The Barnett Cabins are just fine. Mostly clean, great location, no fuss. Probably could be cheaper but I don't have much to compare it to in the area.
The cabins are just north of Hillsboro, West Virginia, and super conveniently located to some GREAT hiking in the Monongahela National Forest. The cabins are all on Stamping Creek and there is an old mill just up the hill. Pearls S. Buck's birthplace is also nearby. This is just a great area for history and nature, both.
The cabins are fairly new log cabins and we rented Cabin 1 for 2 nights in mid October. It had a basic kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom with vaulted ceilings. It was pretty clean but not spotless, with cobwebs in the corners and dirty window sills. My wife is pretty sensitive to animal dander and dust but she had no trouble during our stay.
The decor is pretty rustic, with WAY too many deer antlers and one too many stuffed turkeys. They had satellite tv and some great decks, the front one is covered. The fireplace was gas and worked super, it roasted us upon command.
The setting is very beautiful with the creek so nearby and great porch access. The other cabins are all within sight but not so close to feel your privacy invaded. The owners live on site if you need something.
The price was $120 per night, which feels kind of steep. I would have been happier to pay $80 but then again, I'm a Cheap Bastard.
Things to know: the water was slightly sulphuric, not terrible, but bottled water or a filter would be good for drinking. The kitchen was mostly equipped with pots and pans but void of cooking oil or most other stock items besides sugar and coffee. read more
