My family of 10 had an amazing time at the Greenwood Tree Farm! Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendliest man (dressed festively as an elf!). He helped us with all of our needs and was so speedy and kind! We loved the festive music playing---our special needs daughter was over the moon to hear her favorite songs from Disney's Frozen. We found this little hidden gem 3 years ago, after scouring the Metro-West area for a fresh Christmas tree. I mean nothing against the parking lot offerings from local groups and individuals, but we wanted more of a family experience. We found it here at Greenwood Tree Farm! Located on a bumpy dirt road in Billerica, you feel like your driving "over the river and through the wood" to some place unknown. At the end of that little road, you'll find smiling faces and plenty of fresh-cut trees (or cut-your-own). After you get your tree, the friendly people will secure it to you vehicle while you warm your hands wrapped around their free, warm apple cider. The quaint little store has their Christmas decorations proudly displayed all around inside and out. From fresh pine swags, garland and wreaths, mistletoe kissing balls, to adorable personalized decorations for your home and/or Christmas tree. My first time visiting Greenwood tree farm and I am glad I did. The surroundings are gorgeous and you are greeted by friendly peopled all dressed in Christmas attire. I saw one dressed like an elf and one dressed up like a Christmas tree! The trees are organized by size and you have a choice to cut them down or buy one precut already in a stand! They are priced according to size but if you cut one down the highest you could pay is $65 dollars! There is a pond in the back with ducks and a fenced in area where they have the cutest goats and prettiest horses! Outside the gift shop there is a variety of unique decorations made from tree clippings, wreaths, kissing balls, bouquet inside logs, and swags! Inside the gift shop you can have a complimentary cup of hot apple cider and taste their home grown honey. The have donuts, honey, cookies for sale as well. In the other side of the gift shop you can browse through and purchase some unique ornaments! I could spent hours there and decorated my home all in one stop. I will definitely be back. read more

FACT - Went shopping for a tree "late" in the season (December 19th, to be exact). Needless to say there were not oodles and oodles of trees to choose from, BUT the ones they had were all in good shape. FACT - I called MANY other tree farms asking if they still had trees on their propriety we could chop ourselves and by December 19th, no one else had any to chop. All other places I called only had pre-cut left. FACT - Greenwood Tree Farm supplies saws, tied the tree to the car, and offered free apple cider. They also had a little gift shop selling wreathes and beeswax items (the owner of the farm is also a bee keeper). FACT - Staff were really friendly and available to answer my questions. FACT - the prices were reasonable for the trees with a range from 50.00 to 75.00. I will point out this farm is CASH or CHECK ONLY!!! THE BEST PART........ FACT - We set up the tree on December 19, 2009. WE did not take it down until February 2, 2010!!!!! VERY FEW NEEDLES!! Probably the freshest tree I have ever seen after having it in the house for so long. read more

What a wonderful place to get a Christmas tree! They have a large array of trees choices, from tiny to grand. But every tree is very plush - no Charlie Brown trees here. And everyone who works there is very helpful - there is even an "elf" to help answer all of your questions. We were originally going to cut down our own tree, but those are mostly on the smaller size. If you would like a 6 foot or taller tree as we did, those are already freshly cut for you. They will even do a complimentary trim of the trunk. If you experience a chill, they offer free apple cider. I recommend a cinnamon cider donut to get alongside the cider. Especially if you need a sugar kick to perk you up before setting up and decorating your tree! Definitely worth the drive. And be patient with parking, it will open up. Cash or check only! read more

trees, glorious trees!!! warm cider and honeys. uhhhh . . . that's about it. greenwood tree farms has trees, wreaths, honey and other christmas-y stuff. pre-cuts from $45 - $75, but the real fun is to grab a saw, walk through their fields, spot a good tree, walk some more, spot a better tree, walk some more, repeat a few times then try to remember which one you saw before is the one you actually wanted and cut it down yourself for $65. ("wait, which one? was it the one on the right or the left? or the one back over . . . there?" "it's the green one." "oh, ha ha.") greenwood was one of two places left in massachusetts that would let us make with the choppy chop the week before christmas. we just took tree-tree down this past weekend after 2 weeks without water and it barely dropped a needle on the carpet so, fresh cut is the way to go. the nice folks will tie it to your car for you (recommended - tip the nice people, too) or you can do it yourself (are you good with knots? 70 mph good?). back in the store they have all kinds of honey - the owners are also apiarists - and some local craft-type stuff. they also offer free warm cider, which is nice after you've wandered around for an hour or so outside. greenwood is located about 10 minutes off of route 3 in billerica. from boston, it was only about a 1/2 hour drive, so not too bad at all. read more

We have been driving from Brookline to Billerica the past 7 years to Greenwood tree farm. We love the atmosphere, fair prices, excellent service for trimming and tying to the car, as well as the free cider. Crystal's All Natural Honey is delicious. We have searched all over metro Boston and found this to be our favorite place, which for us is well worth the 30 min drive. In looking over the 1 and 2 star ratings, some are disappointed that the cut your own selection is limited. Yes, they grow their own and the selection dwindles as Christmas approaches, but on Thanksgiving and just thereafter we have had excellent cut your owns (trimmed to 9 feet) every year for 7 years in a row. In addition to the cut your own (65 dollars) they have a good selection of pre-cut trees as well. THis is a family owned joint that does not take credit cards but does now have an ATM on site. read more

Tree selection was pretty good. There were not many tall trees, but we weren't looking for a tall one anyway. The main reason I gave this review 5 stars was because everyone was EXTREMELY friendly! 2 people asked if we needed any help finding a good tree for us, and they gave us great information. Once we found a good tree, we didn't even have to touch it, they cut the base, netted it up, and put it on our car very quickly! Everyone is very friendly, it's a very cute setting, and there are lots of beautiful pre-cut trees. However, there are very few trees to cut down yourself (and the ones available are small). We ended up with a really nice pre-cut tree that we're very happy with -- but had driven from the city hoping to cut down a tree ourselves -- so were a bit disappointed. read more

My family and I came here to cut down a tree and although there are many previously cut trees, some from the New York farm location that were cut the week before thanksgiving (fresh) and some from Canada, there were barely any to cut down on your own, and they didn't seem well kept. Pleasant staff and environment, but if you are looking to cut down your own tree--I wouldn't recommend this tree farm. We ended up buying a tree that was from the NY location, and it's beautiful. We were looking forward to cutting down our own tree, as we had in years past in another state. Greenwood does have the option to cut your own tree, but there were slim pickings. We overheard several other families commenting on the poor selection of trees. Not only is the selection poor, but there are significantly fewer trees to choose from than at other farms we had visited in the past. They have a great selection of pre-cut trees that seem to be shipped in from another state per their website. We wondered how often cut your own might draw in customers, who then choose to buy a precut tree as the cut your own selection is limited. Not a great cut your own experience. Sure, you can get a tree at a nursery, garden shop or big box store . But we're talking Christmas, so why not head to a farm where the trees are grown. Gorgeous, super fresh trees. Cut your own or buy from the lot. They put them in that netting that reduces needles on your floor and then tie it on your car--no charge. The teenager genuinely seemed surprised and grateful for the tip. Complimentary hot cider in the cute farmhouse and lovely wreaths, boughs, arrangements and pine roping at a fraction of the cost of what I have seen at other stores. Decided 10 days before Christmas that I HAD to cut down my own tree this year, so headed to the closest place, which turned out to be Greenwood Tree Farm. Felt as tho I was way out on the country as I approached their rustic facility. Discovered that the cut-your-own selection didn't meet my needs for tree size, but the staff directed me to a section of pre-cuts that came from a farm they own in NY and were cut only a week prior. Freshest and most beautiful tree I have ever decorated! Reluctantly took it down today and it's still fresh with few dropped needles. Definitely heading back next year!! read more

Seems like the cut-your-own tree section is a racket for selling imported and overpriced pre-cut trees. The trees you can cut are scrawny and short. They wouldn't get much fuller (only taller) next year if they make it that long. Would've thought more about still getting a small one if they weren't all $65 no matter the size. Not worth it when you can get a beautiful pre-cut one at Russo's for 2/3 the price. A disappointing waste of time. read more

Got our tree late this year, picked up a pre-cut from them for less than I've seen elsewhere, and loaded it onto the roof if the car in about 4 minutes. The free cider was a hit, the place organized and easy to access. So friendly there. We used to go to Durkee in Littleton, but now that they are closed, we have a new favorite place. highly recommend. read more
