This place is amazing, best of all the people working there. My wife and I came down 2 weeks ago from Northern California and they welcomed us in, chatted with us, we joked around. We talked about our cats haha. They are so knowledgeable and love how they have everything organized by decades. They gave my wife a trivia question and because she got it right, wink, wink, they let her pick 2 comics for free. Such a wonderful place! I collected comics in the early 90s and coincidentally found this gem next to the studio where my triplet 6-year old boys are learning the piano. I couldn't help myself but pick up some nostalgic memorabilia. Looking forward to sharing this tangible (no iPads here) experience with my boys. Spero's Heroes is a fantastic comic book store that definitely brought out my inner geek. The staff were kind, enthusiastic, and friendly. They were very accommodating to my gf and myself and their 4 legged team member was very cute. The selection was rather vast and all fairly priced. The team was even super generous enough to provide us with the opportunity of winning an issue, after successfully answering a trivia question :) The team informed me that they were also in the process of expanding their manga catalogue and even asked for some suggestions of what I would like to see which shows how they value their customers' opinions and feedback. Spero's Heroes is my number one go-to for the older comics I'm collecting. The staff are delightfully friendly and the selection is easy to search through. I don't make it here as often as I'd like, but it's always a treat when I do. Be warned, though, the staff are SO pleasant and the ambiance SO inviting that one could easily spend much more time here than initially planned. I have. I have bought at other stores in town (because even Spero's doesn't have everything every day). But, when I do, I invariably end up asking myself how much better the price would have been here. Great store for back issues. Found some great Nexus and BPRD issues in the dollar bins. Everything is pretty well organized as far as the boxes go, but looking in them you might need to dig a bit to find what you're looking for. They have a neat trivia game as an incentive to keep coming back. I will be returning to see what their Aliens DH cache will yield! read more

We visited Spero's as part of our Southern California road trip, and it was without a doubt the highlight of our trip. My husband likes oldish comics in readable condition, so when he saw that they had an entire ROOM of $1.00 comics he was overwhelmed, then thrilled. The boxes are all sorted and labeled to make it easier to find what you like. We had a great time searching and my husband went home with a whole box full of comics, but the best part was visiting with the staff. They are so friendly, so much fun, so kind, the type of people you want to just hang out with all day. They have an impressive collection of really valuable comics that they brought down to show us, just for fun, which was really cool. My wife took me to Spero's a few months back for my birthday. We planned on spending thirty minutes hunting for comics but ended up spending over two hours there taking to some of the kindest and caring people we've met, Reza, Elliott and Loki. Since that first stop, I've visited hidden on multiple occasions and just redeemed my first stamp card at their Halloween event! Although they have great comics and get fresh produce weekly, it's the people that keep me coming back. Reza runs the store like its his own and treats every customer like they're a guest in his home. Kevin is a wonderful conversationalist and always shows genuine interest in whatever I'd like to talk about. Loki is the shop's secret weapon as she fills the room with energy and laughter. Last but certainly not least, Elliott, the godfather, is responsible for creating this special culture that keeps me and so many others coming back. You can tell he loves comics, but he loves people more than anything. If you're looking for comics, this is the place. I read on a few different lists that this place was the spot to go for back issues, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. The staff was exceptionally friendly to me and my wife, and they pointed me exactly at what I was looking for. I came in on the hunt for '90s green lantern back issues, expecting to find two or three, but I ended up with a huge chunk of issues that I needed with more left behind that I didn't grab...the selection of the back issues here is unparalleled and well worth making the trip out here from the neighboring areas. At checkout, they even do a trivia question, and if you answer it correctly, you get a free 3-9 $ comic of your choice! I will most certainly return here for all my back issue needs. I have been to Spero's a few times now and I have left the store each time feeling completely satisfied. I have spent many hours searching through their curated whole collections and flipping through 50 cent issues in the back room. The last time I went I decided to do a short box fill up. They give you a short box and you can fill it with as many comics that will fit. I spent a good chunk of my afternoon pulling down their various boxes and flipping through back issues. They have a great and organized selection from all publishers in the back room. They only charge $65 for the short box fill up and you keep the short box. I also wanted to note how kind everyone at the shop was. They checked in periodically but not in a way that was disruptive. One associate made sure to ask if I was having fun, which I found to be such a sweet sentiment. These are people who love comics and want to make sure their customers are having a great time looking at their inventory. I was indeed having fun. One thing I want to note to any reader is that this isn't a place to set up a monthly subscription box. I don't mean that as a criticism, just looking to inform that this isn't a shop where you can peruse new weekly releases on the rack. They have plenty of recent releases in stock of course. I can't wait to come back. These trips to Spero's do a lot of the heavy lifting with filling the gaps in my collections. Thank you Spero's! read more

Lovely little gem of a comic book store. Boxes upon boxes of comics to peruse through. In the front, they have some "valuable" comics up. what's cool is they put up comics for sale on their Instagram and you can buy it for pickup or shipping. I've bought two comics that way. I have never felt more like family in any other comic shop I've visited. The staff welcome you warmly every time you visit, give tours, point out new books, and even invite you to play a trivia game at the counter with a chance to win free books every time you check out. One of the things that stand out to me which is not very common among most shops is the diversity in the staff. My son has been wanting to come here for weeks, and we finally made it happen today. The inventory at this place is great, but what made it extra amazing are the people who work here.
