Lots of parking and the store was organized and clean, so why only the 3 stars? I pre-ordered a book several months ago that arrived with a stain on the front cover, rather than risk them shipping another I decided to go to the store (30 minute drive) to do the exchange. After roaming around the store, I finally found the book (upstairs) and the restrooms (downstairs) - did I miss the store directory somewhere??? - and headed to the line. It was just before noon on a weekday and only one person was working at the register. I was 6th in line and 3 of the people ahead of me had complicated transactions involving B&N membership, what tote bag to pick out, etc...... FINALLY another employee came to the register (no one called for her, she just happened to be walking by) as I was the next in line, my exchange involved no paperwork and took about 15 seconds. During peak times, a second employee really needs to stay close and help out!!! read more

Huge selection at this location and an adjoining large coffee shop made for a perfect pit stop during a long drive. Was a bit chilly inside and I was hoping for a better selection of discounted books but found a really special soup cookbook so I left pleased. read more

I love coming to this B&N. To both shop, and to read. They have these comfy chairs upstairs. However there's only 4...so if they're all taken, you're out of luck. Considering the size of this location, I wish they had more! Especially some by the windows would be nice. Still, I love this place. read more

This is for the MAGAZINES ONLY! I have been going up to the Burlington Barnes and Noble to get my UK British Magazines and other hard to get print magazines for awhile. Yes I know I can read them on my kindle but I am a snob. This is a special treat and I pass them on to others so they get plenty of of use. This store has gone way down hill! They carry the most obscure magazines now! I don't know who even reads these ! Yuck! read more

Love the bookstore! First time and last time at the cafe yesterday. Ordered 2 cake pops....one was completely raw/uncooked inside. Mentioned it to the staff who told me their recipe is different than Starbucks and basically "tough luck"!! Inedible, threw it out and wasted my money. Awful customer service! read more

I went to the Burlington MA location last night and found some changes that I was not at all crazy about. My sister told me there was a corporate change (maybe a buyout?) and that explained the changes. There used to be a huge selection of bargain books but no more. They used to have a large section for music. People could listen with headphones before purchase. Gone (that part could be long gone but it used to be there). The non-fiction area seems to have been downsized with a much smaller selection. Sis told me each store now is able to make whatever changes they want. I think I am going to check out the Salem NH store. Hopefully they will still have my 'bargain books' and expanded non-fiction area. I was very disappointed. One of those BNs with a pretty large selection, owing to its humongous size. It's practically a book mall! They also have a ton of learning toys for teens and children, as well as game/anime figurines for not-so-children. Prepare your wallet for these though... There's your usual Starbucks... wait, not Starbucks, but yes Starbucks cafe. (It's confusing. They don't accept Starbucks gift cards. That's all you need to know.) (Note during COVID-19: Escalator suffers from a mild case of "what the heck am I doing in a bookstore???" and, as with many BN escalators, breaks down often. So glad to know a big bookstore like this exists and they are open until 10PM! That helped with the holiday shopping season and to stop by after dinner. Starbucks inside and had a decent amount of people for late at night. Plenty of handicap parking but the doors to enter are not automatic making it difficult. Prices are a little high but that's life now. Sad to know a rewards program that I thought was always free is now $25 a year. If I read more it'd be worth it. read more

Very unhelpful and rude. Noticed when another customer asked her a question she was nothing but sweet. Please implement diversity training for her. I went to your store today looking for a specific mug that showed it was in stock online, but I couldn't find it. I spoke with Jeff at customer service who helped me look for it, but we still couldn't find he. Jeff enlisted the help of Kirk from Starbucks and these two gentlemen ran all over the store looking for the mug for me. I really appreciate their efforts. They went above and beyond and showed amazing customer service. Unfortunately they could not find it. I am only giving 4 stars since I went to this location specifically to get that mug, and it showed three available, but they couldn't find any. read more

I actually like this place and today I joined the paid membership to support them staying open. I had just bought food and drink at Starbucks so at the register while buying a book I asked if I could upgrade and get the 10% on the food I just purchased. A grumpy manager came over and without smiling or greeting or looking me in the eye mumbled to the cashier I couldn't get money back on the food. The nice cashier said "really? Even though she just bought it?" He muttered something about policy and left. I get company policy but I don't get his attitude. Learn something from Trader Joe's and try to be pleasant or your customers will retreat to Amazon! read more

I strongly suggest that if you are driving to this particular B&N, you let the person with the lowest blood pressure navigate you to the store and through the parking lot. The traffic in this area can be quite congested with the Burlington Mall across the street and so many other stores along Middlesex Parkway. The parking lot itself can be a bit troublesome through which to navigate, especially during the holidays. Once you get inside, you will see that this is probably one of the largest - if not the largest - Barnes & Noble in the Boston area. As with just about every store in the chain, the front of the store is exclusively devoted to high-profit Nook items, and some of the other departments suffer space-wise. They did add a decent board and strategy game section in front of the cafe. It has a lot of games I might want to purchase, but I can get just about every single game cheaper somewhere else. This store has a really nice magazine section up front and a large children's section upstairs. There is plenty of room - especially upstairs - for copious amounts of books as well as displays for special sales. As I recall, they have quite a few chairs upstairs for reading too. read more

Now think of a book store on steroids, swarming with people to help you, yes - YOU, find exactly what you need and you get some idea of why this B&N's parking lot has been packed since it opened. A book lover walks in and man, it is sensory overload! Where to go? What to see? Do I check on the magazines on topics I never even heard of before, or go stay on track and just get what I came for? But to walk out with just one book....what if it gets lonely on the way home? I should get two, at least. OH! A sale! More books I don't need! ROWS of them! If you love books, don't go in alone. escalator does not work, which means you need to take an elevator, which is not safe during COVID. I had to wait in line for over 10 minutes even though there was only one person in front of me. Most of that time, they only had one person behind all of the registers even though there was something like 8 employees on duty. I'll order online or go to Belmont Books. read more

It's a very good bookstore. I will say this that Starbucks in Barnes and Nobles is the best Starbucks in the state of Massachusetts hands down there's not even a second place. I go there almost every day after work regardless of the crowd size they always get the food done right and consistently. Almost all the corporate Starbucks are a horror show for the inconsistency, messy restaurants. Very small staff, bizarre hours. This Starbucks in Burlington is amazing. The best café I've ever been in. If you have a chance I highly recommend you try it. You won't be disappointed. read more

Came into B&N looking for a particular medical book and sought out the greeter to help direct me where to go. Upon hearing that I was looking for something involving medicine, she asked if she could review a book that she just read and loved about physicians! Although I cringe at paying full-price for books (I usually go to the lib or buy online), this kind of personalized service is what makes going to a brick and mortar store worth it! Ended up finding what I came for, buying the recommended book and grabbing a few books from the large Bargain Selection area. read more

I really love this Barnes & Noble. I've been coming regularly for over a decade. I just went this past weekend, and the employees are so helpful and friendly. I was really impressed! I love their area filled with planners, notebooks & knick knacks. I am total sucker for all their office & paper goods they have downstairs. The staff here are always very helpful and knowledgeable, it seems to me, so I am not sure where the negative reviews come from. I honestly think some people imagine attitudes that just aren't there. As for this store, I go here all the way from Sth Boston to buy UK and other music magazines, since many B & N including in the Pru Center have now gone. Wow I love this store and so do my kids. Knocked off a star because of our sour puss-of-a-cashier, who looked like she just jumped off a 1970's Heart record album. No greeting, just dumped our stuff on the counter after scanning. Aren't you suppose to scan and bag....scan and bag.....slow like molasses and looked drugged out. I absolutely LOVE this Barnes & Noble location. All of the employees I've encountered here have always gone above and beyond to help me when I needed assistance. What prompted me to write this review was an experience I recently had here. I walked in with about 20 minutes until the store closed (I know, I know, BAD customer) and proceeded to try and find the book I was looking for. So now we're at a measly ten minutes until closing and I asked one of the women working if she could check if it was in stock, since their online inventory was showing that it was. This woman did not act like I was any inconvenience to her, when she really would have been totally justified in saying "look we close in ten minutes if you want to come back tomorrow"....she checked their system and saw that there was only one copy left and then helped me find it (it wasn't in the right spot). Like I said earlier, she could've very easily told me to come back tomorrow and that would have been an understandable. But she went out of her way to help me and I appreciate that. read more

The man at the cash register asked if I was interested in $7.99 for three months membership. I agreed. He did not say that I will be charged $7.99 every 3 months forever. I try to cancel my membership many times. They made it very difficult and 5 payments later I still being charged. It is wrong and unscrupulous! I've studied in Barnes and Nobles in the past and have never had any issues, but this particular store doesn't have any outlets available even in the Starbucks just FYI. After getting coffee I found an outlet relatively close to my table, so I shifted my table and stretched my cord to plug it in. This employee (I wish I knew her name) then walked up and VERY rudely said it was a fire hazard for me and my cord to be there (which I definitely understand). As I started moving my stuff back she finished with "WE provide the free wifi but YOU need to provide your own power. YOU need to move." I was so shocked at how rude she was when I was already moving back and apologetic. I immediately left and am never going back to this Barnes and Noble. Me - "I would like a small coffee" Starbuck - "Would you like a medium coffee instead, it is only 50 cents more" Me - "No thanks, I prefer you DON'T SUPER SIZE ME!!!!!" The Starbucks at this Barnes and Noble location consistently and very aggressively pushes larger portions. I even jokingly commented about that practice to one of the servers. She said that her management would get her in trouble if she was caught not pushing the large sizes. The nerve!!!! So recently, I would go up and say (with a smile of course) "small coffee --- and no I do not want the large size" -- (hint, hint). The bookstore, on the other hand, is truly awesome. This location is two floors full of books. I even found an introductory book to database and another one on statistics that are written in Manga style :) I am tempted to buy the database book for our technical library just for a joke. The book selection is really good. The is a decently huge selection of computer books (I buy lots of those). We probably come here at least once a week. Oh yeah, a big plus is that they are open till 11pm every night. read more

For the most part, it is easy to navigate, although one thing I would like is if the computers in there, when you enter a search query, would tell you what section a certain book may be in in the store. This is by far the BEST Barnes&Noble throughout the entire state of Massachusetts. No question. Period. I love this location. It's really the best bookstore. Ever. First, the location is great. Directly off Route 3, across from the Burlington Mall, and very close to the new Kings & Wegmans on Third Ave. Second, the staff here are always around the store (there seem to be SO many of them!), and lots at the checkout and in the media area. I've never had to wait in line here, and the register staff and the floor-staff have always been able to help me find everything I needed and more, all being extremely friendly and in a great mood (am I dreaming in this store?). Third, as I said, the store is large, 2 floors for that matter. And lots of space to move around as well as lots of place to sit and read a good book. There is also a café on the first floor that you can read or bring a laptop (that applies for most Barnes & Noble locations.....) Finally, there are self-serve computers here! For those rare moments you can't find a staff member, or just want to look up something yourself, there are many "SEARCH" Computers throughout the store. Making book-searching easy, self-serve, and fast (plus, these computers are only available at few, select Barnes&Nobles). Overall, amazing bookstore. Definitely make sure to stop if in the area. read more

Great store for perusing books you want to buy much cheaper online. Some books are reasonably priced when on sale but any book I'm usually interested in is full price. Unfortunately they just can't compete with online prices and I rarely ever need a book within a one week timeframe. The store is always busy and sometimes the parking lot can be very crowded. They do a great job managing the lines at this store making sure enough people are on hand to cashier. read more

To previous reviewer: good luck finding an independent bookstore in the Lowell area. That should have set off the alarm bells when we were thinking of relocating to the area, but we plowed ahead anyway, and now the Burlington B&N has become a home-away-from-home of sorts. Sure it's a chain, but are you going to go to a crappy, disorganized, only open 9-to-5 local joint that only carries old ripped paperbacks of James Patterson or Janet Evanovich? Barnes & Noble has become a staple of the American chain circuit. Like it or not, it's here to stay, especially around towns where there is simply no way to keep a local place running profitably. Having a large chain like this allows us to have a good bookstore nearby, wherever we live, and I for one am eternally grateful that there's one in Burlington. Huge selection and great hours (open till 11!) make me keep coming back. read more

The cafe people are friendly and the cookbook selection is vast, but it is almost impossible to find an open seat beside an outlet to study or work. Perhaps this was intentional, but I prefer B&N's that have ample seating at large tables, preferably with outlets to plug in a laptop. This is a nice B&N, but I'm used to seeing better. I like their tables of book selections that are labeled with signs that read: "Summer Reading," or "Back-to-School Reading," or "Banned Reading." I would like to take a snapshot of each one of these tables throughout the store so that I can keep some nice reading lists handy. read more
