I met with the owner, Mike, and discussed my ideas, and let him do the rest. I was absolutely amazed with the installation. Jim and the crew were well organized, efficient, and displayed expertise beyond my expectations. When they had completed the installation you could not tell that they had even been here. We had a 20+ year old system in place that was limping along. Mike and his team came in and installed all new fixtures and added new ones, upgraded timers, and replaced incandescent bulbs with LED. The clean up job was amazing and reasonably priced. The real plus is the customer service and cleanliness; we never felt like our home was a job site. They cleaned up every day and the places where they had to trench were carefully restored. No plants were damaged in the slightest! I can't recommend their services enough. I just want to give Mike and his amazing crew a 5-star review. I moved into the Loma Portal area 2 years ago. My house needed some serious work in front of the house. I have turfed the lawn, laid big and small boulders, replaced plants and still laying cool stone to make the house look great. However, it was missing lights which as we all know are the jewels of the house. I looked on yelp and saw 5-star reviews about Mike and Lightscape. I called Mike and he came out a few days later and walked the front and backyard. I had a budget and Mike and I worked out a great plan for the front and backyard. I was a little worried because Mike was talking about putting lights in the turf to show off some of the palms and then putting lights in areas where stone was already laid. Mike said don't worry we got it. Mike is an OB guy and makes you feel really comfortable about what his crew is going to do to the property. He said you will never know that we were even here (except for the amazing lights). I am telling you Mike is a man of his word. Alejandro and his team were amazing! I can't tell you all how awesome these guys were. I had over 30 lights put in and to be honest don't know how they did it. I can see preconstruction but not a house that has this many obstacles. Since we've moved into our bigger home recently, we have had quite a few enhancements to make it more beautiful, and I must say, of all the projects that we have had, the outdoor lighting that Mike and his team did has the most value (the beauty it creates compared to the money spent on it). When looking at landscape lighting companies, I looked at 3 companies. 6 years ago when buying our new home, we looked into using Silver Moon Lighting when it was originally owned and ran by Kyle Finley. He was excellent and definitely was organized, drew up the locations of where the lights would go and his suggestions were great. For many reasons, we couldn't do the lighting at that time 6 years ago. Flash to this year and I wanted to use Kyle again. Sadly, he sold the business. I wanted to give the new owner a try. I talked to the new owner, and it was day and night difference. The new owner didn't seem to care very much. Two of his guys showed up, looks like they were the guys that carried out the actual work. They seemed nice enough, they made some suggestions. But when I received a quote for the work, it was not a detailed list of types of lights, nor was there a list of where it would go. It was just one total quote and that's it. What if I wanted to take out this or that light? What if I wanted to add another light? I couldn't do that with one total quote. I was not happy with the quality of service and how Silver Moon Lighting is run now. Then I looked into another landscape lighting company, run by an Australian or perhaps New Zealander guy. The pros, was that he had good ideas for design. The guy was very much a smooth talker and was speaking very much like a salesman trying to sell me way more than I needed. He had an assistant with him, and I thought this was a bit odd as I'm used to contractors talking one-on-one and being straight shooters. But, I was uneasy with his pitch and him wanting to add lights of different color filters, etc. His suggestions were all really over the top. Add onto that, he doesn't have a contractor's or electrician's license so he wasn't going to put in the lights himself. He was basically just the designer and had someone else put in the lights for him. I wanted to work with someone who was invested in doing the lighting and carried the work out himself or oversaw it. Luckily, I met with Mike from Lightscape Designs. He was honest and had integrity throughout the process. He owns this company and has a contractor's license to do landscape lighting. He grew up around the lighting business. Because he carries out the work himself with his team, he was always on top of everything and met any needs I had. He met my budget and had great design ideas that made sense for my landscape. He's a straight shooter so he was honest about what looked best and what could be done. I wanted a modern concept with my landscape lighting. My back yard is very modern and had many clean lines, so I wanted to continue the modern theme. We started a very collaborative dialogue of what modern lights were out there. Typically, a lot of the landscape lighting companies use this one catalogue from this one company with the same brass type lights. I wanted nickel-plated, silver colored metal material that was more contemporary. I shared with him some inspiration lighting that I really liked. In turn, he provided booklets of lighting from several different companies like FX, Bega, Aurora Lights, Unique Lighting, and many many others. This was great! I didn't have to get the same lights everyone had and was able to customize the lights with the right type for my yard. I found lights that were modern and sleek, but they were expensive. Mike suggested lights that were similar for half the price or less. He was so pleasant and patient in this collaborative project. I appreciated all the ideas that he came up with and the final design was fabulous. We ended up doin uplights highlighting the columns of our house and the trees, level lights that were shined horizontally, path lights and moonlighting. We get to enjoy our backyard at night now and so many of our neighbors have complimented on the beauty of the lighting design. On top of this, the LED lights have a warm glow and it will last a very long time without needing any maintenance. The cost to run LED lights are nominal and we get to have it on for a long time making us feel great about saving on electricity cost. There was also lighting software/hardware timers that Mike put in. My husband is a software engineer and we wanted a system that could be used with an app with our phones to turn on/off lights. Mike worked with us in getting a system that was integrated. If you are traditional and wanted to put a manual shutoff/on button then that was fine too. Or you could choose to have it set up both ways technologically. After our lighting was put in, we needed some adjustments done. If we didn't like some aspect of how the lighting looked, Mike was out there fixing it until the lighting was perfect. Bottom line: Mike is your guy for top notch service. He is honest and willing to help customers execute their vision within their budget. I am beyond pleased by his work and recommend him to everyone that needs quality lighting put in. I cant say enough great things about Mike and his crew. We hired Mike at Lightscape Designs after meeting with a few different lighting companies. From the first time I reached out to Mike, he was responsive and eager to work with us. He was able to meet right away to walk the property, listen to our needs and make recommendations. We were planning to have lighting installed where there was no electricity and he explained exactly how they could make it all work. He responded with in 24 hours with 2 quotes (2 options). The other companies took 4-6 days to email me a quote. We asked Mike to come back again, at night when it was dark (8:30 pm b/c it was summer) to show us the fixtures/bulbs he was recommending. Once we new we were a go, Mike scheduled us and completed the work. We couldn't be happier with our newly lighted back yard! We found Lightscape Design online when we needed to update our outdoor lighting. Mike Geier was quick to respond, a consummate professional with great suggestions to improve on our ideas while being helpful in keeping the costs down. This is the first contractor I have used that warranted joining yelp to review him. We have lived in San Diego for about 8 years and have used many contractors for various things. Some have been mediocre, a few bad, and even the good ones have always had some issues. We had no issues with Mike Geier and Lightscape Designs, he did a fantastic job on our lighting, and went far above our expectations. Our job was a decent sized one (about 75 lights) and we shopped around quite a bit and got several quotes. Mike was competitive but not cheaper than the others we met with. We ended up choosing him because we "got a good feeling" about his personality - no up-sell, very straightforward with his itemized pricing, very instructive about the differences between different lights. When they came out and did the install, he noticed that some of my older lights that we had left on the patio could be retrofitted to LED so he just went out and did it and put new bulbs in all of them (no charge!). They completed the install in the time they said they would, and Mike came out that night to check it out. We had chosen a fairly unique light and it was not one he has installed before (and was a more expensive model). The first thing he said (we had already noticed this) when he arrive was that the lights didn't work (were too bright from certain angles) and we should pull them. He then recommended several different (less expensive!) options and installed one of each for us to see them. After we chose one, they came out, replaced them, and gave us a credit for the less expensive lights (no extra charges for labor, no nickel and diming, nothing). They also did some other electrical work and extra stuff to make the system run more smoothly that was not included in the quote he did not charge extra for. This guy is honest, takes pride in his work, and does a great job. Strongly recommend. read more

He came out to my property and listened to my concerns and requests regarding my failed yard lighting system, and after a short study, gave me his tentative plan for a new LED light project, which I wanted. Within just a few days, he sent me a detailed proposal, with options. The project was completed in one day, as soon as all ordered lights had been received. I found Mike to be honest, not at all pushy, trustworthy and punctual, and friendly.
