Absolutely LOVE this place!! I've been here at least 10 times and every single time I've had the best experience and I don't even drink! I am a vendor who comes to their vendor shows and they really are extremely nice people. The staff are so friendly and even walk around, chat with you and even purchase items from you. The brewery is always clean as well as the bathrooms. They have great food and always have food trucks as well. There is a little outside area to hang out at as well!! LOVE it here!! You must visit! They have so many fun things to do here as well. Games, pool tables and even have classes!!!! I love that they're super dog friendly as well!!!! We visit the Boston area to see family at least once a year. We really enjoy checking out breweries in the area. This was our first visit to the Barrel House Z although our family comes here often. First and foremost the beer is great. What we loved even more was the environment in which we got to enjoy are beverages. There were games for all ages and plenty of space to hang out. The staff is friendly, and accommodating. Extra shout out to the awesome bartender who let our daughters trade out their ducks from the claw machine for the bartenders. read more

We have found that the staff seems to be somewhat knowledgeable give out an overly friendly vibe from our experience. I hosted a 50th birthday at Barrel House Z and it was fantastic! Excellent communication, perfect location for a party with underage guests and even dogs! Our guests were all very pleased and comfortable. The bartenders were the most pleasant, hospitable, friendly, hardworking gentlemen who somehow managed to keep the flow going with us, plus a separate event going on and plenty of other very happy patrons! We had food catered and delivered by Tennessee BBQ in Braintree and cake delivered by Sugah Sweet Bakery in Rockland. The staff received everything for us before we got there with care and professionalism. I was treated so kindly that I was able to enjoy the gathering, which says a lot when you're planning something like this. Everything was perfect. Parents, be cautious about visiting this place. We arrived early one evening with another family and our toddlers were excited to reunite, laughing and playing together. Within three minutes, the bartender asked us to quiet our cheerful kids. Who gets mad about kids laughing together? As the evening progressed, other couples complimented how well-behaved and happy our kids were. While we always prioritize respect for other patrons, the unwelcoming response from the bartender to our children's happiness made this experience disappointing. Love this brewery. They have a lot of different types of beers, which is great when you're with people who don't like certain types of beer. They almost always have a local food truck, which I love. Come here for hand pies. The hand pies is one of the best things I ever eaten. They are flaky meat pies. The meat is perfectly tender, not dry or over cooked. The crust is nice and flakey. The beer is also good if you drink. I recommend the Belgian style. The staff is super friendly and the space is nice. It can be a bit drafty in certain places so bring a jacket. read more

Out of the beers I've had in my life there were three that I considered favorites. Now there are four... because I know you'll ask, these are: 1. Augustiner Dunkel (this is a Bavarian beer that you cannot get anywhere in Massachusetts) 2. Brooklyn Black Ops 3. Ravenwood (made by Big Alice Brewing) 4. Swear Jar (from BHZ) Number 4 was added after my visit here. What I don't like about many beers out there is that they taste like bitter carbonated water. I like my beer to taste like something other than bitter, which is the reason why I like those above, they actually taste like something. The swear jar didn't have very much, if any, of that decently unpleasant bitterness. To paraphrase and use some poetic license on the way BHZ describes it, it is a glass of Adult vanilla chocolate milk, only without the dairy. The beer had a very mild sweetness to it, and there was a hint of a deeper, flavor to it as well, like the one found in whiskey! You see, that's what makes this place so unique (and good). They age their beer for some time in barrels which used to hold spirits of various kinds. I also had the opportunity to try the Darragh. Though it didn't make my list of favorites, I still think objectively (can something be objective when it comes to taste) it was solid, at least. For a beer that has over 10lbs of honey added to it, I expected it to be sweeter. This one was a little more on the hoppy side. If you're into bunny-approved brews, then I think you'll enjoy this one. For food I was able to try both the empanadas and pretzel both of which were very fresh. The pretzel was good, but otherwise unremarkable. The empanadas though were surprisingly great. Though these were not traditional, as they were stuffed to the brim with cheese! I also loved the fact that I had a selection of sauced to go with them. I will say that it took a little while to get the food out, but since this place is a brewery, I am not complaining. The staff here was really nice, and they are always putting on events of various classes were locals and fans alike gather. Look forward to returning, and grabbing a growler of the Swear Jar (a Sear Growler?) to share with some friends. read more

I've visited this brewery in every season and it never disappoints. The staff is knowledgable and friendly so don't hesitate to ask questions and try something new. They used to have food trucks but have since opened their own kitchen. The food is really good and portions are just right. The Adeline and Tiramisu stouts are my favorites but have a wide variety. My favorite thing about BHZ is they aren't afraid to make new creations which makes them stand out. This is a great place to visit when out with friends to play games and unwind. On good weather days it can get crowded so get there early if possible. Even on busy days the wait has never been long to get served. read more

Found this local brewery which is dog friendly. The brewery was small with a good selection of beers on tap. Had a coffee blonde ale which was delicious and smelled amazing if you like coffee. I would highly recommend trying this beer. I also ordered a flight which is 3 small glasses. Their mojito sour was refreshing. They don't serve food but there was a food truck outside where I ordered nachos and truffle fries. The nachos were pretty good. The meat was tender and full of bbq flavor. The fries were alright, as there wasn't any truffle oil on the fries. It was just fries with some truffle sauce to dip in. There was a back area that had a lot of Cornhole boards and some arcade games as well. I would definitely recommend checking this place out for a fun night. read more

Maybe it was the perfect weather or the sunny blue skies... but suffice it to say, this place has one of my favorite outdoor atmospheres of all the beer gardens I've been to in the greater Boston area. I will be honest, I was a little skeptical at first when we were told that the tables were only for groups of 6 or more people, and so we had to settle for a couple of chairs... BUT the chairs were actually surprisingly comfy and had huge wide arms that worked for setting down both beers and food. It's not quite enough arm space to set down a whole feast's worth of food, but they're more about the light bites here anyways, so it ended up working out just fine. The very reclined style of the chairs made for a vibe that was best for just sitting, chilling, and relaxing. It may have been a little bit more challenging if we were with a group primarily looking to have peppy, get-to-know-you type conversations. But for my husband and I, we were looking just for a place to sit back, drink, snack, chat a little, and pretend that we have our own backyard reclining chairs... and so this place fit the bill perfectly. The pastry-wrapped sausages were DELICIOUS (loved the combination of black & white sesame seeds on the outside, and the wrapping was super flaky/buttery) and the spicy chex mix was the perfect thing to snack on while waiting for our other food. My husband's pretzels were great as well, and he especially liked the beer cheese (it was more of a thick cheese dip as opposed to a runny sauce, which actually was a very welcome change of pace from what you find at a lot of breweries). Their menu here isn't huge, but as long as you know what to expect going in, you'll be fine. One suggestion - it would be awesome if they could post their daily menu online or via Facebook. We checked and couldn't find it, so ended up giving them a call to see what food they had available (the person I spoke with on the phone was very friendly & helpful though). Oh, and of course... the beer! They had a very diverse selection - the ones I tried were pretty mild (e.g. the sour I had wasn't super sour), but I still really enjoyed both of the ones I had. I was particularly obsessed with the artwork hanging on the outside of the building, celebrating a bunch of their past releases - I am a sucker for A+ can design, and it really contributed to the overall fun, cheery vibe of this place! Let's cut right to it. This is a great brewery. It's nice to see Weymouth stepping up as a brew town! We hit Vitamin Sea which is next door first as that's only open Saturday but BZ is surely worth coming to and hanging out in a dedicated fashion and we certainly will on another night. It's a comfortable tap room. Not real large but enough room to breathe with a nice long bar and attentive servers. Being new I asked for a couple of tastes and they were cheerfully provided.The warehouse side where the tanks are is enormous and indicates that increasing capacity to rival some of the big boys ie Trillium, Castle Island is possible and I think inevitable. I'm not saying the beers are as good as Trillium and Tree House (yet) as another reviewer suggests. That's a tall order as Trillium and Tree House are prolifically producing some of the finest craft beers in the whole country. I opted for Bam - Bam and Gemini both DIPA's checking in at 8.8% ABV and both winners. I forgot to take notes and am now a bit confused as to what differentiated them but oh well..We then both got the RR #23 the 2 yr old Bully Boy whiskey which is a 13% American strong Ale. WOW Almost tasted like a shot of whisky in a beer but it worked! I thought I was all done after that but Article 15 is a few minutes away and hey it's Saturday night and that's all right. LOL had a slight hangover in the morning, worth it. read more

Its a cute brewery. I wasn't a huge fan of the beer, but that's just because i prefer hoppy beers and these weren't. The beer selection was very unique there is def something for everyone. They do a lot of barrel aged beers (hence the name) so many of the beers are very high in alcohol content. They have lots of food options although it took forever to get the pretzel it was still very good and worth the wait just which they told us beforehand. They have live music on the weekends which is always nice. Its a different type of brewery but its a cool place to check out read more

Great little tasting room. Went on a dark, rainy night and I'm sure it's even more fun when you can play cornhole and drink out on the patio. One of the vanishingly few places around that is aware of beer styles other than IPA. And I love that you can buy beers in 5oz servings. As several of the styles are 8 percent and up, this makes it much safer to try a couple. Lots of brewery swag available, too. Look forward to returning this summer. read more

GREAT beer! Love all the different Sunny and 79's as well as the Addeline! The macandas are also very delicious, with different flavors of what's inside of them each time that I go in. On weekends they often have live music and food trucks which is nice, especially after a long work week. Nice to finally have brewery right here in Weymouth. Well done BHZ! Update: in the warm months, the outdoor space is great. It has chairs, tables, for cornhole, Jenga and more. Also BHZ has food trucks from around MA come on the weekends. Really just a great local craft brewery, everything is nice and clean and their staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. They have all windows facing into the brewery which is great for any cool Instagram photo ops. Also the decor says barrel aged, when you go there you will know what I mean. They are repurposing barrels into crazy rocking chairs and wall art that are all for sale which is cool. I would say that 95% of their beers are barrel aged which is just adding ridiculous flavor to beers. They are all limited production small batch beer which makes it interesting every time you go. They also have a Crowler canning machine so if you like a beer that they aren't bottling you can grab a crowler togo. I am a huge fan of what they are doing over there. It's really a great spot hidden in the suburbs. read more

The service was good and very friendly. They have a very short bites menu (4 items) that we didn't try. They were having trivia night (Thursday), but we ended up leaving halfway thru. I went to Barrel House Z in Weymouth tonight after work as I had a couple of hours to kill. Easy to find, plenty of parking. It was the perfect level of busy; busy but not uncomfortably crowded. I got a stool at the bar. There were 3 bartenders on and all were really awesome and friendly with fast service. The taproom had a cool vibe with (high quality) live music. I had 3 beers (grove crush, paint it black, and fingerpaint) and all surpassed my expectations; good quality. Normal brewery prices. Met a nice crew of people who ordered food from a food truck (Melt) that looked delicious but I didn't have any myself. Plenty of swag for sale, I grabbed a sticker $1. This used to be one of our favorite breweries. Loved the craft beer and the atmosphere. We recently stopped by for the first time since the COVID 19 pandemic. The outdoor seating was comfortable and the servers were diligently cleaning the tables and Adirondack chairs. Tried the pretzels for the first time, but they were just okay. It's best to go when there are food trucks if you want more variety. Before we left a few of us used the rest rooms. They were disgusting. Both rest rooms had water on the floor. Use your imagination for the rest. Keeping the establishment clean and following COVID procedures means the whole facility, not just the eating area. My new recommendation is to go to the packie, pick up a six pack or a case of craft beer and enjoy it at home. read more

Great beer. I think their whole shtick is that every beer is barrel aged. They were all very good. There are small, crappy breweries popping up every two feet in Boston, but this place is great. The space is big enough and they have a wonderful outside Beer Garden area. Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable about their product. They have 'crowlers' to-go and a carry out fridge with pre-packaged beer. Empanadas are incredible. Get an empanada. You don't have to know what it is, just get it, Bathroom looks like the inside of a beer barrel, so that's kinda cool too. read more

Came here last night for the first time after several friends recommended it. I like the setting. Felt cozy, yet spacious, and they had board games to play. Last night they had trivia which was fun. It seems like it's a pretty cool place in the summer too with lots of outdoor space, and yard games... a huge garage door that opens into the space. You can BYO food, or order delivery from anywhere to there... plus they have a food truck. The beers were really good..... pretty strong since they're all barrel aged, and all one of a kind. I loved that I could taste the different flavors of the liquors in all the beers. I guess they switch them out often. You can take anything home with you that you want in a growler or crowler.... my fiancé bought a couple things to bring home. My only complaint was the hipster bartender who took my order and rang me out. He wasn't awful but definitely not the most friendly, and he just came off as impatient and like he didn't want to be there. Other than that one thing, I really enjoyed my time there. This brewery - I love it so much. They are such great people. There was a mix up with my to go can order and a special limited release beer of theirs was already gone by the time I went and picked it up. I was so bummed. But mistakes happen, they were very apologetic. But - then I contacted them on Instagram - and they made it right! They said they found a few last 4 packs and I went back the next day to pick them up. They are just - the BEST! I am so excited for it. The brewery itself is awesome, great food, great atmosphere. We went to Barrel House Z last night on a whim that my girlfriend heard great things. We were so happy with our time spent there on our vacation that we are planning on making it a spot in the routine. The staff was friendly and relaxed and patient. The beer is made by a former brew master from harpoon and we actually got to meet him. He was the man, and took time to say hello to us. Checked it out and it was a nice surprise. Beer is good, certainly not off of the charts good. Some of the barrel aged beers are interesting, the shandys are good but it seems to lack that one 'must have,' crazy good pour. Service is a bit hit-or-miss as it appears the factory workers actually end-up bartending on weekends and it's charming but a little slow...having 10-12 different options in a few different glasses which some beers only come in this or that size glass makes the ordering process a bit trying. Food is a bit laughable. Why not have a standard beer / food items like bratwurst and currywurst, maybe throw-in a veggie burger slider for the fitness crowd with some salty snacks? Macaroni & cheese empanadas, who eats that a 10 year old? Outdoor space could be better set-up. Nice touch having live music on weekends but the tables, chairs and general layout is a bit strange. Take a tour of a real German Biergarten and you'll see what hundreds of years of crowded beer drinking and efficient thinking can do. Good, but I think it will get better! read more

Been here three times now. It is quickly becoming competition for my current favorite brewery. The beers are mostly all barrel aged in different liquor barrels. Rum beers, tequila beers and whiskey beers galore. They make a couple of really tasty shandies as well. My favorite is the Jamaican shandy. They also have macaroni and cheese empanadas. Yah you heard that right, and they have been different every time I have come. Yesterdays selection was a chili cheese mac or garlic Parmesan. The outdoor space is awesome considering its in a pretty ugly industrial park. There are trees and a little stream and grass and awesome Adirondack like chairs made from beer barrels. This place is super convenient to a few of my hiking locations so its great for an after hike beer. I will be back many times this summer. read more

Absolutely great time at Barrel House Z. First of all, a customer service story (my favorite story to tell, when it has a happy ending): I've been a fan of BZ since I met them at the Cape Cod Brew fest, and whenever I want to grab something reliable at Luke's, I usually look to see if they have any BZ lying around. A couple weeks ago, I grabbed a four-pack and.... well, it wasn't good. :( And this wasn't just me not liking the flavor; the beer was Off. Musty. Undrinkable. Man, Hannah, you sure are throwing a lot of shade for a five-star review. Relax, a bad batch of beer doesn't change my opinion of you. How you respond to my constructive criticism does. I wrote a nice email to BZ and asked if they had had any issues with this particular brew. They could have ignored me. They could have said, "nope. screw you and your philistine palate." But instead, some lovely woman wrote back the next day, acknowledged that this batch had aged funkily, and asked if I would be interested in coming to the brewery for them to make it up to me. (And she clarified that if I couldn't make the trip, they would find some other way to fix things). Hey, luckily Weymouth isn't THAT far! I told Lovely Woman I would be there on Saturday, and she even cc'ed the bar manager so everyone would know not to tackle the tiny brunette checking in on Yelp when she grabbed a four-pack and walked out. Anyway, I arrived with my super cool posse (a science teacher, a camp counselor, and an AmeriCorp staffer) and grabbed a table. BZ is pretty cozy, but has a nice outdoor area, a big bar (duh), and big wooden tables with benches. There isn't a lot of indoor standing room, and the crowd can get a little overwhelming, especially when the bar line or bathroom line gets long. We moseyed up to the bar, where the service was super quick. Even though it was crowded, the bartender was more than happy to describe what was on tap as to not offend my IPA-hating palate (fight me). I tried four different drafts, and only one of them was too hoppy for me. The peach cobbler was my favorite. Oh, and they were more than happy to poor a sample if I asked. The menu also had FOOD! Nothing fancy but hey, it's better than bringing in your own Doritos. I think they have food trucks too, but not when I was there. They did have a band come in, and that's about when I grabbed my coat. The music wasn't bad, but when you're at a small venue, loud music just clogs the air. Full disclosure: I once asked the DJ to turn down the music at a strip club. So don't mind me when I say something is too noisy. My other criticism would be that the bathrooms are kind of right in the middle of the main room, so expect a line of people needing to pee standing near you while you drink your beer. Oh, and to the woman who screamed "I have to go so bad!" and cut in front of about 6 people when one of the bathrooms became available: You're shitty. No one likes you. All in all, we had a great time at Barrel House Z. It was low-key, fun, had board games, TV, everything you need. Oh, and good beer, food, and service. And when I paid out my tab, I told the bartender I was going to be grabbing a four-pack bcs Lovely Woman had told me I could. He immediately was like, "oh yeah, we know! help yourself." My replacement beer (a milk porter called Swear Jar) was perfect. read more

Checked out Barrel House Z this past weekend with friends. The tap room is beautifully designed with polished cement floors, large glass windows, a unique wood barrel wall where the taps are installed and a bar that seats approximately 10-12 bodies. There are additional high-tops around the room as well as some tables. There is also a beautiful outdoor space featuring tables and Adirondack chairs made out of whiskey barrels. Even the fence is made out of whiskey barrels! Very cool. The day we visited, the outdoors was open with heat lamps to make it more comfortable. The Sausage Guy from Fenway was there grilling and that was a nice treat in addition to the "Macanadas" that they serve. The staff is all smiles and share information that is interesting and informative - not only about the beers themselves, but about the space, the owner, etc. As for the beers themselves...Barrel House Z doesn't feature a "flagship" beer. Once a beer is gone, it's gone ... something new and different will replace it. They offer growlers and crowlers (if you haven't heard of a crowler, it's a 32oz can of beer - canned fresh from the tap right in front of you). They also have beers on nitro, so if you can wait patiently for a bit, you can have that delicious and creamy texture that comes with. Now all that said, I take one star away simply because the beers I've tried thus far aren't exactly my cup of tea. I love a good craft brew, but these beers are a lot boozier than I can really handle. The beers aged for less time aren't as high-octane, but some of the beers literally just taste like the barrel they were aged in. One on the menu, a rum-aged one just tasted like rum and burning - and the bartender told us it wasn't the "rummiest" one they've ever had! The 1-mos chardonnay aged wasn't too bad...lower octane and a more pleasant hit to the palate, but beer tasting like wine is kind of strange - at least to me! All that said, the space is just so cool and I could see myself sipping on a beer and hanging out here, especially in the summer months! read more
