We do go to this location more often than other Barnes locations because it is closer but once again, we went in last night and Jasmine was visibly horrible to us. We walked in, she glared at us- I tried not to think much of it, but as she was finishing ringing me up I looked up to thank her and she was literally grimacing at me, and this was after she tried to hurriedly ring me up without even asking if I was a rewards member (I am) or anything else. I keep trying to give her the benefit of the doubt because I also work in retail, but girl just seems miserable. Literally I have NO other issues with any other employee there, everyone else has been so kind so I brought my review up to 4 stars from 3. But if you're going to give me a dirty look Jasmine, wait until I turn around. This is a smaller location but I'll continue to visit, I just really hope Jasmine isn't there- it's always uncomfortable when she is. read more

Honestly so disappointed in the customer service of this location now. This is a long one. I used to go to the previous location and customer service was always on point. Sales associates were friendly, helpful, and always down to talk about books. Now... I feel like I'm a bother for just wanting to buy my books and leave. This experience was the one that kinda left me wondering why do I bother with this location... (It's the closest location to me soo I guess there's that) First waiting 5 mins when multiples registers are open and only one other patron making a purchase for an associate to finally walk back to their register to help us. Young lady ended up being super friendly and all was fine - she's why this gets a redemption of 3 stars - Stardew pin gal you're cool. My family and I walk out I see a bookmark I wanted and u turn back in line. I get helped by a different woman - blond curls (really pretty hair, also I know both your names but don want you in trouble just disappointed) - who seemed completely bothered by helping me. Ok whatever we all have our days. She lets me know my membership is expired...something stardew lady missed. I ask damn ok I wasn't informed can I bring back my books return and repurchase and re up my membership. Now she seemed doubly annoyed and bothered. Come back in a few days she says. I let her know: no no we just walked out with the books they're here. She responds I know just come back in two days..... I look back at the line - empty. Umm so you want me to come back?? Yeah and just talk to whoever is here and explain what you want. Confused I walked out and hear her sigh and when I looked back the three sales associates went back to being huddled and chatting. Double checked policy.... Nope not a policy thing returning books.... TO REPURCHASE WITH MY REUPPED SUB is not against policy. Called a different store they said yeah they should've just done it in the moment. Checked stores hours not close to closing so that's not it. There have been other instances of weird stand off behavior that has left me wondering WTF is going on... Look y'all I'm not gonna tell you how to live your lives or where you should be working, just remember both sides of the counter are human and in a world where being a BIPOC is getting more and more dangerous, a friendlier attitude can go a long way. read more

This location reminds me a lot of the Barnes back in the day when they weren't these massive stores with tons of tchotchkes. The emphasis at location is mainly books and I love that checkout is at the entrance unlike The Grove where it's at the very back and you have to ping pong your way through tables to exit with your purchase. It's been great having a Barnes & Noble conveniently located in the Marina since the previous location closed. I love the book layout making it easy to find books of interest. If you're not sure what you're looking for or where to begin, just start with the "Best Sellers" table at the front of the store or look for the "Staff picks". There's also a nice selection of gift items for book lovers: candles, journals, bookmarks, mugs, etc. I personally love purchased Barnes & Noble gift cards for students. read more

I hadn't visited this location in years, and I forgot just how big and beautiful it is. The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, and the selection has something for everyone at every price point. The way everything is organized and displayed is truly chef's kiss. And of course--nothing beats that new‑book smell. It's tucked into a cute shopping center with a Starbucks, Shake Shack, and a few other spots, so the parking lot can get pretty busy. Book stores I find to be calming and a way to relax as you stroll through the many options your imagination can explore or the knowledge your brain can acquire. Barnes & Noble in Marina Del Rey is the old Amazon store. It use to be in the shopping center up the street. This location is a great upgrade. Pros 1. Superb customer service! 2. Abundance of books. If they don't have they will order. 3. Legos, Legos, and Legos!!! Barnes & Noble have Lego Exclusives :) 4. Greeting cards, bookmarks, and journals are also sold here. 5. Free parking lot with plenty of parking. 6. Shopping center boasts others stores and eateries all within walkkng distance. 7. Clean, organized, and easy to find your genre of choice. Cons I wish we had more book stores. Personal bias here. No cons about this location. Barnes & Noble has been around since 1873, first started out of Charles Barnes home. I love coming to this store. It's clean and orderly. I've come twice so far. I bought two books the first time and two book this last visit. I REALLY appreciate the friendly staff who help me in choosing my next books. One lady said she reads close to a book a day! What??? I'm lucky to get through a book in a month lol. This location is small but has a great selection. They have a great selection of woman and minority written books. If you have kids they also have a great chapter book section. Books were easy to find and staff is available to support when needed. There's a small section to sit but mainly people just sit on the floor or stand while looking over their books. Honestly, it doesn't get a 5 because it's a chain and I'm always and forever a lover of the independent book store. That being said, well designed space. Lots of staff reviews and interesting shelf sections that draw your attention to specific genre. The staff runs some free events for kids that are appreciated and clearly show they are wanting to give back to the community and earn some good will. Parking is a pain. Be patient. This is probably one of the nicest, cleanest bookstores I've been to in a very long time. Everything seemed pristine from the entrance all the way to the back. This is definitely more of a "neighborhood" bookstore than a chain store. They typically only have a few copies of each title, but whether it's biography, fiction, kids, etc. they have a very eclectic selection of books. My only complaint is the physical media, such as DVDs and movies is practically non-existent, and the vinyl selection is almost 10 times the size of the film section, which is very surprising. Nonetheless, the customer service was phenomenal and extremely enjoyable. I would absolutely come back to this location again . read more

First time visiting the new location! This isn't the biggest Barnes & Noble but I came in just to browse so I can't comment on the selection of books necessarily. I found a few great books and they had a deal on books in almost every section for buy one get one 50% off! I think Heather was the name of the girl at the front I talked to. I told them I had a membership but they never asked for my information until I asked to redeem my free tote. Pleasantly impressed by the new location at the Waterside outdoor shopping center in Marina Del Rey, it is clean, fresh, well stocked and has a nice feel to it. the flow of the store allows you to wander throughout and explore all the genres of literacy and novelties. There are little sections that are created by the book shelves which give a sense of intimacy and allow you to browse quietly. every area has a chair or two to give you a moment to sit and focus or read the synopsis while deciding if the book is right for you. There's also a kids big book section in the back with kid chair cubicles, they also sell toys and games. Overall it's wonderful. Let's keep the love for reading alive. Lots of free parking along with other restaurants and shops. read more

I went to this store trying to buy a New Yorker magazine. I'm about to have surgery & walk with a cane. The salesperson took me to the magazine rack, & said they were sold out of New Yorker's. About 1/3 hour later I left the store, glanced at the rack in another spot. Sure enough, New Yorker magazines. The mgr did not apologize. She tried to stop me in the way out after I bought the magazine, telling she wanted to talk to me. Don't go there. read more

Small Barnes and Noble with cozy chairs sprinkled throughout but no designated reading area or cafe like in some Barnes and Noble. Cashier was super kind and helpful when I needed to return an online order. Even though it's small, there still seemed to be a ton of options in any genre. Very clean and has bathrooms. I have been a super loyal fan of this store since the other location and this new one as well. My family and me are premium members so we enjoy the benefits and discounts of shopping frequently here and I buy several books and lots of gifts for myself that you can't find anywhere else. Customer service here is exceptional. They are extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful for getting books that are one of a kind and rare. I have these books that are just keepers and the ones where I can read them over and over for reference over the course of my lifetime. They are classics and absolutely worth every penny. I spend easily over $100 every time I come here because the topics are so unique. I cannot wait to come back here again and shop. I have been reading a lot and the knowledge from these books are priceless. They seriously improved my life and it is an investment for yourself and most of these things can be given as gifts. I'd like to give this store a higher review and really dislike giving negative reviews but the BN website does not allow for direct contact so I am going public. The staff here are very nice and professional. But the management force them to "sell" customers on irrelevant books at check out which is demeaning to their employees and annoying, to say the least, to customers. I bought a book by Salman Rushdie the other day and the sales clerk told me I should read Long Island by Colm Toibin, that it was excellent - I couldn't understand why she was suggesting that, so I simply told her I'd already read it (which I had). Then she told me that I should read a particular mystery, another book that was on the checkout table. Clearly, management is pushing certain books. I was really annoyed at being sold books I didn't want and felt sorry for her at having to do this, as she clearly wasn't comfortable. It is shameful and exactly what causes people to shop on line instead of in store. BN management needs to stop this practice immediately. read more

I am currently sitting in another Barnes and Noble bookstore in studio city CA and frequent visits this United Kingdom book chain is excellent and I have memories of the Santa Monica store from years ago I enjoy reading and seek out vintage and first edition books and those signed by authors This store is now a rarity as many smaller stores are gone - probably because of such larger store chains though Barnes and Noble may be contributing to such demise it fills the gap created as an oasis for the serious readers I am amazed that with media being what it is that people are still reading books at all Thankfully they are and Barnes and Noble are contributing to that objective -Mr. Randazzo read more
