The Book Jewel instantly brought me back to the neighborhood bookstores of years past--warm, welcoming, and genuinely cozy. It has the kind of atmosphere that invites you to slow down, grab a book, and settle in for a while. Though small in scale, the shop is thoughtfully laid out and manages to offer a little bit of everything. The seating area, with its comfy chairs, rugs, and soft lighting, really adds to the charm and makes the space feel lived-in and inviting. There's even a sweet, sectioned-off area just for the littles, which is a lovely touch. We didn't manage to spot the store cat (must've been on a break), but we did find some great books, so no complaints there. Parking was easy thanks to the large shared lot, which made the visit even more stress-free. We'll definitely be back. read more

I love a cozy independent bookstore, and this is one of the coziest I've seen yet. Lovely place with a robust collection of new and used books. Well-organized across a wide range of genres and interests, the inventory is a pleasure to browse. Lots of lovely gifts and toys, too, including local and California-themed items. Service is welcoming and friendly, with knowledgeable booksellers. Parking is ample and the surrounding area has lots of cute little shops to browse as well. Super cute local bookstore located in a sort of hidden spot! I would have never happened upon this place had my cousin not wanted to shop here. Although I did not purchase anything, they had many local items, such as stickers, canvas tote bags, T-shirts, and of course, all the accessories a bookworm would need. They also had a kids section with plushies and lots of books with a sitting area. There is a parking lot nearby so stop in if you get a chance. read more

I love The Book Jewel. Independent bookstores are becoming more and more rare so to have one thriving in Los Angeles is a gift to the community. The store is well stocked and especially supportive of literary and poetry events. I've been to a couple of readings here and the staff is very enthusiastic about providing a space for people to share their work. (Both invited guests as well as the community at their open mic.) Parking is easy and ample. If you're a fan of books, poetry, or just nice people, you should definitely stop in and support this community gem. read more

Fantastic neighborhood bookstore! I try to order books from them instead of Amazon. If they don't have the book in store, they will order it and call you when it arrives. May not be quite as convenient as Amazon, but I want local bookstores to stick around. Staff are all friendly and very nice. If you choose to visit this great bookstore, please be respectful of the Paiges. Do not rush her or try to grab her, especially if your little ones tag along! She is an extension of the shop and deserves respect and courtesy. I LOVE this place. It's a cozy bookslice of home. I'm often near the stote for work and always navigate us in for a visit which we love! We are here weekly and I love to browse. I recently bought a life changing book there too. The size of the bookstore is also perfect. It's nice and small so it's not too overwhelming. Like being in your grandfathers huge study hehe. The staff are very friendly in a way that isn't intrusive. Plus the bookstore cat that lives there is super chill. I thought it was a stuffed animal at first and I was waaay more startled than it was lol. They have events which I haven't checked out yet but I aspire to. read more

Really cute neighborhood bookstore but every single item was more expensive than its online counterpart. I ended up getting a book because I wanted to support indie bookstores, but I paid more than $8 more for it which hurt my heart a little bit. Also they were very friendly with the other customer and never even greeted me. A little strange but maybe I didn't look like I belonged? I really want to support non-chain bookstores but it hurts the wallet and it wasn't particularly welcoming. Very cute name though and they had a nice stuffed animal selection. read more

I've come here a few times before but since it's not near where I live I typically stop by only when they have a specific event I want to attend or if I'm already in the neighborhood. I like that they will buy back books and give you store credit for it. Note, however, that you can only use the credit for used books and they don't have an easy way for you to browse their used books inventory on your own. Used books are scattered around the store with a small sticker on the book instead of in one section only. read more

I came across this jewel after leaving Rising Willow! It's a must-see! Seriously the ladies running this place were such angels. They greet you as soon as you walk in and are so friendly. I had some time to kill before I needed to start circling the airport to pick up friends, so I came across this clean and orderly bookstore. The only sign of life, aside from a guy lounging on the couches, was the Alta journals. Everything was in its place. The staff seemed to hang out in the center of the store. One staff member offered assistance and was pleasant, but the other seemed indifferent when I later asked about the significant price difference in the same style of bracelets sold at the front of the store. It was hard to see how the store could support two workers. But, these days it is safety in numbers. I suspected the couch guy knew one of the ladies. :) read more

This bookshop was delightful. It was clean, loaded with interesting titles, well organized, and had just enough interesting gifts throughout to be pleasant but still remind you that it's main purpose is being a bookstore. The staff was friendly, it was easy to find, and had a nice cozy sitting area with a fireplace. They do have a cat, but honestly, I found the cat to be somewhat antisocial, LOL. She is a very handsome cat though. If I lived here, I would visit frequently. It's so nice to have an independent bookstore to support. read more

I live in Playa Del Rey and walked to the Staples that is located within this plaza last week to get some exercise. When coming out of Staples, I saw a bookstore across the way. I knew I had to check it out and I'm sure glad I did!!! The Book Jewel is a relatively new bookstore in Westchester and it truly has a great selection of books. I love how the store is organized, everything is very clearly labeled. It's just the right size - not too big and not too small - and it's so clean! There are both new and used books and the prices are reasonable, especially for an independent bookstore! I am looking forward to joining The Book Jewel's monthly book club in the future and attending some other events. I look forward to supporting this independent bookstore for years to come and am so thankful this great bookstore is in my neighborhood! read more

This is one of my favorite local indie bookstores. I love the ambiance of the store and how there are couches to sit down in for some reading. The variety of books is great, and I love that they mix the used with the new. I am a firm believer of purchasing used books, so it's nice to be able to grab them from this store. Sometimes I have found books cheaper online, but I would rather support an indie store rather than save an extra dollar. The staff are friendly and helpful, but also respect boundaries and that people love browsing for books and trinkets at their leisure. #1 employee of forever is the cat, though. read more

Came here to buy a couple of books for my girlfriend as a gift and Madison was so helpful! The store is adorable too. High quality and full of charm as a bookstore should be. A neighborhood gem. This is one of the most beautiful bookstores and it's the last of its kind! It's kind of an obscure location in Westchester but if you go to the farmers market on Sunday, it's an easy place to find and hang out! They have a lot of cool gift items. The staff is amazing!! Recently visited this place with a friend for the first time and had such a great experience. I'm a huge bookworm and felt right at home here. It's a cozy space that's well laid out for the space it occupies. The book selection is great, there's so many cute gifts and toys and odds and ends, again I'm surprised at how much the store had. There's also some cozy seating with chairs and a comfy sofa so you can have a read and a sit. The employee we interacted with were very sweet. I can't wait to come back here again. read more

A gem of a bookstore in Westchester! My friends and I wandered in while waiting for tables at the Ramen Joint. It was a great way to kill time. The Book Jewel has a resident kitty which is already a win in my book. They carry many local authors and products. Signs in the window advertise book signings and events. It's just so cute! Love love love the newest bookstore in Westchester. A few weeks after its opening I walked in to see the new digs. The decor is inviting, colorful, warm and exciting. Nice use of vice colors. Fireplace in reading nook... quaint touch. Returned a few weeks later to make a purchase. Called ahead to check inventory. When I arrived both books had already been pulled and were awaiting my arrival (Kuddos 4 Customer Service).
