I love Barrons! They have a great salad bar, soup bar and pasta salad bar. This is my go-to place for a quick, healthy dinner. I commute to Campo from San Diego monthly because I am a caregiver for both my parents. One of my favorite places to shop for produce and meat is Baron Markets. The prices on produce are comparison and equal to local produce stores in town. The meats are highly fresh. Fantastic. Although it's a little pricy for the area and for about 2/3 of the locals. They do however, have wonderful weekly specials AND their produce is consistently fresh and well worth it. Staff are very friendly and helpful and always Available to answer your questions. Store is always clean and shelves are always stocked. Don't forget to go to the back of the store and try the samples of some of their specialty promotion items. We've also tried the salad bar and the variety and quality are excellent. So, if you're in the mood for a great salad you build yourself, this is well worth the try. You definitely won't be disappointed. When you do, write a review too, I'm sure I'll read it. I like reading Yelp reviews because I think they're more honest than what we call "news" on tv or social media. read more

I love coming here. It's always a treat for me. I make the drive from Santee every few months to restock specific items that Sprouts doesn't carry. Their infused olive oils and balsamic sauce bar is pretty unique. I've never seen that before. Their produce always looks great and I love their frozen dinner selection. Alpine needed a high quality market, and Baron's is it. With a great selection of fresh fruits and veggies, your standard higher end grocery items, but oh the selection of beer. You won't find low end mass produced commercialized beers here; this is the micro-brew lovers dream come true. Row after row of micro's take up the majority of real estate on one side of the store both chilled or room temp. The prices are fair enough to make it a one stop shop for a special dinner or to pick up your specialized item, but not your everyday shopping. Located snuggly in the first shopping center in Alpine you can drop in for sushi next door while waiting on your clothes from the dry cleaners or pick up your medicine cabinet items at the pharmacy store while your picking out those special foods for tonights event. Well worth the trip if you are within a fifteen minute drive of the area; and of course if you are an Alpine local. read more

Looking back a year since Baron's came to town, they were much better a year ago! The produce prices for the most part are competitive, but the produce itself is "meh" at best. I can't tell you how many soft apples I've tried to pick through and the jalapenos are already pretty soft by the time I buy them. Both jalapenos and apples should be firm and crisp! Apples are brown when you cut into them! The produce dept is SO tiny and when it is busy there is always , ALWAYS and employee rolling a BIG OL CART along the produce wall making it very difficult for me to navigate MY cart in the same area. I've also noticed more than once that they advertise a special price on their Taylor farms salads in the flyer, but the price NEVER gets updated in the store! When I bring it to the attention of the checker, they always adjust the price for me, but never notify anyone to actually FIX it. This just seems dishonest--like those places with a "going out of business" sign in the window for 12-15 months! They have not had the Carmelized onion dogs for MONTHS now... Yeah, yeah, blame "the county" but why it is taking so long to bring them back? Or is Baron's mgt blatantly ignoring the County recommendations? They also don't sample like they used to--half the time when I am there in the middle of the day there is nothing. And on top of this, their prices are creeping up pretty fast. Unless you want organic dairy or craft beer, you are pretty much better off going to Albertson's. You are going to have to go there for most of your stuff anyway, so might as well just make the one trip! Too bad cause I started out as their biggest fan... read more

This is probably the most frustrating, slow, stiff personnel Barons I've ever had the displeasure of shopping at. And I have given them more than ample time to figure it out. Try being creative folks, when it comes to customer issues at the checkout. Try timing your lines once, you may be shocked at how slow your personnel are! And when you open a new line because you finally noticed that nobody has checked out for the laat 15 min, grab the next person in line and don't just let the individual who hasn't waited step up. Excellent selection of fresh produce. Just bought some pears and cantaloupe - both excellent in quality and taste. Rotisserie chicken is a great value for main meal and leftovers for stew, soup, and tacos. Spice selection ain't to shabby either. They have a barrel with mismatched bottled bears marked individually if you want to try out some unique beers. The soup bar offers an excellent Lentil soup and also the Coconut Curry is decent. Our family loves Barons Market and their friendly employees. Plenty of fresh, healthy and delicious food to choose from and at very reasonable prices. The soups are and salad bars are very convenient and provide at least one meal a week to our very busy family of five. I'm a little surprised to see other reviews mentioning that their costs are high. I seem to spend less and get more here than at Albertsons. Lovely store :) Lots of good stuff, I would say its somewhere between Sprouts (as in it is better than Sprouts) and Whole foods (not as extensive as Whole Foods) It is also def. better than Harvest Ranch in El Cajon since Harvest Ranch got sold. So it really is a good option for gourmet foods. Fresh produce etc. I love the lady in back making recipes and handing out the recipe, be nice to her, she is a keeper!! :) read more

Barons has a really good gluten free selection and great produce - my two major requirements from a grocery store. They also carry a lot of the cleaning and beauty brands that I like and can't always find at major supermarkets. I'm really glad they have a location here. read more

Today was my first visit to Baron's Market. It's an amazing store. Everything's organic and the selection is wonderful. It's a bit pricey but well worth it. VERY nice market. Reminds me of a combination of Trader Joe's and Whole Foods in all the best ways. I loved the olive bar, the soup selection is amazing (you really should get an olive roll to go with!) and the salad bar selection had some delicious and unique items like pickled baby sweet red peppers and baby heirloom tomatoes. I went with a friend who is a beer connoisseur of sorts and he said they have one of the best beer selections around. I wish they had more organic produce, but they did have HUGE organic fuji apples for 97 cents (not a sale and they were this price two weeks ago too). I will give them credit for having organic kiwi! I would say the rest of the prices are decent considering the value. read more

This is a very convient store for healthy foods, seeing as I live in alpine, right down the road from it. The staff is usually very friendly and welcoming. They recently changes their hours to 7am until 8pm. Today was my first-time there when they first opened their doors, at 7am, due to needing to grab some of their exceptionally delicious potatoe salad, for my lunch today. I was very disappointed to not only have to wait until 7:03am for them open the doors, but then to not greet me, even after the fact that I said good morning to the older gentleman, who initially unlocked the doors, I believe was the manager. This will be my LAST attempt to visit their store when they first open in the mornings, seeing as how grumpy the actual manager of the shift was and the look of unhappiness to want to be there that early! Your REGULAR customers depend on your staff to be and maintain a positive attitude and shopping environment for them, and I must say of how disgusted I was!! read more

I normally shop at Trader Joes but was visiting my parents and made a stop at the Alpine store last Sunday. I have to say I love the store layout and selection, everything looked fresh and prices were reasonable. I also love that they offer a good amount of gluten free options. I had some questions about some of the flours and was pleasantly surprised when the supervisor Kimberly, took the time to help me out. I ended up stocking up on some additional pantry items because she told me about some reputable brands that I hadn't heard of. Overall I applaud Barons for hiring knowledgable and friendly staff that actually have a passion for quality food and ingredients. Although I wish I lived closer, I will definitely be back based on my experience during my last visit. read more

The best thing that happened to Alpine in a long time! I am a gluten-free vegetarian and have to not look no further than my own backyard in Alpine to find everything I need under one roof and it's affordably priced as well. My favorite place to shop in Alpine! I do much of my grocery shopping for my family here. Their regular prices, particularly on produce, milk, and eggs, are cheaper than the large grocery store in town, and the quality is often better. The small store makes it easy to get my shopping done quickly. My kids actually like coming shopping with me at Barons, especially when there are samples out to try! I go here nearly every day (it's a 5-minute trip for me), and I've read all the reviews- in an attempt to post a fair review. baron's market is somewhat smaller than the daniel's market it replaced, but it is considerably more upscale- that's the direction alpine is moving towards- deal with it or go down the hill to el cajon or el centro (if you're driving a considerable distance from the east) and you'll see plenty of dogs at those stores as well. it's just not fair to give a place a bad review because people want to shop there with their dog- that happens everywhere you go. speaking of ice cream- baron's brand ice cream is excellent- I love the vanilla cuz it reminds me of the real deal you make at home. the salad bar is excellent- if you go there after lunch, it can seem like a food-fight just happened. again- that is par for the course for any food store. it's unrealistic to expect store personnel to follow each and every person or group through the salad bar to clean up after them- get a clue! the sample bar at the back of the store is a nice feature not found in very many food stores. the samples usually consist of an entree, sides, drinks, snacks, and desserts. come on, who else does that? it's a small store and can get crowded at lunch and evening rush hours, yet this seems to be when I see the most dogs 'n kids in there. people are going to do what they want to do. speaking of kids, the staff is friendly and they really go out of their way to treat kids right. there's even gummies and other candy samples just for them! (they must be with a responsible person- this is only common sense as the staff doesn't want children consuming stuff they aren't supposed to have or may be allergic to). it's unfortunate there is no sprouts store here in alpine (or any other town this small, for that matter), I, too, like sprouts and know there's a lot of things they sell that you simply have to drive to la mesa or santee for- not a big deal. you'll prolly be driving down there for some other reason, anyway. BTW, the produce is right on par with what you would find at any large grocery store- including sprouts. not fair to compare this little market with a store with big bucks backing it like sprouts. sprouts pays their workers slave wages compared to what baron's emps are paid... and you can see the difference in customer service and cleanliness of the stores. it's no surprise that sprouts stocks and sells stuff you would never see at a small store like baron's and it's not fair to make a direct comparison to that end. the prices are a bit higher on many items- I try not to try bread and baked goods here for that reason, but the stuff you need to buy often like milk, eggs, ICE CREAM, and meal side dishes are competitively-priced. let's give this tiny store some credit, where credit is due! I think baron's has more than lived up to its expectations for the people of alpine and we are lucky to have them. TM read more

2.5 stars. This used to be my 100% go to for produce in Alpine. But over the last 4 months their quality has significantly dropped in fresh produce, mostly their fruits. It's so hard to find good size fresh in-season fruits. They're all so small and overripe--as if they have been sitting too long. Everything else is ok there minus their produce--it's too bad. I've tried to reach out to management about it. Maybe they need to check their vendors. Hopefully they improve, otherwise I have to unfortunately stick to Albertsons or somewhere else in town. Hope they step it up and get better quality produce! I love our local Barons. read more
