took it in several times saying still had the same problem. They decided it was a bad starter. I told them I didn't think so but if they could guarantee that was it and would resolve the issue to go ahead. $550. Dollars later--- yep still the same problem. Took it back in then they said it was my camper that I have in my truck drawing the batteries down. Nope I keep it plugged in, not it. Once more wouldn't start had to have it towed to the dealership. It was a short in the ignition switch. All the times my batteries were drained it ruined my two batteries in the truck so another $ 300. dollars thanks to Barnards ineptitude. Went back to Barnards and talked to owner Mike. Told him it was obviously not the starter and plus they charged me double the price of a new starter besides. Asked if the even bothered to test the starter once they pulled it to make sure it was bad- nope just assumed. No refund given did give me a store credit for $ 175. VERY Helpful after costing me over $ 800. Dollars in unnecessary repairs. Plus they gave me the "stupid woman" attitude. Worst experience I've ever had for any repair DO NOT ever go there for a repair. read more

This place is overpriced in Bastrop. (i.e., Mike quoted me $40 per bushing to press new bushing into A-arm when Austin Machine Shop quoted $8 per bushing) Barnard Tire would cost me $240 for eight (8) bushing and their competitors charge $64. What's up with that!. read more

I was a faithful tire customer at Barnard for many years. I bought at least 10 tires from them last year and a similar number in previous years, largely on the skill of Eric, the man at the counter. But I tried them as a shop for the first time last week. After getting a price, I left my 2008 Ford Expedition for a major repair. I was told if I left it early in the week it would turn around in a couple of days. Two days later I got a call saying they had questions before they would START. I called the next day. I'm a skilled mechanic myself and have done this exact repair on my other Expedition. They wanted to sell me an oil pan gasket (oil pan doesn't come off for this repair) valve covers (which I had JUST taken off and put back on, they were like new) and valve cover gaskets (I had left an extra set sitting in the front seat of the truck). Plus he couldn't say when it would be done. If I weren't a skilled mechanic very familiar with that engine and vehicle I might have been convinced to spend the several hundred extra dollars and been FLAT RIPPED OFF but I took my truck back instead. You may or may not want to buy tires from Eric but no way would I ever recommend them for repairs. People only get one chance to lie to or try to con me. read more
