Fun store with a lot to offer from every book you can imagine to kits that teach you neat things like juggling, magic, card tricks and they supply everything you need. Also the music area has a good selection of Blu rays and dvds. I wish they advertised this more because I had no idea. They sell a lot of anime figures in this location. I'll admit, I was dreading going here with my kids. But they really wanted a new release on release day and I canceled Amazon and the local independent bookshop is reorganizing (called them twice) so I went. I'm glad we did! I called ahead to Barnes & Nobel, an employee answered the phone and had the book on hold for us. The parking lot is clean, easy and had lots of spaces. The employees were friendly and helpful but not annoying. The store was clean. It was like a fancy library with all the good books. Of course a kid needed the bathroom and they were clean and operable. So much better than the public library! The coffee shop was also clean I and looked at it wistfully... next time. Really strange experience here... I asked an employee to help me find a novel in fiction after I had spent some time looking for it. It was written by a very famous author, published in 1990. The young woman was obviously irritated that she had to walk to the staff computer to look up the book then informed me that the book had not been released yet... even though it came out in 1990 and is currently sold on the Barnes and Noble website. Due to her attitude, I was uncomfortable asking her for more help and a different gentleman was able to lead me directly to the book after I asked. I love Barnes and Noble and I wanted to shop here more, but that experience was just very bizarre and I left the store feeling stupid for even asking a question... :( read more

Tell me why when I bought a book here today and I went online when I got home and it was cheaper? I checked, and if I had decided to order ahead of time and pick up in store I would've been charged the cheaper price. Why isn't the bookstore prices matching to their online prices? Beware! Came into the store this morning and I feel compelled to write this review solely because of how uncomfortable the manager (I'm guessing) made me feel. She was an older woman, bigger build with glasses. She followed me around the store, even into the bathroom where she made sarcastic comments and glared at me at least four different times. Maybe she thought I was stealing? Goes without saying that I was not. For reference I'm a white young adult but I can't imagine how targeted and uncomfortable she may be making other people feel. I hope this reaches someone who might be able to address this concern. It was a genuinely upsetting and deeply uncomfortable experience that I hope does not get repeated. read more

I feel bad for all Barnes and Noble everywhere. I try and go here to support not only small but large bookstore becasue it is got to be hard for them. But I am not going to lie it is hard for me to spend $25.00 on a book when i can get it on my kindle for $12.00. But I do love to browse and see the book before I buy them on the kindle. Came here with my daughter for a birthday gift. Unfortunately, the selection was quite limited and there was no one within the children's department to help. My daughter and I ended up looking around, picking a few books, and sat to read a few stories. That's when I noticed an advertisement for the free kids book club, sign up and receive an email coupon for 30% off your next purchase (off one book). Savings? Sure, why not! So I signed up, took about 5 minutes no biggie. I received the welcome letter, but no coupon. I was running out of time, so went to pay and kindly asked the lady in the register whether she'll honor the coupon. I showed her the newly registered email with the date/time for her reference. She proceeded to tell me "this is why we tell customers to sign up using store computers and not on the phone. You probably won't get it today. I have no way of giving you the coupon." Her response was completely unnecessary and unhelpful. I simply nodded my head, paid, and left. Poor customer service, no effort to resolve the issue. A kind response would have sufficed. read more

The staff is very helpful here! The lady helping me was more than willing to look up a book, try to find it on the shelf and in the back before offering to order it for me. We also an easy conversation about photo editing while she searched. Great experience. Since then I've been back a few times and always had great people to help me, or just ask if I need help. read more

My daughter and I came here with one thing in mind, find a book we would both enjoy to read... why you ask? because we started our own mother/daughter book club!!! The staff at the help desk were GREAT!!! They led us straight to the "Teen Sci FI" area (we were looking for Teen Dis-utopia books). Found a great selection and easily found "our book". While heading to the cashier I inquired about the leather-bound Game of Thrones Book Set... HipHipHooRay they had it. Staff was quick to tell me about their Members Club which would save me money right away with my current purchase and considering the mother/daughter book club i mentioned we would continue to save and receive coupons via email.... a great idea and investment considering we want to keep the books we read and add them to our personal library. I love to get books from Barnes and Nobles because of the great service and amazing books. They have great service. I only have had one person that has given me bad service. The service always helps me get a book that is my style. Then they have amazing books. They always have my style of book at Barnes and Nobles. Also I go there for every book I HAVE! I came to your store to xmas shop last week. I was looking at some toys for my students, and noticed 2 customers with pets in your store. These were not service animals. Just crazy customers thinking they need there pets to shop with them. What is your policy? Seemed as they were never asked about the pets by any employees, as they were in your store for a long time. Rediculous that you would cater to a few crazy people, and not think of the other 99.9% of the customers that don't want to shop with dogs and cats. read more

I shop here fairly regularly. The selection is decent. I don't know how this business model has lasted this long, with zero discounting, but I will buy things to try to be a good citizen and keep brick and mortar stores open. The reason I ding them so heavily in my rating is that it just about never fails that there is a gigantic line of people waiting to pay and one or MAYBE two cashiers working. Just earlier today this happened again. Here's the story. Four-something p.m. on a Sunday. I have a Kindle but feel like getting a real book today. I take my Bookmarks Magazine with me and once in the store, I browse the magazine for suggestions. I find two books that the magazine recommends, one $15 and one $16, both paperbacks, see my remarks above about the lack of discounting. Ridiculous prices. Anyway, I head to the cashier area to find a huge line, at least fifteen customers waiting to pay. There is one utterly clueless-looking kid behind the counter. He is having a rough day, I can see. The customer he is trying to help has caused some sort of hiccup in the process and the kid is just sort of staring behind the counter, trying to find something unsuccessfully. To his credit, within a three minute period, he called for back-up twice. No one came. When he abandoned his post, I gave up and went to return my books to the shelf. Bless his heart, he was going to physically drag another cashier to help him. When I was putting my books back on the shelf, there were two B&N workers just standing there (in my way, by the way) chatting. I said "there are like 20 people in line and I was one of them but I'm not anymore". They both headed to the front and called after me as I departed "all the registers are being used." Um, no, they weren't. It is just a bummer. All the people in line waiting to pay should be the most important thing for every worker there and that's just about never the case. I feel ripped off too because here I am willing to shell out $31 + tax for two books that I could get online, delivered in two or three days, for, oh, let me go check, hang on. The total at amazon: $16.78, delivered (I have Prime). Even at bn.com they discount books - just not in the stores. What's that about. Anyway, I'm willing to spread a little scratch around on a Sunday, and I literally can't, not without waiting God knows how long for the privilege. Boo. read more

Terrible sales pressure to manipulate customers into buying their membership after standing in line at the register.. I will never go to any Barnes and Noble store again. The cashiers will not take no for an answer, and continue to try to get you to buy the membership even after being told "no". It's creepy and no wonder Barnes and Noble has been doing so poorly. Hello! I am a very unhappy customer who walked out of the SW Lakewood Barnes and Noble store near Bowels and Wadsworth today. First I called ahead to make sure they had a book I wanted and I went there to pick it up. The cashier was not to bright and a whole lot less then helpful. She typed in my items ( by then I had found two more things I wanted to buy. ) There is something wrong with the cash register printer. She wanted me to sign for a credit slip that I could not read even the amount I was signing for. She got very upset with me and then called over someone named Melody who was apparently in charge. Melody was rude and even more unhelpful than the orginial cashier. (It seems to be standard operation to ask customers to sign unreadable transactions at this store or at least at that register.) Melody said she voided my transaction. However, I have no proof of that and I was not provided any documentation. Someone needs to look into what is going on there??? (scam/idenity theft or other) Someone else needs to be put in charge and all employees need customer service 101. It seems that it is very reasonable to expect to read the transactions one signs for when shopping!!! Just FYI read more

coffee shop island in the middle. different store layout than i am used to but they had everything i was looking for - magazines, books, etc.. the etc part keeps growing and the toy department in here had some pretty cool toys too. staff tried to help me find things but i knew what i was looking for, and browsing is half the fun of going to a store instead of buying it online. read more

I've been a member of Barnes and Noble for twelve years and have never had a problem with them. Tonight, I went to this store, like I do on many nights, and I took my kids with me. I needed to study and my eleven year old wanted the rest of the Percy Jackson books, my four year old loves the train tables (we bought one from there over Christmas for him and now he goes a couple times a month to pick out a new train)and my one year old loves the books with the stuffed animals that go with them. I had a manager yell at me not even five minutes into us walking into the children's area because she was closing early and didn't want a mess made or my kids touching the things in the children's area. It was about 6:55pm and wasn't due to close until 9pm instead of the normal 10pm so it wasn't that I was showing up last minute or anything of the sorts. I explained to her we were buying the two sea horses my daughter had picked up coming in and would gladly pay for them immediately so it was our stuff she was playing with thinking that should resolve the issue. She said she didn't care what I was purchasing and that all the customers in this store brought their kids there and trashed her store. I was so appalled at her comments I decided to leave immediately and asked her to also refund my membership. I was even more upset at the fact that she could lose a customer of twelve years and who spends $2400 per year on engineering text books for myself not to mention all of my children's (four kids) purchases who she considers unwelcome, the $3700 my husband spends on his masters text books plus our books we buy for casual reading. I pulled my receipts I have for last year and they totaled over eleven thousand, and I wish I could return every single book after the way this lady treated me. I asked for a manager and was told by her she was the manager. I did contact their customer service number and as usual they were a pleasure to deal with and told me my children were always welcome, through my membership could confirm I was a very loyal customer and were sincerely apologetic about the incident. As usual they treated me with respect ...however, I'm not going to be comfortable ever going back here or taking my kids there. I'm also not willing to drive eight miles to another one when there is a Borders inside Southwest Plaza. Unfortunately, I think our business ties are severed until the day they fire this manager. I'm disgusted to say the least. As any other parent, if your children are not welcome in essence neither are you. I can also understand that kids go in there and trash the place at times and parents should be mindful but she also has no right to say something when they clearly hadn't even had an opportunity to look except for two sea horses I was already purchasing. read more

I have been frustrated with Barnes and Noble at finding books that I thought were quite common, such as books on hockey basics and a religious book called Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. I have never found a book on the shelf that I came in looking for. Rather, I have had to order every book I've wanted, which leads me to question why I continue to give them my business if they aren't going to have what I want in stock EVER! I have felt that the staff were not apologetic in response to my frustration and acted as if I am bothersome to them. They can improve greatly on their customer service. If I come to a bookseller, I want the book NOW! If I wanted to wait, I'd order it online myself rather than have the bookseller do so for me! Grrrrrrrrrr! read more

I would give this store a higher review if it was just for the store itself. Love the layout and the coffee shop. They always seem to have what I need, however the 2 times they didn't and I had them order the items I was never contacted to pick them up and when I contacted them they either hadn't actually been order (I prepaid) or they said they ordered them and the order was somehow cancelled and they cant get the item any longer (also prepaid). Waited 25min for a manager to refund my money and they only wanted to give me a credit because I didn't have a receipt which I was told if I needed to return the item I use the shipping receipt. Well I didn't get the item so no shipping receipt. My biggest problem is in the lack of knowledge. I obtained a membership and was told I would receive my discounts and when I asked about online orders I was told I got the discount and free shipping. Well "LIE" No you don't you get expedited shipping but anyone gets free shipping if they spend over $25. ANd no additional discounts. I was told that with my membership I didn't need a receipt for returns "LIE" first of all the girl at the register kept telling me they couldn't look it up with my membership finally I said get someone, and that person verified that she could. Her only apology "she's new". I get being new but I told her 5 times that she was wrong and she refused to get a manager. Then they look up the receipt and the best they can do is a store credit. Well why not tell me that in the beginning. Here I am thinking I get $59 back in case and nope only store credit. What could I do I took my store credit and told them by offering the knowledge of the receipt lookup without declaring the fact that it isn't really a full return is deceitful.
