We had a fantastic time at Collector's Paradise, where we got to meet Joe Casey and Jeremy Adam! Also grabbed a bunch of Dog Man graphic novels for Kaylee.

This is my local comic book shop and I want to share with everyone in to starting or finishing or picking up a new collection to give these guys a try. I think what makes collectors paradise my favorite comic book store in the valley is that the people there are so knowledgeable and amazing. You can tell in the first two seconds of talking with them that they're very passionate about what they do. And I think that's very important when it comes to the knowledge that it takes encompassing the world of comics.

This is a really middle of the road shop for a couple reasons. To begin with positives, the…read moreselection of back issues is great. They have some stuff that other shops in the valley don't even know about. The selection of new books is great, too. They are well organized, probably the best organization i've seen in a long time at a comic shop. The negatives: prices are way too high for what are basically reader copies, and the presence of the cats in the shop negates the concept of these being "pet free books". Many of the back issues are clearly a bed for the cats, complete with destroyed bags and boards, where the very cute cats have shredded them. Despite this shop having a good stock, the asking prices on every back issue are 2-3$ higher than what I believe is fair. In addition to that, the employees are not terribly welcoming. The gentleman running the counter was downright dismissive, I didn't even get a hello when I walked in the door and made eye contact. I didn't get a single word as I browsed the stacks for at least twenty minutes. The lady working here had a conversation with my wife about the cats, and even talked to my wife about her clothes, but neither employee engaged with me whatsoever. It felt like they thought i was there to cause trouble, even when making a purchase. In addition, this shop is guilty of one of my biggest pet peeves on the planet: not selling displayed merchandise. On the front counter, two small statues were displayed, but when I asked if they were for sale, I was told they still needed to be researched. Man, do it right now, i'm holding the money in my hand for them. In a store with no other customers, and nothing pressing happening, why would you not take two minutes to check the item price on ebay, or even better yet, decide for yourself what seems like a fair price instead of turning away a paying customer? If the item isn't for sale, take it off the sales floor. Stock is excellent, organization is excellent, prices are not good, and customer service is decidedly bad. It feels like the male employee is either suspicious of everything, or gatekeeping the hobby for some reason. I did not feel welcome here.

It's one of the larger comic bookstores in the San Fernando Valley. You can sometimes find a 2-3 month old raw book still at cover price on the stands. You can tell this shop is run by people who truly care about comics and their clients. Highly recommend for both casual readers and serious collectors. The prices are very reasonable.

They have weekly releases on one side of the wall and back issues in boxes that are labeled and very organized. Like most places, they offer pre-orders for releases the following week with a 10% discount but I feel like their process is more convenient and personable as you can just message them through IG to put holds. Plus, they offer free bags & boards! The staff is also super helpful making the whole pre-order/hold process a breeze. My favorite part is going through their online backstock. I love how they keep their site updated so it saves me a lot of time having to sift through boxes. They carry the staples but I appreciate how they also have less popular titles. Even if you're not a fan of comic books, I'd still recommend dropping in to check out their other stuff.

Definitely a nice unique spot in the Northridge mall and I hope more people check it out and keep this mall from becoming the promenade mall or the other defunct malls over the years. They also have a small section with DVDs and CDs, which was such a fun dose of late-'90s and early-2000s nostalgia. I loved it. One of my favorite features was their "Surprise Reads" section. The books are wrapped so you can't see the cover, and each one has a short description of the story or theme instead. It encourages you to choose a book based on the synopsis rather than the cover, which I think is such a fun idea. I've discovered some fantastic books through "Surprise Reads," so I was excited to see they had a section dedicated to them. The staff were super friendly and helpful. They helped me look for a series (The Telesa or Covenant series) that I am trying to get. Unfortunately they didn't have the series but hopefully in the future. The location is great as it is at a mall close to coffee shops to grab you a book and head on for coffee or tea to read and enjoy.

I love their tote bag discount and stamp cards, and if you love books, you'll end up racking up a lot of stamp cards before being able to use them all They also host a lot of fun events like author signings, book bedazzling, and trivia nights. The store is located in the heart of The Village in Topanga and there's ample parking. If you want to read your haul immediately, you'll find a lot of seats just outside the store. The store is also pet-friendly except on days they have pet guests, and they usually post a sign outside.
