We had the best experience at this b and b! Used it as a base to bike the Greenbrier trail. We enjoyed the delicious warm breakfasts, fresh hot coffee with free refills in the morning, an amazing meal of trout, salmon, and crabcakes in the evening. Beds were comfortable and rooms were extremely clean. It has a great ambience to the whole place... Great views with beautiful fall colors. The owners are warm, friendly, and accommodating. They even provided us a shuttle to get to our vehicle after a little snafu on the bike trail the first day. We couldn't be happier with the stay and will definitely return! read more

I had an excellent experience here. The owners are wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed my conversations with them. The breakfast each day was substantial and the food quality excellent. Really good organic coffee too! I devoured each meal. I had dinner here one night as well and it was also very good (trout with a tasty crab cake that actually had crab - often find they are breadcrumbs and mayo - and properly cooked fresh tasting vegetables). I stayed in the upstairs room which is very spacious though does have more stairs if that is an issue for you. Grounds are lovely as well. Close to the Greenbrier river trail and the town which is small but cute and the folks friendly. Great place to bike and hike. read more

We rode our motorcycles to this tidy town nestled in the Monongahela park. We were looking for a place for dinner and walked over to Locust Hill. They sent a car to get us and the town is so small, they found us walking. It is a wonderful property and home. We arrived to a trivia game with a great showing of townspeople and guests. The menu is small with salads and sandwiches. Overall the food is honest (ok) but it is served with a smile. read more

We stayed here for a weekend while we went skiing at Snowshoe. The place was fantastic. It was cozy, very homey and very comfortable. The owners were super welcoming and easy to deal with. We didn't get to eat breakfast on Saturday because we left early that morning to go to Snowshoe. It was about a 45 minute drive to the slopes. When we came back, they were making dinner and it smelled amazing. I wished we had eaten dinner with them as well. We got up the next morning and they were preparing breakfast. We sat down and they served us a wonderful breakfast and we got to talk about the history of the place with Paula. It was a great place to stay at a very reasonable rate. We will definitely be back as I come skiing here often. read more

This is my first time in Marlinton. I am so glad we chose the Locust Hill Inn. Dave and Paula were wonderful hosts. They even provide shuttle service to parts of the Greenbrier River Trail. They served a delicious hot breakfast and also have a tavern on site. The property was relaxing. I have a second resident near here and I always seem to take 6 or more people with me. Their food is usually good but this is not a good place to take a group too! We've waited over a hour for them to take our order on several occasions and to even get a drink of water over a hour from the time of our reservation. This time everyone's meal was lukewarm or cold and we had waited over 1 hour and 45 minutes to get our meals . The staff is unfriendly and unwelcoming because their are few choices to eat in Marlinton and surrounding area they must feel like you get what you get ! I'm not going to go there again, I'd be better off going to Lewisburg and having more choices and get better treatment! read more

We came to stay at Locust Hill for a long weekend of rest and relaxation. We were warm and comfortable in the charming, rustic Cabin. The hot tub was a nice amenity! We enjoyed the beauty, peacefulness and unique community of Marlinton, W.Va. We enjoyed our meals both in the Pub at the Inn and the local restaurants and had a lively evening of music at the Historic Opera House in town. We bought some very nice local crafts too. I just had to review my experience at this B&B ! In one word, amazing !!! The rooms were very clean, the house was lovely and the setting was magical. We stayed two nights and rode in on motorcycles. The home sits on 22 acres with a fish pond and all kinds of games. The owners were very gracious and went out of their way to be accommodating. The restaurant had an amazing menu and everything was cooked to perfection. If you are looking for an excellent place to stay with plenty of places to see nearby, I would totally reccomend this B&B. We came to the Inn to relax and get away for the weekend and by the end of dinner Saturday night we were so relaxed and less stressed! The front porch swing, the live music, the wonderful meals! We had a steak made exactly to order and so tender. We had salmon that was so fresh and all was prepared especially for us. The bread pudding for desert was perfect! The way you are treated while you stay here is like you are a part of the place! We stayed in the suite upstairs and it was so quiet and perfect for sleeping restful! Stayed at the Inn and ate dinner here. At present, only open Fri thru Sun, 5:00 to 9:00. Nice selection of sandwiches and entrees with a special that runs all weekend. The pork and beef served are from WV and free range chicken are used. Bread pudding is one of the best I have had. Food was spiced well, particularly the desserts. One can dine on the front porch and the view of the property is beautiful. The owners are friendly, the service was good and the food tasty. I'd choose this place again for sure the next time I am in this area of WV. read more

Great place to stay and eat! We spent four nights here . Rode the Greenbriar Trail and went to some of the other attractions! Dave and Paula are great hosts they do everything they can to ensure your stay is enjoyable. But the true hidden treasure is the restaurant! Amazing dinners! The only mistake we made was not eating dinner Saturday evening. We ventured into town and had dinner at the Greenbriar Grill and that was a mistake! I'd give them zero stars if I could. I think Locust Hill must have been paying people for good reviews. Maybe it used to be a good place to stay at one time. That certainly wasn't our experience. I traveled with my wife and our 10-month-old baby boy. We were in town visiting friends, but we had made a reservation weeks in advance to stay in the cabin as a treat to each other for our anniversary. We were treated horribly by the owners. They treated us like liars and tried to get us to pay for a night that we didn't get. There was really bad weather when we arrived in the area Thursday afternoon. The news station later called it a 'thousand year storm', and they showed severe flooding and a house on fire while floating down the local river. We received several reports from our friends in the area, local and state police, and the local DOT website saying that the roads around Marlinton were closed due to flooding and debris. We called the owners of Locust Hill, Dave and Paula, three times from the road, trying to communicate the fact that reports we were receiving indicated that we had no physical way of getting to the Inn on Thursday night. Paula was extremely short and dismissive and offered no assistance whatsoever! Her response was "I can't talk to you. I have tables to wait". We also found out later from two different people in town that at least half of the town of Marlinton was evacuated. We were forced by the weather to stay outside the area that night. Luckily the next afternoon the water had subsided enough that we could get down the road to the Inn. When we arrived, Paula was very rude and had no empathy whatsoever for our situation. The only thing she cared about was the money. She kept saying they have a week cancellation policy and would not understand that we wanted to be there Thursday night, but the ROADS WERE CLOSED! She finally rented the cabin to me for the remaining two nights in our reservation. At that point I would've told her to take a hike and left if she hadn't already gotten my credit card number for the reservation. There was no tour or any kind of helpful information given during check-in. Paula only said "It's ready for you. Go on down there". She didn't even hand me a key. I had to ask for the key to which she replied "It's on a nail by the door if you need to lock it". Seriously?! Why wouldn't I need to lock the door when we leave for the day?! Maybe they're comfortable leaving their doors unlocked, but they need to understand that most people would appreciate some security during their stay. Well the cabin that Paula claimed was ready for us....wasn't. When we got to the cabin, the doors were left wide open and no air conditioning or ceiling fans were running. It was sweltering hot inside the cabin!!! Since no information had been provided about the cabin we had to spend time searching for air conditioning and fan switches. It took us the entire first night there to get the cabin cooled enough to be tolerable. We and our little boy had a lot of trouble sleeping that night. We stayed in the cabin Friday and Saturday night. The cabin had a long list of issues due to being unkept. Those issues included: Broken, unsafe stair supports General uncleanliness Bathroom towels severely stained Hot tub in horrible disrepair Trash in the bottom of the hot tub Cleaning chemicals left out on the porch Shower head extremely loose and nasty Burnt out light bulbs the hadn't been replaced Bugs crawling on the bed pillows Paint blistering off the porch swing Mold/mildew on the shower curtain Nails sticking up out of the deck boards Floor rugs that hadn't been cleaned Floors hadn't been cleaned No instructions posted for anything. Had to figure out how to operate hot tub, etc. Deadbolts installed in the doors but no cut-outs in the door jams so you couldn't lock them, which makes the deadbolts a moot point The pics that have been posted online for this place prior to this review only give a distant view and don't show the many problems. We looked through the guest books that were laying on the kitchen counter. Many people who have stayed there over the last few years mentioned that instructions were needed to operate the hot tub, gas fireplace, etc. Instructions still haven't been posted. So this indicates to me that they don't read the books at all, don't care, or both. When we checked out on Sunday morning, I went back up to the office to tell them that we were very unhappy customers due to the way were treated and poor condition of the cabin, that we were never coming back, and give them another chance to apologize for their behavior. Dave was in the kitchen when we drove up. I told him how we felt, and I've never seen such disrespect and utter callousness from a business owner toward a customer in my life. He could've at least faked concern. The owners are rude and disrespectful to customers! Common sense doesn't live at Locust Hill! They can't seem to read more

My son and I stayed here for two nights because we were in town to ride the Cass Scenic train. This place was wonderful! The food was great as were the rooms. Paula and David were awesome too! If you're lucky you will get to sample Paula's famous chocolate cake! We can't wait to come back. Be warned that there is NO cell service in Pocahontas County! This Inn does have wifi though. read more

We spent 4 nights at Locust Hill and were so pleased with the service provided by Paula and Dave. Locust Hill is immaculate and friendly. In addition to being a B&B, Paula and Dave have opened a pub on the premises for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. After a long day on the Greenbrier trail, an evening of pub food and conversation on the big front porch with travelers and locals is just what we needed.
