Friendly service and fresh meats... love coming here and being treated like family. Convenient with reasonable prices

I've been coming to this liquor market for over 15 years, mainly because they sell meat, and I've always brought my small Yorkie with me -- leashed, clean, and well-behaved. I've never had an issue until today. When I walked in, a female employee with colored eyes and curly hair repeatedly said "Hola" instead of greeting me in English, assuming I speak Spanish, which I found rude and presumptuous. When she finally told me in English that dogs aren't allowed, I was shocked because it's never been a problem before. Honestly, this store isn't the cleanest. so my dog is probably cleaner than the floors. I told her they're losing a loyal customer -- after 15 years of spending my money here, I'll be taking my business to Apple Tree instead. Not dog friendly!! read more

I have always came to this market and it's always great. Employees are nice and friendly, snacks, meat, and vegetables are always stocked. They also have my favorite mexican snacks! Last time i went, i was with my niece. We were paying for had and once we did, the cashier offered my niece a candy from a box, just being nice. I remembered when i was a teen, they used to give me candy too, i guess they're still doing that lol. read more

This place is truly a neighborhood GEM! I stopped in today to get some eggs and saw that they make their own chorizo so decided to try it out. The chorizo was so lean and flavorful which is usually my hesitation with chorizo because it's usually SO greasy. This was a delicious add to our scrambled eggs this morning. Also the family that runs the market is SO friendly so that's a bonus! read more

My cousin told me about this little market sometime ago ... maybe a year ago and decided to give it a try this past weekend and oh my WORD !!!! Hands down the best meat I have tasted. I send my son to purchase meat for me so I can't tell you what place looks like inside. Purchased marinated " paleta" and marinated " Arrachera " ... both were delicious... paleta was thin and tender and Arrachera was a bit thicker but also tender ... I always purchase Arrachera for grilling but I may now start buying " paleta" cut which was very tasty. Meat was tender , tasty and juicy !!! I 100% recommend that you give this place a try... it's a market in old chula vista so don't expect for it to look modern ... just don't judge book by its cover, if u want well prepared meet then go purchase it at this market... my guest loved it ... oh and kudos for great customer service =) I will be back soon ! read more

Love this spot I stumbled across it when I was driving home from work and decided to stop by and check it out. Then came back again bc I saw their meat. This is the best market in this area. It's small but it's so well stocked always have what I need. The staff is fantastic so polite and a joy to talk with. Their fresh made salsas and guacamole is to die for. Fresh veggies and meats are great and "fresh". I love this place. read more

Best meat , the bacon and carne asada preparada are personal favorites !! Staff is super friendly and helpful, they're very kind to my son and always give him a lollipop, I pop in here every couple days to buy little items for cooking but they have household items too!! Not usually someone who posts reviews for corner markets, but this one is honestly almost a selling point for our neighborhood in itself. Everyone who works here is friendly and always has a moment to say hey to my five-year old and ask how she's doing. Great tortillas and locally sourced eggs and pastries. So this place looks like an old gas station turned marketplace... and that's exactly what it is... what makes it great is the family that owns this place. When you check out you'll see pictures of a cute lil baby boy at 1 month, 2 months, 3months... 1 year. You'll see mom at the register, son at the meat department, and daughter fixing up the isles. THE FACTS: * The selection is pretty good. * The prices are a little higher than those large-chain-small-pop-shop-killers-with-a big-W-at-the-beginning-of-their-name but it's expected from a small business. * The family is always there, working hard, and smiling at you as you come through that the door. They'll even offer to help you carry out your bags if they see you have a bit more than you'd be comfortable carrying on your own. * Their produce is pretty good with an excellent variety. * The meat department has good meats. Ask them to marinate it for you. The last time I was there I was looking for chicken for my lentejas. They offered to cut off the fat and chop it up for me. Thank goodness!!! I hate handling meat. The first time I cut through a whole chicken to chop it down to smaller sizes, I cried as I broke through the cartilage. Let's not talk about the part where I had to take out the guts. This is just a tiny little market on the corner of Hilltop and Orange. They have a decent meat counter for their size as well as a varied grocery area. This is the convenient little neighborhood stop when you need to get something quick and you don't want to drive to a chain store. Used to be named "Our Store" Thank God it no longer is! This store is seriously my neighbor! I live right next to it! They have great meat for Carne Asada and warm tortillas. Their prices are really good and the staff is great! Shout out to Sammy and David the twins!!! It's a family owned business which makes it awesome! The whole family works there. Great family owned business. As small as the store is they always seem to have what I'm looking for. I'm not sure how they fit it all. The meat department and ready-to-eat foods are particularly nice and all of the staff are super friendly and helpful. On the weekends there are usually vendors in the parking lot selling tamales among other things. Shopping here not only supports a local business but it helps you to avoid the crowds (and high prices) of stores such as Ralphs and Vons. read more

I've been living in the area since 2010 and I gotta say, I have never felt welcomed the way I feel at this market, I was 16 when I started coming here for hot cheetos and candy, currently im 24 and I still come here for the same thing haha with the exception of my mikes harders lemonades. But this is what true customer service is about, being able to chat without feeling rushed and never being looked down upon. I like small family owned businesses. The only things I buy here are usually 10 lb. bags of potatoes for 1.99 and also steaks. The steaks are hit or miss. If you can some nice marbled ones they are a great deal. Rib eyes can be as low at 7.99 which is a very good deal. The hamburger prices are also very good and flavorful. Really a nice little family business that is convenient since I live very close and can pick up stuff at a moments notice. read more

This place is a total little hole in the wall, but my goodness they have awesome meat and chicken for grilling! We've been buying all of our carne asada here ever since northgate decided it wouldn't give me carne preparada anymore. They also have 2 kinds of AWESOME marinated chicken.
