Sachuest Beach, locally known as Second Beach, is a South facing, mile long, family friendly beach with good surf and great sand. There is a concession stand, bathrooms, changing area, showers, grills, picnic tables and shade structures located at the main building. Port-a-johns are located at the base of each pathway. During peak season parking is $15 for the weekdays and $25 for the weekends. I would recommend this beach to other visitors.

Worth getting a ton of sand in your shoes just a quick stop after our visit to the refuge. It was simply energizing to get up close to the water (even though it was only 60' out). Although we did not stay long, I'm grateful we stopped to enjoy the views and the sounds.

I spent 24 hours in Rhode Island while on a road trip so of course I had to stop at the beach. We decided to check our second beach and we were not disappointed. There is so boardwalk but the beach and water was so clean unlike Atlantic City! The water was very cold though but on a hot summer day it felt super refreshing. It was a great family road trip and even better stop. There is a very nice cliff walk at the entrance of the beach area which I would highly highly recommend to everyone who visits the area!

Love this beach. Had a fun fun day by the beach. And planning to return as much as I can before this beautiful summer will disappear. Parking is around $15. Too much for a weekday. But it is what it is. Beach was almost empty. And walked for a bit to really be by myself. Had a day that just wanted to be the water and think about nothing. Beautiful beach. Clean. And I know that on weekdays there are smiley people by the beach. To go.

Beautiful beach! Quiet, great for relaxing close to our hotel! About 10 minutes. $30 to park was a little much! But, it is what it is!

Awesome beach - little further from town but worth the extra run or drive! Much less crowded and the nature center isn't far away. Gorgeous beach

Great beach!! The beach itself is very clean. There are on site surf lessons, del's lemonade, food truck, and port-a-potties. Parking was $20 not sure if it was more bc it was Labor Day weekend. I had a fantastic 2 days here. Even the red tide couldn't bring down my mood. There is also some rocks to climb and even jump from.

One of the next beaches in RI. Short hop to Newport. A great place to spend the middle part of the day.

A great beach with powdery sand and clean facilities. The snack bar isn't as good as first beach but otherwise we loved this beach!

After driving through Ocean Avenue, that's how I discovered Gooseberry beach…read more Passing by, I was convinced it had to be private. The fact it's small and in the middle of a neighborhood full of mansions made me believe I'd never step foot on this premisses. $20 to park the car, however, there was no additional entrance charge. A small lot, but nowhere near full when we arrived at 11:30 one Thursday morning. I really like this beach and feel it's worth both the drive and price for the following reasons: It has just the right amount of people, neither too crowded nor completely isolated. Rocks not far from the shore were a nice change in scenery, along with the historic Newport mansions off in the near distance. There's a cute snack shack to grab lunch or a little bite to eat as well. A trailer within the lot has a men's and women's bathroom. Two stalls in the ladies room. Clean and just right for this beach. Swimming wise, there weren't many waves. I was also surprised as to how much seaweed floated around. But, I still enjoyed being in the water nonetheless. I also love the fact I'm in Newport. Everyone makes their way to Narragansett Beach or Easton's. The traffic to either place is horrendous, never mind finding a spot to park. Driving in circles for 20 minutes is a given. But not here. It's nice to know there's a 'secret' beach not only in such a high class town, but also close to the heart of downtown Newport as well. The exclusivity Gooseberry beach offers the everyday person is exciting. It's truly a hidden gem, and definitely worth a visit.

I've been here many times over the last two years but have never walked it after any snowfall. So knowing it recently snowed and that it hasn't all melted away, I immediately drove down on my first day off. I'm sure it would have been even more beautiful than it was today if I had been here just after a fresh snowfall. But it was a good glimpse of just how beautiful it could be. There were still many patches of white and the landscape was transformed by it. The cold breeze enveloped you as you walked the 3.5 miles was refreshing like chugging a cold beer on a hot summer day. It's an easy stroll even on the "rougher" terrain. Any hiking shoes would easily help you traverse the whole 3.5 miles. You get to see many of the historical and private mansions along the coast. And if you're curious to see more of them, continue onto the main road at the end of the cliff walk and see them from there (lots of information posted along the way too!) Parking during off-season is plentiful and free. Good luck during the rest of the year finding parking when crowds really pack this place...

This is a beautiful walk, about 3.5 miles long, and about 75% of it is very easy. You can see some…read moreof the famous Newport mansions including The Breakers, Marble House, and Rosecliff. There are also great views of the Atlantic. On the downside, it can be very crowded and it's fairly narrow in spots. (I was going to put in an offer on the Breakers mansion, which has 70 rooms, 48 bedrooms and 27 fireplaces but thought it might be too drafty!!!). Newport is a great place to visit, and if you arrive on a decent day, it's worthwhile to take a walk on the Cliff Walk!
