A large B&N location compared to most I've visited in the city, which is always nice when you're looking for a rare book or a large selection. I went here on black friday to pick up some board games - I LOVE the fact that they have a reserving system: you pick your item online, tell them that you'll be in to pick it up, and they will actually store the item for you behind the counter so it's ready and waiting by the time you get in. You can even get text message confirmations! Although that's a great service that I am definitely a fan of, I don't shop here unless I have a coupon, because their prices do run you on the more expensive end of the scale (compared to Amazon or some other online stores.) Still, for a big chain bookstore where you expect them to carry a large selection of practically anything, this is a good B&N to visit in Brooklyn. read more

What's not to like? I try to support the local book store/s in the Slope but with a huge amount of titles, a great magazine section and multitudes hipsters reading on the floor begging to be noticed and making reading relevant again, B&N is a cultural boost. If they carried more off beat books like Community Books, and their bathrooms were Canadian clean I'd give them a 5th star. read more

She took the time to research the topic and set me up with a book that was just published 5 days ago - for a topic that I need the latest info on, it doesn't get any better than that. read more

This Barnes and Noble has alot going for it. A great location, in a great neighborhood, on a lively avenue. The store is big and staff is helpful. Tons of books and if not, they will order one for you, and even call you to let you know when it's in. I guess all B&N stores do this, but this is one of the few I actually bought anything in. They always seem to have good deals too. The other thing I like about this place is that you can get cheap refills at the cafe(like 50 cents) on whatever you ordered before, if you keep the cup and the recipt. What a plus to sitting there and leeching wifi for hours haha! The cool thing about it is that they never bust your chops when you are sitting at the cafe on your computer as long as you order something. There is a bathroom downstairs and a reading/playing area for children. Its very family friendly and has security guards and even a cop to guard these mild mannered yuppies from the evil native Brooklynites who might wander in from time to time. The audacity of those savages! Overall I give this place 4 stars due to the laid back atmosphere, the good service, and the cheap refills. read more

Everyone has been inside one (all?) of these chain bookstores. Overpriced and overcrowded. I'm so OVER Barnes and Noble. The final straw for me was calling the Park Slope location about the availability of the new Nook simple touch (the website didn't have stock information available). The customer service over the phone was absolutely unacceptable. It's slightly after 12 noon on a Monday and the guy who answered the phone couldn't even manage the standard phone etiquette of a pleasant tone (read: condescending attitude). Customer service in this country is typically sub-par, but Barnes and Noble Park Slope takes it to a new level with staff that is snotty, un-informed at best and un-helpful at the worst. I appreciate that this BN is near my apartment. I generally get books from the library, but I love perusing this store and the cafe area almost always has a seat open. Only a few times I've had to wait for a seat, but even that wait was less than a minute (compared to Union Sq, where you can stand in the middle of the cafe stalking people for their seats for 5-10 minutes). Its great for a coffee date with friends or if you just need a new locale to do some work. Plus the free wifi is nice, too! read more

Attitude of staff, including the manager, at this branch is horrendous. They don't seem to know the first thing about the store. (If they hear someone paged, shouldn't SOMEONE in the store have a remote clue where the paged person ought to go, since the page was so low and muffled it was practically impossible to hear? Shouldn't they know where a chair to sit is? FYI, it's in the WAY back corner downstairs... so convenient). Plus, they act as if they're doing you a giant favor if you ask a question. If anyone from this B&N reads this: With bookstores disappearing, don't you think your attitude is a really dumb approach to doing business? tip #1 if you were looking at the lady gaga/terry richardson photo book before xmas and thinking there is no way in hell I can spend $40 on this-you don't have to it is 1/2 off (along with some other equally dubious titles) tip #2 if you are not about kids/strollers/moms/nannies abort ABORT!!! Yeah this place is pretty shopworn and they don't seem to get events here (waaaaaay back in 99 dorothy allison did a reading here) but sometimes if you need something you need it what can you say. read more

I like to go here to pass the time for doctor appointments. I sit in the starbucks section with a stack of magazines and I buy some coffee. The prices in Barns n Noble rob you blind. I buy all my books on Amazon. Sorry to say that I can't justify a reason to spend money here. read more

This Barnes is right across the street from Methodist Hospital so youll see doctors at the Starbuks in the store all the time. Internet on your phone wont work in the basement level. So you cant be reached once your there . Theres a really nice card section with unique card companies and a nice small art section. Every single Trump book in this store is negative not even neutral as if they know exactly who everyone for yet they have plenty of rifle magazines go figure. Called to To have a book reserved. The person I spoke to at the customer service desk told me they would have my book. They did not even ask for my name and simply tell me to visit the customer service desk. I come into the store they tell me to go check the register for my book. I get to the register and the person at the register says my book is not here. I go off me off on a wild goose hunt looking for my book. I finally find my book and pay for my book 20 minutes later What should've taken all but five minutes took me 20 minutes. Better and cheaper places to go book shopping! read more

Not a true Starbucks. They do not a sell or serve Pike Place which is Starbucks regular coffee . Walk into any REAL Starbucks Pike is always whats served (unless you ask for a specific brew) there is usually one other choice - usually what they are promoting or staffs choice....they also do not accept mobile payment nor do they accept Starbucks "gold card".... @ a real starbucks if you dont specify a particular brew you will be served Pike Place I not making this up.... My BF lives nearby and I stopped there to pick up a bag of pike and The staff themselves told me that they arent "starbucks" per say...they dont sell or serve PIKE - in fact was told they cant sell Pike... there is an agreement with B&N & Starbucks that allows them to sell limited items. this is not to say that the place is bad but if youre a fan of Pike and use your mobile or gold card for payment youre better off going to 1st street..... The store itself is pretty nice. It's a good place for kids on a rainy day and I thought the Starbucks would be handy. I'm rating lower because the Starbucks was not a positive experience. I asked two or three ties to save space in my cup for soy milk and was handed a cup that was totally full. Usually the staff put the milk in for me at other locations. I frankly don't care if they do or not, but the woman wasn't listening to me at all. I asked if they had almond or soy and she just said "um, yeah" and hurried me along. Both women working there today were rude and it was off putting. I work a block away so I may have to go back, unless I find a better place to get tea. I hope they improve the service and treat people nicer in the future. Hopefully they were off their game and it was a one time issue. read more

Location is great and it's easy to find what you're looking for. Would like to see a better selection of local books on Park Slope. Management needs to crack down on the freeloaders in the cafe that don't buy anything and have a stack of 20 magazines each that sit there for hours. Not fair to those of us who are buying coffee. Fantastically great customer service. Magazine shelves are a bit high and the short step stool is never to be found. It is bothersome for me to keep asking for someone to get a magazine for me each time. Would appreciate that the strollers be folded and be placed at the far end of the children's section----otherwise they are creating a FIRE HAZARD even if they are lined up.!!!! read more

Barnes and Noble on 7th Ave and 6th St in Brooklyn has been a favorite spot, especially when my son was younger. On the lower level, they have a really nice toys and children's books section, which we have loved for gifts and treats for our son and his friends. Also, the section on the first floor is great for small gifts, chocolates/treats, cards, fun notebooks, games. And then there is the cafe, which is a nice stop in if waiting for something else. The gift wrap section at the entrance/exit, has been a really helpful self service station all year long, and during the end of year holidays, it is a nice stop over while some lovely people wrap your gifts to beautiful orchestra music (Shen Yun). The staff has been helpful in finding/ordering a hard to find book, and they have a lot of old and new favorites in stock. The check out line moves quickly. There are always kids and families, and young hipsters, and folks of all kinds. read more

WiFi (ATT) is so slow as to be useless. Yet they advertise it on the front door as an enticement.

If you want an average bookstore with no personality, you won't be disappointed. Most of the staff tries to be helpful, they can usually find the book I want somewhere in the store. Just make absolutely sure you don't come in during kid time, especially if you need to head downstairs or to the cafe. And expect to have to climb over folks lounging on the floor of what the feel is their private library. read more

I was so excited to check out this Barnes and Noble in Park Slope after going through some bookstore withdrawal living in a depressingly bookstore-less neighborhood in BK. While I happily strolled the aisles in my book-loving stupor, I was a bit disappointed in this B &N compared to others I have frequented. It felt small and a bit claustrophobic---something about the lay-out was a bit strange. But, luckily there is a Starbucks with already read magazines strewn about some of the tables so I don't feel that guilty about sitting down, relaxing with a latte and reading a mag without buying it first! read more

it is impossible to browse at the design/art/photography section, as every 30 seconds someone takes a shortcut to the bathrooms via that path and with a loud "excuse me" you are forced to step back and let another stoller or staff member go by... i want to support B&N but usually leave annoyed because of this, and return to ordering online. read more

The problems with this B and N lay in the customers, not the store or its employees. In fact, this weekend I saw praise worthy behavior by a manager. There was suddenly jackhammering above the cafe. The upstairs tenant was apparently doing some unexpected construction. The noise was pretty bad and a bit jarring. The manager came to explain it to all of us in the cafe, as she was on the phone trying to get more info. and see if she could halt the work. The noise unfortunately continued. But frankly the jack-hammer was preferable to the brats who were whining to their inept Park Slope parents. Apparently it is against the rules to tell little Einsteins and Mozarts to be quiet. The inconsiderate shoppers undermine this store, the ones who sit for hours even when others are waiting, the people who make a mess in the bathroom, the ones who leave their unwanted materials all over the place. If I have a choice, I usually order my books from Amazon. But this Barnes and Nobles has saved my butt so many times. Some of my professors wouldn't tell us when we needed to get a book until the last minute, and sometimes I must confess that I forgot to get a book and had to dash out of my home like a mad-woman, dragging my teenage brother with me so I could be safe from any creepers hanging around once it gets dark out. And I always find the book (or play, in the lastest run to the store). When I'm not in a rush, though, it becomes clear that there isn't a huge variety, the middle school/high school kids there after school get annoying quickly (I always end up hoping I wasn't as bad as they are when I was their age!), and I really just go for Nook gift cards for myself (to keep myself from buying way to much on my credit card, I work hard for my money so the gift cards let me know exactly how much I'm spending). Anyway, to sum this up, the store is convenient but isn't perfect. read more
