OMG! This place!! What a find! This is a hole in the wall or actually hole in the middle of a shopping center and is a to go spot only that has some of the most authentic Jamaican food in Bako! Having visited and fell in love with Jamaica 2 years ago, this place is a godsend in the middle of the valley for Jamaican food! The jerk chicken and the goat stew plates definitely hit the spot! The man/owner is also extremely nice! He hooked us up with this extremely hot sauce that was so spicy that it burned so good!! The plain rains and vegetables were also pretty good as well. Food is not very authentic - the jerk chicken was not really jerked, more of a sweet sauce - and it wasn't the best insofar as the plantains and cabbage were flavorless, but you get a lot of food (white meat and dark for chicken) that is relatively healthy and the rice and beans were great. Overall fairly mediocre food but at the price point (10ish bucks for a full plate) and volume it's great value. I'd say this is a 3.5 but rounding up to a 4 since I only have a small sample to go off of. read more

My family has been going here for years but only recently did I discover Barrington's for myself. What was I thinking not listening to them? This place is lights out! And the owner is about the sweetest person you'll ever meet. This drive-thru restaurant serves a mean Jamaican meal. I hadn't had great Jamaican since I moved back from Washington, D.C. so I was weary. But talking to the owner for 2 seconds made me realize what a great establishment Barrington's truly is. I ordered the jerk chicken plate which came with rice/beans and plantains. I'm a plantain fan, so I ordered extra and was blown away. They slice their plantains thin enough so that they aren't soaked with frying grease and instead retain the rich starchy texture we all love. The chicken itself is perfectly seasoned and spiced: Simultaneously sweet, savory, and spicy. I couldn't get enough. The owner even threw in a sample of the curry chicken which unsurprisingly was incredible as well. I'm a big eater, and the portions here were so generous I had enough for lunch the next day! This was one of the most exceptional take out dinners I've had in recent memory. I cannot wait to come back and try their other menu offerings. Try the GOAT! First time ordering and unfamiliar with Jamaican cooking. Ordered one jerk chicken - 3 stars for us. Goat curry - 6 stars - nice young goat (note: you can tell from the size of the bones these were tender young goats) . The rice and veggies that came with it were flavorful and I considered the portion generous - 5 stars. Service was prompt and polite - 5 stars. Barrington is now in the regular rotation - next time it will be goat and oxtails.....and wash it down with a Shandy , which is a mix of beer and ginger ale. read more

Okay guys hear me out: I'm a Asian and this is my first getting Jamaican food for my whole life. It blew me away! It's so good! Truly hole in the wall (not even in the wall), but their food hits my sweet spot that I feel that little kick of spice but it doesn't overwhelm other flavors. Chicken pieces are extremely soft that you can just tear it easily, oxtail is phenomenal considering I don't even eat oxtail usually. This is my husbands favorite Bakersfield restaurant. I kid you not, we were coming into town, after a five hour drive with a toddler, and he drove through there on the way to see our family. Last time we were in town, he tried the oxtail at this spot. This time, he got the jerk chicken which came with rice and fried plantains. This restaurant is nothing more than a small stand on the side of the road, but the food delivers! They were also pretty fast! Everything was so flavorful and relatively large portions, also. My friends were in town visiting and we were all hungry. I have seen this spot before but never had the opportunity to stop and try it. We let the gentlemen know that it was our first time trying them out and he recommended coming back in 40 minutes when he would be pulling chicken off the grill. Roger that! we all got the jerk chicken plate that had chicken, plantains, rice/beans and a slaw? That protein is bomb! It is tender and juicy. I like that it also had a nice char on the outside on some pieces. I would get a hint of something sweet and some salt while eating it. The plantains were bomb!! I loved everything except the slaw. This place really surprised me! This is the perfect definition of don't judge a book by its cover. I ordered the oxtail plate and the lady there allowed me to substitute some of the oxtail with the chicken so that I was able to try both. I must say I enjoyed the oxtail a lot more than the chicken which was a bit dry. I didn't care for the plantains but it was my first time trying a cooked version of it. Ok so first off I'm really ashamed that we waited so long to give Barrington's a try!!!!! Big mistake on missing out on some of the best Jamaican Jerk Chicken ever!!!! We decided to go after a trip to Vegas. The location is fine but unfortunately if you want to eat you'll have to brave the heat and the parking lot. The Chef owner is super friendly and loves to talk about his food, even when it's a 110 outsides with a swamp cooler that isn't working that well!!!!! We need to help him get to a location with indoor dinning and a Air Conditioner. Back to the food!!!! The Jerk Chicken is some of the best I have tasted. It has the sweetness of some pineapple and a subtle kick from the Jerk spices!!!!. The chicken was perfectly cooked and super moist. It was chopped up in to nice size chunks and there was enough to almost make 2 full meals. This was served on a bed of rice and beans with some of the marinade on top!!!! I would love to figure out his marinade..... This also came with Plantains and cabbage! We also ordered the curry chicken which like the Jerk came on a bed of rice and also had potatoes with it. The curry was perfectly spiced and super flavorful. We wanted to try the Chicken Stew but got there a little late as he ran out of this dish. We just went for the first time after talking about going for years. It did not disappoint. We were able to try everything on the menu and every single thing was fantastic! I heard about this place years ago but I never thought much of it even though I passed by it on a weekly basis. It wasn't until I read that it was Yelp's #1 Jamaican restaurant in the state!! I almost was shocked that this gem was even here in Bakersfield! I finally went today with two other friends and we all got the jerk chicken plate and it was fantastic! I've only had Jamaican food one other time in my life, but this definitely blew away the previous meal I had years ago. The chicken was seasoned perfectly and it had a kick to it unlike other dishes I've had. Also, the owner, Barrington is seriously one of the nicest guys I have ever met!! He greets you at the drive up window with a smile and has been involved in the community for years and only wants the best for his customers! I also have to say that I got a TON of food for $10 which included a drink (canned soda) and I was absolutely stuffed when I finished. I will definitely be coming back here and will continue to support this local business! I plan on getting the curry chicken and brown stew plate on my next few trips!!! Perfect plantains, and side cabbage was spot on. Seasoned rice was a nice compliment to the dishes. Will definitely we going back. From the smiling friendly service (Thank you Ladies, you made my afternoon), beyond welcoming and warm, it felt like I had arrived at someone's house for dinner. We drove from North Hollywood to see if the urban legend was true! Mr. Barrington offered us a complimentary sample of jerk chicken, oxtail , curry goat and chicken curry. The jerk chicken was amazing, plenty of flavor in all the samples. The one thing we immediately pick up on was boldness in flavor. You can taste a hint of the thyme and garlic and pepper. So much flavor! We cane for the oxtail but took some jerk chicken to go. So rare to find a good restaurants that feels like home cooking,especially a Jamaican one. All the dishes hit the spot. Here was our rating -Curry chicken 7/10 (I prefer slightly spicier) -Jerk chicken 10/10 (we would give it a 11 if we could) -Oxtail 9/10 great taste and texture. Wish it had a tiny bit more salt but that's just a preference. -Goat curry 8/10 very soft, a ton of flavor in the gravy. We also tried the side dishes -Cabbage and plantains fresh and had flavor but not the reason we drove 2hrs from Noho, we came for the FLAVOR! Conclusion This place is unique and YES the legend is true about Mr. Barrington's jerk chicken is different than the manny jerk dishes we have had in LA. The food tasted like it's was cooked at home. Yup we will probably visit again! Until the next road trip. I hope he keeps his recipes the same and does not comprise as the resturant gets bigger and fires more staff. read more

I would highly suggest coming Friday through Sunday, as they have brown stew chicken and oxtail. My wife and I ordered both.... absolutely amazing. All the meat was so tender. Cabbage that comes on the plates is seasoned so well. I was so happy my wife finally wanted to try this place. We're from out of town and are always looking for good food spots. It was so good, we came back the following day to pick up more for us, as well as my ma and grampa... they're such picky eaters and they love it as well.
