I can only imagine the selection at the beginning of the sale and how much stock was probably available. Even so, the selection today was remarkable. You certainly get a flavor for what all the college professors are requiring lit majors to buy by the mass quantities of certain titles. Anyhow, this sale has all kinds of books that are organized by topic and then by author. Really well run and the staff is friendly and efficient. Cash, check or card accepted. Today they marked down the prices; the most expensive book was 50 cents. The deals are wild! Masks and social distancing are enforced. There was a line outside when I arrived (5:15pm) and I waited for about 20-25 minutes to get in. It seemed to be a slower time and I'm not sure what the wait would be if it was a peak hour. If you pay $100 to become a "friend" you can have early accsss. It was well worth my time and I'm happy to support this organization!

The owners provide brief instructions then it's up to you to create a design. The owners are friendly and helpful. They really encourage everyone to be creative. And what a delight it was! It's a really lovely and welcoming shop with plenty of plants, books, meditation or yoga supplies, bedding, prints, and more. With a focus on eco-friendly products, the prices aren't necessarily for the budget conscious, but you can rest assured that the quality is there. The staff here are happy to help, but also let you wander the store without being overly pushy or hovering. I got into a conversation with one of them regarding some of the plants they had available - and she was quite excited to show me a new plant that she had just learned about. I ended up buying a couple plants (among other items), as I had managed to find a cebu blue pothos tucked away upstairs, as well as a white princess philodendron on display downstairs... both of which had been on my plant wishlist for a while. TL;DR. It's probably a good thing that I'm not on The Commons often, because it'd be very easy for me to spend way too much money here (especially on the bedding items, as I'm a sucker for comfy blankets and all that). That said, I'm definitely adding Home Green Home to my list of favorite Ithaca shops. Highly recommend it!

I didn't feel any pressure to buy something or awkwardness that you sometimes get in other little shops. I was impressed by the quality of the pottery. We had been playing the spy game that the local shops had rallied together for, and not only did she make sure we got our letter, but she tipped us off to make sure we could fully enjoy our game. Like the shop, she was an absolute delight. (My mate said that she seems like an older version of me, so excuse my bias. If I'm as friendly and personable as her, heck if I work in a toy store like her, when I get older, I'll be ecstatic.) If you're just looking for me to talk toys and not associates, trust me, that's golden too. We're both in the latter half of our twenties, but I think I lost two decades of stress in that place. There are puppets and trinkets and so many affordable toys that I left behind, opting for two rubber duckies to add to my collection. Reverse time and drop by to get yourself an ooze dribbler. It's hypnotic, like this place, and you'll be glad you did.
