This Barnes & Noble has a nice layout. It's easy to find each section and they have a decent music selection with vinyl and CDs, too There are two floors and it's fun to browse through all of their journals and gift section. I went during the weekend and there were tons of people shopping- it looks like they get plenty of foot traffic. Was nice to see many kids and families- better than being on an iPad or phone all day. read more

This one is located inside The Commons shopping center but connection is super spotty fyi! Beautiful store and one of the very few left. Happy this one still exists. This one has two floors and they have all the figures and toys upstairs. Kids section and anime stuff up there as well. The bottom floor has a gift section and all other books, etc. If you're a Harry Potter fan, they have a very nice selection upstairs that you can see as soon as you walk in since they have a header of the Hogwarts castle. I'm so glad there is a Barnes and noble close to us! My daughter just started kindergarten and had a gift card to Barnes and Noble and wanted to get some books. They had the cutest kid section with a stage to play on and read books. They also had an awesome sale going on so we shopped until we dropped! She is begging to come back and we definitely will. read more

It's a bit of a drive for me, but a good location in the sense that there's ample parking and other stores nearby. The store's selection is pretty good (especially on the 2nd floor), layout wasn't too cramped, and floor staff were attentive and offered to help us find books (we probably looked lost while browsing). Checkout was another thing. We were lucky there wasn't a queue that time, but the interaction with the cashier felt really rude. It's one thing to try to start a conversation and another thing to judge out loud each book a customer buys. Felt really snobby. I know I don't look like the usual demographic that shops in the area but I enjoy books and read from time to time read more

Love Barnes and Noble! So many options though it seems there are many sections where you could find the same books, so you may have to check several sections. I saw a woman behind the counter of when you walk in, and I approached to ask about where I could find a specific book. "Would you be able to help me find a book?" I asked. She laughed and sarcastically said "uh, yeah I guess I could do that..." oh, perhaps I'm in the wrong place. I didn't see signage or anything indicating the purpose of the area but it seemed to be where others have come to ask questions "oh, no I don't mean to overstep, is there somewhere in the store I can ask for some help? I didn't know if this was the right spot for that." She rolled her eyes "no it's fine I'll do it for you". What a weird off putting interaction. When I went to check out I inquired about that area and the very nice helpful gentleman eagerly explained "oh, that's customer service, where they can help you find books!" LOL. Upon further reflection, she seemed like a grumpy and lonely woman, and I wonder if she hadn't eaten lunch yet but was forced to watch all of the happy couples on valentine's weekend prance around the store holding hands while she sneered from behind her counter, forced to look up romantic novels and direct others to places she cannot go :(. read more

I absolutely love Barnes & Noble, one of my fav places to visit! The staff around the bookstore was great. But I had a terrible experience at the Starbucks. I have worked at many coffee shops and in the industry. If I make a mistake for a customer, I fix it. I don't argue with the customer about what they said or didn't say. I just try to make it a good experience for them. One of the employees argued with my friend about what she ordered, said she needed to pay more and then when we asked for a new drink that I would pay for, they threw the old one away. What a waste, so petty. I've never heard of a Starbucks employee getting in trouble for making a positive experience for the customer. It was the matter of two pumps of vanilla. This is also the second time they have messed up the order for us and the lack of quality customer service is a bummer. I know service jobs are tough as I am in the industry but a good rule of thumb for a company should be to give the customer a positive experience. Appreciate the employees that help me found books though :) read more

Never had a chance to step inside this Barns and Noble location all the times of coming out here. I walked inside and the fresh air condition was on. I have nothing bad to say about Barns & Noble, however I did not have the best experience when ordering from their Starbucks. I had ordered my coffee and some waters and when I did not receive the waters I kindly asked the girl with green and purple hair if the waters were ready and she was very rude about it and propped the waters down a bit too aggressively for my liking. No smile, no "I'm sorry", no eye contact, just attitude. I understand that it's the holidays and everyone is stressed and understaffed but this is no way to act. read more

I always come here to get all my books and they have exceptional customer service and if you need any help finding any books or magazines, they always help you no matter what. I love this location in Calabasas is right next to where I get my facial, so if I'm early, I'll go here to start time and check out books that I want and purchase . They also have a starbucks inside with a different the different menu from the original Starbucks. With good drink options. I I recommend this, Barnes & Noble's if you are in the area of Calabasas or live in Calabasas this location is never really too busy and they always help you out. This is my favorite Barnes and noble in the LA area. There's a fantastic magazine selection. I bought my favorite news magazine there today called The Week. It's difficult to find The Week at newsstands and my subscription has ended so I was thrilled to see it at Barnes & Noble. This magazine summarizes all US and International news and covers all sides. They quote all the sources. If you just read this one magazine you will be more informed than most. The magazine is also very readable and covers real estate, entertainment, technology, books tech, health and science. The commons is an upscale shopping center and it's quite pleasant to shop for books here! They have a very good selection. It's two stories with a cafe as well. read more

Walking into this Barnes & Nobel is like Christmas to me, I loved reading and I always head over to staff recommendations. It's always a blast seeing books you liked being recommended too. Went in the store for the first time yesterday and had a mostly positive experience. But, there was one specific manager (white woman with dyed red hair, looked mid-twenties) who was going around the store and being very rude to customers. I was in the children's section of the store with my 5 year old son when I saw her go up to a friend group of about 4-5 people and started cursing them out for some reason. They weren't doing anything wrong before she approached. I took my son away from the situation when I heard her use multiple f-words. From all I could tell the group was confused by her. Later when I left the store I saw her getting onto another customer. I hope this is seen and addressed, that is why I'm writing this. This behavior is not at all appropriate in any workplace. read more

Over the past 10 years, I have given the Calabasas Barnes & Noble everything from a 1-Star to a 5-Star review... Proof positive that the store manager makes all the difference in the world! Today I had a 5-Star experience and I have to give credit where credit is due! I walked into the store, walked straight up to the Customer Service Desk with a tough question and was amazed by how "above and beyond" Tom went to try and help me find the book I am looking for. Just so you can know how hard my question was, "I remember part of the plot but NOT the author or the book title!" Undaunted, Tom started typing on his computer, asking me follow up questions about what I remember and steadily narrowing the search to books by Isaac Asimov and Ray Bradbury. He then helped me eliminate books where the plot involved time travel (I admit I am a sci fi nut) but diverged from what I remember. HOW AWESOME is that!!! read more

We met friends at the Commons on Memorial Day for lunch and a catch-up visit. After we ate our fill and hung out for a few hours, we parted ways. Dear Hubby and I weren't in a hurry to get home, so to enjoy the rest of the holiday afternoon, we strolled over to Barnes & Noble. For the last few months we've been alternating between visiting botanical gardens / going on garden tours, with checking out the historical sites in the Passport 2 History program. Many of the historic venues have small gift shops, which often include books from the "Visions of America" books series. I didn't realize that if you didn't buy them in each area, it would be hard to get them further away. They do carry a number of them at B&N - mostly for the San Fernando Valley and Ventura County. I picked one up about the Conejo Valley. Also found the only copy they had on the sales floor on 50 great public gardens in California. There was a Memorial Day Sale on, so I scored a decent discount. Hadn't been in this location before. Like other Yelp reviewers, I have to agree that it's a good thing to support bookstores these days. So many have gone by the wayside. Of course, you can get the books online. There's something satisfying about wandering the stacks, browsing through books you might not have seen otherwise. Of course, finding a quiet place to dig deeper and see if you want to take your selection home is great, too. I'll be visiting this store again when in the area. As you would expect from a store in this Calabasas shopping center, this Barnes & Noble is large, clean, and very impressive. Inventory is plentiful over their 2 stories so chances are you will find what you are looking for. I especially appreciate the large children's section. My son had a blast going through all the rows of books trying to find just the right one to go home with. I often come to this location for their periodicals in particular. I will admit I am in a minority of people who still like to read magazines, but that means it is getting harder and harder for me to find some of my favorite publications. But this Barnes & Noble? They always seem to have what I'm looking for. And I appreciate that greatly. One thing that this location does lack it's employee availability. It seems like I can never find someone to help me out when I need it. For a store this large, it just feels understaffed. Most employees are stuck behind the registers which is nice for when you're ready to check out, but when you need help finding something...you've got 1 maybe 2 people behind the info desk at that's it. You won't find anyone roaming the isles doing restock or anything. And that's disappointing. But if you know just what you're looking for and where to find it? My family was enjoying an Friday evening as we always do after our kids wrap up their activities for the day. Went to dinner, had some ice cream and stepped into Barnes Nobles for some coffee to pick out some new books. Our kids friends were with us as well. My wife and I ordered coffee then sat at the tables. The two boys went off to pick out some stuff, while the girls sat with us. They were quick to return with a story that some older boys were calling them over, messing with them and had made some racist comments. The comments were not inline with our ethnicity, but none the less racist. We thought it was an April Fools joke at first but the story was detailed and you could see that they were taken back by what had happened. They told us how Sharlene, a employee at Barnes and Nobles, over heard the comments and quickly took action to confront them and kick them out the store. We went to go see Sharlene to thank her. She was so thoughtful and continued to tell the boys that it's not ok to be treated like that and always stand up for yourself. For those of us that have grew up around this our whole lives have become numb to some degree. But this was a reminder from a young adult (none the less), that it is not ok. We spoke to the manager, who was already on it, he had notified mall security and was going to write up the incident. I didn't get his name but he was very kind as well. There was even a 3rd employee that the boys said came to them to apologize for what had happened. I just wanted to thank the management and staff at Barnes and Nobles for being kind, thoughtful and helping stand up for our kids. Being born and raised as a minority in LA I have seen a lot and heard a lot, but things will continue to get better because of companies that hire people that have integrity and simple human compassion. This place is amazing Very comfortable and open feel with a large inventory of reading material. One of the larger bookstores I have seen still in existence. What a wonderful experience to go through physical reading material instead of being bound by internet material.
