Really have a grand time when I'm here. Love going to their in-store café. They have many, many tasty snacks [savory and sweet] and coffee drinks. The scenery and atmosphere in the café are very calm and soothing. Excellent lighting too, making for a great reading area. And now the rest of the store. The selection of books and magazines is impressive at this store. I love going down the aisles, taking books off the shelves and sampling them a little before making a decision. There are chairs out in case you want to sit and read for a while. It's wonderful that Barnes & Noble is still around, because I just love book stores. In our digital age, they sadly are practically becoming extinct. On to service, I have yet to have a bad experience with employees at this location. For value I'd say the prices aren't bad. They often have sales going on. read more

Part of this review is not actually the fault of this particular store, but this particular store is the one I have to shop at... Firstly, did you know that when you return an online purchase, due to the negligence of Barnes & Noble, you do not get reimbursed for your shipping cost? So when you receive a book in bad condition, you only get reimbursed for the book. Secondly, the location of the store has become increasingly unpleasant to shop at... Thirdly, not overly impressive staff, friendliness, helpfulness, etc.. Makes me sad because it used to be a highlight to go shopping for a new book. read more

I left a previous poor review my first time going here because of the poor service and the constant following of employees under suspicion of theft. Since then, any time I go in it's only gotten worse. The only nice staff I encountered was those are the cafe. But my small group and I were very obviously followed, watched, and stared at when we went in today. The staff at the register, and older man, was also extremely rude and flat, clearly thinking we were getting away with stealing or something and was mad at us. Listen, I work retail. I get when people steal, it's frustrating. But profiling young adults and just obnoxiously following and watching them to the point they feel uncomfortable and don't want to come back is uncalled for. We were not stealing. We actually made decent purchases each. Do better. Treat your customers with respect. Not everyone is stealing, stop treating us like we are. This was certainly my worst and last time coming to this store. I'd rather make the hour trip north to Redding then come back to our local store. read more

Staffs here are always nice, and the selection is amazing. Offer many books, albums, and anime figures etc. Totally recommend if you are looking for a place to study, buy books, or just have a date. I love this place!! read more

I really don't like to give places negative reviews but honestly I have been in there twice in the past month and the service was HORRIBLE. I don't want to get into detail but the attitudes of the staff were atrocious and I was actually embarrassed for them because they clearly did not know what they were doing (which is fine, everyone starts somewhere) but instead of just admitting it they were totally rude. I ordered the spare from Barnes & Noble's. They put it on hold. I went and picked it up and read it and loved it and going to cherish it.

Pretty much what you expect from BN. But in my opinion too many toys/puzzles/games junk and not enough actual volume of different titles. THEN there's the loud, stupid hip hop (whatever it is called) music blaring non stop. It actually makes me want to slam a book shut and flee from the store. Seems like more mellow backround music would keep people browsing. Hate this most of all. Oh and then there's the ever present Nook display with an employee always trying to get you to buy those. No thanks. Makes me long for a good local well stocked bookstore. No, not musty used books. They need a Gallery Bookstore like Mendocino. THAT'S what a quality bookstore should be like. read more

Barnes and Noble, Chico is now open again. Fully redesigned layout and signage. They got it right! More spaced out and more functional. The cafe is open for takeout only and there is no seating. Nobody was in line so we walked up to the register and set our book down to pay. Julie says, for future reference, the line starts over there and points to the sign that states that. I said, oh, is there somebody in line? She snaps back, no, I said that for future reference. Are you serious? We were the only people in the store and instead of greeting us with a hi, how are you? She barks at us like we just cut in front of someone. Totally unnecessary because nobody was even there, was it just to let us know we can't follow directions? I'm a loyal customer in this store "not anymore" I always shop there and spend over $200, today I was standing in collectibles and the manager came at me yelling for no reason saying we harassing her employees "even tho we didn't talk to anyone!!!!" And not just me, there was also other people standing in collectibles and she yelled at all of us, super unprofessional and the worst customer service I've ever seen in my whole life. read more

I walked in for one item on a SLOW Sunday morning - the woman checking people out was moving so incredibly slow it took her 10 minutes to get the one person in front of me out...who bought a magazine. 10 minutes. The lovely, beautifully decorated kids section, train table, and Lego table attracting the curiosity of your children to the extraordinary world of literature. How they host kids events and storytelling almost every single weekend! How Starbucks is conveniently located inside the store along with pastries from The Cheesecake Factory. This place is nicely air conditioned but there are no Outlets to plug in your phone unless you want to sit at the tables and then you are pressured to buy something which I'm not terribly impressed with their food. I have bought coffee here before mostly because I wanted to use an outlet even though I didn't really want coffee. Limited menu selection as far as lunch. Not impressed with this place don't know how they stay in business books are way expensive. Lots of discounts on kids stuff still expensive at even after discount. read more

I really like this Barnes and Noble. I used to shop here often when I was little, and eat at the cafe, but I will be honest, these days I don't venture past the travel section, and only come here to buy maps. They have travel books covering several countries, including some of the less popular ones, and I can literally spend hours in that section, but I wish they had a wider selection of maps. There isn't much to choose from. The U.S. maps, I don't even bother with. They are just slightly larger blow ups of the EXACT same maps I have in my atlas. I only come here to buy maps though, as their books are ridiculously overpriced, and I can get the same information online for free. They have a nice selection, but they are way out of my price range. Even some of the maps cost more than they should. And they don't have much US stuff. Tax is ridiculously high. Stop asking me about your discount card. I only come here maybe two or three times a year, and half the time, I don't even buy anything. read more

The store opens at 9am. At 9:02am a group was outside waiting. An employee came and opened the door allowing us all in. Another employee came by to kick us all back to the curb because they weren't open yet. One minute later they come unlock the doors and let us all in. Poor customer service...it is also winter and the lady on the power trip wouldn't let us stay in the warm lobby for the extra minute needed to open the store. read more

This yelp is specifically for the Starbucks inside this BN. I've not had an issue with their coffee, however I had an issue with their wraps when I last went in. I ordered something like..."The Farmers wrap" ? Can't quite remember. It had nice fluffy eggs, and veggies. Looked delicious in the case! I got it to go and headed out if town. I opened up the container and this piece if liquid garbage oozed out of the tortilla. It was like someone blended the ingredients up and slapped it in the tortilla. YUCK! False advertising! It's a great place to study, but most college students in town know about it, so it's packed with people during midterms/finals. I love this Barnes and Noble Bookseller location. Not all locations, I would be lying to you if I said that. They all have a very specific vibe to them. The Chico one tends to be more relaxed that the others. I love having a Red Velvet Cheesecake from the cafe while checking my e-mail/reading a book. I would definitely give them a five overall. The only thing they could improve on is the amount of couches they have by the magazine area. It would be nice if they weren't taken all the time. Anywho, if you are looking for a relaxed place to read/study/relax/etc. you should visit this Barnes and Nobles location. read more

I am going to rate this with one stars due to my visit to B & N I was treated very rude. The lady who helped me was so racist. She never asked my sister and I if I needed help also I was glad my toddler was too little to understand. I had my sister watch my child so I can go and ask for help. I can't find anyone to help me. There was a lady she kept giving me dirty looks. But I didn't know she works there because I couldn't see if she had a name tag on. Then I saw two white lady walked by she rush over and acted so nice to them asking if they needed help. So I was like okay she works here, I walked by her when she was done helping others to ask her for some help. She walked away and didn't answer me. Then I was looking around for someone else to help me. I can't find anyone, so I saw her and asked her for help. She was so rude kept giving me dirty look with no smile. She said children books are over here and there but I didn't even asked her where the children books were. She was not friendly was very mean and she didn't answer my question and walked away. She came to a white lady she changed the way she talks and was so nice to her. She was like since you didn't need any help you should try this book. So I decided to get all the books I needed and asked the cashier about the signs that I was trying to ask her. After she saw that I was carrying a lot of books she was like you need a basket.
