Our favorite local spot for a great selection of beers on tap. Barrel & Stave has amazing variety of beers and Chris is a knowledgeable and friendly guy who is so fun to chat with. Love their new location at Jaxon's. Great vibe, family friendly and fun local spot to hang out. This is our weekly spot to bring the family for dinner and a beer!

The restaurant Jaxon's that they share space with doesn't just have chicken strips and sandwich, you gotta try the Truffle burger and chicken taquitos too!

The ingredients were basil pine nut pesto, garlic, ricotta, and red chili flakes. The New York-style slices (thin crust) were big, and we had four each. You order in front, and the food gets delivered to your table. There's also a big iced water dispenser available. Note that they have a three-percent surcharge for paying on a credit card. It gets expectedly loud due to the karaoke, but you can get to hear some experienced singers. It's fun as the whole restaurant can get involved at times. On a Thursday night, you may have some difficulty finding parking close by if not utilizing public transit. However, with Downtown Fullerton's many options for free parking, you can get here on a short walk.

The music was a vibe and the decor is fun and different, it's giving man cave vibes meets arcade. I ordered the pepperoni pizza and a Caesar salad. They have a good selection of American food, and I ordered chicken risotto ($24) from the "favorites" section of the menu. Portion sizes here are good, and we were very full after dinner. Service here was basic, and we got everything we needed. Friday night is also a peak time at Downtown Fullerton, so it was hard to find parking spot. However, the ambience here was relaxed. While the chicken risotto was pricy, I enjoyed the mixed flavors and large portion size. The flavor came from the caper-parmesan beurre blanc sauce. It's a slightly creamy butter sauce with mild sweetness and added flavor from white wine. The capers added a very welcome tangy and savory seasoning to the sauce; they're one of my favorite garnishes. The flavors from the breaded chicken and risotto weren't too strong. However, I would've liked the dish more with if they put less parmesan because I enjoyed the flavor from the beurre blanc sauce the most.

The highlight was definitely the atmosphere. They had multiple TVs throughout the restaurant, which made watching the World Cup easy and fun. The servers were also friendly, attentive, and professional, so I have no complaints about the service. Unfortunately, the food and drinks just didn't do it for me. There are better spots in the area, so I probably wouldn't come back.

This is one of my favorite places to come in Fullerton with friends, or to bring my wife on a date…read more Their patio is dog friendly, which is nice for pet owners. Ambience on the inside as well as the outside are both pretty great. I've also never had a bad meal here, virtually all of their food is spectacular and made from scratch although their prices are not "cheap" they are also very fair, especially given the quality of food. The drinks are also dead on, they have a wide range of craft beer as well as a full bar. The service is great. The only thing I could think of the lands in the constructive arena is their live music. Sometimes they have open mic nights, other times they have a hired band or musician. The music is way, wayyy too loud. I don't mind live music, but it can't be so loud that you are unable to enjoy the company. Patrons should be able to talk to the person or the people next to them without being drowned out by the music. I recently came with friends for drinks and we were having a great time for the first 10 minutes we were there, but when the music started, we couldn't hear each other talk at all. So we just sat there quietly, drowned out to mediocre music. We all had another drink and then left. Might be a better idea to have the music loud enough to be slightly above background noise, but low enough where you can reasonably talk and listen to those around. Even ordering at the bar was tough. We would yell an order at the bartender, who would yell at back for confirmation. Often, exchanges in this dialogue included "what was that?"

The crispy rice looked and tasted interesting. These were cubes of rice packed together with the outer edges fried. The cube resembled fried tofu because the inner part was soft with rice filling. I thought the dressing was decent and complemented the salad more than the ahi tuna. This entree comes in a large portion as well. Overall, the ambience was decent inside. Since there were tables already reserved inside, the bar was the best place to watch the game. The inside dining area was relaxed as we were the only ones there for the majority of our visit. We talked a little bit with the bartender as well. I was also surprised to see some board games at one side of the restaurant. In contrast, the patio was lively, and there was someone performing music. There weren't many suitable tables to watch the match outside, so we opted for dining inside.

However, you don't always want to feel like you're trying too hard to change your scenery, bumping you too far out of your comfort zone. The answer my friends, is the good old classic American dive bar. Now, many places like to call themselves a dive bar just because they never clean a single inch of their establishment and have seedy patrons that love to play the more than occasional 80's songs on the jukebox but don't be mistaken, a good dive bar is hard to find. Well, I happen to have found one and it's in Fullerton of all places. That's right, Fullerton, not Los Angeles, nor Hollywood nor some pop-culturally over-hyped city. What makes The Blue Door a good dive bar? First, there's earned consistency & routine. The drinks won't always be made well, or the bartender won't always be attentive but if you come a few times, you'll soon know at what time and day the drinks are made properly by knowing the schedules of the bartenders. Secondly, the drinks are stiff, the service is friendly and nobody bothers you unless you bother them. The atmosphere goes from lively and loud to quiet and solitary, again depending upon when you visit. Lastly, they're open from 6:00AM-2:00AM. They're not just there when the hipsters are around, they're there for you whenever you make the bad decision of using alcohol as an anesthetic. Stay searching for the last remains of Americana my friends....

The moment we looked at the menu, it instantly reminded us of Seoul--we had just been there a week ago! One of the dishes we ordered was the stir-fried chicken gizzard, which was something we absolutely loved while in Korea. I'm happy to say it did not disappoint. The flavor was very authentic and brought back memories of our recent trip. We ordered a few other dishes as well, but the chicken gizzard was definitely the highlight of the meal. To top it all off, we were seated on the patio and ended up having a great view of the 4th of July fireworks. Good food, authentic flavors, and a nice holiday atmosphere made for a surprisingly memorable dinner.
