Although sometimes, they do not seem to have any etiquette when pulling up to the beaches on the island. The take the whole beach, so no one else can access the shoreline. It is a heck of a lot easier to move a Kayak than to manoeuvre a boat. I have personally seen this on numerous occassions. If East Coast Outfitters is reading this, please remember, some people lived here long before you started your business here. Please respect this, so everyone can enjoy the great outdoors, share the beach line, don't hog!

Bayswater goes one step further and also gives you warm water! Well, water as warm as the Atlantic ocean can provide. It's not bone chilling and you don't have to numb your whole body before you can swim around. I was surprised at how warm it really was. It's a bit of a drive from Halifax, but that just means not everyone is going to be committed enough to drive out to it. Therefore, the beach isn't packed! I think it might be one, if not my favourite beach in Nova Scotia.

Bought two nights at the Ovens but left after one night because of the rude actions of the manager…read moreJane who was upset that we bought our firewood outside the camp at the local gas station and it was our mistake that we did not read the rules about fire and we had a fire going in the morning, her employee said nicely that he was going to get water to put it out and we apologized but five minutes after he left to get water she came speeding into our campsite yelling at us! Asking us if we had a bucket to put it out?! We explained that her employee was bringing water she proceeded to yell about fire wood and then speeded off. We packed up and left. I believe that there are better ways to talk to people without hostility especially in front of children!

You…read morecan choose to stay on the 103 for the drive down the South Shore or you can opt for the scenic route along the old number 3 highway. This makes the trip a fair bit longer, but you've got some great stopping places along the way like Mahone Bay and Chester. It's not hard to find as long as you have a few simple directions easily located on Google Maps. Once you arrive you will find ample parking and well maintained facilities for changing, etc. and a canteen. The beach is lovely and stretches quite far. I always find the water quite warm and there are few rocks or seaweed. A great place to go for a day out of the hustle and bustle of the city. On your way out check out the beach across the road, it's pretty cool because you can drive your car right onto the beach. I have yet to try this, but often admire from the road as we leave. I always come back through La Have as it is a really nice scenic drive. This is one of Nova Scotia's gems not to be missed.

The 18 hole golf course is on the high end of golf. Approx. $70 for green fees. I love a good walk, and this course offers one of the best. 4-5 hours Although the cart rental is average priced, and worth it if it is hot out. One of the most scenic shorelines in Nova Scotia, always sail boats, and other marine action to see. The club house offers a great outdoor patio with exceptional views of the area. The food has never let me down and the service is always fantastic. I typically get the fish and chips and love it. Whether you are in for a round of golf, or just want a great meal with fabulous views this is your place.

It's located 40-45 minutes outside of Halifax. This is a tent, trailer and RV friendly location (although I'm not sure they have any pull through sites). There are 95 spots available (combined). Open May 18 - Oct 8 Wifi is available at the main entrance and surroundings areas. Will not reach to most of the park. This park has some amazing spots. None are right on the water, but a lot of them have some wonderful ocean views! There are flush toilets and free hot showers in the main bathhouse near the entrance. Vault toilets are located throughout the remainder of the park. You can bring one vehicle to your campsite. You must pay for any additional vehicles you bring with you to your site. You can leave any spare vehicle at the main entrance for free. There are many walking trails in and around this campground. The town of Chester is a 5 minute drive away where you can get supplies. Graves Island is a jewel in the crown of Nova Scotia provincial parks. Located just outside of…read moreChester, Graves Island offers several attractions. For the daytripper, there are picnic grounds, a playground for the kiddos, walking trails, kite-flying fields and a tiny beach. Not much beats hanging out on a quilt under your beach umbrella while the kiddos bounce in the shallow waves. If you're planning a multi-day stay, the campground offers many amenities that have been upgraded in recent years. A modern wash-house offers hot showers and flush toilets - a real improvement! Campsites are generous and mostly secluded, allowing you to enjoy nature without being on top of your neighbour. Costs are reasonable, although regulations have tightened up in the last few years. Don't let that stop you, though - Graves Island truly has to be experienced to be believed.
