I get my produce all your long here. I get my plants and flowers in the spring and summer. I get my Christmas trees here in the winter as well as Halloween hay corn stocks. Growers Outlet is one of those places that seems much bigger inside than it looks from the street. In addition to the expected produce selection, they have house branded jarred products and things like a surprisingly large variety of bagged egg noodles, or flavored corn nuts. Unlike supermarket checkouts designed to push impulse purchases, Growers Outlet has surprises in every corner. They don't sell meat, but we usually end up with multiple items that were not on our shopping list. There are a couple of times a year, when we want strawberries for canning, or a tree for Christmasing, when no place else will do. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there are many other Portlanders that have their own times of year when they simply have to come here. read more

Growers Outlet is my go-to spot for fresh produce in Portland. While prices are a bit higher than local grocery stores, the quality and freshness of the vegetables, many sourced from local farmers, make it worthwhile. They offer a wide variety of seasonal produce, including items on their own farm like green beans, tomatoes, and corn. The atmosphere is welcoming and the staff is feeling helpful. This is a store that I used to enjoy buying from, very mom and dad kind of place with no fancy floor or walls. I had an eye surgery and had to wear shades for a couple of weeks, happened that I wanted to buy some Mexican popsicles they sell there and I entered the store with my shades on, an Hispanic myself, (though American citizen) I went straight to the freezers right on the cashiers area, but standing right in front of the freezer was a lady with a baby, being playful and distracting themselves with some stuff over the freezer, so I have to be polite and waited aside for the lady to move, Somehow the cashier noticed that I was doing nothing, not moving, just standing there, beside the lady and in front of the cashier, when suddenly both ladies noticed my presence and turned a little nervous. The lady with the baby walked on, more in a protective way than on a courtesy mood and at the same time the cashier said to the lady "I'm sorry" insinuating that something was wrong because of me. I proceeded to fill my cart with popsicles and then directed myself with one step to pay the cashier. This lady cashier must be at least 18 years old, a "Nancy nice" kind of girl that is full of false courtesy phrases; out of nowhere she started "recommending" me a near Hispanic ice cream store that I knew about but pretended I did not know; she was telling me virtually to go buy there the next time instead of purchasing in her store. I faked gratefulness and left the place. This insulting and overly ignorant attitude of this idiot person and the one that was behind her listening, makes me angry yet not crazy, Of course I'm not coming back at all to this Grocer's Outlet and of course I'm going to tell everybody in my Hispanic congregation about these imbeciles who pretend to be nice and educated but don't have a scintilla of a brains at all, anyway, everything they sell is cheaper and cleaner in any modern orderly supermarket and is good to know who's civilized enough to trust and go leave my dollars. read more

I come here about every three or four months? It's kind of far from my home. It is so worth it though! Tons of fresh vegetables and fruit. Homemade breads. All kinds of grains and oats and pastas that are packaged in small or large. Unique items like a whole section of a bunch of hot sauces. They have a lot of beautiful flowers and plants. Also a dry section with imported tomatoes spices and other canned goods. Much more to list. The people that work here are so nice and helpful. In the fall they have an amazing array of different kinds of pumpkins. A very good place to bring your kids and get pictures of pumpkins, Haybale's and corn stocks :-) they have great holiday items here. If you're in the area it's well we're stopping in. read more

Me and my boyfriend shop here year around. Well, he shops and I observe. This is his produce market. He likes it because everything they sell is sourced locally and is fresher. I get that. I like buying local when it's convenient. But I'm a lazy shopper. I can't even be bothered to actually go into a grocery store. I buy everything online. This used to be a destination for us- a 15 minute drive seemed so far because we had an apartment on 60th Ave.($). We would go once or twice a month. Now we live about 5 minutes away. I love this place SOOO much! Flour, nuts, pasta, other dry goods. TONS of fresh produce! This is one of the only places where I can find rapini sometimes. (Keep stocking rapini, please!) They carry bread, dairy, and eggs, too. This store is surrounded by apartments for blocks. They take EBT. Lots of outdoor stuff, too - plants, veggie starts, seasonal things.... Still one of my favorite spots to get fresh produce and fruit and flowers and plants ! FYI- they are closed on Sunday's! In the spring/summer, their bouquet of flowers are truly beautiful and for the price, it beats all the flower shops around- seriously HUGE. Also the hanging flowers for Mothers Day is the place to be! Huge hanging flower pots for about $35 and my mom is always amazed when she gets one. They have really good selections on veggies and fruits and other spices and herbs and candy and fresh local buys- jams and hot sauces, etc. They have a nice outdoor area that they set up pretty much all through the year on flowers and trees, garden decor and other seasonal items. In the winter it's more closed down, but once spring through fall hits, it's busy busy busy! Always filled with great selection. The associates are nice and are willing to go look in the back if something is short. We do love their little pumpkin patch farm, after three years, we still come here for them! One of my favorite local grocery stores. I come here for reliably cheap mushrooms (local white buttons are usually only $2.19 per pound) and beautiful tomatoes (prices vary, currently 99 cents per pound of roma, more for larger varieties). They even carry heirloom tomatoes in all sorts of funky shapes and sizes. I also love coming here for nuts and local honey. I used to get the giant Costco boxes of cashews, but they always start to get stale by the time I finish them. Here, the prices are similar but the sizes are far more flexible. I can get fresher cashews and not worry about trying to finish them before they get stale. Spices too! Honestly it's just a great one-stop shop for most groceries, and while they do have some ethnic specialties, it's not really the best place to go if you're looking for obscure ingredients. The owner has decided to use their one wheelchair accessible parking spot to stow the shopping carts. This is completely unacceptable as well as illegal. I have shopped at this store for over twenty years. I go year round and have praised them to friends and sent people their way. I would buy my Christmas tree there and for others as well. But now... the last 3 months have been a repeated disappointment, every time I went there. I have been told that they don't carry certain things to find them on the shelves or worse I call them and am told they have what I need but when I got there I find out they hadn't had it in days. They have wasted my time repeatedly and either are ignorant of their produce or just plain lie to me. This place was local, well before you even had to make the decision to be local. It's been on that corner forever. I would not be surprised with all that produce there, that if you were able to lift the store up it would have roots growing underneath. Hmm... maybe that's why they call themselves "Growers" outlet. I've been going here forever off and on.. changes come and go.. food items come and go.. from Russian focused, to latino focused, to organic and local novelties. They've got a shrine dedicated just for all the many hot peppers you could ever hope to want. They've got lots of different jars of sauces and oils to douse your lovely veggies up with. They've got fresh herbs for every occasion. I went here specifically for some items I did not have in my cupboard to make me some tandoori salmon. And did this place come through - hells yes they did. I got me some fresh mint for my raita as well. They also have another shrine full of every kind of dried spice your heart could ever want. And oh ya, the veggies.. check on that.. organic, or, not organic, but still local.. or local and organic.. what have you.. Celery root? Check.. arugala.. check.. all among the more normal veggies you will find secret treasures. They got your fruit right here too.. Tons of different types of apples in yet another shrine for your particular fancy.. matsumi oranges.. probably not local but deliciously sweet.. Now we go over to the dried beans and rice and pasta section.. right over yonder.. I seriously don't know how they pack it all in to this place but they manage. I really think the only think that's missing in the old charm is wood floors with sawdust.. BUT, they don't let the past keep them back because, right in front of my eyes, was... Secret Aardvark habanero hot sauce.. For all of this the price is just right as well... they top those other elitey stores because you got your working class folk out this way and they could not have it any other way. read more

Because I have one of those social work jobs that means I am all over town on a typical work day, sometimes I can stop in here before or after a meeting and grab some fresh fruit or veg for dinner. They usually have fabulous corn and berries during those seasons,great winter squash about now, and they have a nice variety of other goods that I like to look at. (honey, nuts, pasta, jam, etc.). Love this place! It's a gem of a market very close to home. A vegan's dream! Great quality and variety of produce, great prices on nuts and grains (pepitas, almonds, lentils, split peas, etc.). Prices are often times equal to or higher then Fred Meyer, Safeway etc. Which is expected since they arent getting products at value from mass producers. Last time I went the produce was not very good looking and i had to pass on the sugar snap peas, apples, romaine lettuce etc because they were brownish and dried out (lettuce). The watermelon was on sale at Fred Meyer for .29/lb for herminstons, was .79/lb there or 1.19/sliced. I had to throw out their melon and cantaloupe because they were over ripe/old. The quality of produce is not on par for the price IMO. read more

I was really shocked one day when a lady in front of us was using her food supplement checks to pay for her produce, and the clerk was so rude to her, the lady didn't speak good English, and the clerk told her she couldn't get change back, very rudely. The lady had one more item that the checker could have told her that she had enough left over to add that to her order, paying only 40 cents more, but instead the lady had to pay the full amount for it. To top it off, while we were waiting in line, another checker opened up and instead of taking us, as we were next, she took the woman behind us that had only just gotten there, and we had been waiting for several minutes. I've since shopped here very little, if at all, where I used to buy most of my produce here, I've moved my business elsewhere. read more

This little produce store is nicely located on the corner of 162nd and Glisan. The people are either nice or just people. They sometimes greet me, sometimes smile, and help if needed. That's good enough for me. The produce is good majority of the time. Sometimes you'll find some berries or fruits that are at the end of their life, but hey it happens. Just pick a different one. Duh. The rest of their produce is great. Veggies, fruits, nuts. Awesome. read more
