My partner got a Barnes & Noble gift card for the holidays, so we stopped by here to check it out. It's been years since I've been in an actual bookstore (besides Powells) and it was pleasantly nostalgic. Located inside Lloyd Center mall, the store does have its challenges. It seems easy to access from the parking lot, BUT their exterior doors do not open - I think due to issues of theft. They have security, which isn't the most welcoming. But once you're inside, the store is quite large with plenty of genres. Books are more expensive I think they should be (shoutout to libraries), but if you have a gift card or an author you really want to support, I think it can be worth buying. I wish I could say it's a nice place to sit and read or write - unfortunately, I have to give two stars for the cafe. They have Starbucks branding but aren't an actual Starbucks. They cannot accept Starbucks gift cards or rewards program. And the drinks are not quite right - I requested my peppermint mocha be remade but it came out with a chemical flavor both times. read more

Nice Barnes & Noble inside Lloyd Center! Staff members who I encountered were all friendly. The store is organized and neat, with an open layout that's nice for browsing. Inside there is also a Starbucks with some seating if you want to work there or enjoy a coffee and/or snack. Glad to see B&N is one of the thriving businesses inside Lloyd Center. read more

This was one of the better B&N in the area. Recieved a gift card from here so decided to ship here. There was a good game and toy section for a B&N. The staff was friendly and I found what I needed pretty quickly. It's probably one of the only stores keeping the Lloyd Center afloat. The mall overall is dead. Most stores are closed. It's worth coming over to the Lloyd Center area for this B&N. Especially if you had a gift card you needed to use. Did I feel like I cheated on Powell's or my local bookstore a bit? Maybe but I needed to use the gift card. Overall a pleasant experience at this B&N. read more

Love this Barnes & Noble! It's deceivingly spacious because of the diagonal layout, but the store goes on and on and is well stocked. Entrance from the mall side has a huge window display enticing customers with a sign that says, "Keep Portland Reading" which is a better goal than Keeping Portland Weird, IMHO. They definitely believe in starting the love for books early in life with a huge children's section to the north. It includes the cutest reading area with lots of classic children's books, a seating area under faux trees and a little stage. The Starbucks area is both large and private, great for coffee and browsing a book. In addition to the many books, the gift selection scattered throughout is really amazing! I'm always surprised at the non-reading items I find myself compelled to purchase like really cool wrapping paper, for example. Before a long trip I always stop in to pick up books to read during the flight. Yes, I could download books but I'm old school and like to hold a book, feel and flip the pages. When I'm done, I leave it at the hotel or on the plane for someone else to enjoy. They have a nice selection of adult coloring books, something I'm into as a meditative, creative way to chill. Try it, it's addictive! There is a second entrance right from the parking lot making it super convenient when I am going to to Barnes & Noble as my destination, as opposed going to the mall. Yes, there are security guards and I love that! Lloyd Center has gone downhill due to crime and theft. Stores that make protecting their merchandise and customers a priority get my business. If the security guard is watching me closely, I say good job! I'm not doing anything wrong so I have nothing other than gratitude. Because the store is so big, it's not unusual for me to need assistance. The customer service reps are nice, helpful and give whatever time is needed. I love to read and will continue to visit this location frequently. read more

This particular Barnes and Nobles is one that I have gone to the least in the city yet every time I am here I feel so much joy . Lots of sections and genres and a good amount of variety . Powell's has spoiled me but I try to not compare because they are a different league on their own however B&N is not too far behind . Its stores like this that keep the old school readers like me still interested . There is a lot of seating and if you decide to spend a few hours with a book here no one will bother you . They have a huge kids section of books which is a pattern I have seen in other B&N too. Lots of gifts options and /or things that one doesn't need but will still be tempted to buy . read more

I hadn't been to LLoyd Center since the pandemic started, and I had a free hour, so I thought I'd see what Barnes & Noble was up to. I'm happy to report that it's still great! Yeah, the mall and parking lot felt a bit sketchy, but the store itself was still well-stocked, and the staff were super friendly. The bargain book section (my favorite) has moved--it's to the left of the main mall doors now (right by magazines). But there were tons of great titles, and even one that had been much more expensive elsewhere. I also got to see all the latest cookbooks that I've been stalking online, which made me really happy. And both employees I spoke to were really helpful, and eager to chat. read more

I spent hours here. What a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I came to this one because it's huge. I was looking for some daily quotes and inspirational books. I happen to ask this nice young man that was in the same isle I started in. He was so helpful he took me around to a few spots to show me where I could find what I was looking for. Then before he departed. He asked "what else were can I help you find today" I had to think about it.... oh I know "mindful thinking"! He said "great let me take you over here". lol So he brought me to a section that had so many things. I was in trouble. Lol I came in for just one book. I ended up leaving with 4 and joined the book club. Thank you Mr Helper. You were so helpful and kind. We need more of you in the customer service industry. read more

I like Barnes and nobles Café because you can sit there and enjoy your coffee. Usually it's not so busy there. I like their flatbread pizza. It's really good if you wanna quick bite with coffee. One of my fav spots in Lloyd center. read more

Best Starbucks ever. I had the best pink drink ever. She also gave us an extra shot in our iced coffee for free just because! Great service. Great books. I highly recommend the book Pachinko. Also they have cute shopping bags. If you want to give a renewable wrapping paper to someone, you should purchase a book and receive a nice green bag. Nice shopping experience. Barista with dinosaur face mask was the best PS Tom T you suck. Nobody cares about mens interest as illustrated by them removing the section due to LOW DEMAND. I get a gift card for here every Christmas from my Dad (so does my husband). My Dad likes to get his gifts at the grocery store. We tend to buy music since we try and buy are books at Powels. We do like that we can preview the music with the system they have here. Well this year things were different. The music had to be almost a year old to be on their system. It is a big bookstore in a world where there are fewer and fewer of those. And that's a good thing. There's a cozy cafe, too. My elderly in-laws thought it would be the perfect place to shop and have a cup of tea while I saw my dentist a few blocks away. They enjoyed themselves, and when I returned to pick them up my father-in-law, who was in a wheelchair, asked to use the restroom. The staff directed us to the back of the store where we found that the accessible stall was out of order. There were paper towels strewn around the floor and a mop leaning against the wall. I've seen cleaner rest rooms at rest stops on I-5. I mentioned it to an employee and he apologized and said that a plumber would come the next day to fix the toilet but did not explain the overall messiness of the place. So my advice is to patronize the store and the cafe but use the Lloyd Center restrooms up one floor. read more

This B&N is a good size, with a well-laid out - eh, layout. When you walk in, the magazines are to the left and the café is straight ahead. To the immediate right is the checkout counter and the rest of the store is everything else. The sections are clearly marked and sorted by general topic or type of book. They have everything from fiction, fantasy, romance, biography, classics, etc. They have a cool selection of books on local things like Oregon trails, pet friendly travel in Oregon, and much more. What's cool is they have a whole section on American History (AHEM, to the guy who said there are 0 books on WW1), and history in general including many books on WW1. Another feature of this B&N is that there is a HUGE kiddies section at the end of the store. Here, kids will be able to find just about any book they are looking for. The café section is large, and many people use the sitting area to sip something tasty while reading enthralling and entertaining stories. They have free WiFI (in addition to the WiFi offered by the Lloyd Center Mall), and you just have to accept the terms of use and voila, you're online. I would go back to this B&N, as it offers a nice place to take a break from a long day of shopping. read more

I was treated like small time crook when I came in for an exchange. You folks (B&N) wonder why you are loosing all your biz to Amazon. Wake up B&N, wake up. I have never before been to a Barnes and Noble with such few seating options! And then the security guard gave us (potential customers) a hard time for sitting up against the window when there was no where else to sit. But he was apparently just fine with the woman sitting up against the window on the other side of the glass, ya know, outside where she wouldn't be buying anything. I came in on my lunch break to pass time, which I occasionally do, and grabbed a DC Comic book in the comic section to browse over. The last time I was here I was felt unwelcome (profiled) by a couple of employees. Interestingly enough, the same thing happened this time around. I'm not sure if it was the book section that I was in, or something else entirely that kept making them profile me, but it was sadly a bad experience. read more

With so many good bookstores in Portland chain stores like this to me don't make much sense. The selection is immense, but the prices aren't great, the atmosphere is corporate, and the service is usually so so. This location is okay, but there are bookstores that are more fun to shop in. read more

OK. I'm just going to admit it: I used to live in the burbs. It's awful, I KNOW! I'm so, so sorry for my lack of coolness! I am!!! Whew. Now, back to my story: When I lived in the burbs, the only thing to do was go to B&N, grab a Starbucks, and chill in a big puffy green chair for hours on end. And it's true, no one would bug you there. It was pretty quiet in the back. You could loiter until a bit after closing, get a ton of work done, suck up the free A/C, and no one could care less. There was a numbing kind of comfort in that. So every once in a while, like a nasty pang for the Wonder bread of my youth, I want to loiter in a B&N for a few hours and spend a fortune staying wildly caffeinated. Is that so wrong? The problem is that there are apparently no puffy green chairs at B&N anymore, only the hard wooden ones. The coffee's been sitting out just a little too long, and the vapid stares of the employees when you ask about a book seem more pronounced all of a sudden. Sigh. "Oft expectation fails" and whatever. read more

I love this place so much, I can read and drink coffee at the same time. A great homey place I can spend the day in. I am a bookworm so I can browse and look at as many books as I please. There is a wide selection and I love how there is more than just books, like journals and coloring books. There is also a section great for kids! read more

The workers at the cafe are on top of it! I work in Lloyd Center and I always go here when I need coffee or a quick snack. I never have to wait more than a few minutes on my drink and they are always willing to strike up a conversation with you. Chelsea is awesome and I love it when she is making the drinks because she never pours dead espresso shots and is awesome in getting me everything I need at a fast pace. read more

Review of Starbucks in there + the bookstore Starbucks, I am reviewing on here to prevent confusion, since there is another one in lloyd center, this one is inside Barnes and Nobles. I like this one, in the sense, that they have ice water out that was really COLD. The workers were like any other as with service, except I was surprised that in this one, the workers looked different. Piercings and dyed green hair. The bookstore I thinks it's a very cute and well organized place. Around the childrens area, there are benches that have signs that say event around them, so maybe story telling? read more

My name is Osman I am a student at Madison High School. We were sitting in the cafe inside the Barnes & Noble and were aproched by a security guard. He had threatend to kick us out if we hadn't bought and item in 5 minutes, while we were working on career goal setting information. We had a few people purchased some items so we can continue working, then security guard came back and ended up kicking us out of the store. I felt disrespected and embarrassed becuase the secuirty guard made a huge scene that made other costumers uncomfortable as well. read more

I love the discounts I get with my Barnes and Noble membership. This is a good place to come with the kids to pass the time on a rainy day.

So some friends and I had just finished eating at the lloyd center food court, and we were going to discuss some important things we needed to cover at Barnes and Nobles. As we sat down at the Starbucks there we started chatting for about 10-15 minutes when the security aggressively approached us and forcefully asked us to buy something or leave. As a store policy I'm sure it's a rule, and we understand this. It's just the way he approached us that made it uncomfortable for us and others sitting around. As the result with this argument two customers had looked at the guard frightened and left. If he could have been more respectful it would have been greatly appreciated. He threatened to call the police on our group leader and us (students). Of coarse we intended to purchase something; most likely a frappé. We needed to finish discussing our meeting first. It was clean and clear, that we were not the only ones without a purchase at the time. read more

This review is for the Starbucks inside BN. Absolutely the most horrific, apathetic service I've ever dealt with from a Starbucks, where at any other location the employees are cheerful and polite. Greeted the girl behind the counter (brunette) and asked her how she was, paid for my food/drink and rather than say thank you, or tell me my coffee & food would be ready shortly, she asked me if I needed a receipt and when I said no, she simply turned around and walked into the back. I was dumbfounded. Didn't know when I'd be getting my food, but saw another girl getting my drink prepared (faded blond dye job). She called out my drink name (there was no one else waiting or nearby) and when I said thank you as she put it on the counter, she just turned around and started doing something else, like I was invisible. I waited and waited for my food, and she finally blurted 'are you waiting for something' and I explained what it was and she asked the girl who'd taken my order several times about my food and the original girl snapped at her sarcastically that she took my order (no one told me if it was being heated, what the deal was, nothing). Finally, several minutes later (10 minutes at a Starbucks waiting for food as the only person there? wtf?) a third girl (blue/green hair) called out my food item, tossed it on the counter, and with my THIRD thank you, still ignored me and went to work. Really? Can't be bothered to say thank you to customers or show the least bit of courtesy? They were all such a-holes to me that I will never go in there again. Starbucks should fire all three of them and start from scratch. Pathetic. read more

I am a students enrolled in Madison High School. I am in a school program called Escalera which helps students of Hispanic heritage achieve their goals of attending college. We felt harassed and embarrassed by the Security Guard at this Barnes and Nobles. We were sitting down in the cafe when a Security Guard came and forcefully asked us to either buy something in the next 5 min or, to leave. All we did was use the Wifi for group work on careers and colleges. People started to stare and the situation got really awkward. He then threatens to call the police on all of use. I felt this situation could have been handle differently if the security guard was more polite and approach us with a formal and mutual way. I know people that would sit and read at Barnes and Nobles and not be force to buy something. For a place that sells product that educates and nourishes people's mind, it cares more about money that the future of the youth. read more
