This is my comfort bookstore. I remember coming to the children section as a kid growing up. And call me crazy, but Barnes & Noble just has that B&N smell (they should make a candle). This is my go to of the ones in Richmond. It's closest to me too. Like most B&Ns, it's located in a strip mall so there is a bunch of free and easy parking out front. This B&N is just one level. And everytime I come to this one, I am always able to find the book I am looking for. I've noticed that B&N has a lot of gifts nowadays. You can find everything from puzzles to legos to notebooks. I know they've always had this, but it feels even bigger (maybe something to do with their Paper Source partnership). So if you're looking for a book and some cute gifts to go with it, this is the perfect place to do that. It's organized pretty well too. I typically don't need to ask for help when searching for a book. I've gotten everything from fiction to cookbooks to travel guides from this location. It's never too busy (unless it's a holiday like Christmas). They also have the Starbucks corner like most B&Ns do. I'd recommend coming to this location. read more

I have loved being a customer of Barnes and Noble for years but recently had a very unpleasant experience at the Willow Lawn location following email forwarded to designated party (CRM) for interest in scheduling a book signing...with no response over a number of days and multiple calls to the store with speaking with manager, "K," I was repeatedly told that their system was down but someone should be in touch with me in a few days-never happened. So, in my final call and being directed to above manager again, he detected my tone of frustration with the situation and he became unprofessional in tone to match my frustration and as I proceeded to end conversation, above manager abruptly ended call prior to stating, "Please understand we're doing the best we can." That is understandable but as a professional, you don't match frustration with frustration while supposedly attempting to calm and support customer. Needless to say, I have no further interest in working with this location and will not be visiting this store in the near future. However, this individual was professional and polite during previous telephone calls. read more

I love coming to Barnes & Noble to hang out, find something new to read and enjoy a coffee. I purchased an iPad years ago and never thought it would replace books for me, but eventually it did...I started reading books online. Being at Barnes & Noble reminds me of how satisfying it is to hold a book. On this visit we enjoyed cheesecake, coffee and our newly purchased books. This place is so busy! I noticed several tables that were tutors with kids, lots of couples enjoying coffee and desserts on a cold day and numerous browsers. So glad B&N is still around. I hope they continue to thrive. read more

Judge this bookstore by it cover! It's pretty grand! I'm so thrilled to see that while many bookstores have succumbed to the digital age, this store is thriving. I know it's a megastore, and I'm partial to small local book shops, but anything that gets people's noses in the written word is alright by me! They have a huge newsstand and magazine area which covers almost any subject! And my passion is tea, so check out Tea Time magazine! I love the game section to find the most unusual board games and puzzles! The stationery section has wonderful cards, journals and gifts. And the movie and music section is pretty good too! It's nice that the cafe is on site so that you can relax with a beverage and the latest best seller! The staff is friendly and helpful and the line goes quick! As a member, you get additional discounted pricing and the clearance selection is great! Sure, you can purchase all these books and things on line, but there's something special about wandering thru a bookstore, cracking a spine and having the scent of a new book envelope your nostrils! This location has great staff, especially in the children's section. My daughter loves coming here to read books, and browse a selection of toys that I usually talk her out of. There's a pet store near by that's good to visit with a child that loves animals. I also love coming here alone to browse through the graphic novels section. I have yet to come here for a book event, but I hope to do one someday. read more

Always enjoy the browsing and the books in the clearance section. The folks are wonderful about ordering books.

Despite the digital age of reading books through electronic devices or ordering books off of Amazon Prime, there is still something about going into a book store, smelling the fresh paper, interacting with other book lovers, and sitting down to read a book while the Hamilton soundtrack plays softly in the background (Yes-- when I came in the other day I took notice of their excellent choice of mood music!). Like many other children of the late early '90s, I am gearing up for the release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Basically, in about 10 days, all of my dreams are going to be coming true with the release of that one book. I am ecstatic that "The boy who lived" is coming back into our lives and even more ecstatic that all Barnes and Nobles will be having a midnight release for old time's sake! In preparation for the release, I came to this location to check out the Harry Potter merch that my friend had seen at another location. I was a teensy bit disappointed with the selection here. When she Facetimed me from the other location, they had way more options to choose from. This location didn't have any t-shirts which is what I was hoping to get. It did have some really cool behind-the-scenes books from the movies that I sat down and read. Overall, the store was open, well organized, and cozy, but probably not the best Barnes and Noble location in terms of selection. read more

After failing to find a specific sentimental children's book at a local retail store, I decided to give Barns & Noble a go. After all, they're known to be a gigantic book retailer, so if they don't have it, then maybe no one does? That was my thought, at least. Well, just my luck! B&N did, in fact, have my book. And instead of making me search the racks for hours, they were able to do a quick search in their system and show me the exact location of the title. It took a few tries, but they were able to literally point me to the spot where the book was calling my name. The woman who helped me was incredibly friendly, as well as knowledgeable. She even knew what book I was looking for when I mysteriously added a second half to the title. Nope, that half doesn't actually exist, in case you were wondering. Not really sure where I got it from... blame it on a great imagination? Just go with it. If you're looking for an obscure title that seems to be missing from one of your local bookstore haunts, B&N is a great second choice! Chances are, they'll have what you're looking for. And hopefully you'll score a wonderful staff member who's more than happy to help you - just like I did! read more

I really like this location prob because of its proximity to the Target at Willow Lawn. The cafe staff are always pleasant and helpful and good and drinks are fresh. The cafe is kept very clean which is nice :-) The actual book staff are super helpful if you can't find something, I asked one guy and he actually asked 2 more people until we found what I was looking for! read more

I think I have stumbled onto why Barnes & Noble will be out of business soon... We stopped by - it was like a graveyard. Only a few people were visiting their loved ones. We went to the customer services desk and saw an employee chatting with either another employee or customer nearby. she watched us walk around the desk and hid behind a bookshelf, peeking out at us. When I started walking toward her, she pulled out her walkie-talkie and asked for personnel to go to the desk. Now that's what I call customer service! read more

I used to spend a lot of time studying in this B&N when it first opened. There's a fairly large coffeehouse (Starbucks) area to do this with a decent number of outlets for plugging in laptops. Great selection of books, magazines and gifts. You can find some rare magazines here that you won't find at most other places. Central location. read more

This seems to be a pretty decent location. There are a lot of helpful people and usually have everything you are looking for. It is a great place for teachers to join a club and get a small percentage off (every little bit helps). I have switched to reading books online so I do not usually get books here but I can find other stuff I need for my classroom. Also, the events they do here are pretty cool too. Their Harry Potter night is pretty cool and the prizes you can win are worth going. read more

This is the closest Barnes & Noble to VCU, aside from the one that is already on campus. I believe that this is a decent location to go to. Just like all Barnes & Noble locations, it has a great selection of books, periodicals, and a cafe where you can sit down and read. I feel that this location is busy and that most seats in the cafe are taken up. It also feels like the cafe is a bit smaller than other locations. Parking can be a bit tight if a lot of people are there. read more

Love this store. I usually go to this one or the one in Short Pump, but the people (customers and employees!) are so rude there that I'd rather come here! The employees here are really nice but I really think B&N corporate should tell the cashiers to stop trying to push the loyalty card on people. I always say no because I don't pay for something that every other store gives away for free, and it really seems like it makes the cashiers uncomfortable because they feel like they're being pushy. At the Short Pump location, a cashier got very nasty when I said no so I always get uncomfortable at checkout now and I have to ask my fiancé though the line for me. But one thing I love about this store is how accessible everything is! I have to walk with a cane sometimes and I've never had to "maneuver" here, it's always been super easy to get around and I love that! read more

the bookstore itself is fine.. typica barnes n noble... but not a fan of one of the staff at the starbucks here.. i had my laptop plugged in and the woman came up, yanked it out, and basically reprimanded me for having it plugged in from such a distance saying that i was gonan trip someone. ok i get it but there was no other freaking seats though and my laptop was about to die. it was only plugged in for like a minute. first of all, dont talk to me like i'm 8... second keep your hands off my stuff. if you want me to unplug it ask me nicely... i don't buy anything from the starbucks anymore. idk if that affects b&n but if it does then they should really train their staff to be more polite read more

Horrible experience with Bonnie. She was very rude and caused an unnecessary nuisance the night I was making graduation purchases for a few adolescent family members. All of the other employees that were on duty were pleasant and very peaceful in letting me continue my transaction since I was in line before the store closed. Cops were called to the scene and sent home once they found that Bonnie had made a non-enforceable complaint. Overall, just a horrible experience with that location because of her presence there despite the apologies from the manager and co-workers. If I suggest anything, please go on a day that she is not scheduled. I would dread hearing another complaint about this particular employee. read more

I went into the store location today and as soon as I entered I went to the café area to go ahead and get a cuppa coffee there was no one back there but a sign saying they would be back in 15 minutes so I walked around the store and bought me quite a few books then after that I went back periodically and there was still no one there by this point in time I've been in the store 45 minutes so I went to the front desk after I checked out and asked if anyone was working back there and they said they would find a girl who worked back there another 10 minutes passes and finally the girl comes back griping that she was on a break I'm sorry if you have a customer in the store you need to have someone back there and not have the customers been griped at and complain to that you can't finish your break when obviously someone should be back there and they were not that is poor planning on the stores location read more

My 15-month-old and I had a great experience here this morning. The staff were all very friendly and I saw several eagerly helping other customers which was encouraging. the children's are was clean and my daughter had such a good time at the train table. I loved looking at all of the books and felt that the prices were less than I expected which was nice. read more
