Stopped in for a quick bite before visiting the Salem Witch Museum. Place was colorfully decorated with lots of seating. Service was a bit slow as we waited for a while to get the food, even though we could clearly see the food sitting waiting to be delivered to the table. As a result the food was cold. My steak bowl was well seasoned but the rice was undercook and was hard to chew. The tortilla was not warm so the taco fell apart when eating.

We had come here on a haunted pub crawl and have been back a few times after that. Every time, we opt to sit at the bar. They have house infused liquors, build your own tacos, nachos or bowls and every time I'm impressed. This time I remembered to take pictures. I built me a bowl this time with jalapeño lime shrimp and blackened cod with all the trimmings. My friend got 3 tacos and could only eat 2 because they are double wrapped in corn tortillas. We tried the freaky tiki and the figgy bourbon. All was amazing! Love this place and the staff are awesome!

Nostalgic spot because I used to go to their NH location. The waitress was nice and the inside was their classic fun vibe. The queso's were not as good as I remembered at their NH location but the tacos were better! I love the stoner shell with all the toppings and steak

My favorite for tacos. Always fast, so many variations to choose from! The drinks are interesting and tasty. Parking can be tricky but it's free after 6pm on the street. There's mockcocktails for non- drinkers. We originally came here as part of a haunted pub crawl and have returned multiple times. I do the build it yourself tacos. The salsa are really good. I had the Figgy Bourbon and Freaky Tiki, both very good but Figgy wins the best cocktail.

Our server Nelson gave us the perfect drink and appetizer suggestions for lunch. Tacos were incredible, margaritas were delicious, and the service was fast, friendly, and helpful. This is our third time trying Barrio on our visit to Salem, and they haven't disappointed yet!

Life.Changing.Tacos! Yup, they are that darn good! Came here for a lunch date on Friday afternoon. We started with some of their signature margaritas, which were interesting and refreshing! Then we tried the trio amigos, balsamic glazed guacamole with sundried tomatoes and artichokes; it sounded weird but worked very well. Salsa Roja was as expected, I might have liked a bit more heat, but that is on me for not asking, and lastly in the trio we tried their corn salsa, out of everything in the trio this was a big miss and should be avoided, sorry Barrios! For tacos, bus and I each had one of the selections, in their unique combo shells, I was in HEAVEN eating this. Then, we each created two tacos from their unique build-it-yourself menu. What a fun, interactive idea. I couldn't finish all my tacos. But days later, I am still drooling over the well-seasoned, very well-cooked tacos. Service was exceptional. And just take a look at the decor; it's so much fun. We will be back, probably sooner rather than later!

This place looked really cool. Very trendy. But the meat didn't have any flavor. Both the beef and the shrimp were not very tasty. We tried to get a street taco and it was pretty bad. They 'El Jeffe' wasn't horrible, but you taste just the hot sauce. It was pretty quick, but a bit more style over substance.

Stopped here on our way through Salem on a road trip. It was a late lunch, early dinner so it wasn't busy...which I enjoy. The vibe was good and the theming was on point. They had an option to create your own taco, or you could pick from the signature ones. Either way, you can't go wrong ‍. The only part I didn't love was the drink, I had the elderflower Fresca and the only flavor I could taste was lemon, so I didn't love it.

I usually avoid leaving negative reviews, but I believe in being transparent since it really helps others decide where to eat. So here's my experience: My husband ordered a build-your-own taco with flap steak--he got four fried tacos. Unfortunately, the meat was tough, dry, and fell apart; to me, it tasted more like beef jerky than steak. My friends and I tried the chicken taco with fried taco shell, flour tortilla, and chorizo. It was okay, but not something I'd order again. I also had a side of rice and black beans, which was decent but quite small. On the bright side, the drinks were good, the staff friendly and attentive, and the place had a cool vibe. Next time, I'd likely stick to tapas and drinks only. I am Mexican and the food is as more like a fast food Taco Bell.

Second time here and was actually surprised at the service but I will get to that in a second. Ambiance is super cool and is what drew me into the restaurant the first time I went. The food is what brought me back the second time. We got the chips and 3 dips (a pineapple guac, queso blanco, and buffalo chicken queso) red sauce is on the house so we got that as well. All delicious! Our drinks were awesome too. Waitress was great at the beginning and then disappeared for like 20 minutes. We had ordered a second round of drinks and she never came back. Even the table next to us had the same thing happen to them. She finally came back, we asked for the check and she said she had just rung in the second round of drinks. We said ok that's fine. Waited another 15-20 min for the drink to arrive and again to pay for the check. We wanted to eat more as well but the service made the experience frustrating. Definitely not writing this place off, but hope that was just a one off and not typical.

Amazing food. I got a custom bowl and it was so flavorful and creative. My favorite parts of it were the pineapple slaw and the cilantro lime aioli. The service was a bit slow, but the host and our waiter were very helpful and kind. The restaurant itself was so cool. The playlist and music they had on was fire, and the murals on the walls were so cool. Great place! read more

You ever been so hungry that you look forward to whatever you eat. I ate 4 tacos in a few minutes & let me tell you ... Waiter? 10/10 Best part was my Mexican waiter! He was so nice! Appetizers? 5/10 Chip & sauces were decent. Lobster cheese sauce was definitely not real lobster. Tacos? 2/10 Steak was cold. The soft corn tortillas were not warmed up. I've been there 3 times since they opened. The first time I just drank. Every tequila I asked for was out of stock. Beer taps were out. Why have a drink menu? Anyway, they were brand new so I cut them some slack, and even pointed out spelling errors on their menus. I.e., it's casa NobLE. Not NobEL. Second time I went for food. They also didn't have any of the tequila on their menu then. 15min after I ordered food, they came back and said they were out of an ingredient. I subbed it, and tacos came out stone cold. I cut them some slack. They were new, and I assumed some of the tacos sat there while the last one was finished. 3rd time I went there, out of even more tequila. Tacos came out stone cold again. These instances were weeks apart mind you. My feedback is, train your people better and admit when you're wrong. Spend money to make money. Don't have a menu of alcohol if you have none in stock. The concept of scantron ordering is flawed for Salem. It's a suburb over the age of 30. Have a normal menu. And prepare your food better. C'mon, cold tacos? I can't even think about eating there again. Such a shame for a cool space with great staff. read more

I've only heard of barrio when going up to Portsmouth NH and this Salem location was just as delicious and atheistically pleasing! The tiki freaky spicy margarita is a must!!!! And I love the build Your own tacos option but the prefixed special menu items always sound and come out perfectly there's no need to build your own taco! Great service is always a plus and since it's new in Salem it isn't that packed yet and only a couple minutes off of Essex street def worth the walk read more

Been wanting to try this place for a while since it took over kokeshi's old spot - love the build your own taco concept, but I wish there were more options (cheese/different types of beans) to choose from. We ended up trying Coca Cola steak, sirloin, pulled pork, and chicken, which were all great! We ordered a couple of tacos as the "stoner" option and I wish the cheese/chorizo went all around the taco and not just on the bottom of it. I wish the Coca Cola steak pieces were cut a bit smaller or the meat a little more tender- it was difficult to bite without having to swallow the whole piece, but the flavor was good. A couple of our tacos were missing things ordered (no salsa on one taco, got a green goddess instead of stoner, and got sour cream instead of white queso). The staff were really nice and attentive and the cherry blossom margaritas were also very tasty. Atmosphere was fun and the decor is really awesome to look at. Hard to compete with howling wolf up the street, but I would give this place another try! read more

I'll preface this by saying that I was there at the start of their busiest season. The city was packed with tourists. There also aren't many options for late night food in Salem. We went on a Thursday evening and the place was pretty empty but we still had a 20 min wait, which was fine. The kitchen was probably backed up. Drinks were ok but over priced. Service was incredibly slow. The worst part is that the tacos were terrible. They were out of almost everything and our server didn't tell us until after we filled out the "build your own" form. We had to completely change our orders, causing further delay. The chicken was salty, the tacos were cold. The shrimp wasn't cooked right. The guac is clearly premade from a bag and tasted awful. Our server was nice but inattentive. Would not go back. Skip it if you're visiting Salem. read more

Absolute bummer.I love the Haverhill location but the Salem one is atrocious. Our server was awful Never asked if we wanted refills on drinks,Never asked how our food was,I had to flag her down for a refill on chips,Super lazy and could have cared less.She stood by the computer the whole time looking bored. The food was meh.The shrimp was rubbery.Cooked hours before hand and sat in a steamtable forever. Thankfully I had a gift card because I'd have been pissed having to pay for this. I'll continue giving my business to the Haverhill and portsmith location but I'll never step in the Salem one again read more

I came here in result to a video I had seen on instagram. I went during the weekend so I had in mind it would be busy. However, for a table/seat for one person, I waited an hour. For one taco, I waited half an hour. It was cold. I had ordered another item with the taco but it never arrived. The taco was really good as was the traditional guac and chips dish. The sassy pineapple drink I got was also really good. The staff were really friendly which was lovely. But it is greatly understaffed. It was easy for the employee who served my table to remove that item that never arrived. He did offer to have it ordered but frankly I just wanted to leave as I didn't want to keep waiting and possibly just get cold food again. He was really empathetic. I liked it was also easy to pay with card and get your receipt digitally. read more

Honestly my third mediocre time here so it's time to leave a review. The tacos are good and it's a good concept to fill out a sheet so you can pick your exact shell, toppings, and garnish. But it takes over 20 minutes to get a drink even when the restaurant is 40% full. It makes no sense. Why would a restaurant not want the patrons to buy more drinks while they wait? They bring the food out in 7 minutes when it takes 20 min to get a drink. Anyway read more

Ordering these were too confusing because if you want three different tacos you need to make two different sheets. I wish you could just order from the waitress. What's the point in having a waitress if you cant order through them instead of a paper. However the food was off the walls amazing and so were the margaritas. Now that I know how to order lol, I would go there everytime I visit Salem! They should also make the tables bigger. The middle piece of the table is too big for our food, drinks and other stuff to fit on that small table!!! read more

After being a vegetarian for over 20 years I wasn't happy to discover a LOT of bacon in my "vegetarian" taco. The restaurant clearly didn't understand the significance of their error and only offered half hearted apologies. I will absolutely never be back and will never recommend this place to anyone visiting Salem. read more

So delicious! You can customize and create your own tacos. Alcohol is reasonably priced, with a margarita flight for only $15! They didn't seem that strong, but were tasty just the same. Our server was attentive and friendly, and the service was quick! I would definitely go back again and highly recommend to anyone in Salem! read more

Barrio, Barrio, Barrio what can I say. I've been to the Salem location 2x's before. Nice tacos, fun atmosphere, good drinks. This time, two of us stopped in for lunch today, Saturday, at 2pm. Host asked if we would sit at a hi-top, and we did as 4-5 of the low tables were occupied. We ordered lemonade and ice tea, the waitress took our order sheets, and then we waited, waited, and waited. At this point, all the tables were vacant, and some folks were at the bar. After 40 minutes, I went to the counter and asked if they perhaps forgot to put in our order. She said she would check. 5 minutes later, our tacos were placed on the table. I picked one up, the foil wrap and flour tortilla were cold. I stuck my finger in the tacos meat...ice cold! I went to the counter again to let them know. They offered to remake them, and I said no thank you, and we left. I'm not sure why this happened because it was not busy. There was plenty of staffing, 5 individuals that I could see. Maybe just a bad moment or a bad hour and a half? Disappointed cause their food is yummy. Perhaps we will try again. read more

This is a different kind of place. Menu lets you pick the basic item and then customize it to your liking. Lots of options for what you can add to make your perfect meal. The decor is amazing, Day of the Dead, which is perfect for Salem. I will be back a lot. read more

Had lunch here today and it was terrible. There were 4 of us and it took over 45 minutes to get 4 tacos and a bowl. My bowl had steak that was sliced in to huge long slices but they don't have knives so attempting to cut the steak with a spork was ridiculous. Also, we witnessed a server lifting her shirt several times and pick at something on her stomach then serve food. We were totally grossed out by her so we will never be back. read more

I've been to this place probably a dozen times. Drinks are always good. Food is also almost always good. I want so badly for this place to do better. 9/10 times I've been, there's at least one mistake with the food. One example tried to order a taco with Carolina reaper sauce on it "HOT HOT HOT" the menu says. And 4/4 times I've tried to order this there has been no sauce on it. When asked why? the explanation was "oh they probably ran out of it". Maybe at least communicate that so I can get something different? Frustrating getting a bland chicken taco when you wanted your mouth burned off.... I want to love this place so bad but am consistently disappointed in some way every time I go. read more

As an NH resident I frequent Barrio's Portsmouth location. I found myself in Salem this week with friends and was looking for a decent restaurant to eat at.... and there is a Barrio in Salem now!! I was beyond excited. The space is vibrant and beautiful just like their Portsmouth location -- very artistic design to these stores -- and I was seated immediately, ordered a Margarita Perfecto, and as usual the drink was strong and tasty. I ordered 2 steak & shrimp tacos and their special taco. Nobody does tacos like they do. The food came out quick and was absolutely fantastic. I had a couple of the house margs after that. Altogether I was there 45-60mins and was able to have a full meal and several delicious drinks with minimal wait... and the prices are unbeatable. Love the new location!!! read more

The biggest inconsistency was the service. Out of the four days we visited, only one day stood out as having exceptional service. Most of the time we had to flag someone down for drink refills, order more oysters, ask for Parmesan cheese, or even leave our credit card hanging off the edge of the table before someone would notice we were ready to pay. Now, onto the food because that's what kept bringing us back. The clam chowder and lobster bisque were the true stars of the menu. These are the kinds of soups you'll still be thinking about long after your vacation is over. The lobster bisque was unbelievably rich, creamy, and packed with generous pieces of lobster. The clam chowder had the perfect consistency and, unlike so many others, was loaded with tender clams instead of mostly potatoes. The one-and-a-half-pound lobster was sweet, tender, and practically melted in my mouth. I wasn't in love with my pasta dish. The scallops, however, completely stole the show. They tasted as though they had been pulled from the ocean just moments before being cooked perfectly fresh, sweet, and delicate. Unfortunately, the pasta itself was undercooked and lacked flavor, even after the Parmesan cheese finally arrived. The strawberry shortcake was the perfect dessert on a hot Fourth of July afternoon. It was light, fresh, and exactly what we wanted to finish the meal. And the oysters? Absolutely phenomenal. Every single day. They were consistently fresh, delicious, and one of the main reasons we kept coming back. While the service has plenty of room for improvement, the kitchen is doing something truly special. The quality of the seafood alone was enough to make us return day after day, and that's about the highest compliment I can give a restaurant.

I had gone online to the NORTH SHORE DINNING PAGE on Facebook and asked people about their experiences with the restaurant in the last two days and here's what people said: "great, tender meatballs", "great eggplant parmigiana", "very good experience". .... And what we found out is that they were right. Those things were all true! Now.... As to what we ordered: I got the grilled octopus. It was the only partial miss on the menu. Arugula just doesn't make a very good sauce and it was a pretty bad base for what would otherwise might have been a great appetizer. My mother got the Caesar salad. It was good. It's a hard thing to screw up. My father ordered the meatballs. They were amazing and delicious - just like Facebook promised. The tzatziki sauce was good. Maybe not as good as mine, but good nonetheless. So dinner.... Mine was the Chicken Saltimboca. It was so good that I'd bathe in the sauce they make with it. I loved eating forkfuls of the chicken with bites of the mashed potatoes. That was really luxuriant. My mother had the Eggplant parmigiana and she wiped out the entire plate. She loved it. My father.... Beef tenderloin tips. Maybe cooked slightly too much, but delicious. He wiped out the plate. To drink.... I was out of the hospital and recovering from brain tumor surgery, so I had the hard cider (3.5% BV), my father had the Peroni (Italian) beer, and my mother had the Bud light. I tasted the Peroni and liked it very much. The hard cider had almost no sweetness to it. It was dry as a higher end brut champagne.... Which actually set off the meal really nicely. My tastes weren't clashing and that was good. Our waiter, Sean, was great. Ask for him! We left a $32 tip, so the bill came to $197.85

We we were told later by a friendlier Salemite at a bar with a better vibe that there is a Massachusetts state law that prohibits having two drinks at once at a bar. Fair enough. Had our server told us that, unfortunately, he wasn't allowed to give us two drinks at once -- instead of making us feel like idiots/degenerates for daring to ask -- we probably would have dropped a lot of vacation money there that night. Oh well; we had a great time at the other places we went.
