Barnyard is a great bbq spot is Douglas! The food is amazing! The pulled pork is exquisitely tender and the smoked chicken is seasoned very well! This was REAL bbq. We don't have that in New England. We spent 3 nights at General Coffee State Park and grabbed 2 of the triple meat plates from this cute little takeout stand. The meat was delicious and the portions were huge, easily 2 meals. The potato salad was whipped (something I never knew existed), but it was delicious. We took this to go back to the campsite, but the location and building was really cute so we probably would have enjoyed eating there. The place was packed, so it's very popular locally. This is basically a pick up only spot. There are two picnic tables to sit and eat but who really would want to eat outside in a South Georgia summer? I tried the sampler plate and the amount of food was amazing. For $10 I had food for two meals. The pulled pork was juicy and tender, the ribs fall off the bone good, the chicken a nice Smokey flavor but a touch over done. I've been going to Barnyard BBQ in Douglas, GA for years, but tonight may have been my last visit. First I tried to call them over a dozen times before I went to see if they had chicken because I didn't want to waste my time when I got there and they not have it, but of course they NEVER answer their phone most evenings. The line would ring and ring and no one would ever pick up. So I took the chance and went to the restaurant in person and I waited in line nearly 25 minutes before I finally got my turn at the window (there were 4 ahead of me and one person took well over 10 minutes which was crazy) and ordered some BBQ Chicken. The lady took my order and I went to wait watching all the other orders get filled and then I heard the lady call my order number and went to the window for her to tell me they were out of Chicken and no one in the back told her. This is inexcusable and extremely disappointed in the lack of customer service and care they have with their clientele. The problems with Barnyard are two things. They have more business than they can handle so if they upset some customers big deal, and they don't have good communication nor enough people working there to operate the way a good restaurant should. Tonight I truly felt like they could have cared less that I spent 48 minutes from the time I got in line till the time they told me they were out of chicken and all I got was an I'm sorry. They could have offered me a slab of ribs or something equivalent or actually a little higher in value for having to wait there so long for nothing. I told the lady I wanted a refund which she said she did because she didn't give me a receipt so I trust that happened. Barnyard almost always has good food unless it is dried out which has happened on a couple occasions, but you go there at your own risk and after tonight I know without a doubt they don't care about the customer, only about making money. I could have had some choice words for the owner or whoever was managing their prep area tonight for this dismal visit, but left politely and decided to leave this review instead. I truly hope if you read this review and want to be appreciated as a customer then you shouldn't go to Barnyard because they showed me tonight they do not care. McDonalds gives better service than Barnyard which is sad. read more

Sometimes, the BBq shack on the side of the road is the best there is! My husband and I saw this randomly while driving to General Coffee State park. I made a mental note and after a day at the park, we hit it up on the way home. As soon as we stepped out of the car, I knew it was good- you know that delicious smoked smell that surrounds a good place? Yep, you'll find that here. The Meat: We got the sampler- chicken, a pile of pork, and one huge rib. All of it was delicious. I was a little bummed there was only one rib, but it was a BIG one! The pork pile was enough for a massive thick sandwich, (but bring your own bread). Chicken was also very good. I'd have any of the three again in a heartbeat. I'd also love to see them try brisket! The Sides: The sides were fair; each meal came with two. None of them looked very interesting, so I went with potato salad and let my husband have the other three. I think they had beans, Brunswick stew and some other items. The potato salad turned out to be cold mashed potatoes with eggs, chives, and some other potato salad-y ingredients (probably vinegar, mustard, mayonnaise?). It tasted decent, but messed with your mind as you expected it to be hot rather than cold. I heated mine up at home and it was alright. The Extras: Came with two sides and a small roll; and the price was Very good for all of this. Sweet tea was perfect in my mind- very sweet, very strong, very Southern. Only one kind of BBq sauce, but I liked it. I typically like a sweeter, thicker sauce, and this was neither, but I liked the flavor. I'd say it was more of a vinegar-based sauce, but I'm not a sauce expert so I can't give you much more than that. Miscellaneous: We managed to eat all of our food (we each got a sampler), but that's really only because we had a day of outdoor activity combined with a missed lunch. If I had to do it on a normal day, I'd eat only half of that for sure, so plan for leftovers. They have a couple outside tables, but it was raining, so we took ours home. It's ONLY open Thursday-Friday- Gotta get it while you can! :) I'd give this a 4-4.5. They need to ditch the rolls for Texas toast and make real potato salad, but the meat is where it's at!! We'd definitely go back if we lived in the area! read more
