Website says it has a book in stock in the store. They can't find it in stock and in the store and never heard of the book. Also, the young workers have no concept of personal space or politeness. I felt like I was invisible as they tried to walk through me and around me and blocked me from actually looking for an author. Not most friendly customer service based store you'd wanna enter. This particular Barnes and Noble is in a nice location in an add-on to the front of the University Park Mall. It is one of the larger single-floor B&N's I have visited. The selection of books is quite good as I found several items of interest in the travel section. The coffee shop is rather pleasant replete with a fireplace to give it a homey feel. I will look forward to another visit when I am in the area. read more

This store is my home away from home. I come here once a week at least! I've always loved the store, and the selection is amazing. What has been even greater than the books has been the friendly and very helpful staff. Emily the bookseller, in particular, is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic in her help to find either what I'm looking for, to share her latest reads, or chat about coming releases. The Cafe staff (Nick) is very rude. The cheesecake types were mislabeled on the shelf. When my husband nicely pointed out the mistake and tried to get us the correct cake, Nick gave him so much attitude even though it was their fault. It was pulling teeth to get the actual item that we wanted and paid for. Horrible service! read more

The Starbucks in this Barnes & Noble is great! I stopped by the University Park Mall during a half hour of free time I had and randomly stopped by the Starbucks which is unlike me. I don't typically drink coffee, and know very little about it but I decided to pick something random off the menu and try it. Live life on the edge, ya know? Although I had no clue what I was ordering and didn't have answers for the questions the barista asked, she was extremely friendly and patient. I told her I don't drink coffee and didn't know what I was doing, and she made suggestions and took care of it. She was great! Pro-tip: Cold brew is the way to go if you need a boost! It's a book store and they have tables and chairs so people can study and read, which would be nice if they didn't keep treating their store like a community center and kicking people out so they can use the space for book signings (which are never actually in that space) and community theater. I was just in there, got up for some water and came back to see a jerk in a reddish polo shirt and idiotic hair moving my things from a table to a chair. Having completed this important task, he stepped back and explained to everyone that they were going to move all the tables for the South Bend Civic Theater- who has it's own building and doesn't need to help Barnes & Noble ruin it's store any faster than they are doing on their own. I told him it was really frustrating that they do this and he said "Goooooood!" in a voice as fruity and condescending as his hair is badly combed. read more

Eh. It is a corporate bookstore. If you fit within a certain trend they have tons of what you want. They have ton of whatever retail mental health self help etc. Racks of cookbooks that will never be used etc. I gabe ot three stars because the people that work there a re always cheerful and try to be helpful. About 30% of the store isnt even books. Its legos and music media and board games. read more

Typical B&N but a very helpful staff. One of the bigger B&N locations I have been too. I came in and went right to the info desk and asked for 2 books. The woman walked me over to the right section and found exactly what I was looking for in record time. All with a smile as well. Your basic mega-bookstore. I enjoyed going here to get my fix (I wouldn't call myself a bookworm so much as a book junkie) when they were across from Lowe's. However, in the new mall location, traffic has been a nightmare. Whoever designed the mall entrance obviously meant for drivers to slow down when approaching the crosswalks, but only succeeded in creating a huge bottleneck. Now I tend to avoid B&N in fear of the spaced-out moms in giant SUVs who don't understand the difference between "stop" and '"yield" signs and don't realize what the little yellow arrows in the parking lot mean. ARRRRGH! Now I end up going to Borders more often than not. Sad because it's not really B&N's fault, but what can you do? I do give them props for the new store being even more ridiculously huge and having a cool-looking fireplace. I bet it'll be pretty sweet in the winter. read more

With a great new location at the mall, coming to Barnes and Noble has never been more convenient (except during the holiday shopping season). The Good: Usually overall good prices on books (great prices on clearance!); lots of open space; plenty of tables and chairs for reading and relaxing; very good product selection. The Bad: Employees always seem busy, disinterested, or annoyed when asked for assistance; the men's restroom has deplorable and filthy conditions every time I step inside; the Starbucks-branded café does not accept Starbucks cards; way too many incessant overhead promotions and announcements about their Nook tablets. Overall, a nice convenient place to browse and sit for a little bit, but you may be better served buying online and lounging elsewhere if you're looking to be at one place for a while. read more

I used to go to B&N cafe all the time before covid. Best Starbucks in the mall because it was so close to where I worked. I went just about everyday and ordered a hot chocolate or a coffee with a lot of espresso. The baristas all knew me by my name and one time I gave them a $20 tip because they deserved it. I usually ordered off the all and when I'd walk over there I'd pick it up and they'd say "have a great day Charlie." I quit the job at the mall and I miss those Starbucks employees. I'm a big fan of Barnes and Nobel in our mall. I can't quite comment on comparisons to other locations because this one is the only one I've been to..... BUT I love how connected to the community they try to be. There are TONS of free activities and events they plan that are directly connected to our community. I can't wait to start getting out to some of those. I've attended the story time a couple times. The staff there are awesome during the story time and I love how it gets my one year old acclimated to books and reading. Its always clean. They are kid friendly. The staff is always nice. In my opinion, its the perfect place to hang out, read some books, find cool gifts and of course drink your starbucks (conveniently located right inside the books store!) read more

Good lord the bathrooms here are a disaster. You'd think a nice store like this would keep the restrooms a tad bit cleaner than a dumpster in Chicago. Or at least supply a canoe and hazmat suits. Fairly good store with great staff, poor management and poor in-store space planning. The Nook area takes up way too much space. The Nook is important but books will always be the draw for a book store. Too much wasted space in this store. I especially dislike the reduced hours. If you're going to reduce hours, do so during the week days and Sunday. Friday & Saturday nights shouldn't be included. I've heard that this store is closing, probably early 2013. That would be a shame. Fire the current management team and get someone in there with fresh and new ideas. This current store is apparently the best B&N can offer its consumers, the older store had a better location but this store has potential. Really a shame to lose it. read more

The review is only for it's customer service. The manager, Ben, is probably the worst manager I have seen. He does not have the common sense to make a logical judgement. The chances of a customer coming back to the store and asking them to charge the customer more is highly unlikely. Obviously, the customer comes to you if they are overcharged. He would make you wait while he rang people up when there really isn't a line. Does he know his priorities? He was trying to make himself look busy, which is probably why he messed up twice. I don't blame the staff for messing up. They are probably not as well trained as the manager is supposed to be. The manager is supposed to be the one that corrects their mistakes, but for a manager to mess up more than once on the same problem, he probably needs to go through some more training or be replaced. Barnes & Noble does not have a good reputation for its customer service, but it has been proven again and again that it really is as bad as they say it is. read more

When I found that Barnes&Nobles.com had charged my account for an incorrect $98.78 charge to my credit card; I phoned and they removed the charge instantly; too quickly to make me comfortable. Pretty much your standard bookstore. The location of the mall is great, unless it's a holiday. I found a myriad of books, and the café was a great way to grab a snack and read. My big complaint was purchasing books. I was constantly pressured to buy a B&N club card, and if I said no, my reward was a frosty look. In addition, the parking in front could get a bit chaotic, as cars are constantly bottled up and trying to get through without killing pedestrians. read more

This is my local Barnes & Noble store, and while I'm not over there terribly often, it is the B&N I spend the most time at. Over a year ago, I bought one of their Barnes & Noble Classics Edition books. It was shrink-wrapped when I bought it, and it spent most of its life on my bookshelf. I was the only one to read it, and hadn't fully read it through (it's a thick book, and I'm typically pretty busy). About a month ago, I was shocked and horrified to discover that a large portion of one of the pages was torn off. I took it back to this store in hopes of an exchange, though it was unlikely (after all, I had bought the book over a year prior). I was pleasantly surprised when the customer service reps (I really wish that I could remember their names; they were wonderful) took my book in exchange for an undamaged copy, and then uncomplainingly spent quite some time searching the store for said undamaged copy. When they couldn't find one, they ordered a new one free of charge! The staff at this store did an absolutely exemplary job, and I give them full marks for it. If there was an option for more than 5 stars, they would get it. read more
