I've been going to this Vet. for the last 4.5 years and although they are more expensive than any vet in the area, I always had a good experience with them until today. I had scheduled an appointment to have my dog's nails trimmed because she can be very difficult and requires sedation. I was told that if they were unable to cut her nails, more sedation would be required and possibly putting the dog under anesthesia. During the visit the doctor was incredibly rough and at no point did he stop to suggest that more sedation is needed. Once he finished cutting my dog's nails, I had noticed that her nail was bleeding at the base. I made the doctor aware, he took a look at it and he said "she would be fine and there's nothing to worry about." 2 days later as I'm walking my dog I noticed she was limping and found her nail to be completely ripped out and bleeding. Once I stopped the bleeding I called the vet immediately to make an appointment. I was told that I could not be seen for 4 days and that I would be responsible for the bill. They referred me to Garden State Vet. This is completely unprofessional and I am shocked that this is how they treat their customers. I would not recommend this place to anyone! read more

I am very disappointed in this vet hospital. This was my first time using them. My dog was coughing she was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection" and they gave her a couple of different pills to take. My bill was very expensive. A few weeks later my dog is still coughing so the medicine didn't work. My bill was fairly high and now working with them and the insurance company is very frustrating. They refuse to send me the soap notes, therefore the insurance company needed to ask for a request, which they asked weeks ago. I had to call multiple times on top of my insurance company calling multiple times for the soap notes. They still have not sent the soap notes over to the insurance company and we are going on a month after she was seen. Every day is another excuse! Now I will be going over to the vet in person to speak to someone. I will not be using them ever again. My other vet sent me the soap notes the minute I asked for them which I downloaded onto my insurance app and I got paid the next day. read more

We had an emergency yesterday. Scout, our Cairn Terrier devoured a muffin full of raisins, and we were an hour away from our Vet's office. Luckily, we found Barnside as we were driving on Rte. 33. We went in and were seen immediately. They recognized the need to act quickly, and they took care of Scout (sparing the gruesome details) and returned him to us less than an hour later. Dr. Sharin coordinated with our Vet via phone, and kept us well informed every step of the way, and her pleasant nature and knowledge of what do do put us at ease. I started taking my Sam to Barnside after I tried another vet in town & he hated the vet tech, & the vet. He's a great dog, but neurotic & fearful, so if he's that uncomfortable we move on. A nail trim is a nightmare & my old vet had to charge double when I had it done because he was so fearful. They couldn't even get his weight. That was the 2nd vet that had to do that! He is completely different at Barnside. The girls at the front desk talk to him by name, petted him & gave him a treats. The place is always clean & he's genuinely happy when he goes there. He LOVES the other animals there (especially the gerbils). What a difference. Thankfully I do not have to go there frequently with him but it's nice to know when I do he can relax. He recently had his physical with Dr. Palmisano & he was a very good boy! I'm amazed at the difference in his demeanor. I definitely recommend Barnside. read more

We have been taking our dog Sebastian to Dr. Sharin for over 7 years now. We have never had any issues and we also use Barnside for boarding. After touring several other boarding facilities this is by far the best. It is extremely clean and very well organized. We always drop off Sebastian with the feeling that he is in good hands. Our pets are our family and they should be treated with the same care. Dr. Sharin is a great doctor. She always returns our calls and is very professional. This is a nice place to take your pets but evetime you need something from them it is an issue. I went into the vet to get an updated copy of my pets rabies vaccines and was provided to the wrong certificate. I called to ask to get new copy and was told I must go in person to pick it up. They refused to mail it to me I even offered to pay for the postage. I pay my bills every time I go into the vet and always with two dogs which is very costly, I can't believe a postage stamp could be an issue. Not sure if I will go back to this vet. Took hundreds of dollars from me, told me my dog was having epileptic seizures and that I needed to go to a Neurologist for what could be a brain tumor. It turned out to be FLEAS. No apology, no concern for putting me and my dog through unecessary turmoil, and would not refund me for the all of the 'tests' they did. This was, hands down, the best veterinary experience I have had yet. After years of searching for the right vet, I am so grateful to have finally found a home in Barnside! Dr. Drotos, Vet Tech Tony, and the support staff at Barnside made my little Pit Bull girl (and me!) feel so comfortable and safe. The doc took plenty of time with us and listened to all our concerns before diagnosing my girl and treating her for UTI. If you want your senior dog to get care till the end of their life - DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES take them to this vet. I have a 19 year old chihuahua who is in declining health for the last two weeks and they refuse to see her. They are all booked up and will not make room to see her. Now mind you they are a veterinary clinic and hospital. We were told to take her to an emergency hospital which we did. We could leave her there over night but no promises her heart could take it. I ask you, would you leave your dog. So we got no results there as they do not have any of her old records to compare to - we got, it could be this, it could be that but we don't know. In other words, we were sent home with our sick dog. I just called again to beg if I could come in with her - I got too bad we are booked. Not even a sorry. There is no compassion or professionalism there. I was crying and begging for them to at least see her on the phone - I got nothing. Please I beg you now do not go there with your dog!!!!!!! I've been going to Barnside for roughly 4 years now and I can honestly say I have no complaints. Staff is always super helpful when you first call to book an appointment to make sure the doctor knows of any issues you may have ahead of time. When you walk in, it's nice and open and very welcoming. Add in the cute factor that it literally looks like a barn inside and outside (duh). Dr. Sharin is very thorough and always makes sure your questions/concerns are addressed. They never give your animal any shots they may need unless approved by you. She gives great advice on how to properly take care of your pet depending on the concerns that may arise. 10/10 would recommend. I love going here and so do my pets. Moved into Farmingdale and moved my pets' files over to Barnside. Overall their service was standard - nothing really spectacular. It takes a very long time to get an appointment and once you show up your appointment takes for.ev.errr. I was fine dealing with it since their location was convenient. My final straw is how they put my cat to sleep. They do not use sedatives - my cat was literally trying to run away and being held down when they administered the euthanasia drug. Their follow-up after was unprofessional and disrespectful. I had to call for 3 days to finally get a phone call back and Dr. Sharin stood firm on the botched euthanasia. She did not seem to care how traumatic it was for myself or for my cat. Moving back to my old vet a half hour away - at least I will know that my pets are being cared for by people who genuinely care about the animal and the owner. read more

I had got a new kitten which came with a bunch of struggles from diarrhea to my older cat getting sick. I had gone to another vet who told me it'd cost me 1300 dollars to get everything I needed FOR MY KITTEN, but when I came here for my older cat being sick (depressed) which caused him to not eat, get diarrhea, and an upper respiratory infection the doctors here told me what I should do and it was cost effective. Rather than vets who scare you and tell you to give your animals all of these tests for hundreds of dollars when your cat just needs some mild antibiotics. The staff is so friendly and I will only go here when ever I am in need of a vet!! read more

I would not recommend this Veterinary hospital. I'm a long time pet owner and found the front office staff very rude. Be prepared to hand over your credit card upon entering the building prior to a procedure. I had a very excited, uncontrollable dog and the receptionist repeatedly asked for my credit card before entering the treatment room. Where is common sense, better people skills and training for staff? Other friends also very turned off by this obvious focus on "payment first" - above all else- attitude. I won't return. read more

My pup Rosie was a patient at Barnside until today. Rosie was not herself for several days. Then she ended up vomiting several times during the night and also shaking and non-stop scratching. I requested appointment the night before on website then called early in the morning to request an appointment because Rosie is only 5 lbs and I was concerned about her not eating and vomiting and being dehydrated. After explaining to woman at Barnside on phone, she put me on hold then came back and said Dr Sharon was all booked up for day BUT could fit me in as an emergency. That would be $50 extra for appointment. I was shocked!!! Every other vet I have been to thru the years of owning pups I have never been charged extra to get in the same day. Shouldn't vets leave time each day for pups who get sick and need to come in???? Should there be an extra $50 charge??? Shouldn't vets be concerned for all pups well being and not the money and fit them in schedule??? This is the second time this has happened to me at Barnside. My dog is a BUG (1/2 pug and d1/2 Boston T.). He hates to have his toenails cut and nobody has ever done his toenails with any enthusiasm, because he is difficult. Usually, he comes out from any other place, with his nails looking almost the same as he went in. There are two gals at Barnside that do a very good job, as one needs to hold Willy, while the other gal does the cutting. He's difficult and the girls always seem to get the job done. People are quick to write bad reviews, but Willy presents a problem and these gals show, patience and compassion. This was my first visit to Barnside since I recently moved from NY. I have to tell you how unbelievably pleased and truly happy both Kennedy and I am. After using the same Veterinarian and Animal Hospital for nearly 40 years, I was feeling very anxious about going someplace new. That quickly disappeared when I saw how professional, friendly and thorough everyone was. And the place is spotless, fully equipped and more like an upscale resort for your pets. Linda, the groomer did an excellent job on Kennedy. She was given the "Lion Cut" because she has long hair and she really looks beautiful and I think feels much better as well. I know that I do! In April I had noticed that my dog had what we thought were swollen glands in her neck. We called my usual vet who told us we couldn't be fit in for an entire month. Thinking this was completely ridiculous we called Barnside vet and got an appointment with Dr. Sharin within a day or so. We took lily in and were delivered devastating news, Dr. Sharin told us that she believed that lily had lymphoma and what were thought were swollen glands were actually swollen lymph nodes. This was the first time that we had even come to Barnside and Dr. Sharin and her staff treated us like we had been patients with her office for years. We were immediately referred to an oncologist and got an appointment the next day. As anyone could imagine this was an incredibly tough time for my boyfriend and I, we had so any questions and Dr. Sharin would always make time to talk to us even after the office was closed. There would be days that she would be on the phone with my boyfriend for a half hour, she was always compassionate and honest with us. Sadly we only had 6 weeks with Lily after her diagnosis but at least it was 6 happy weeks for her. If we had waited for our old vet we would've only had two weeks with her. Barnside is about 45 minutes from where we live but I could never imagine going to another vet. Dr. Sharin and her team are AMAZING and as long as we are living in Nj we will travel as far as we need to in order to stay patients. read more

I happened upon Barnside several years ago when I was driving with my greyhound in my car and he started having some type of episode with difficulty breathing. I pulled in, they saw him immediately as he was in distress and correctly diagnosed him with laryngeal paralysis. I continued to use Barnside for him until he passed over the bridge and use them now for my current greyhound. I also board him there when I go away. I have always received excellent care and service. Dr. Sharin is great. I was less impressed with another doctor there and always make my appointments with Dr. Sharin. I have recommended Dr. Sharin and Barnside to others and will continue to do so. read more

This has been the worst experience in 25 yrs owning dogs. My 2 dogs were boarded at Barnside Veterinary Hospital in Farmingdale, NJ and both came down with kennel cough. Both dogs had their boardatella shots and still contracted the disease. I had a future date booked for boarding that I wanted to cancel due to the above reasons. Michael Sharin would not return my deposit that was required to hold the future date. He offered me 50% of the deposit back but not the total amount even though I was canceling a month in advance of the scheduled date. Both my dogs are extremely ill and had to be brought to another emergency vet for treatment. Michael Sharin, the owner of the practice is a poor businessman, using poor judgment over returning a $95 deposit versus 2 sick dogs that contracted the kennel cough while under his care. Shame on you! Don't bring your pets here especially for boarding. read more

Dr. Sharin is okay for a few things, but when it comes to diagnosis, I'm disgusted. When I took my one cat there because he was spitting up, she started out okay with the checkup, listening to his lungs, etc. Then she did an FIV test, which came up positive (he had been a stray, so no surprises there). As soon as she saw that positive result, her whole attitude changed. She was dismissive and said he wouldn't live long because of it. Then she said he just had an upper respiratory infection and gave me antibiotics. Two days later, the cat was worse, and couldn't hold down food or water, so I rushed him to another vet. Well, he listened to his chest, and immediately did an X-ray, which revealed a 7" long cancerous tumor that was crushing his organs. Dr. Sharin completely missed the massive tumor because she was too dismissive of the FIV diagnosis. For the most part, I have not been happy with her as she is a very pharmaceutical-pushing vet, and gets very snippy if you disagree with her in the least. I just had another cat in there for an eye problem and though the one doctor did a stain test and felt the eye had been getting better the week before, Dr. Sharin, upon hearing I had used 2 drops of colloidal silver in the eye, blew up (yelling "NO NO NO...) and didn't bother with the stain test. She basically glanced at the cat's eye, put her palm to forehead, shaking her head dramatically, and pronounced that it was FAR worse and the cat needed a specialist. It was a complete waste of over an hour (she was 40 minutes late, even though there was only one other animal in the hospital at the time). I'm finished with this group, and though I like the other vet, I will not chance having to see Dr. Sharin again. I will be looking for a new vet on Monday for a decent second opinion on my cat's eye problem. read more
