I love a cozy independent bookstore, and this is one of the coziest I've seen yet. Lovely place with a robust collection of new and used books. Well-organized across a wide range of genres and interests, the inventory is a pleasure to browse. Lots of lovely gifts and toys, too, including local and California-themed items. Service is welcoming and friendly, with knowledgeable booksellers. Parking is ample and the surrounding area has lots of cute little shops to browse as well. A delightful place to visit and shop!

    Cute!

Super cute local bookstore located in a sort of hidden spot! I would have never happened upon this place had my cousin not wanted to shop here. Although I did not purchase anything, they had many local items, such as stickers, canvas tote bags, T-shirts, and of course, all the accessories a bookworm would need. They also had a kids section with plushies and lots of books with a sitting area. There is a parking lot nearby so stop in if you get a chance.

The open mic is about to begin!

I love The Book Jewel. Independent bookstores are becoming more and more rare so to have one thriving in Los Angeles is a gift to the community. The store is well stocked and especially supportive of literary and poetry events. I've been to a couple of readings here and the staff is very enthusiastic about providing a space for people to share their work. (Both invited guests as well as the community at their open mic.) Parking is easy and ample. If you're a fan of books, poetry, or just nice people, you should definitely stop in and support this community gem.

It's a pleasure every time I come into this shop. Staff are always so hospitable and friendly. There is a shop cat, Paiges, that is very kind if her boundaries are respected. If you choose to visit this great bookstore, please be respectful of the Paiges. Do not rush her or try to grab her, especially if your little ones tag along! She is an extension of the shop and deserves respect and courtesy. ACTUAL service animals would probably have no issue in the shop along with Paiges, so please refrain from bringing in other pets I love this shop and just want it to thrive.

    Follow your inner light.

We walked in, she glared at us- I tried not to think much of it, but as she was finishing ringing me up I looked up to thank her and she was literally grimacing at me, and this was after she tried to hurriedly ring me up without even asking if I was a rewards member (I am) or anything else. I keep trying to give her the benefit of the doubt because I also work in retail, but girl just seems miserable. Literally I have NO other issues with any other employee there, everyone else has been so kind so I brought my review up to 4 stars from 3. But if you're going to give me a dirty look Jasmine, wait until I turn around. This is a smaller location but I'll continue to visit, I just really hope Jasmine isn't there- it's always uncomfortable when she is.

While I was purusing, I heard the sales associates helpiing others with book searches and book club information. It sounds like they have a number of book clubs going at the same time which makes me green with envy. Somebody please open a bookstore like this in Santa Clarita Valley, Ca.! At the time of my visit there was a children's reading event going on in the children's section. There were young adults picking out their spring break reads. There is also a courtyard and coffee shop somewhat attached. I did not try the coffee, but will the next time I am in Manhattan Beach. This is a charming bookstore, well designed, with sooo many staff picks and recommendations. Make sure to pay them a visit when you are in the area. And if you live close by, I hate you :) I paid to park on the street very close to the shop, however there may be other parking I am not sure. Happy Reading!

Came to attend a walking book club with The Preoccupied (check them out on IG) where our walk ended here. One of the strengths of this bookstore is that they feature local authors. The author we walked with actually had her book featured at Zibby's. I like that they support local talent because LA has been through so much this year already. When I came here, it was a little warm inside. Now that could've been because of all the people coming in post-walk but there may have been a chance the AC was having some issues. Now for your frugal auntie tip: participating in The Preoccupied's walking book club provides you with a couple Zibby's related benefits. Upon completing your walk and meeting up at Zibby's, you're rewarded with a 20% off discount at the store to be used right then and there. The book club also meets near Alta and 10th or 11th, which means you can find free residential street parking. Free parking is such a precious commodity in LA, and if you're up for an additional quick walk, consider this during your next visit. Come support this local business that's supporting other locals!

I placed copies of my books there, including a recent title that had been in the store for less than six months. When I followed up, I was told there had been no recorded sales and that books are subject to removal after a period of time without activity. When I returned to the store, I noticed that much of the "local author" section appeared sparsely stocked, which raised concerns for me about how long books are kept on display and how actively they are supported. To be fair, the store did communicate that: Authors are responsible for following up on sales Shelf space is limited Books may be removed after a certain period However, I think it's important for other local authors to understand that: Placement does not guarantee visibility or promotion You may need to actively check in and market your book yourself Unsold books may be pulled without much notice If you're considering consignment, I recommend having a clear plan to promote your work and staying in regular contact with the store. Just sharing my experience so others go in with clear expectations.
