But while Beech Bend isn't as nearly as well known or have as high profile coasters as those parks, it shouldn't be ignored. This is because Beech Bend has an excellent thrilling coaster in Kentucky Rumbler, which is a relatively smooth wooden coaster that is filled with a mix of forces and airtime that will make you want to go on it again and again. Additionally, Beech Bend has some very interesting flat rides you generally only see at fairs, but here you ride them over and over again instead of having to pay per ride. Plus, admission is quite affordable, especially if you buy it in advance, and parking is free, so Beech Bend will not set you back a lot. With that in mind, Beech Bend, while it lacks the high profile coasters of the parks that surround it, is a nice, charming, and affordable small park that should not be missed if you are in the area.

Prices to get in the amusement/water park are $44.99 plus tax for anyone over 48" but there are a few offers that can get you in cheaper. I strongly suggest using a discount, as this park is not worth the full price. You are allowed to bring one water bottle per person and you should because there are limited areas of shade. The two star review is because of the following: First, like many of the prior reviews have stated, the rides are old, unkept, and rickety. A few are even dangerous. The Wild Mouse gave me a bruised leg and sore neck. The main attraction for thrill seekers is the Kentucky Rambler, which was closed when we were there. There were other rides closed too. Second, most of the snack huts were closed. The lines at the opened concessions were long and moved slow. Of course food is overpriced too. I would recommend bringing your lunch/snacks in a cooler and going outside the park for eating. They allow you to go and come with a stamp. There are shaded picnic tables outside the park if you bring your lunch. You can't bring coolers of food inside. Third, the park is overrun with tweens and teens. Ages 12 and up are allowed in without an adult. My 9 year old son rode the bumper cars and got bumped really hard by a unsupervised teenager. I was worried he may have gotten whiplash. Fourth, our experience with the staff was pleasant and the only reason we gave 2 stars instead of 1 star. The staff enforced the rules and took their jobs seriously. Many of them joked around with my son. In conclusion, if you are an area tween or teen with a season pass, this park may be worthwhile. If you have kiddos under 5 years old, there are a number of kiddie rides that are safe enough. The water park also has a nice little kids section. The free parking and free sunscreen is a plus. If you arrive when they open, lines for rides aren't long, especially on weekdays. Again, if you pay full price for your tickets and don't bring your own food, you will probably be disappointed. However, if you pack food and get a discount, you may be able to enjoy yourself if you fancy low budget fair rides. I recommend Holiday World, about an hour from Beech Bend, it's well worth the drive. Holiday World is clean and the rides are safe. If you go to Holiday World in May, your tickets would be cheaper than Beech Bend.

They have more than your average convenient store selections, but that is basically what it is and the best way to describe it... a convenient store. The bait store portion of The Landing, has a separate entrance and seemed like a completely different store altogether, but it wasn't. You can even have your purchase at the back register, in the bait "department". The prices are like convenient stores, higher than a grocery store. Overall I was more than willingly to pay the slightly inflated prices for the convenience factor and not having to drive about 30 minutes away to the closest grocery store.

Epic Rail Train…read moremuseum located in Bowling Green, KY at the historic (1925) L&N Depot. We were looking for something to check out while we visited Bowling Green, and trains are always a good idea. The Good: *Admission is $16 ($14 seniors and vets) for the museum and tour or $8 for just the museum. *Some nice displays in the museum of historic rail antiquities. *Friendly staff *Touring the rail cars is always fascinating, and they've done a great job refurbishing and keeping them in good shape. The Meh: *Smallish souvenir shop to pick up a few gifts and/or souvenirs for train lovers. The Ugly: *Touring the rail car in the summer is just a downright awful experience. I mean, they try their best to cool off the trains with AC, but it's like spitting into the wind. I was schvitzing more than a turkey in November. TLDR: Not the best train museum I've ever visited--and I've visited a LOT--but it was a good way to kill a few hours and didn't break the bank.

While I don't get back as often as I'd like, I've always been fond of the town and often thought about retiring there once that time comes. Old Mulkey State Park is actually known as Old Mulkey Meetinghouse State Historic SIte. The entire location is centered around Old Mulkey Meetinghouse, the oldest freestanding log structure in Kentucky. It was originally a church with records dating back to 1798. Build in 1804, Old Mulkey has 12 corners in the shape of a cross and three doors, symbolic of the Holy Trinity. There's a cemetery on the grounds featuring graves of both the Revolutionary War and Civil War. Hannah Boone (Daniel's sister) is buried here. The meetinghouse and grounds have free entry. Self-guided tours have an audio tour available during park hours. It's quite cool. What else is here? A lot more than you'd think. You can hike the pretty easy Jackson Memorial Trail (less than a mile and along the Jackson Memorial Cemetery), visit the fairy garden atmosphere at the bottom of the hill, complete the park quest, and find what's known as the "Kentucky Rock." Birding is very popular here with sandhill cranes and Canadian geese during November-December and February-March migrations. In the fall, you can see redwing blackbirds, starlings, and finches. There are over two dozen birdhouses here. There's a basketball court and 4-square area for public use. There's also a gift shop located in the park office with books on the history of Old Mulkey, Kentucky handcrafts, and souvenirs. There are cool records to be found here, as well. There's picnic areas and a sheltered that can be reserved. Of course, there's also a playground that also offers cornhole. You can rent the meetinghouse for $300 plus a $75 deposit. You can rent Meetinghouse Picnic Point for $30, Playground Picnic Place for $35, the entire bottom of the hill for $70, and the shelter for varying prices. It's really a pretty cool setting and I would easily do a wedding here. Tompkinsville is a small town, but this is definitely worth a visit. Tompkinsville is also about 25-30 miles from Glasgow, a bigger city and a combination of the two would be a great day trip or weekend getaway.
