Hired Barney to clear a shed which he did and I was pleased with his work and also thought he was very friendly though a bit odd that he didn't have a truck. A few months go by and I ask if he can do some more work for me. We set several dates/times and he kept rescheduling on the same day (usually past the time he said he'd come) or he'd just not show up and tell me how crazy his schedule is a few days later After a week I had written him off and he reached out again, apologized, and said he'd come by Saturday at 10:30. I text him at 10:25 to make sure he was on his way and he replied "Yikes, I forgot we set a time. I can come by at 11:15 or later this afternoon." I was waiting for him to be here at 10:30. This is no way to run a business. If he shows up expect fair and honest work/pricing but don't hire him for something big that requires a truck lest you want him to charge you for a rental. Oh and don't expect him to actually show. He's worse at keeping a schedule than the cable company. read more

I have hired Barney for a number of handyman jobs. He is pleasant and I trusted him. Unfortunately, I had to learn the hard way that he does not know the limits of what he can do and he does not stand by his work. He charged me an exorbitant amount to repair a defect in a wall following removal of an a/c unit. (Since he charges by the hour and not by the job, it ended up costing more than 3x what a drywall contractor would have charged). He did not apply joint tape. A year later, the area is cracked and buckled, and he has not responded to multiple emails to address the faulty work. I'm disappointed. read more

I just moved into a new house, so I needed a handyman. I found Barney online, and he responded quickly to my email. I needed help with putting blinds up, putting up a TV mount, connecting a bed headboard to the frame, putting in LED retrofit lights, fixing the dishwasher overflow thing, some plumbing issues, and fixing a broken drawer. I was hoping he could solve my electrical issue, but he wasn't able to determine the cause. Overall, he was efficient, easy to work with, tidy, and did a great job. He was able to come within the week of first contacting him which was great as many other handyman in the area were booked for weeks or months. When he wasn't able to do the work requested, he let me know what he did try so I can go to a professional in that specific area. I have no complaints and would recommend him! read more

Great service! I contacted Barney about a french window with a broken hinge, which was a rather urgent matter. There were a few more minor needs around the house, including a stuck drawer, hanging cabinet door, ceiling light fixture, and loose ceiling bulbs. He did everything speedily but with great care, and showed me exactly what was going on. It was even fun having him visit, even with both of us properly masked. Barney is a very nice guy but my experience with him is quite different by comparison to the other reviews here. Last year I hired Barney to complete a bunch of projects in my closets and the basic repair jobs and closet repair work were fine. However, I asked Barney if he could complete building out a cabinet above my refrigerator and he agreed to take on the additional work. After an initial attempt he could not get the door hinged properly and it would not stay even. He left and after several calls to ask him for direction and ideas he finally "reappeared" and started work yet again. After a lot of work, he still could not get it right and I still do not have a workable cabinet as promised and have not heard back from him for months since paying him for part of the work. I would have appreciated it if he'd called someone else in to complete the project if he didn't have the expertise to take it on. All in all, he's been paid for what's been completed and part of an unfinished project in my kitchen and no courtesy whatsoever to reach back out. I found him to also be very disorganized and frequently late. Barney was paid a high hourly rate and I'm very disappointed with his professionalism and how he's handled (or not handled this) project and I can't recommend him. read more
