My brother and I needed a book last minute for a white elephant party. The only bookstore with the desired book was in Florence. We were in Kenwood and called the store to confirm that it was in stock. Alex confirmed it was and set it up front under my last name. She went above and beyond, which allowed us to easily get in and out. Our cashier was Grace and she was helpful, as well. Both employees were wonderful! All the workers who help you with finding the books and checking out are wonderful and so nice, but the cafe workers are meaner looking and have like a attitude when taking your order and just kinda careless and slow when making drinks or getting food for you. I went shopping for two magazines and didn't find them, plus I was overwhelmed by the stench of Starbucks, which usually doesn't happen to me inside a Barnes & Noble store. Unfortunately, because the magazines I wanted weren't there I didn't spend much more time. It's not a big store, but it seemed busy enough. Excellent selection of books and great area to read in the wifi coffee shop. The coffee shop is a Starbucks, but don't try to use your Starbucks card....they won't honor it! I stop at the Starbucks that is 500 feet down the plaza and use my card and then head to the Barnes & Noble! read more

It is not hard to see the reason for death of the book store being in this location. Less than half of the store is devoted to books, and their inventory is insufficient. Wifey was in search of a recently released book only to be told that they "can order it for you." Let's be clear, their only advantage over amazon and online book sellers is immediate gratification. It certainly is not price or customer service, now it is clear that it is not selection either. Not only are the locations getting fewer and further between, but they are also becoming less worth the trip. read more

I have been to Barnes &a Noble many times over the years. I enjoy the selection of inventory and little novelty items they carry. There is so much to choose from! Everything is in sections, making it easy to find the subject you're looking for. Still can't find it? The employees there are always ready and willing to help! The children's section has been a favorite since I was very little! It was always the best day when you got to choose from hundreds of books, all in one section us for me! Everything is a bit expensive, but that is to be expected. The added in Starbucks is amazing as well; a coffee shop and book store all in one. read more

I love reading! I lament the end of the physical book store even as I turn increasingly to e-Books for my own purchases. There used to be a time when I would avoid big book stores, like Barnes & Noble, in favor of smaller book stores, but many of those stores are now out of business. Over time, there has been a shifting in Barnes & Nobles sales from books and media to things like toys and puzzles. I understand why this is happening, but I still don't like it. I haven't experienced the difficulty in finding materials that other reviewers have mentioned, although I haven't really gone in with any particular expectation. As perspective... my favorite physical book store is half price books. I love wandering the aisles looking for a hidden gem... It is almost like being on a treasure hunt. I don't get the same feeling when I come here. If I'm looking to kill time, there are much worse places than Barnes & Noble. If I want to go on a treasure hunt, I'd prefer Half Price Books or a small secondhand book shop. If I want a particular book, I head to Amazon and buy the digital format. read more

Books are good things. Especially if they're found on the bargain table. Book stores are good things, especially if the atmosphere is right. Atmosphere? I'm not sure if there is another type of store that requires as much intensity and focus when shopping. Clothes? Hardly. Food? Zip. Shoes? So what. Shopping for a pet might get close, but cute always wins. So the atmosphere was right. Comfortable. But while wandering the stacks I was never asked if I wanted help or offered any kind of service. I really didn't want or need any, but it seemed like I was there plenty long enough to have been asked. read more

Have you ever read The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron? In it, she suggest taking yourself on artist dates. Barnes and Noble is my favorite artist date. I'll be honest, I do most of my book shopping on Amazon. But, sometimes I just don't know a good book to look up. I love to browse in Barnes and Noble. I could spend hours roaming around , picking up interesting books, sitting in a comfy chair and reading enough to see if I want to buy them. The sales people there aren't pushy and just let you be. The atmosphere is relaxing. Sales are good on bestselling items. It's a very nice way to spend an afternoon. read more

I have been going to Barnes and Nobles on Saturday mornings since it opened way back in the 90's. I used to take my 2 boys when they were little and we'd spend hours in the kids' section which is amazing! We've done that most of their lives. I go by myself now, and I get a drink and sit in the cafe and browse books and magazines. I LOVE this "me" time and look forward to it every week. Recently, I tried the chili and boy was it a treat! It was delicious. I usually get the hot chocolate or a soda and sometimes I'll add a cookie but I've never gotten anything else. The Chili was so filling and I thought the price was reasonable. The people who work there are terrific. I love how they ask me how my day is going and maybe what I thought of a certain book they'd see me browsing. I never really realized how a "how is your morning going" means but when you live alone, there's no one to ask you that. I love when I get tea or something in the mornings and someone says "good morning" to me. It used to now phase me but now I really notice it. Anyway, I give Barnes and Nobles a thumbs up and more because it's truly one of my favorite places to spend time. read more

As an Amazon prime customer, Barnes and Noble has proven yet again why Amazon is running the table and destroying all of their business. I stopped by on Sunday 6/25/2017 with money in hand to buy a book and asked if they would price match their OWN website only to be given this bizarre, ignorant, and amusing response. I was told in a nutshell that I would have to pay the in store price because "you get the convenience of having it that day and don't pay taxes" after I wrapped my head around what just came out of this person's mouth and chuckled I realized clearly I was in the wrong store. I didn't have to buy this book but being in the area I decided to give them a try since I knew they had it from doing a quick search on my phone. I was hoping to make a quick transaction to help my girlfriend that is continuing her education read while we were taking the kids to the nearby park. The long drawn out explanation only proved to me why I will never do business with Barnes and Noble again. I went home ( on a Sunday) and ordered the complete set of 2 books for the same price they wanted to charge me for one just to have "convenience" well oddly enough, it might amaze this employee to know that I still had to pay sales tax, and I got it delivered before noon. Fantastic service.... Barnes and Noble turned away a motivated buyer that knew exactly what I wanted when I walked into their empty store. Do yourself a favor and don't be a savvy shopper in 2017 and ask if they'll match their very own website price because that won't happen. The folks at Barnes and Noble would rather turn money away to the competition who has superior customer service. At the end of the day I was able to get both books for the price of one and to think I didn't even have to leave my house for your nonsense story. How's that for "convenience"? I will never recommend them again. Thanks Amazon, for having the books on my doorstep by the time we got home that evening. read more
