I came here for a tennis tournament. The tennis center has a shop, snack bar, and pickleball courts. The facility is very nice. The courts are clean and well maintained. I've noticed the tennis courts toward the left near the pickleball courts, can get a little loud or noisy. You can hear the traffic and pickleball going on. Just a little distracting. But other than that, this place is great for tennis.

Came here for the 2026 Open Championship. This center is huge, with both tennis courts and pickleball courts. Parking is available on site, but it was full, so we parked about a 10 minute walk away, not a big deal. I came here a few years ago for the 2023 Open Championship, and it felt like a bigger scale event with a larger crowd. They also had more food and drink vendors back then compared to this year. It's always a nice place to spend the day watching matches, and if your seats are high enough, you can even catch a distant water view.

The Barnes Tennis Center is an amazing facility. Parking was close to the entrance and ticketing center was fast and efficient. We came to watch the National Pickleball Championship! The week long competition hosted hundreds of participants and the event went on without a hitch! The courts were in great condition, the facilities were immaculate, and the concession areas offered a wide variety of eating/drinking options. The merchandise areas were also well organized and spaced around the facility. We will definitely come back to this venue just to play and enjoy the facility.

WHY I CAME HERE? For the first time ever, Major League Pickleball (MLP) was held at San Diego for the 2025 Toray MLP Playoffs on August 15-17 at the Barnes Tennis Center. Both my daughters and I attended the last day of this playoff on Sunday, 08/17/2025. It was our first time being spectators at a MLP. We got ground passes that allowed us access to the tournament venue and matches outside of the Center Court and Grandstand. We got to watch some amazing pickbleball matches even though we didn't have courtside seating. We got some free stuff from various vendors who were here to promote their products and services. Thank you! CENTER: Beautiful and clean tennis center with both tennis courts and pickleball courts. They have a concession area with benches. Their pro shop had lots of good merchandise and equipments. Restrooms are available, but for a large center like this one, there should have been more stalls in the women's restroom IMHO. STAFF / SERVICE: I didn't encounter too many staff members at this center except for the gentleman at the pro shop. He was nice and helpful. I ended up buying some emoji/other tennis racket vibration dampener. I don't play tennis anymore, but I just couldn't help myself LOL. Just too cute! PARKING: Parking is available on-site, but the overflow parking for this event was at Liberty Station. We had to park at the latter due to full capacity at the former. We were shuttled over within less than 10 minutes one way. No long lines for both to and from this tennis center. Thank you! RECOMMEND THIS PLACE? Great center for tennis and pickleball play. Love to return for future pickleball events. Fyi, Columbus Sliders are the 2025 MLP champions! YAY!

My mom recently had her USA Senior Pickleball Nationals tournament at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, and the pickleball courts here were abundant (I think close to 50 of them) and very well maintained! The pro shop had some cool items including apparel and even a selection of your typical popular grocery store pre-packaged ice creams. The facility itself was quite spacious, the landscaping was very well done, and they also have tennis courts in addition to all of the pickleball courts. There are a lot of hotels within a 15 minute drive from the Barnes Tennis Center, so very convenient for events like this, and many others... a great destination when visiting San Diego!!

Came here for my husband's nationals tennis tournament. They have 22 tennis courts plus some pickleball courts and padel courts. The tennis complex is very big and had benches and chairs between the tennis courts. Although with a big tournament going on there weren't enough seats available. It would be nice to have extra foldable chairs that they can rent for the weekend or during the tournaments because you 17 tennis teams competing, not including spectators. Not sure how often they have tennis tournaments at this location. Overall it's a very nice and will kept complex. Great place for tennis. Restrooms were a little small with only 4 stalls for the women.

We came for a late night pickleball session, and stumbled upon them setting up for a tennis tournament. They decorated really nicely for great photo opportunities. The courts were spotless and clean! They also sell snacks, racks, and other essentials you need when playing pickleball or tennis!

Visiting Barnes for second time, this place is just amazing. Great tennis courts and nice to see all tennis people around. Lessons, drills, practices and matches all around. They got some clay courts and pickle ball courts too. The parking lot could get tought during huge tournaments but they have extended gravel parking lot too. The pro shop is great and staff is very friendly!!

After my first time at Barnes the other week, I am a fan of their pickleball open play! I went on a Wednesday afternoon (1:30-4pm) to check it out and had a very good experience. Starting at the pro shop, you pay $5 for open play then are directed to head back to the pickleball courts. I do wish they had a little more signage directing you to the pickleball courts since you need to walk past quite a few tennis courts to get there. I also didn't realize there were 3 different areas, two of them were for reservations (I think) and the open play area was in the larger section. The layout was great, with a grassy area in the middle with seating/shade with the courts on either side. I was told that the afternoon session is usually not too busy but the mornings are pretty packed. I personally like when it's not too busy but still able to get in a lot of gameplay which was the situation on this day. It's a great set up with one rack where everyone lined up their paddles and a moderator that made sure people were having fun and matched up well. The crowd was very social and friendly, with lots of good sportsmanship. I will definitely be returning and I'll catch you on the courts!

Even the waiting area between courts is top notch! Thank you for the seating and shade

Wow, what a facility!! I'm so glad I grabbed my Pickleball bag at the last minute on the way out for my trip to Ocean Beach. Only $7 for open play at the nicest facility I've ever experienced. I wished I lived closer!!

This place is the gold standard for pickleball and padel courts. It has the best vibes, lights for night games, great open play on Sundays, and I always have the best time renting courts out with friends. Also the best views during sunset!

The Barnes Tennis Center is the host venue for the San Diego Open, a WTA 500 women's professional tennis tournament. It's the leadup tourney one week before Indian Wells starts. I attended the event for 4 days and had a wonderful time. If you like getting up close to some of the best tennis players in the world, then you'll enjoy coming to the San Diego Open. I got photos with Jessica Pegula, Leyla Fernandez, Caroline Wozniacki and Beatriz Haddad Maia to name a few of the recognizable faces playing in this year's 2024 tourney. The Barnes Tennis Center is... - Located in the suburbs of San Diego, beside residential communities. I am from the east coast of the US and flying into San Diego for the matches, renting a car wasn't even necessary. There were affordable hotels within walking distance, less than 1 mile away. - After entering the facility, you walk over a synthetic lawn or some sort of plastic grass hallway, but regardless of that, it's a cool introduction to the Barnes Tennis Center. They have the San Diego Open WTA 500 tournament logo along with some of the sponsors' names posted in the background. It's a fun moment to pause and take photographs. - The Stadium Court has terrific seating for watching tennis. There's not a bad seat wherever your ticket is. - They also use Court 2 for matches. Stands are on just one section of this court, but on the opposite side of the umpire's chair so again, you get close to the action without hindrances. Another good aspect about Court 2 is it's next to players entering/exiting the practice courts. Although fans and spectators aren't allowed onto the practice court grounds, you can ask for autographs and pictures when they finish their warmups. - On the left-hand side outside the Stadium Court is one of the only viewing areas where fans can get front row access to watch practice. I believe it's called Tarantula Hill (but don't quote me on it, lol)...it features high stool chairs and a standing bar table for spectators to catch Practice Court 1 action. Included here is a Wilson clothing store, cocktail and snacks concessionaire, and a popular popcorn stand. - On the right side outside of the Stadium Court is the Fan Village. Here they sell merchandise, clothing and food. There are picnic tables with umbrellas. Plus, each day there were Q&A discussions to meet and greet the players. This happened in the afternoon around 3pm. And...Fan Village hosted autograph sessions once each day. There were plenty of chances to say hello to your favorite players. - I attended 2 of the qualifying days and the first 2 days of the main draw. Tickets were available for purchase online using SeatGeek. Buying a basic Grounds Pass...Qualifying Rounds were $20 per day, then add taxes and fees = $27. 1st round tix were $50 on SeatGeek, altogether = $61. Unfortunately, Grounds Passes didn't allow access inside the stadium court, but there was still plenty of action going on all around including matches on Court 2, hitting on Practice Court 1 and events at the Fan Village. - The Box Office sits in the front entrance to the tennis center. Prices at the BO were similar to SeatGeek, so it doesn't matter which path you decide for buying tickets. Overall, visiting the San Diego Open at the Barnes Tennis Center for the first time was a rewarding experience. It's an intimate setting for seeing some of the best women's tennis players in the world. Thank you for having me and looking forward to returning in 2025.

Started doing personal training with Natalie S. After one session I feel like a whole new person. She listened to my concerns and my goals and tailored a regimen to my specific needs. Love the Chill Zone - just wish it was included in the membership instead of $20 a session (you do get one free session per month which is nice). The infrared sauna is a great warm down! Grateful for this community and excited to try out more classes. Just wish there were more offerings, the classes I like are only offered once a week.

I chose this gym for the convenient location and easy parking. I'd never done a full walkthrough,…read moreso I popped in one afternoon and was genuinely impressed by the old-school vibe. It felt like a perfect match for someone who appreciates real gym culture over shiny boutique studios. But the longer I trained there, the more the cracks started showing--and they add up fast. The equipment is a mixed bag. The free weights feel satisfyingly heavy (old-world heavy, great for pumps), and I really loved the turf area--it's loaded with punching bags, sleds, aerial bands, kettlebells, Bosu balls, a vibration plate, and more. It's genuinely impressive... when it's not a zoo. People constantly cut across paths or leave equipment scattered everywhere. Lanes or some basic traffic management would make a huge difference. The machines, mostly older Techno Gym and Hoist units, are where things fall apart. Many have off motions, some are missing weight scales entirely so you can't even tell what you're lifting, and the abductor/adductor machine has a weirdly tilted seat that forces awkward positioning and incomplete reps. The locker room was a constant frustration. Way too small for the traffic, with tiny lockers that barely fit a gym bag--forget squeezing in shoes, a phone, or a hat. It's also uncomfortably hot with terrible ventilation, and the black toilets plus lack of any real vanity area made post-workout routines feel like a hassle. Same story with the abysmal shower water pressure. Nothing about the space felt luxurious despite the "low membership, high quality" marketing. The infrared sauna gets plenty hot but is clearly showing its age (the teak creaks like it's begging for maintenance). The cycle studio is actually awesome--super dark and built for intense rides--and the yoga studio with skylights and soft wood floors is cozy. The stretching room has a stretching cage and free percussion guns, but with only one cage and limited space, it quickly turns into a crowded mess. Two reformers are a nice touch, though. The recovery area has real potential: hot bath, cold plunge, red light panel, and Norma-Tec boots. But everything is pay-to-play after the first use (one free recovery session per month, $35 extra after that; InBody scans are $15 each). At my previous luxury club, these were included with your membership. They send a cute monthly newsletter highlighting employee of the month and new equipment, which is a nice touch, but it doesn't hide the feeling that the club is running on limited operating capital. Everything feels a little gimmicky and nickel-and-dimed. I really wanted to love this place for its old-school soul and solid turf setup, but at $199 per month, the headaches and lack of luxury simply aren't worth it. I'll miss the turf training the most, but I won't be renewing. Best avoided unless you're okay with paying premium prices for a dated experience.
