I love a good book. Every time I go into this store I come out with a new stack of at least five books. Really has something for every age group and interests. Yes, it's a chain store .... But they are doing it right and keeping printed book reading alive in a world where most reading is done on a phone these days. I love Barnes and noble. It's one of my happy places because BOOKS. But, it's also always a quaint, quiet, and serene place to go. Whether browsing the shelves with a cup of coffee or looking for a new journal, a gift to give, a knick knack or two, and lots and lots of books, it's a great place to hang. This one is always clean, neat, and orderly to me. The people are friendly, not quite as engaged with customers, but I kind of like it since it let's me browse in peace. Makes it slightly hard to find them at times though, but, they are always helpful and knowledgeable! The cafe always has great workers as well! Love the value deals like buy one get one half off or free. My favorite time to go! This particular one holds a special place in my heart as well since I worked there for a few years when I was younger! read more

I recently started reading again and I enjoy stopping in here for my new book selections, coffee, and a place to read. All of the staff members are so friendly and can always point you in the right direction for whatever you are looking for and if they don't have it, they can order it for you. There are 2 seater tables by where you can order food and drinks. They also have larger tables that seat about 6 people to the left of there. I've got the Barnes and Noble app and I love it because I can scan it and get points for anything I order and any books I buy. The bathroom is always clean and I just enjoy being there for hours reading in my own little world! They also have a great selection of calendars and planners I really appreciate. read more

This review is for the Cafe. I went in there and ordered a caramel mocha Frappuccino. Cashier took my order and never commented. Just asked if I wanted a receipt, which I replied no because I did t expect a problem. I waited for my drink and saw there was a cup there with a wcm on there. I asked and she said it was mine. It was for a white chocolate mocha. I said that wasn't my order and she said we don't have that. We'll why didn't she say this when I ordered it? You don't just make substitutions. I despise white chocolate. So no apologies, and argumentive, the cashier is clearly agitated. So I said nevermind, I'll just take my money back. Well I paid cash, but I have to take a B&N gift card because I didn't take the receipt, and the manager didn't want to look in the trash for the receipt that the cashier crumpled. Lesson for me, don't go to Banrnes & Noble Cafe. Hopefully, lesson for cashier. Don't make substitutions without asking. Just lead with we don't make that here. This is a great Barnes and Nobel. It's large and jot too many bookshelves. A whole separate reading and studying area. Also a separate area for the coffee shop. It's a total win. Huge children's area. Parking is ok. read more

Barnes & Noble are masters at knowing what the consumer wants. B&N are known for there huge selection of books, there psuedo Starbucks cafe, and their cleanliness. But just when i thought they were all the same... I was in Ithaca for the day and needed a place to work from. B&N is always a go to when I need coffee, a snack , and internet. When I went in and cased the place, wow, there were huge tables lined up with chairs everywhere. This is a road warriors dream. read more

I have visited the store and Cafe on a regular basis. I really like the people who work here. The food and drink in the Cafe are delicious. In particular, Stephen, Manager in the Cafe, is a great barista, person and a real asset to Barnes & Noble. read more

It's a typical B&N for the most part ... (I think "African Gal" below must have been meaning to comment on a branch back in Chicago ... I've mostly lived in Chicago myself -- & her comment certainly applies to some branches there alright ... Whereas the Ithaca one is very clean and wholesome, whenever I've been there ...) ... They have sometimes had author events for local authors I've known , time and again ... For those seeking to buy or browse the "Brit Mags" -- e.g., Sight & Sound, Uncut , Mojo, etc. etc. -- this seems to be the only place in town left to get those ... read more

The days of feeling guilty when buying a book at a chain store are over for me. Now, I'm part of the fight to keep even one physical store in our town. Luckily, we still have two great ones: Buffalo Street Books and Barnes and Noble. This review is limited to the latter. The Ithaca BN has alot going for it: convenient hours (open till 10pm most days); the most expansive collection of books in the area; a nice cafe that serves Starbucks coffee, snacks and sandwiches; plenty of tables to read or use your laptop via free wifi; and best of all...a great staff! I've shopped at plenty of Barnes and Nobles and can confidently say that the staff at the Ithaca store are as good as they get. Knowledgeable, freindly and quick in helping you find stuff. I always have a good experience here and they always surprised me with how many items they have. Not only do they have books and notebooks, but they also have a very wide selection of random gifts. They have a beautiful display of candles, soaps and other relaxing items, and that section smells so good! Today when I was there, I saw so many cute gift items that I haven't seen in most Barnes and Nobles. The woman who rang me up was really friendly and we joked about the weather. I know it's downright un-Ithacan to support chains, but I found myself in Barnes and Noble recently to watch my brother's band perform. One of his bandmates had been chosen as B&N's "artist of the month" so his artwork was available for viewing while he played. The atmosphere was extremely mellow - and this B&N actually has a pretty decent space in which to grab a book, relax and listen to music. There are so many coffeeshops and other venues in this town that cater to folks who want to zone out for a few hours in a good book or use their laptop while drinking a delicious coffee drink - and many of these places are locally owned and run, and deserve our support. That said, this isn't a horrible place to find yourself, as long as you can get past the blatant chain bookstore thing. read more

The store itself it fine, with all the usual selection you'd expect at these big-box booksellers, but it can be hard to track down staff members on the floor to help you find things. The in-store Starbucks is big and well staffed, with a good selection of bakery items. My major gripe is check-out. Frankly, the Barnes and Noble pitch is getting really old. I understand staff members are required to ask if I'm part of the loyalty program, but the company seems to require them to ask multiple times during the check-out process. Once that fracas is over they'll ask for my email address, making it sound like it's a requirement - no thanks. The whole process is over-complicated and off-putting. read more

GREAT selection of books with a large children's section and a moderately sized teen section. Many of the people who work here are EXTREMELY friendly and give me book suggestions and help me find things. This is the perfect place to get a gift, because they also have games. Are you hungry?, because all u have to do is come here! There's a Starbucks with room to drink your coffee or eat your muffin in peace while reading that INCREDIBLE book you just got into! They graciously wrap gifts and have many neat things to buy on their point of purchase displays!! I highly recommend this Barnes and noble location! read more

I patronize this Barnes and Nobles quiet often, and love how quiet and clean the shop is. I am however looking for another place to spend my time and money. My main problem is that there are a lot of bums (or men who look homeless) who hog the seats in the reading area. While I have no problem with them, and at the risk of sounding mean, the level of cleanliness and general stink from these men leaves a lot to be desired. I've almost thrown up due to the smell emanating from these gentlemen. I don't know how B&N can deal with this issue (that is, if they consider this an issue). Perhaps they can find a way to talk to these men about cleanliness, help them get clean so they and everyone else can enjoy the wonderful space. I feel all sorts of terrible writing this review, but I couldn't help it... sigh... read more

I made the mistake of asking if the book I came in to purchase was the same price in-store as it was online, and then sealed my fate by daring to try to joke about it. The clerk wouldn't crack a smile no matter how I tried to engage him in conversation, and the only thing he'd say to me were reasons justifying why I was paying $18 for a book. I understand the WHY of it, but if I'm going to spend $40 on 2 books in an economy where I could have purchased the same two books for $20 online, a little bit of friendliness wouldn't have killed the guy. In an industry that is struggling to find its place in these tech-centric times, customer service makes all the difference. I'll be getting my books elsewhere going forward. read more
