I know airport shops are expensive, but this experience made it worse. I used the self-checkout and the barcode and QR code on my drink were too close together. The machine scanned the QR code first, glitched, and called for assistance. The attendant was rude, stayed on her phone while helping me, and acted annoyed. I was told I needed to cover the QR code with my hand while scanning -- something that should really be explained or fixed by the store. Poor customer service and a frustrating checkout process. I've never been a souvenir person, but I buy a lot of cheap magnets now that I have kids. I stopped by the Hudson News in Terminal D on our way out of Seattle and picked up an assortment of goodies for the boys. I've been to plenty of Hudson News locations over the years, and there's nothing special about this one except that it sells Seattle and Washington-themed souvenirs because it's in Seattle, Washington. There was a solid assortment of knick knacks and apparel, in addition to whatever snacks, books, and travel accessories you might expect to find at an airport shop. There were a couple stands of magnets, keychains, pens, and the like, with a buy-3-get-1-free deal on the magnets and keychains. This was a little confusing, and I overheard another customer arguing with the sales clerk about how many items she had to buy to get the freebie. I didn't hear the outcome, but the answer was three, with the fourth free. The deal also only applied to magnets and keychains and not the pens on the same rack. I learned all this when I checked out with my two magnets and one pen. I decided I didn't need any more Space Needle magnets than I already had in hand. I did also buy a larger decorative Space Needle souvenir, one of those shakeable plastic dealies with water and colorful confetti inside. I may not love souvenir junk, but this was a fun family trip, and I wanted my kids to take home a few tangible mementos. It was easy to get these at Hudson News. read more

Hudson nonstop seatac concourse C2 Location. I just watched at May 11 3pm an elderly person try to buy some chips and not understand how to use the equipment. Confused the lady asked for help. The sales person totally ignored the lady till I got her attention. Then didn't even explain how the tech worked completely. just saying it would charge 10$. Not explaining it was all monitored and she would get money back. She never mentioned how to pay either. Pissing off the lady and me. I have experience Hudson's inactive staff before but this was the worst I have seen. Only twice have I had a nice interaction with their employee and that was at George Washington airport in Texas as their hospitality is always wonderful. read more

The roommate gets a magnet every time we go on vacation. We never found one in Seattle while souvenir shopping, so we dropped by Hudson News on the way to our gate. It was Wednesday, January 20th, a little after 4pm. They have a decent selection of magnets. We ended up getting a Seattle Sunset 3D magnet for $2.99. I also picked up a few magazines: Entertainment Weekly ($4.99) & Nylon ($4.99) and a bottle of Dasani water ($2.59 for 1 liter) for the plane. Cashiers were nice. We were rung up fast. Listen to your customers! We went to buy food before our flight. The cashier accidentally charged us twice for one item. Not a big deal, we went back, and she said she could issue a refund via her manager. She called up her manager and this is where we started to run into problems. She arrived looking obviously angry before even speaking to us. She proceeds to rip the items out of hands and the receipt. And says ok, I've given you a refund, now go. We try to explain that it was just one item that was charged twice it we still want to keep the rest. This concept. Only infuriated her more as she proceeded to say no, you didn't pay so you don't get to keep the items. It took a good 5 minutes of showing her the receipts that the refund was for the one item and not the entire purchase and she had indeed only refunded that since item. While I've never had this experience before, I would definitely avoid the chain from here forward. Luckily SeaTac has plenty of other great options with much nicer staff read more

This Hudson News, located in the C terminal of the Seattle Airport, does sell books, magazines, and newspapers, but it also sells so much more. i wandered in here with time to kill before a flight home to LAX and walked out with a little bag full of goodies. If you're looking for souvenirs to bring home for friends to let them know that you were thinking of them while you were away this is a great place to stop in and browse. Never mind the fact you totally forgot about buying them anything while you were actuallly in the city - shhhh!!! They carry a variety of t-shirts, hats, glasses, and all kinds of little knick knacks that say Seattle all over them. They also sell sunglasses, hats, ties, socks, all kinds of clothing and accessory items without the word Seattle on them so if you've forgotten to pack something for your trip, you may be able to pick up something last minute here. The sunglasses were actually pretty cheap at 2/$25 and there was a pretty good selection of them. I made a visit up and down the candy aisles. Yes, there were candies and snacks in more than one area of the store and I picked up a few goodies to keep me going on the plane. There were candy bars and single serving bags of candies on all sides around the cash register fixture. There was also an entire snack corner filled from floor to ceiling with chips and many different types of bagged candy. There was a large wall section devoted to magazines designed to appeal to many different types of travelers. There was a technology section where they carried not only headphones and chargers but all types of electronic devices and accessories. There was an entire wall of them. There was even a small section with over the counter medications and toiletry items for those in need of them. All of these items were on one side of the store, but there was a small passagelike hallway at the back lined with books that led to the other side of the store which was a bibliophile's dream. This was a full on bookstore, not just a book section in a gift store like I usually see in airports. I'd already brought a book to read on the plane, but I lost myself for about half an hour browsing and discovered a number of books I'd like to read soon. This Hudson News is larger and carries a much more diverse selection of merchandise than I usually see in airports. I'm definitely a fan. read more

No Pepsi. Dam. SITREP To survive the night at SeaTac, I like to have my favorite soda of choice. Pepsi One is that item. But most retail shops - especially in SeaTac airport - do not have Pepsi products, let alone Pepsi One. THE SETUP However, in this instance, Hudson News does throw me a bone in that they do have Coke Zero, which is far better than Diet Coke or Diet Pepsi. So for that, I'm grateful. They were open late when we arrived at almost midnight and open early when we left at 6am. They have smoked salmon in boxes, Seattle magnets, tons of magazines for the plane to keep you occupied and I even spotted some Hawaiian Host chocolates. It's always nice to see when there's a touch of Hawaii in the mainland. There's also the cheesy stuff like a Sleepless in Seattle sleeping shirt. Generally, airport bookstores are pretty sad...a wall of magazines, a rack of business books and tons of paperbacks that appeal to the lowest common denominator (aka 10 million copies of 50 Shades of Gray or Marley and Me or whatever drivel is popular). This bookstore has all of that, but goes above and beyond by adding in a fairly robust travel section (surprising how few airport stock this!) full of Lonely Planet guides. There's also a pretty decent selection of general non fiction, and a whole section of classics. That's right...Jane Austin, Charles Dickens and an unabridged copy of Dumas' Count of Monte Cristo at about 1400 pages. Color me impressed. Look - you're going to be in the air for a good long while. Is that Cosmo or People magazine really going to cut it? This bookstore offers some great alternatives to the norm, and yes they do have your 50 Shades (if you must). read more

These are at every airport and hard to stand out. They are a great place to go if you're looking for a snack (chips, candy, soda, Gatorade, water, nuts, etc). Be prepared to pay ballpark/concert prices for these items (not quite, but you get the idea). They have a good selection of last minute souvenirs in case you're looking for a pen, keychain or stuffed animal. They also have a good selection of the most current pro/college local sports team for you to grab for the fan at home. On 12/30/2019 at 8:48 AM Seattle, Store # 01498 REG: 004 Cashier: Amran. Customer service/kindness training would not go amiss at Hudson Group. While stopping to grab water, fruit and a sandwich, my husband approched Ms. Amran's register to ask where the water was, and she briskly said, "over in the cooler," with a exasperated tone. Ignoring that, we then whet to check out. As she was helping a man with his 4 bottles of waters, he had to ask for a bag, which she handed to him without saying anything, but did it as if she was mad. He took the bag and had to do it himself. We looked at each other not sure what was going on. Then it was our turn. As she started to ring us up, she told me she could not touch that box (pointing to my boxed sandwich.) Pausing to understand what was going on, I asked her, "You can't touch my box?" She said, "no." There was no use of polite words; no please, thank you, or even hello. After I scanned my own item, I paid, and then I too had to ask for a bag for my items. This seemed to really make her mad. As I turned away she said, "Why you look at me with ugly eyes?" Turing back, I said, "What?" She said, while helping the next customer, "You look rude." I turned the the other cashier lady and asked if she was the manager? She said no. I asked if there was a manager. She again said no. I had to ask keep asking her for assistance because she just stood there not being helpful at all. I walked over to Ms. Amran and took a picture of her name tag, which she proudly held up high for me to see, once she saw what I was doing. This whole exchange was done in front of many customers, and I assume security cameras can verify the whole exchange. This is the Hudson in the C Terminal. By far the best magazine selection at seatac. I travel a lot. This might have the best mag selection of any airport. From soldier of fortune to The Nation to Real Simple to New Jersey Bride to Hustler, its got most mainstream niches covered. And unlike most things at the airport, there is no additional mark-up on mags. read more

Poor service, I asked the person who was checking inventory if they had any dried fruits she said around there. The stuff she pointed to was fruit snacks far from dry fruits. I figured she was busy and I continued to look with my friend. Then we decided to ask again since we walked around and thought maybe we are just missing it. You know it could be right under our nose and we don't realize it. This time when we asked she was not kind and face a little huff attitude. She told her there and there. I said we don't see it. She just ignore us after and continued with her inventory on the step ladder. I tried to see her name but couldn't so I took a picture of this no customer service person. EXPIRED DRAMAMINE. Three months past its expiration date. Last Thursday, November 1, my husband and I were at the N gate Hudson news store to purchase Dramamine. Trusting the store, we did not look at the expiration date until our return flight home and we found out that it expired 3 months ago. If you buy any type of drug, cold medicine, etc., make sure you double check the expiration date. Not a happy camper especially since we paid almost double what we would've paid in the store. read more

I am a fan of Hudson News and having spent a lot of my life in NYC where Hudson News are based out of - think the Hudson River in NY, I was happy to find a Hudson News in Seattle! I finally was able to purchase a hoodie with Seattle emblazoned on it which I was unable to find at Pike Place Market- lol, so I was really thrilled! I wish that this shop had a mirror for when you're trying on their clothes over your clothes, but the hoodie fits, is comfortable and cute! I do wish they had zip front hoodies too instead of just pullover. That being said- my mission was accomplished to have a nice souvenir of my cross country journey to Seattle! Hudson News is great for local souvenirs- postcards, keychains- things to bring with you on your journey home like a magazine, book, cold bottled water or other beverages, snacks like candy, snack mix, chips, pretzels, etc. I do wish that the sales associates were a little bit more friendly but some of them were quite helpful and did a good job.
