The help desk is captained by Alexis. She runs this ship with true efficiency and knowledge. I, being like most customers, know the titles but don't always remember the author's first and last names. In true clockwork fashion, she was able to find two of the three books I was on the hunt for. Spoilers darling... Kindred by Octavia E Butler The Five by Hailee Rubenhold The Possession of Alba Diaz by Isabel Cañas My tastes are all over the place but she found them all We chatted about True Crime in regards to The Five, the story of the women murdered by Jack the Ripper She told me she was an environmental studies student and I shared a recommended book by a friend, The Lost City of Z by Daniel Grann Alexis also my cashier and really made this visit exceptional. I visited the Barnes & Noble in Tukwila and had a great time browsing. Unfortunately this location doesn't have a café, which was a little disappointing since that's usually part of the Barnes & Noble experience. That said, the store itself is spacious, well organized, and they have an excellent LEGO selection along with lots of toys and gifts. Definitely a fun place to wander if you like books, games, or collectibles. Nice and welcoming employees. If the café were there, it would easily be a 5-star stop! read more

This location is the closest to my house so it's the most convenient l, but after checking out another location, I realized how this location does not have as huge and as diverse a collection as the other locations. Overall, the service here is always good. The employees are always willing to help and answer questions. I think the prices are pretty reasonable. I have a premium membership and I get a discount for most items. It's worth it if you tend to buy quite a bit of books. read more

So of course I've been by here more than once. It's close to me. But it might tell you something that I can't even remember what it looks like inside and I've definitely been in here more than 10 times. I don't know that I've ever bought anything here. It's just hard for me to buy here when I know there are SO MANY places to get a book for a lesser price. These days it just seems important to support local bookstores and local bookstores have so much more charm. That said, it IS nice to go into a B&N where you always know what to expect (like I can imagine exactly what it looks like even though I can't remember). I enjoy browsing their reduced items, and their stacks of whatever they call those "reference" books that are priced lower than everything else. I think one of their main attractions is the stationary section. It's always charming (and overpriced). To comment on the area for those that might want to stop by this location, you won't find anything amiss. It's a gigantic parking lot with other retail nearby (including wine, ahem). Came in here to get out of the rain. On our way to the mall and saw this store and my husband suggested going in. Good thing we did, they have two authors signing books which is great and right up my alley. Walking around was nice and calming and it reminded me of what I loved so much about B&N when they first opened. Their book game is fire! I didn't buy any books because I was on vacation and I also like to go to independent bookstores. But, when I need a book that they don't have, I'll swing by a B&N.. I appreciate the thoroughness of their selection and they are open quite late, which is a bonus. We spent three hours lazing around this store and I'm glad we did. Excellent selection, but the shopping experience came with an unexpected performance. I was blatantly followed around the store, along with other people of color, by a woman peeking over shelves instead of offering actual customer service. She didn't ask if I needed help finding anything, she just hovered and lurked, apparently assuming I wouldn't notice a grown adult spying from behind bookshelves, headset on, playing pretend cops and robbers. Truly an impressive display of implicit bias. Might I suggest picking up one of the many books on implicit bias conveniently stocked throughout this Barnes & Noble? A little light reading could go a long way. I paid for my books and left. For the past four years, I've been a regular customer at this Barnes & Noble location and have always had positive interactions with the staff--until my most recent visit. While searching for fashion books, I politely asked an employee at the service desk for assistance in locating the section. After being directed, I began browsing, only to notice the same employee standing nearby, pretending to read a book while clearly watching me. When I made eye contact, she abruptly stopped and walked away. As a Black African man, this experience left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. Unfortunately, after speaking with others and reading similar reviews, it seems this isn't an isolated incident at the Tukwila store. Customer service should be respectful and professional, and I hope management addresses this behavior to ensure all patrons feel valued. read more

We were leaving a doctor appointment and Decided to stop I and WOW Me and my husband and my two boys age 2,6 went So much to look at magazine ( we got something to eat at Starbucks :) Then went upstairs to the kids area ( why why put the kids area upstairs that was the one thing that made me very uncomfortable was the escalator and my two year old who is very adventurous lol But other than that we look at toms of books and puppets ( they have this shark head and my two year old son was pretending to bite EVERYTHING even his face it made me laugh SO SO sO hard I almost pee myself lol So we had to get two for stocking stuffers My 6. I haven't been inside this Barnes and Noble in months and was a bit caught off guard when I entered. First thing I noticed was that they rearranged the aisles. Before the store was setup like every other bookstore with that standard library feel. This time they arranged the shelving to be more like a maze or at the very minimum a concentrated effort to direct people. It made orderly purpose more conducive but meandering was pretty much eliminated. The joint entrance between Game Stop and Barnes and Noble is blocked currently. I am not sure if that is to keep crowd control or limit the number of people? But neither store was counting customers so bit baffled by this. They have a lot of books and everyone was polite. It was a nice outing here. I would recommend checking their inventory on-line if you have a specific book you want since that is basically what the customer service desk does. Not 24 hours before visiting the megachain Barns & Noble, I was visiting one of my most favorite bookstores in the world. The fave is located on an island, and it's a hub of activity with a small coffee shop and an owner who will chat you up. So the contrast was odd when I rolled up to this mall-adjacent megastore. You wouldn't be able to tell it from the one near my house, but this was over 900 miles away, and almost the same layout inside. But here's where they shine: I was on an incredible tight schedule trying to coordinate a flight pickup from the airport, and I needed a specific title. So I searched online, found this location, saw that they had in stock, and plugged it into the GPS. Then when I arrived, I simply went to the counter and had them show me where it is. I could have even paid ahead of time and opted to pick it up with it waiting there for me. That's pretty convenient, and while it lacks the heart and soul of my favorite island bookstore destination, it certainly was a quick way to buy a book in a hurry. read more

Had time to stop and wanted to look for some new books. I had to ask where the Mystery section was. They moved it again! Plus, they have a habit of having displays in a U pattern, meaning you have to walk all the way through this area. Who does that? I am disabled and walking all over the store to find the right section is so aggravating. Needless to say, I left not buying any books I was looking for. Yes, the employees were nice, but hey, why not get out of the "customer service box" and walk around and help customers. Guess I will order on Amazon and not bother with the store anymore. Awesome magazine selection at B&N. LOVE IT. I can get my artsy zines here that I can't find anywhere else along with European fashion finds. This location has a Starbucks to the right and an open connection to a Game Stop. Not a fan of this big box's membership card. It costs money! Make it free, like the rest of the known world. Costco charges for a reason and makes it worth the while. Coming to B&N 1-3 times a year doesn't make it worth the cost for me, but maybe if your membership was free, I'd show up more often. This B&N is in the Southcenter neighborhood, kitty corner to the Westfield Mall, across the street from Bed, Bath & Beyond. The bathrooms are well hidden. From the front entrance, look for the kids section in the far right hand corner. Then, not quite into the corner on the north wall, the restrooms will be found. They are really small and there are no signs for the restrooms so I had to ask a couple people where they are. Huge private parking lot. read more

I love coming to Barnes & Noble to browse. Fairly large, clean, nicely lit store with an easy to navigate layout. As others have stated, the prices can be a bit high. If you're one of those people who physically buys books I would recommend checking out one of the many online book retailers on the Internet. The front area of the store is constantly rotating with different themes so it can be a great place to get some inspiration going. There's also a huge section of clearance racks, several of which are legitimately good deals. Over the years they are starting to sell more and more toys and trinkets, drones included! I'm old school, Amazon is great and all but I still prefer to drive to the book store, wonder around looking at all of the different book titles and read a few sentences of the books I pick up to see if they intrest me. Barnes and Noble is a quality bookstore and this is a very good store in their chain. I was in search of a few books that I feared would be out of print but they had two of the three that I wanted, one was in hardcover and one in paperback, I love hardcover books. The store is clean, well lit, and there are plenty of places where you can sit down and read for a few minutes if you are inclined to do so. I'm not really a reader, which is kind of funny considering how many times I have found myself perusing through the shelves at Barnes and Noble. It has this welcoming atmosphere, plenty of space to read and a helpful Customer Service Kiosk. Cuddle up to the carpet in the travel section. Crouch down to the mini tables in the Children's section. Quibble about physicists in the Physics and Astronomy section. You can have it all! I went in and asked where the Boxcar Children were for my niece and was taken directly to them. Then I came back to Customer Service and started asking about the author of the book that I had read recently with lots of art on the pages about Marie Currie and Pierre Currie. I like this location because I can usually find exactly what I am looking for very quickly. Huge store, lots of product. There is also a Starbucks and a Gamestop attached. Keep an eye out for the clearance sections you can find some pretty good deals on books, kids play-sets and toys/games. Good magazine selection inside the front door as well. Usually I am here to look for comics or books related to the TV shows I watch. Not too many places to sit and read, you'd figure there would be more. The only thing I dislike is the customer service; they can be rather rude, and also please don't follow me around the aisles like I am going to steal something. I'm sad that Borders went bankrupt, like so so sad. I guess the closest thing left is Barnes and Noble. Is it too dorky of me to admit that the bookstore is one of my favorite place to spend my time in? The library is fine, but a lot of the time, I won't get to go home with that book that I'm looking for there because it's checked out. I'm just intrigue at how many different genres and sub-genres there is here. You can find me in the Manga section trying to finish reading the whole series during my visit so I don't have to spend $10 on each picture book or the business section to do research on how to be an entrepreneur. There's many, many interesting sections like adult erotica and a massive section on the one and only, cooking because food is life right? This Barnes and Noble is across the mall which is kind of nice that it's easy to get to, but not in the mall with all the noisy traffic. It's connected to a Gamestop and Starbucks so you can sip on coffee and read at the same time, how brilliant! But if your book isn't interesting enough to keep you awake without coffee, you need to find another one. This is heaven for the nerds like myself that find reading almost as satisfying as intimacy. i really have a love hate relationship with B&N... but it's not necessarily the company at fault - it's simply my own dilemma of being torn between old school and new age technology. it's so much easier to buy an E-Book at a click of a button now a days on just about any device that can connect to the internet. Just as easy and probably more cost efficient to order one via online (new or used). This retail giant of Barnes & Noble caused so many mom and pop book stores to close up shop so wouldn't it be following the "food chain" to let online retailers kill off one of the last brick and mortar book stores left? before you get the pitch forks out and scream "kill the beast!" let me remind you... that's exactly what happened to video stores... remember Blockbuster? Hollywood Video? I do... half the fun was spending hours after school in there trying to find the perfect movie to pair with some popcorn, soda, and good friends. Barnes & Noble is my nostalgia... i love it because i enjoy flipping through pages and deciding if this is going to be my next read. i love bringing my daughter there, especially now that all major toy retailers have shut their final doors, so B&N gives me the opportunity to shop like a human should, touch books, see books, read books, and go pay for it with human interaction. I loathe it because of having to drive there - in a way search the isles for what i'm looking for... paying the price tag of $20+ for a book now a days knowing in the back of my mind the e-version is only $1.99. And yet i find myself here once a month - paying the premium but enjoy the moments before everything turns into apartment complexes and no one talks to anyone else any more - or lets one another borrows books because everything is on a tablet - or no one leaves their home because they can just click a button online and have things sent to their homes. and for that Barnes & Noble... i thank you for being there. read more

I have always loved Barnes & Noble's and feel that it is such a great source for finding books. It is attached to a game stop and a Starbucks, which is very nice. They need to add a lot more seats for people to sit and relax and be more comfortable. One of the few things that I don't like about this place, is how pushy they can be about not having the reward card. It is worth it if you buy a lot of books. But if you don't it's just a waste of money, which I work too hard for. They need to realize that not everybody wants a reward card. I love Barnes & Noble's selections and their clearances. I love how they have a old stories being printed new but looking like older books. Also their section for learning many things is amazing! You can buy a ukulele, sushi maker, Pizza maker, and it all shows you how to do it the best way. If the employees had a better attitude I would rate it a five star. read more

It's close to my damn periodontist, so I come here either to steel myself before, or as a reward after I get my gums tortured. It's kind of out of the way of the rest of the Southcenter Insanity, which means it's relatively easy to get to and park at. Relatively. For a Barnes & Noble, this store is pretty small; but there's a Starbucks and plenty of comfy chairs. The small size means the staff has to multi-task and it's not always real easy to find specific items. All in all, though, it's not a terrible place to kill some time. read more

I like that this area only has one way in and out makes it harder for your child to escape! Along with books they also have toys that go with the books! As well as just some fun learning toys! I have to confess myself a bit disappointed in B&N as far as their sales/online sales go. I had ordered something to be shipped to the store, as it was on sale when I looked it up online. I ALMOST bought it online, but decided it'd be safer to have to send it to the store instead. When I go to pick it up, it's more expensive than it was online. Now, nowhere did it say that the sale price I saw was an 'online only' price, or that this price did not reflect ship-to-store or in-store pricing. Through every step, nothing online said it was online-only. So no, I am not a fan of misleading prices and will not be returning. read more

Very rude staff. I stopped there often because I like to browse and occasionally purchase. Due to a disability I typically stop in the restroom before I start looking around. The last time I went there I was literally cornered as I walked out of the bathroom and asked what I was doing in the store. She then rudely told me where the clearance items were located, again I had just walked in and left the restroom and had not asked any questions and had no plan to leave without looking for some cards. I hate all barnes and nobles stores....can you tell i'm a bitter Borders customer? lol. Their books are so overpriced and they never have coupons unless you buy their rewards program, so you're really better off buying books from amazon. But this location isn't too bad, its small and doesn't always have a huge selection. I do walk in for magazines and they've always got those so no complaints. I do however think the annoying people at the Nook station need to be pushed back like 30 more feet from the door. A starbucks is connected as is a game stop, so i guess you have options to walk to if you don't want to look at books anymore. read more
