One of my favorite book stores. These guys are huge and carry a variety of books, stationery, games, toys, gifts, CDs and many more. Everything in the store is neatly organized, the staff is super helpful. There is a cafe inside. There is some seating inside the store as well. I like that they keep changing some of their book displays to reflect the current trends. I have discovered many new books going inside the store. They often have some clearance section where you get some Pretty good deals. Highly recommend this bookstore! read more

Claire was amazing. They walked me to the two sections I was looking for, found a couple books for me to check out, and asked if I needed anything else. Customer service like this is a fading art form. I am happy that it is still practiced. There is another staff member in toys that was very knowledgeable. They were working the check in counter during last nights book event. Super knowledgeable and went above and beyond multiple times I came in. I let Andrew, the store manager know. Rating is for customer service. Stopped by to check out the criterion sale while my wife shopped for books. Went upstairs to use the restroom and the door is locked by a keypad. Went to the nearest worker who was straightening books and without making any eye contact or a greeting just blurts out the numbers to use. So he clearly saw me heading that way that instead of being helpful he was rude and made me come search him out. Made me feel that my patronage wasn't welcome. I love having a brick and mortar store around, but after this experience I bought the movies on Amazon who match the price. read more

If you are willing to pay $8.10 for a 4-shot double latte, then this is the place for you. I am happy that people read books more than they play video games. As an author myself of seven books, it is somewhat disheartening. It's a huge store and there two level with Starbucks Cafe inside this location. I came late in the evening, so it mostly empty. They closed down toward the back section for a special event. Enjoyed a beverage from the cafe before head out. read more

She's a younger gal and is so incredibly rude and condescending to the customers. She honestly should not be working at a book store and would be better suited to work in a women's or men's prison. I don't know why I haven't reviewed this Barnes and Noble before, but in a way, this location really stands out even more today, as I swung by for some last minute Christmas shopping. Barnes and Nobles are large for book stores by today's standards, and this location is huge - 2 floors! It's spacious, well-stocked, and well-staffed - if you need help, there is always someone nearby. The children's section is also great for gifts. And they have their cafe which is a sentimental favorite for me, as I used to spend hours at the cafe at the U village location back in the day. While I do my fair share of online shopping, I also enjoy the experience of stopping by a brick and mortar book store for the experience, and this location definitely has a lot to offer. read more

This review is just for their customer service - because as a dinosaur of retail, they have no redeeming value aside from needing to provide a welcoming, respectful environment to their customers; you can get better prices and selection elsewhere, with free shipping and no need to step foot outside your home, to boot. Unfortunately, asking for that little appears to be asking for too much in this case. Wanted to return a vinyl record that was purchased for me as a gift by someone I don't stay in touch with, but rather an acquaintance of my wife's. The record is still shrink wrapped in plastic, so never used and it was purchased just under 2 months ago. Still has the original tag sticker attached to it, but the receipt was for some reason cut in half by the buyer, evidently to hide the price, and I only have the bottom half which still has the purchase date and the full bar code. The clerk working the register was confused having scanned the bar code, and had to get her manager to help - since her real name doesn't matter for the purposes of this review or is available anyway, let's appropriately refer to her as Karen from now on. So the first thing Karen proceeds to tell me is that it's past the return/store credit date - which of course it's not, since gifts are returnable within 60 days for store credit. Having failed at turning me away in that manner, Karen continued insisting the receipt can't be used despite all the information from the purchase being coded to the bar code at the bottom. I repeatedly asked Karen to show me what the register terminal turned up after scanning it, only to be accused by her of being condescending, raising my voice (I never did), and to tell me to contact the buyer to see if he can provide me with the original purchase receipt (aka telling me to GTFO). Well, let's see - the record was clearly bought from your store, you have the bar code on it, you have the bar code on the receipt that proves the above, it's still unused and in brand new condition and sellable as is, I am not even asking for refund but would be okay with store credit, and I'm being told I'm out of line by the manager of a retail location of a non-competitive antiquated 20th century chain of mall-based discretionary goods business? I'm impressed, and the least I could do to pay homage to Karen's managerial acumen is to leave this review, as I promised her. read more

With the holidays wrapping up, I decided to venture to the Barnes and Noble located at Northgate Mall (12/31/17). Interesting that there's an elevated Seattle Police perch in the parking lot shared by Sanford's, the steak house and the B&N bookstore. Pretty busy with folks on both floors and cafe. Clearly it had been awhile since I wandered around, since the cookbooks were not on the second floor. But my attention was caught with the various toys and figures imported from Japan. So it became a series of photos and texts between me and The Homie due to Totoro, Pusheen, and Star Wars figures and models. Despite armed with a gift card since June and a 20% off coupon received awhile back in the mail, wandered through all the merch on both floors (books, music, movies, magazines, journals, cards, chocolates, etc), I end up buying a BanZai Star Wars Taikoyaku Stormtrooper figure ($84.95, less 20%, and a $40 gift card), the final cost was $34.82. Not bad! This Barnes and Noble location had items that condensed potential trips to the ID, Funko, Toys RUs, and ThinkGeek. Not Fred Meyer, but had aspects of 'one stop shopping'. I still prefer to shop at indie bookstores or get titles via the library, but this location is pretty decent if one is needing gift ideas. read more

Me and my 11 and 13yr old daughters were shopping 30min before closing at the Northgate location. The security guard bullied my daughters out of the store when I was checking without my knowing. They felt helpless and obligated to leave without me because of this guard's aggression. I am experiencing a ton of anger and frustration tonight because he treated them with disrespect and put them in a vulnerable and dangerous position at 11pm outside in freezing cold. Update: I went back tonight and gave the store manager an opportunity to connect with my daughters and hear their experience first hand. The manager was extremely concerned and apologetic for the unfortunate situation. She treated my girls to drinks and desserts. I connected with the security guard on duty tonight and he was the polar opposite. His name is Annakin and he really cares about his position as guard and troubled by how my kids were treated. Stop by he Northgate B&N and feel good about the spirit of the store- they care. This was a nice completion to an unfortunate experience. I do love Barnes and Nobel and appreciate how they care for the customer experience. read more

I love my B & N! From the first time I set foot in one of their stores to the last time I was here at this one, I have always been happy when I'm in here. Books bring joy to my life and they take up less room than clothes! Customer service at this location is top notch. One time I was here and was actually looking for gifts for my friends' twin toddlers. The sales associate pointed me to the kids section, which included accessories, toys, and even some perfunctory outerwear! I can easily spend an afternoon in this store just going from aisle to aisle - making lists of all the books I want to read! I've already pre-ordered the next installments of Twilight (from Edward's perspective) and The Hunger Games (Prequel) coming out soon in May! Hooray for books - and hooray for B & N! May they continue to soldier on for many years to come! read more

What's not to love about a giant book store that has no problem with you spending 5 min there or 5 hours, in one of their comfortable chairs, perusing books on any and every subject you can even imagine!? When I walked into Barnes and Noble I felt like I was officially in relaxation mode - great jazz music, the smell of coffee and ENDLESS possibilities - the freedom to explore any subject and read about any topic and acquire some new knowledge or get motivated is pretty damn exciting.. Anyway, this store is packed with books, music, movies, toys, board games, stationary/writing supplies and a ton of other things --- I know it's not cheap to keep the lights on at one of these places or to pay for the giant building that houses Barnes and Noble, but I'm sure as hell appreciative and absolutely love this place. I know that shopping on amazon is probably easier and more convenient but give Barnes and Noble a crack at your business - you can have the book right away and really enjoy yourself in the process! read more

This store is HUGE! A lot of books is always great! Met a BFF here and we browsed for hours. I asked for help looking for a particular children's book, and the employee knew right where it was and walked me over to it. Found a stash of books on sale and bought a new paperback on travel for $2. We oogled over the music magazines, and no one hassled us about it or told us to buy something vs. standing there reading them all like teenagers. I have been to this location a few times but this is my first review. A B&N is a B&N, the reason I like this one is mainly due to the lighting, it is the only store I have been in with this much lighting!! Really!!! I felt the main purpose of the staff was selling those Nooks that seem to take the center stage. Honestly I couldn't find staff anywhere else in that whole store. What is up with the guys in suits standing by the door? This location has the largest selection of foreign language books I have found in the area B&N's. As always, I price compare with amazon when I shop here. Then again I just enjoy going to the book store. read more

My fiancee and were at this location June 9th, and received the worst service we'd ever gotten. We had just arrived, and I had put a few books on a table, then walked off to go get my fiancee, to tell her I'd found a place for us to sit When I returned I was told that the tables were for more than one person, I mentioned that my fiancee was right behind me, and was then told that we needed to buy a drink from the cafe to sit there. which would have been fine, except for the fact that, as I previously stated, we'd just arrived. As she walks off, my fiancee made a comment about how they've been cracking down on people sitting at the tables lately, and how she saw them throw one guy out. I said that it was bullshit, and if I were thrown out, I'd never come back to the store. After I said this, we started to settle in, and as I was about to ask what my fiancee wanted to drink, the woman at the table in front of us turns, and introduces herself as the store manager, Rustie. She said she was interviewing, and that she didn't want my fiancee talking about how they were cracking down, and that my comment was inappropriate, and that we were creating a hostile work environment, then proceeded to tell us that we brought this on ourselves by 'acting suspicious', which I assume means grabbing some books and a table to sit at, to sip coffee while we browse and decide. She continued to berate us, at which point I stood, and said we're leaving before there's a scene. She said something along the lines of 'we don't want you in here anyway'. I've sent an email off to their customer service address, but a week without a response isn't cool. We've been pretty loyal B&N customers for a while now, but after this, I really have a hard time seeing us going back. read more

At the time of this review, the store is being "rearranged", with books being relocated leaving whole huge shelving units barren. Hmmmmm. This is usually not a good sign. I did find the book I needed and was cheerfully helped. All good so far. But alas, here is where the suck-factor deducts two stars: I asked if they had a restroom and was told with a slight snicker "not for customers" Gee thanks. Us customers can be so annoying. Also, I hate getting badgered at checkout to join their idiotic club, that costs $25 in order to qualify for discounts. When I refuse to join their "club" I get a slight scoff or a math lesson on how much I would "save". (presumably if I was only smart enough to spend $25 on their annual membership) Besides, I am already in their "club", its called "being their customer". What they call a club, I call an "annoying marketing vehicle". Reality is, I will only shop here if I need a quick book for a plane flight Otherwise, I shop Amazon because I'm part of a super cool club called the "internet". read more

This Barnes and Noble is attached to the Northgate mall, with no indoor connection between the bookstore and the mall. The bookstore itself is two stories. There's a coffee shop inside the first floor, and a large upstairs area as well. I went with my two young boys, age 2 and four, so we went in and made a beeline for the kids area, which is upstairs immediately at the top of the escalator. There is a wooden table with a train set, a stage where I'm sure they do story time, and a few small tables were kids can sit down and read books. Overall a wonderful place to take kids and provide access to books. read more

These days when you enter the Barnes and Noble, you are greeted by a towering giant-sized Nook. It's as if they made a cardboard Colossus of Rhodes and placed it just inside the doorway: a digital talisman to ward off Steve Jobs and the iPad. Beyond The Nook are actual books with paper pages and covers. A number of them, actually. This B & N seems to be a little smaller than the U-District location, but typically has most of the things that I'm looking for if I'm stuck at Northgate. Beyond the regular books, they have some DVDs and a smallish magazine section here. Prices are fair, but often I can find what I'm looking for cheaper on Amazon. As with most chain bookstores today, they have a small cafe. I've actually only gotten something here once (a giant cupcake, total impulse buy) but didn't have a bad experience with it. Parking here can be a little bit of a challenge, but consider it a degree of difficulty less than parking at the U-Village location. read more

Yes I am giving them 2 stars. I've tried to find books, and mind you they're not the hard to find ones. This location simply doesn't carry what I want. The layout is like any other B&N, but why does it feel different? It seems a lot smaller too. The staff are ok, some don't care, and some are really helpful. I was clearly looking for something and was trying to flag someone down, but I had a staff member ignore me and went on their merry way. Rude! And why is there a bathroom only on the 2nd floor? I like starbucks coffee. I especially like going to Starbucks at Northgate Barnes and Noble because it's quiet and clean. Very peaceful. I like their hot mochas and Ice mochas. During Christmas time to have Peppermint candy mocha,Ginger Bread latte and Egg Nog latte. During fall I like to have pumpkin spice latte Ice or hot especially. People may still read books but does anyone still buy books in paper form and in the store anymore? I will say this if you are looking for a place to go study or work it is great because it is always pretty quiet. The cafe (Starbucks coffee with more food than Starbucks) has a great selection of food, drinks and pastries. There still are books if you decide that you want to browse around and buy those (for those non-Amazon people), and the entire center of teh first floor is dedicated to the Nook eReader. So from a customer perspective this is great. Now from a business perspective I don't know how great it is to have a store where everyone comes to a giant two floor store to buy things from the cafe and read magazines for free. So I will end this review by saying Enjoy It While it Lasts. I think Barnes and Noble is going the way of the VCR. read more

Lacking staff, always a line at the front. I had enough time to scan each item into Amazon and see the price online was lower. I added each item into my cart while staring at the one cashier... I ended up putting buying most of the stuff online and walked out with one thing. They need to step it up. You have 6-7 registers, employees randomly hanging out ignoring customers (never once did anyone check on me or even say hi). Sad this place used to be amazing with their service. :( read more

I love coming here, the staff is great. Celeste is the best associate I've met there, she's wonderful and really helped with what i was looking for and didn't just brush me off. Really organized and the café staff is usually really nice, some guys that aren't the nicest, but good service overall.
