This is my new Vons and Costco. I still go to the other two but not as much as here. My daughter works close by and it's convenient for me to bring her a quick lunch when I'm in a rush. I also purchased Bokchoy, ramen noodles and red curry paste and chili oil to make a spicy curry ramen and wow! Fell in love with the selection of this market, but has a little room for improvement and it would go from very good to excellent! The selection is phenomenal! their produce section is great! its not huge, but has anything and everything you could need. I came here for the deli. When my teens are on break, I like to get them deli ready to eat meals because they eat all day, and I rather them eat something healthy instead of just junky snacks. So deli's are a HUGE deal for me. Their refrigerated deli section was good. Great selection, with lots of different options. My sons picked out just about every single different kind of sandwich that they have amongst other items, and both said they were very good. We did do some additional grocery shopping, and I can honestly say the selection of products is TOP NOTCH! A few things that left me hoping were better: - Their warm food section, it looked sad, we went just shortly in the afternoon and everything looked very dry, like it had been sitting out all day. So maybe if they had a better temperature control and display to protect the food from drying out would entice people to buy some, I observed a few other customers walk up to the warm food, look around and walk away, so we weren't the only ones. - The soup station was also pretty underwhelming, none of the soups available that day sound appetizing. Not sure if they rotate the soups on different days, but we went on a sunday and didn't get any of them - Employees, these are the heart of your store. I LOVE when a store hires youth, and a good amount of employees seemed to be teenagers, and this is amazing because they need that work experience, I do however, believe that they do need to get a little bit more of training and explaining on products, we did ask for a specific brand, and the young lady said "we don't carry that" and while true, she didn't offer a substitute, not sure if it wasn't because she didn't know what the substitute was, or just lack of training on solving customers requests, I did find a substitute on my own and turned out to be a lot better than the brand I was searching for. So just a little tip. Outside of that, the market is amazing, its clean, well organized, the employees are very courteous, and afterall we did get what we came here for! read more

This is a really good local market in the Eastlake Chula Vista community located in the Otay Ranch mall. I really enjoy their soup collection especially their clam chowder! The prices are reasonable. I love coming here when I can, just wish they had the chicken dumpling soup everyday. The corn bread is delicious, i like that they were selling halves of pies, dont need the whole pie. Normally I really love everything about Barons they have great organic produce at a decent price. I also really love their mac and cheese! I normally buy my coconuts from here but recently they have changed how they are storing them and they are rotting so fast I can't even drink them. For some reason they have been storing them in ice, which is bad for the coconut because the water makes them rot. They need to be dry and cool because they have been previously husked. I wouldn't recomend buying ones you can't open and see because they may be bad. I hope they change this soon, otherwise I would buy them elsewhere. read more

Great place to shop for groceries! The variety is vast and everything is fresh. The store stands by its high quality of products. I recently purchased chili and when I got home, discovered it was not up to par as usual. I called the store and spoke with Stephanie about the quality and she immediately offered for me to come back so I could replace it (with a different soup). She was extremely helpful and gracious. Patrick helped check me out when I finished shopping and I got credit for the chili. Excellent customer service, which I was expecting but cautious about receiving it. I had no reason to worry. Baron's market in Otay Ranch is a nice upscale market. The place is clean and well organized. Thumbs up on the following: Olive bar, sour bar, wine selection, hard cider selection, frozen food, cheeses. While not a thumbs down, needs more organic selection.... this is getting better over time and craft bread could improve. Baron's is nearly on par with Jimbo's in Del Mar for orgaization and appearance, but falls short in organic selection. It beats Frazier Farns for appearance and it nearly equal in organic. Ever since we bought this doormat for our camper, on sale for next to nothing, stating " Hope you brought pie", we have had a hankering for pie. We are not locals. We wanted a good pie. After learning that Denny's does not sell whole baked pies or they were out, we left disappointed. Hubby asked a gentleman waiting to enter Denny's and asked if he was from around here. He said Yes. When my husband asked where can you get the best pie around here, the man said with a lift of enthusiasm in his voice, Baron's Market. It is across the street. Get the Julian apple pie. We will, we said. Off we went, with smiles on our faces, to Baron's market. When we entered, I was impressed. We knew we were going to go wine tasting, so we bought snacks for that as well. They sell the Julian pies frozen or fresh near the counter. Here is what we bought @ Barons: 2 fresh rolls- Hubby had Jalapeno Cheese. I think I bought the Rosemary roll. They were individually wrapped and only .25 cents each. Had I have known how delicious they were, I would have bought a lot more. Gouda Cheese - $5.38 Whip Cream - $2.98 A soft Wensleydale cheese with Cranberries - $2.99 A Julian, from the town of Julian, Apple Pie - $14.99 Wow!! Everything was delicious. The employees were helpful and kind. 2 customers, not together, made friendly banter about the pies. I wish we had Baron's Market in Ventura. My advice is to shop local when you can. I stopped in Baron's to pick up a few items and a sandwich for lunch. I had the "Turkey Provolone Pesto Cibatta Sandwich" and a small bag of chips. It was a good sandwich. It came with a good amount of sliced turkey and pesto. I like that they put two slices of Provolone Cheese. The bread was tasty, but since the sandwich was refrigerated, it was a little dry. Also, it would be nice if they would add a small amount of pesto sauce in a tiny container on the side, like they did with the grape tomatoes. The employees in the store were helpful and nice. They offer a melee of fresh sandwiches packaged to go which they make daily. The store was very clean and well organized. read more

Me and my wife wanted to try out this new market that opened up in our shopping area and were excited to give it a shot. The location is at the Otay Mall area between Chili's and Party City. Parking is vast of course since it's located in the mall and it's easy to find. Once walking in you are quickly greeted to friendly smiles and with everything going on there is an employee up front with hand sanitizer and sprays to clean the carts. Once inside you see a bright colorful market place feel. And fresh produce and organic groceries all around. Each isle has something of interest for everyone, from the vegetables, to the Soups, to the variety of Wines & Beers, to the drinks. Everything seems to be healthy and delicious. The prices all around are reasonable and the food is delicious! So if you are ever in the area and want to take a look at this amazing business at this great location, than I highly recommend it! read more

We went on Saturday. There is still a limit to how many shoppers can enter. They did provide sanitized carts and hand sanitizer up front, along with tents so customers aren't standing in the sun waiting outside. The shopping atmosphere here is pretty calming. I think it was the mix of lighting and lots of pretty green house plants! I love plants so I was excited to see they had a nice selection.. There are different sections to the store, obviously your standard produce, meats, salad bar with pre-packed salads, wine and alcohol etc. Lots of craft beers! They also had a juicer where you can come in and juice your own oranges for fresh juice! And an "oil" bar where you can package your own oils. Pretty neat! Prices were decent.. Definitely looking forward to shopping here once it calms down a bit since this is now the closest grocery store to my house! Yay. read more

Got a chance to check this Barons location out. I've been to a few of these stores in town and they all are clean and pretty much the layout is the same. At the time I stopped in it was fairly quiet without much of a crowd so I was able to shop and move about freely. They have some organic stuff you can't find anywhere else. I bought an iced coffee here with MCT oil, barely any sugar, and low in calories. I was also able to pick up some high quality cheese, and some tasty potato chips. All brands you wouldn't find in the other chain stores in town. The downside is their products are usually a bit more expensive but you also are getting what you pay for. read more

A solid grocery store that is ingredient-accommodating and diet-friendly is exactly what this area needed if you ask me! While I enjoy spending precious time in grocery stores for general snackage, Barons is one of those grocery stores that's puts into perspective the power of ingredients. There is a section/aisle for all diets, cravings and fads, whether a you're a practicing plant-based eater or a bread + oil connoisseur. As someone who has experimented with different eating lifestyles such as keto and plant-based, Barons definitely opens my mind to the many options there are to accommodate your cravings according to your eating preferences. I've never seen so many forms of beyond meat! Lol. And I've been put on to some new and healthier snack options just walking through the chips/bakery aisle. That being said, I absolutely LOVED the free brownies they were offering during opening week and now I salivate every time I walk by them in-store. Some of my other favorite sections are the beer section (local favorites on deck), the ice cream section (don't sleep on Oatmilk pb and j ice cream), and the coffee section (they serve Super Coffee, one of my new favorites). How have I never been introduced to this beautiful grocery store? My friend and I stopped in after getting dinner at Rubio's for taco Tuesday and were so pleased at the selection here. From produce, to live plants, to birthday cards they really seemed to have a little bit of everything. It was like a smaller more curated Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. We got some cold pressed waters, kombucha, and snacks to get us through the next shift at work and checked out. The lines were not long and the people working here were friendly. Parking was readily available right out front - and I loved the location and brightly lit aisles. All in all a lovely experience in a nice new space that is not crowded. read more

I was thinking... great... another Whole Foods spot with all these healthy crossfit people, all these suburban recipe, no name brand having stores, artisanal bread and other crap, special meats and salads, kombucha drinking nerds, fancy coffee... wait wait wait coffee?!..... Yeah coffee. Mmmm. Mmmm. Hmmm. So yes they are all these things, but they are great! The people, the service, the food, the produce. It's all good. Some stuff is a little on the pricey end but you what man?! It's not as packed as Walmart, Vons or Albertsons, so I'll gladly pay the extra buck for dollar oats.
