The women's locker room was well appointed with plenty of lockers , showers, changing areas and restrooms. The couples massage and facial were both excellent, and our service providers were professional, friendly, and well trained. My only complaint is that the spa also offers workout classes and while I think this is wonderful, the fact that I can hear the classes while I am inside of the relaxation lounge does not help me relax . The noise from the classes distracts from the peaceful ambience.

SCAM! I am absolutely disgusted with how Exhale Spa handled this. I purchased a $300 gift card…read moreafter speaking directly with one of their sales representatives over the phone, who actively promoted a gift card discount and encouraged me to take advantage of it. I decided to splurge because of that promotion. She even specifically told me about their Tuesday-Thursday discounted spa/facial rate of $172 instead of the regular $215 price. What she conveniently failed to disclose was that Exhale then forces customers to pay a mandatory 20% gratuity calculated on the FULL price of the service, plus another 5% facility fee--and I was told that I CANNOT EVEN USE MY $300 GIFT CARD TO PAY THESE MANDATORY CHARGES. They do not even allow you to leave a cash tip. So Exhale was perfectly happy to take from me while promoting their discounted services, but somehow neglected to mention the additional mandatory charges I would have to pay out of pocket in order to actually use the gift card for those services. Apparently this is buried in the fine print on their website. Had this been disclosed to me, I NEVER would have purchased the gift card. I asked for a refund because I cannot afford these services once all of these undisclosed mandatory charges are added on top. Instead of acknowledging how misleading this was, manager Kayla actually left me a voicemail suggesting I could use my $300 gift card to buy skincare products instead. Are you kidding me? I did not spend $300 on SPA gift card because I wanted $300 worth of skincare products. I bought it specifically to receive spa services based on the pricing their own representative quoted to me. This entire experience feels incredibly deceptive. If customers are required to pay substantial additional fees out of pocket that their gift card cannot even cover, that should be disclosed clearly BEFORE taking hundreds of dollars from them--not hidden in fine print and revealed only when they try to book. I feel completely misled and scammed. The refusal to refund me after the circumstances were explained only makes this worse. I would never recommend Exhale Spa or any of their locations after this experience. Customers deserve transparency before handing over their money.

The workout was challenging for a beginner, but not impossible. I was able to do about 70% of the exercises (I had spine surgery and don't have full mobility). Plus, all the equipment is provided to you! The biggest con was the overall energy of the class. The music was very poppy and loud, which I didn't love. The instructor also wore a microphone headset, which was VERY hard to hear at times over the music. For a beginner, it was difficult to follow along at times. The class I took was more "peppy" (think: "and lift! and lift!" cues), which isn't exactly my jam. I would have probably tried another class here, but the receptionist told me that this location is unfortunately closing soon.

PB was great to adapt to Covid, from reducing class size early on to quickly offering livestream classes. They initially offered livestream class through Facebook, and then set up its own website for recorded sessions. I've enjoyed the flexibility with livestream, especially I could take classes with instructors who I don't normally get a chance to! While I have been comfortable taking livestream sessions since Covid, it's only because I had plenty of in-studio experience, especially with modifications. I'd recommend anyone who is comfortable with going to studio take it in-person as opposed to virtual. The only thing is I wish the livestream is offered through Zoom. I talked to the instructors and inquired about Zoom as an option. However, because the class is so music driven, it's hard to get the correct microphone feedback over Zoom. The Boston studio is also located on the second floor of a building, slightly more tucked away than the Harvard Square location. It has two individual bathrooms and one changing room. Plenty of locker space and equipment for all. Before the pandemic, I've been here a bunch of times since you can take classes either at the harvard location or here. Now, you can take classes from any of the three locations: Brookline, Boston, or Harvard Square. Different instructors have different styles, and it will take you some time to find what's best for you. Angela is definitely popular here. I took two classes with Fiona, and loved her! I love Amanda, and am glad she is here temporarily for this summer! If you are brand new to barre, it will take you at least a week or so to fully adapt to its rhythms. The good news is they offer free Foundations class for new members, or you can always check out the intro class on YouTube to get a better idea on what to expect. The membership is not cheap, but comparable to other professionally owned gym or barre studios. They have membership sale from time to time (e.g., new membership for $99 for 3 months or 20% off of lifestyle membership), so definitely keep an eye on its marketing emails or social media and take advantage of that. I'd also recommend check with your work or insurance to see if you can get any partial reimbursement on fitness membership. Some other tips: 1. There is a 4-hour cancellation window, after that you will have to pay a late cancellation fee. If you are unsure of your schedule, you can always sign up at the last minute (if there is still room for the class). Also, be sure you are early or on time. Typically, you may be turned away if you are more than 5 - 7 minutes late for class, for safety reasons. 2. While some poses are hard, don't be afraid to modify them. Personally, I find myself better off without the weights for the weight section from time to time just to get the form right. Form over heavy lifting, as always. 3. Wear long pants! For top, I see a variety of sports bras or tank tops. While shorts are allowed, it is not recommended. Better with capri or 7/8 or full pants. Also, you can wear regular socks, but may find plank or other positions challenging. Most people have Pure Barre sticky socks (which I think is now $18 a pair). You can buy sticky socks on Amazon for a cheaper price.

Particularly, people of color or those who are not direct friends of the staff have reported on more than one occasion that they are not treated with the same level of hospitality. This is disappointing considering it is the only studio in this area. When people are consistently ignored when they say "hi" or "bye" and others notice, there is a cultural issue.

Here is why I won't be going back to the studio - it was raining when I walked in, put my umbrella in the yoga mat bag, then shoes in shoe cubby then coat in top. Told front desk lady (who again could not be any less interested). Walked out of the class and some member moved everything to the other cubby zone - THIS UNACCEPTABLE! No one told me, no one stopped her. Why is someone touching my stuff and making a decision on where to move thing, when I specifically told front desk lady (who said nothing) that's that's where my stuff will be as otherwise I will likely forget the umbrella (that's why I put it in the yoga mat bag). No one asked for permission this other lady attending the class just made a decision to move without asking without announcing. I was asking where my stuff is when I walked out of the class, front desk lady had no idea. Again completely unacceptable - no one touches someone else's stuff without announcement or permission to do so! Especially post covid!

The mom and baby classes are excellent - there's yoga on Tuesdays and barre on Thursdays and the instructors are terrific. Very relaxed classes, no big deal if baby cries or you need to nurse, etc. They also have special classes and series regularly, which is nice. Very accessible on the 92 or 93 bus line (runs downtown - Haymarket to financial district - to/from Charlestown). Not the cheapest - $20 for a drop-in. But I think it's worth it.

There's a sense of attentiveness throughout the studio that I really appreciate--especially with all the current conversations happening around inclusivity in Pilates spaces. Now, for the real talk: Communication They do say on their website that email is the best way to reach them, and they mean it. Calling is... hit or miss.
