As a realtor for over 12 years & hundreds of sold homes, I have never had such horrific communication from a loan team. I was the sellers agent and together with the buyers agent we tried to get answers. Principle Brokers were finally involved, the COO of BFG "stepped in" but literally got nothing progressing. We kept getting fed lines that were just not believable. After multiple extensions & 7 weeks in escrow (and the LO, Christine, going completely dark on us), we agreed to terminate the contract as we had no idea if it was ever going to close. Both sides believe the buyer was given pre-approval WAY prematurely... I could go on and on but you get the point. We felt terrible as the Buyer was out thousands of dollars for inspections & appraisal and sadly, his family was displaced from their current home due to the length of time and had to rent an apartment. I will NEVER allow my sellers to accept an offer if the letterhead says Barrett Financial at the top. You've been warned. read more

Almost lost our home due to our loan officer NOT being properly educated or fighting to close the deal. Not only did he drag his feet when closing the deal he ended up costing us more money at settlement. Our closing date was pushed back never received the clear to close, Alan was even rude to my husband. They are a brokerage company so whole process goes thru 3rd party no one ever had the answer to our questions and left us uneasy. If it wasn't for Our realtor our deal would have never gotten done. Not so good. So, first Nora the agent, always seems super busy; Even to show a home. Kathrine in the office is VERY sarcastic and nonchalant acting. And she will say anything, just to get someone off the phone. I realized this when I called in regarding a concern I had. Lasset in the office is very unknowing about how anything is handled in the company and constantly puts someone on hold, just to still not have an answer ; or she'll transfer you straight to a voicemail. I am really unimpressed with how this company has been presenting itself! Especially, considering it's high ratings. Do better people. read more

Working with Stephen Anderson and his staff was the most worst experience of our lives. They completely lead us astray from the moment we started working with them, we went under contract for a home only to be told there would be issues with underwriting because of how far away we were trying to move. We were upfront about where we lived and where we would be moving from the beginning and this was never discussed once. Their gross negligence cost us thousands of dollars in pointless inspection and appraisal fees because we didn't find out we couldn't get the loan until we were a week away from the first closing (because that's how long they waited to start processing the paperwork). We almost changed companies because of the experience but we were already this far into the paperwork and decided to give them a second chance. They were even more frustrating (understatement) with the second offer. We had an extended closing period of 45 days instead of the typical 30 days and they still barely managed to get the loan deal closed in time. Granted some of this time was during the holidays but there was plenty of time to prep before that and we were compliant getting anything they requested of us to them immediately. Instead they procrastinated time and time again. In fact they waited until the day of closing to do the final underwriting and we almost didn't get our home loan in time. Our title closing appt was at 330pm and they didn't send the paperwork over until 4. We were lucky the title company stayed late to finish our paperwork so we could get the keys that day. The experience of being a first time home-buyer should be exciting and instead they made every second ABSOLUTE MISERY. Stephen's team processor Jessica has THE WORST customer service skills and gave us attitude every time had to work with her (and unfortunately she is who we had to deal with most of the time). Not only that but she was incompetent, missed vital details, and dropped the ball or blamed others for her mistakes any chance she could get (and she was caught in several lies about it). She would often contact us asking for important documents late on a Friday afternoon just in time for them to be out of office for the weekend. Then we wouldn't hear from her again for another week. She also stopped using the secure portal for us to submit the requested documents, and just had us send them via email which I was not comfortable with. It also backfired when she was sick 2 days before our closing and someone else from the team had to step in to help. They couldn't access our documents because they were in her email instead of the portal. Whenever we talked directly to Stephen about our concerns he was unprepared and often had no idea where we were in the process as if he and his team had no regular communication. The way he talked to us also felt like he was always stumbling to make up some BS to cover their butts. They also had us sign legal documents with inaccurate details. Very disorganized for people who are dealing with important life decision and financial documents. It was like it was their first time ever processing a loan. Just completely disappointed over the entire experience. And this is me waiting over a month to write the review so it wouldn't be written in the heat of my rage/anger. read more

I've opted out multiple times, blocked over 20 numbers and they still persist in calling me and wasting my time. There should be a ZERO star option. Initially working with Barrett Financial this summer was a positive experience. The mortgage broker Mario Kirksey was responsive, at first, and it seemed as if he had our best interest in mind. That quickly changed. The lender they used sent out an appraiser who had no idea about our area in North Central Phoenix. The appraisal came in $12k under what was needed to achieve the refinancing goal. Now you would think that this is no big deal but the conservative expectation was the appraisal would come in well over $100k higher...easily. All of my efforts to try and communicate with the appraiser, lender, and broker went unheard. They just threw their hands up and said "oh well". They then retooled the loan estimate trying to charge me $15k more in closing costs than the initial $3k which is typical. I was so frustrated that they didn't care, didn't want to do their research that I turned to other brokers. I explained my frustrating experience to which they weren't surprised. As a test, I used two different brokers who each used different lenders and in turn, separate appraisers, and both came in as expected...well over $100k more than the appraiser from Barrett Financial's lender. So customers beware. I would recommend using anyone BUT Barrett Financial. My experience was terrible. I never post reviews as like most I usually just shake my head and move on. However, this time I felt I needed to save others from the massive headache and loss of time. Again, horrible customer service from Barrett Financial. Note that I have retained all communication in case needed to use later for whatever reason. read more

RUN AWAY AS FAST AS POSSIBLE!! This "company" has zero integrity. Trevor Barrett is a thief and a liar. I was in the process of purchasing a home with Trevor. He took all our personal info and sent us a pre-qualification letter. We found a home and put in an offer, following his guidelines. We thought all was good. We were wrong. This guy disappeared. Then the whole company shut down. The buyers (me), the sellers, our agent, their agent, the title company and the inspection company were all on hold. We talked to the receptionist at Barrett, who could not be ruder, and she would give us no answer on Trevor's whereabouts and would under no circumstances allow us to talk to another lender. Next, all the voice mails were full, Trevor's and the front line. This went on for days until we lost the house. I asked Trevor to pay us back for the wire transfer costs to the title company of $35.00. He refused and still refuses to this day. If you want to get screwed around with, go to Trevor. He might respect somebody with lots of money but he definitely believes he is better and above the average human. He's a sicko. I am disabled and he knows it from all the paperwork. Taking advantage of the disabled is despicable. Not communicating with your clients is just his way of letting you know, you don't matter to him. read more

This is by far the worst financial institution I have ever had to deal with, it was a joke. We were working on closing on our house for two months. They kept requesting and asking for documents last minute. And when the underwriter finally approved our loan, it was chosen for a second overview where they then asked for more paperwork. By the end of the deal the didn't approve our loan causing us to not only waste two months of time, but also lose the house we could've gotten and losing $1600. read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. Please save your time, money, and heartache and use someone else. My husband and I have been living in a hotel for about a week and a half because of these people's huge errors. To start we were pre-approved for up to $500,000 and were shopping in another state. We went there and found a house for $345 and put an offer in the same day and it was accepted. So we started the process of sending all the paperwork in. The first red flag was when our loan officer, Melanie, was communicating with my husband over text and asked him to have me bring some tax forms in to her office. He informed her that I would be coming the following day and I did. I asked for her and then was informed that she went on vacation a day early and didn't think to let us know when my husband told her that I would be coming in. I handed the forms to someone else and she took care of whatever they needed. We were getting close to the closing date and hadn't heard anything for a couple days so we reached out to find out if we needed anything else and got no response. We hadn't and haven't heard from Melanie since then. She pretty much disappeared on us when we were going through the final stages of the process. We were never informed that we would be working with someone else. She just vanished and never gave us a reason. *We find out later that Melanie knew that she messed up on something so she decided to "step back" from working with us and never inform us of any error :)*We were supposed to close on Wednesday the 17 but then we found out my work verification had not even been sent to my former employer yet!! So last minute I reached out to my old employer and she informed me that she had just received it the same day and would try to get it to us ASAP. We pushed the closing day to Friday in hopes that we would get the form. We missed that day also so now we were aiming for Monday. The seller was becoming frustrated, rightfully so, and informed us that if we did not close Monday by 3pm they would put the house back on the market. My husband and I are now panicking because we moved our entire lives and 3 dogs to another state. We don't know anyone here and had no where to live. We did not have a plan b because we trusted these people and thought we would just move into our house with no issues. On Monday we got the work verification and shortly after we found out that we were actually never pre-approved :) We own another house which we have been renting out for less then a year and we told them that at the beginning of all this. We were completely honest with our situation and they should've been able to tell us BEFORE we moved that we would not be approved because we'd need to be renting the house for 2 years and we were for less. It took these people over a month and for us to make a huge move for them to tell us that we would be denied for the house. So then we tried working with another loan officer last minute and he was able to tell us that we would not be approved in a day. A day. When my husband spoke to the manager all he said was "sorry." They don't care. They didn't try to help us. All they did was play with our lives and now are happy they don't have to deal with us anymore. We've spent hundreds of dollars on hotels and food because of their huge mistake. I'm really trying to stress that we are now homeless, living in a hotel with our three large dogs. We have no idea how long we'll be here because now we have to rent a house and are going through that whole application process. We also most likely lost our earnest money that the manager told us we'd get back automatically because we're veterans. Turns out that's now true either. Just please. If I could give zero stars I would. Do not trust this company. They are just looking to get your information and then lose it. I have been told "don't worry your information is private" but private is *not* secure. I uploaded all my docs and they lost them. In addition, they required wet signatures on certain forms alleging the IRS will not use DocuSign for the 4506-T yet the lender I am using for my refinance happily took DocuSign for the 4506-T. My mortgage rep put me in the phone with her "mentor" to discuss some items and he was insulting and when I called him on it his apology was "I am sorry you took it that way" -- anyone with any actual awareness knows that's not an actual apology and he may as well have just said "bless your heart" -- same message. The message being "idgaf". (If you want to learn how actual apologies work read up on Brené Brown and Harriet Lerner but I digress). Now I am effed and have to pay for credit monitoring on my own dime because I chose to trust them. Save yourself the hassle and go with a reputable lender and skip the middle man. My new servicer is helping me shave 9 years off my loan. For work i am required to give white glove service to all my clients and I expect it. Barrett failed epically. So I am PISSED I now have to add credit monitoring services when I take good care of my credit and my finances. And to be clear, I am generally very forgiving when it comes to service but all that goes out the window when it comes to my finances and the security of my personal details. Using a pandemic to create a false sense of urgency and lose people's sensitive client details is not a good look. I have a feeling I will get a response on this with a "we are sorry blah blah blah" and remember when a company protests an honest review ... that's a red flag read more
