Austin is so fortunate to have three Barre3 studios in town. The Circle C location opened earlier in the year and boasts a larger studio with more barre space. Like the downtown location, it's open, fresh, and clean with an airy feel from the large windows. Barre3 is truly a great concept as it combines strength training, light cardio, and stretching into an ab burning, muscle building, challenging class! There are always options to tailor to your own level and all the instructors encourage you to "honor your body". That being said, they totally motivate you to push your limits and get the most out of the course. I've been to classes taught by Aurora and Laine and both were fantastic! You will leave feeling energized, empowered, and healthy- you can't top that!

I took the 8:30 am Barre class with Layne Bruner and I have to say that she's the best Barre instructor I've ever had!! No joke....she needs to be BARRE INSTRUCTOR OF THE CENTURY. I've taken Barre all over Austin and no one has been as attentive as her. There were about 15 of us in class and I felt like the only one b/c of the personalized attention she gave to each of us. She taught with enthuisiam and passion. It was refreshing to see. She gave detailed and clear instruction on each move. It allowed me to deepen and strengthen my practice. I burned 600 calories in 60 minutes. I also appreciated all these modifications she gave and taught for each pose. It especially helped with my left knee since I've had a precious injury. Now for the rest of the studio... The front desk girl is extremely friendly. She's very personable and makes you feel welcomed. That's important b/c I was on a class pass and I didn't feel like I was less equal than their full paying members. The studio is crazy cute and had tons of parking. All the ladies have been fantastic so far. Not too pretentious!! They also offer child care, which is cool. I don't have a little one, but I do love seeing them running around and all the mommies coming in with their babies. They have a huge class selection as well. Besides the studio, I just can't get over how awesome Layne was. She should teach teachers how to teach. Try her and see for yourself. xoxo - AM

When pregnant, as required, I signed the studio's pregnancy waiver and had a walk-through with an instructor on how to properly modify movements. I've been following those modifications safely and consistently. During a class, I quietly adjusted certain exercises to pregnancy-safe variations. Instead of pulling me aside or checking in privately, the instructor stopped class and asked me -- in front of the entire room -- why I was doing something different. She then directly asked me if I was pregnant, putting me on the spot to disclose something very personal that I had not chosen to share publicly yet. This was extremely uncomfortable and unnecessary. The studio already had my waiver on file, and I had been trained by another instructor on modifications. Pregnancy is a private matter, and calling it out to a room full of strangers is unprofessional and disrespectful. I want to emphasize that I take responsibility for my own safety and modifications -- and I appreciate instructors who are attentive. But there is a right way to handle member privacy, and this was absolutely the wrong way. If you're considering Club Pilates and value discretion, be aware that your personal health information may not be treated with the sensitivity you'd expect.

K, I'm a bit biased: I, myself, was a PT at STAR for 10 years. But, I'm a patient right now: bicipital tendinitis developed as a result of shoulder impingement/rotator cuff arthropathy. I couldn't use my arm worth squat, constant pain, and intense pain with attempted use. What I had tried/done failed. Grew very discouraged/depressed: Husband asked me when I was going to DO something about it (& stop complaining, lol). Saw my doc: He offered an injection, but I said, "PT first please, and I want to go to STAR." (don't want injections to jeopardize the integrity of my tendons, and STAR PT "only"!). Yes, a PT may need another PT to lift one up, illuminate the path, and lead the way to success! Highlighting Anthony for his awesomeness! I specifically requested Anthony because he was the only one who didn't "know me." I know the other therapists, and they are all excellent. In this case personally, I wanted to be "led" unbiasedly: without any consideration/assumption that I "should know" this or that since the others "know" I'm a PT. Visits 1 & 2 proved to me why you see a PT before injections/surgery: immediate positive impact! I experienced a set-back after the visit 3 - of the exact same nature as to why I was unsuccessful when I tried to rehab myself. Anthony got me past this in ways that I'd never thought of! Week 3: still progressing, and Anthony increased focus on other components of my body to ensure long-term success (YES, core/pelvic/hip/leg exercises for my shoulder problem!). 8th visit/re-evaluation: 80+% better! Able to swim freestyle without problems over 4th of July holidays, pain is SO much less (I can handle intermittent dull aching), I no longer hesitate to use my arm (though it's still quite weak), and I'm now asking questions about working out! Anthony is so awesome: He listens, instructs, educates, set goals, and puts the plan into place. Though (as a PT) I think I could "take over" independently at this point, I'm continuing because I want to return to 100% and want him to keep leading me to ensure success. I started a version of push-ups (um, 7 visits ago, this thought was ludicrous)! Anthony reviewed other activities/gym exercises to try (or avoid), reminded me of needed rest/recovery periods and signs of when to back-off/stop. I don't know if I'll need to update this review when I am 100%, because I'm now feeling like nothing's going to stop me from reaching my goals! & Yes, should I experience any "hiccup" from this point forward, Anthony will bring me beyond it (full confidence), but this is why I'm still going to STAR PT!
