The water is New England rocky and murky but also very calm. Rocky beaches are meh but kids had fun. There's also a nice snack shop that has ice cream and sandwiches. The issue: it's a $30 dollar per car charge. I'm not against paying for access but the facilities are public so it's strange they'd charge that amount. Residents pay a lot less - like 10. That said there is a life guard , the beach was clean and there is staff to pay.

At over 70 acres, this wildlife refuge is situated on a parcel of land that comprises Barrington's…read morehistoric Nockum Hill. A beautiful outdoor space any time of the year; there are a number of trails to peruse this mix of coastal wetland filled with marshes, fields, forest, and farmland. There is a small parking area on George Street just as the road starts to curve. A small sign marks the entrance to the first trailhead. Named for a Barrington native and prominent naturalist, the trails here meander through the various landscape. A couple off-shoots give you access to areas like a small boardwalk area that extends into the upper marshlands. Several of the fields have birdhouses erected that attract all kinds of species. I believe I caught a couple views of some bluebirds during my time here. And geese. So many geese. Another trail delivers you to the sandy shores of the Hundred Acre Cove. Really beautiful in January when I visited, all iced over. This beach is a nesting area for the diamondback terrapin. There is a park bench on this shoreline to soak in the views. Of note, there is a seemingly out of place pistol range on site for the Barrington Police which is very well-marked for safety. All-in-all, a pleasant place to get outside.

Definitely use caution when the tide is coming in however, as the currents here are extremely strong and tragedies have occurred. There are also benches overlooking the water, picnic tables, a playground and bathrooms. Nice place to walk, enjoy a picnic, or just relax by the water.

Also across the street is Dune Bros, so when you visit Rose Larisa, you can get some clam cakes & chowder and go eat in the park with a water view. I especially like the wooden staircases that take you down to the water. Although the beach is not very wide, it is long enough for a walk and leashed dogs are allowed on the beach as well. Rose Larisa is a great place to watch the sunset, and there is plenty of free parking. This park also is home to the annual RI Folk Festival and the city of East Providence also presents summer concerts here so go check out some local live music! I absolutely love this waterfront park.

I used to watch the horseshoe crabs here when I was little! The carousel is very nice. When I was younger they had a delicious cheap clam shack with good clam cakes and chowder- that is now replaced by Dune Brother's. I haven't tried this location- it's definitely not cheap but I'm sure it's delicious. Great place to come for physical activities or just to relax. Family friendly fun for EVERYONE! Since we had some time to kill, we decided to take a walk along the beach and see what it had to offer. The first thing I'll say is that this isn't the place to visit if you're looking for that classic Rhode Island beach experience. If you've spent any time at the beaches in South County, whether it's Misquamicut, East Matunuck, Charlestown, or one of the quieter stretches of shoreline, it's hard not to compare the two. Oakland Beach just doesn't have the same wide-open feel, rolling surf, clean sand, or salt air that makes those beaches worth the drive. It's a bay beach, and it feels like one. That said, it isn't without its positives. The views across Greenwich Bay are pleasant, there were plenty of families out enjoying the afternoon, and it's an easy place to take a casual stroll. The boardwalk area and nearby restaurants give it more of a neighborhood gathering spot than a true beach destination. You can grab an ice cream, watch the boats, and spend an hour or two relaxing without much effort. The beach also has restrooms, parking, and easy access, so it's convenient if you're already in the area. What kept this from being a higher rating for me was the beach itself. The water looked murky compared to what I'm used to, the sand wasn't particularly inviting, and the whole area felt a little worn around the edges. It wasn't dirty enough to make me want to leave, but it also wasn't somewhere that made me think, "I can't wait to come back and spend the day here." I found myself appreciating the scenery more than the actual beach. Overall, Oakland Beach is perfectly fine for a quick walk before dinner or if you live nearby and want to enjoy the waterfront for a little while. I just wouldn't go out of my way to make it a beach day destination. For me, South County will always be where I head when I want to spend time at the ocean. Oakland Beach serves its purpose, but it never quite escapes the feeling that it's a pleasant neighborhood waterfront rather than one of Rhode Island's great beaches.

I only walked the area in East Providence near the troll, so I can't speak for the whole path, but this area offers a nice view of the waterfront. I've seen other posts complain about ticks, but the areas off path seemed trimmed and maintained, so it didn't seem to be an issue. Even as crowded as it was, bicyclists were flying along the path, so be careful.

There are beautiful water views along a lot of the way. It's also mostly flat with just a few small hills so it's very beginner friendly and kids can do it. There's a Del's lemonade stand right off the path in Warren where we usually stop for a refreshing frozen lemonade or ice tea along the way. There's also a taco trailer behind the Del's which is open seasonally but I haven't tried them yet. It gets pretty crowded on sunny weekends but it's so fun and everyone is in good spirits.
