This is a good place to come for books if you're near Coronado Mall. We are members of their loyalty scheme too, as we buy lots of books. If you are like us in that sense, the loyalty scheme is good value. There are two reasons we are not fans of their coffee shop: first, they have one of those "dark pattern" card payment devices. It makes it very hard when you are paying to leave no tip. You have to keep hitting the damn "no tip" part of the screen over and over for it to work. You should know that this is a deliberate choice on the part of the management. When they buy the card readers, they can choose ones that make it hard for someone NOT to leave a tip. It's a dark pattern you can investigate on YouTube. And it's a really evil thing to do. Shame on the sleazy manager who made that decision! It should be illegal and they should be punished. Second, and this is a problem going back YEARS, if you get a hot drink, it is very likely it will be super hot, like nuclear hot, practically burning through the cup. It will be at least twenty minutes before it's a safe temperature to drink. You think I'm kidding? I'm not, and you've been warned. PLUR, baby! Bonus complaint: My God in heaven, they interrupt with harsh and seemingly unnecessary messages for staff over the loudspeaker very, very often. I know it's not a library, but it is a bookstore. The staff at Barnes & Noble Booksellers was very helpful on November 26, 2025 when I inquired about the location of a new book. The first young person who helped me directed me upstairs. Perfect. I found one lone copy, but where are the other 39 that she mentioned? I needed 3 copies, 2 as gifts for Christmas and an upcoming birthday. I looked high and low. Nothing. So I approached the older man upstairs. He finally exclaimed, "Ohhhh, the rest of these are being retained for a class, so what I can do is order for pickup for you." I appreciated the kind service, but I had to head back home to the southeastern part of the state soon. It's two stories and quite spacious even with many others shopping. I can't blame the staff we were just there not even a half an hour ago or so. There was only one gentleman at the cash register, one gentleman running the customer service area and one lady running the coffee shop. There were lines of people waiting to be checked out it's 2026 people. Also they were putting up some kind of light or chandelier and the machine that they were going up and down on was grading to the ears and it was happening the whole time I was in the store so I just grabbed a few things and left because it was so piercing and hurting my ears imaginary anybody else in the store. You couldn't put that up before opening or would you open when no one was in there or closed you had to wait till the middle of a Friday afternoon? Do you need more help? I applied 1 million times but apparently I guess you don't need any more people. read more

We used to enjoy browsing BN for new books. Since Covid, they don't have as much in the sale section. We use the sale section to try new authors. And unfortunately I can often get the same book from Amazon cheaper. We do like to browse and want to support our local BN so we come several times during the year. We were so excited to find this bookstore right next to our lunch destination!! We went in and found a neat book on beer made in monasteries - the perfect gift for a beer judge who was stuck in the hospital for a few days. We also got a fun kitty game, a crochet kit for beginners, a coloring book and a magazine- $120. Love the bookstores, didn't realize how fun it was to browse inside of a store, it had been awhile. we will definitely be back!! read more

While I prefer shopping local it's hard to do when it comes to books. Local bookstores are dwindling, replaced by the megastores with both large physical & internet presence. Instant gratification is a wonderful thing. I like the discounted section - mostly coffee table size books but still some interesting subjects. Over the years the overstuffed chairs have disappeared replaced with benches and wood chairs. This store is bright, well stocked and uncluttered. Employees are helpful, but frequently hard to find - most are helping other customers. I like the ability to peruse books and make a selection while enjoying coffee from the imbedded Starbucks. Looking for a guide to my new camera. It wasn't in stock and had to be purchased online. Prices are full retail with no discount unless you are a member of their reader's club. That comes at a cost also - ya gotta buy a lot of books to break even on this one. read more

I like the selection of books as far as commercial books go. I was looking for a local author and didn't have any luck. I did find several books that I found interesting. I found the staff not very helpful. They seemed to be more attentive to each other rather than customers. I didn't know the title of a series of books by a particular children's author. Tried to return a book I bought within 30 days and had no receipt. They informed me I couldn't get store credit and that I needed to return it at the original store in RR. I read the return policy and it says I could get store credit and it doesn't need to be at the original store. The night manager and cashier can shove it. Bad experience. read more

Coronado Center Bookstore! This place is a nice, two story book store on the edge of the mall. They have a pretty good selection of books and magazines. The prices are list price, right on the book. Don't expect any specials or sales. I was taken aback at how much a book goes for these days! The seem to be lacking enough help. I went in not knowing where I was going, and had a difficult time finding a clerk to point me in the right direction. Then, when checking out, there was a super long line. When I got to the front, they put out a call for all available clerks to come to the front and assist with checking people out, and the line moved quickly thereafter. They have a good selection on local books by local authors about local subjects, and New Mexico cookbooks. There does seem to be some local flavor here. There's also plenty of places to sit and lounge around checking out the books before you buy. I enjoyed having a seat on a little bench that they had sitting out. They offer memberships, if you prefer to shop here versus Amazon, that it might be a good deal if you're going to spend $250+/year on Barnes & Noble books. Great store! Great little cafe! WORST COFFEE I HAVE EVER HAD!!!! They are unable to serve HOT coffee. Not sure what the problem is, but they seem to be unable to solve it. Maybe someone should ask Starbucks how they do it.....? Maybe the water is not hot enough....? How hot should the water be? Is the water hot enough?? How long can you let it set before you need to through it out and make a new batch? Maybe the solution is to make smaller batches more often......?? All questions to be answered if anyone cares..... We always look for a book store were ever we go, and Barnes & Nobles is always easy to find. This one happens to be really big, with two stories. Once inside, I head upstairs to find the craft section, and spend a half hour or so looking through their selections. Once I have pulled a few, I spend another half hour or so browsing. I head down stairs to find my husband and mother in law browsing the magazines. He with coffee in hand. Good store, clean, neat, organized well, spacious. read more

I was just here about a week and a half ago and I picked up the Metallica LP "Garage Days". Aside from places like Target and Walmart, this is pretty much the last place in town(maybe even in New Mexico) you can find a huge selection of movies, CD's and Vinyl records. They also have a cool selection of cool stuff on the second floor, including graphic novels, manga, Star Wars, Lord of the rings and Harry Potter Memorabilia. There's also of course the amazing selection of magazines, books and all kinds of awesome things. Barnes and Noble has something for everyone. read more

Well this one and only Barnes & Nobles in NE could use some good review. My go to place for reading and finds. There's a starbucks cafe inside that's very convenient for coffee readers like me. This Barnes has good set up for people who come to pick up a book and read. Scattered seats not close to each other and pretty good size kids section where kids can read as well. I definitely recommend this bookstore for avid readers. I just dropped in today to get reads for this summer. 5 bargain books for $30! There's a book for every budget and everyone! read more

They seem to be shrinking the Sci fi section, but loving sci/fantasy, that is disappointing. But the "horror" lovers like me, go directly to Amazon from now on. There no longer is a horror section. A tiny metaphysical section I was directed to by a helpful employee. SO if you want any horror books, you won't find any here. How weird. Unless you know the authors name. Shout out to Wendy. She let me pay for the journal that I bought in dimes. I have been eyeing the design of the journal for months now. It really meant a lot to me that she took my quarters which allowed me to finally own the beautiful pattern of the journal. Wendy gave me excellent customer service. She was very nice and didn't give me attitude about having so much change. Barnes & Noble is my FAVORITE book store. I am, also, a member. A solid B&N. Not the greatest, and not the worst. Right in the middle. It's size is decent, and though as some have mentioned the upstairs is primarily children's book and toys. Most don't mention the fact that there is a movie and music section upstairs as well. It has a Criterion section (for those that know) and they're now carrying vinyl that is comparable to Amazon's website, and that's even before your membership discount. I say this, because there are B&N's in larger cities that don't have that area in their stores. Feel fortunate, because you get a little extra amongst the normal books, and magazines. B&N has been my go to when I need to get out of the house and study, but can be a pain some times. With this store being attached to the Coronado Mall on a busy day you get a lot of people and with people comes noise. Not ideal for reading and studying, but great for business. I usually pull up a seat in the cafe area, when I can find a seat, and let it be noted. This is not a Starbucks, but a B&N cafe that sells their product. So your apps and your Starbucks gift cards have no value here, but if you're once more a B&N member you can get that discount (shameless plug). This is a good, solid B&N, and can hold it's own with other stores in the chain. Right in the middle, and just right. Yeah, a little noisy, and busy, but hey, that comes with this location. read more

I used to like coming and spending time in this B&N; sadly with each visit over the last year I would honestly prefer to avoid it. With their decision to make most of the upstairs an area full of children's games and toys (which is probably great for people looking for something to do with their screaming toddlers), there is so much ruckus going on all over the shop and thus erased the enjoyment of a bookstore for someone who likes to peruse the aisles in peace. The Starbucks at this location cannot take payment from the phone app, and routinely can't manage to fill up the cup of whatever you've ordered so doesn't seem worth waiting in what is always a long line. read more

I'm not so hott about the prices, but when i need a gift, a new treasure, or my nephew is looking for lang/lit reading material i come here... i do prefer the small indie bookstores for sure.... or just even cozing up with the smell of recycled old books. aside from that, my experience today was ace! its the only time I've been in a barnes and noble where the customer service desk scared the shit out of me as she yelled at a kid not to play on the escalator... after she screamed, " DO NOT PLAY ON THE ESCALATOR". I applauded her success at scaring the kids and scaring the entire store! GOOD job! I am really tired of Barnes & Noble. Same stuff all the time. Overpriced and overloaded with all kinds of junky gift stuff that no one wants but everyone buys because they can't think of something inventive or creative to give. Disheartening. We do shop there on occasion, of course. Sometimes you just need a big bookstore. But really not my favorite place to go. I'm tired of megastores and cookie cutter shopping. This particular B&N is almost always busy, has the requisite display tables of new stuff up front and through to the coffee shop, and the discount section is always rough and tumble after people paw through it. The Nook table is ever growing - surprisingly. Does anyone buy those? I thought Kindles had kinda swept the market... The upstairs is okay, nice kids section, and again with the bargain tables. The biggest problem with this store is - no connecting door to the mall. Not that I'm in a hurry to get to that,mall, but it's extremely weird and depending on the weather, can change your plans in a hurry. Basically - it's a Barnes & Noble. Really nice discovery considering the iffy existence of physical B & N stores; this is a giant location reminiscent of the one that used to exist on the Upper West Side of Manhattan before "Forever 21" took it over (and probably something else by now). Two levels with escalators, massive selection in different categories including my favorites, biography, music and art. If you're in Albuquerque it's a bit of a drive up Menaul but worth it! read more

I have never experienced such fake customer service from any other bookstore. It's sad that their experienced employees just go through the motions as if they have something far better to do than answering legitimate questions. Evidently, management seems to keep their long term employees that I have had several experiences with that continue to just go through the motions instead of really doing their job. With on going experience at this location, I really get the sense that management is very comfortable with sub par employees and would not hire someone who really wanted to be a great employee. Not a standout Barnes and Nobles. It is kind of small. A solid bookstore chain, and overall I enjoy the shopping experience.They have mostly new releases and popular old releases. Decent magazine section. It is a chain- and usually a bigger better one at that. Still it is nice to go and fondle books and you can get your other favorite chain Starbucks-?and drink your double latte skim in the store and no one will care. If you need to decompress after strolling the mall, this is a good bet. read more

Barnes and Noble is less evil than other big boxes because they're selling books, which explains the noble in their name. Yes, it's better to support a mom-and-pop bookstore, but if I'm by a B & N and drop in and peruse the books and games and magazines and plop myself down in a corner for a period of time, that's ok. As far as the selection and prices, I think both are pretty average, which for being a big box makes them bad. Still, selling books is almost like public service, so I'll always be a bit gentler on B&N then I'd be on other cajas grandes. read more

Bookstores are quickly becoming a thing of the past which is heartbreaking to me. I'll admit that I am a part of the problem - I rarely purchase a book from a brick and mortar store as I can find it much cheaper on places like Amazon or for my Kindle. However, bookstores like Barnes & Noble hold a special place in my heart and I love browsing the shelves. I could spend hours there. They don't have the nostalgia of mom and pop book coves but they also don't have the feeling of exclusivity which makes them more appealing to those who just want to enjoy books. This location is fantastic. It is large, well organized and easy to get to. The staff are friendly enough as well. I hope that B&N will continue to keep this shop open and that I'll be able to continue dropping in! read more

Out of the two B&Ns in the ABQ area, I'd have to mark this as #2. The parking is sometimes bad, and mall-rats enjoy trying to run you over as you walk across the street. Inside the coffee-shop is decent, with a good array of seating, and decent selection of books. Yes, the upstairs is mostly "not books" - toys, music and children' section. There is a neat little "nook" for kids to read and peek outside at the mall folks. The downstairs could be better utilized for "real" books (e.g. categorized ones", not the ever-present aisles of discount books. The magazine aisles are a bit thin (in width, not choices), so one person browsing, is "one person too many." Bottom Line: while grateful for a brick-and-mortar bookstore, if I want a relaxed trip, I will hit the cross town one. This one is good for a browse-and-go, or a quick-run-in. read more

Was looking for a book for a Christmas present that was autographed. For some reason those autographed books never made it to the El Paso TX/ Las Cruces NM area. I called this store and spoke to Shelly. Although they didn't have the book I was looking for Shelly took the time to help me locate it at another Barnes and Noble in Texas. Thanks very much Shelly!!
