For what I was expecting, I was disappointed. My husband and I chose here for our 6 year wedding anniversary. We were given a 40 min wait time, about 30 min in my husband and I got a seat at the bar. I was charged $33 for 2 dirty martini with Tito's. That is Boston prices in Middleboro. Burnt ends were ok, but meat was tough at times and gritty. My husband got the brisket Mac n cheese, I got the NY sirloin with rice and broccoli. Both my husband and I agreed it was a mix of overpriced SYSCO food and the "two crazy millennials with dream to make a restaurant!" Which translates to paying too much money for mediocre food. Jessica was our server and she really rocked it! Super attentive, knows to bring the dirty rocks without being asked! Amazing. I sat at the bar for dinner by myself and it was pretty good. I got the bang bang shrimp tacos and the waygu burger. The tacos were spectacular but the hamburger was ok. The drinks were great as well. The bartender that waited on me was nice and attentive. Good Food Crowded - generally a good sign. Definitely a whiskey bar with an impressive menu as well. Many dishes and cocktails tend to favor sweet tastes (several things both food and drink with maple syrup for instance) or bacon. Cocktails are good but on average will set you back about $12. Tables are standard pub style. Not too noisy. Comfortable seating. I had the steak special ($32) with mashed potatoes, asparagus, gravy. Steak was excellent - gravy not so good. Apps ordered Calamari and Sticky ribs appetizer were very good. Stuffed quahog was well made. Service was good but slow and she had to be asked twice for a couple of things. We have eaten at Charred Oak many times, but in the last year or so, the quality of food has gone completely downhill. I got the wagyu burger medium and it came out well done and dried out. My wife got the chicken marsala which was HORRIBLE. Chicken was like rubber, which means it was microwaved. The marsala sauce was extremely salty and too much beef broth, not enough marsala balance. Had lunch here on the 23rd of December with a large group. The restaurant had plenty of space and though it was large it had a cozy atmosphere. Our table was set up for us when we arrived and the staff was fabulous and the service was excellent. Very attentive to our wishes and desires. The food was just as spectacular. My appetizer was the candid bacon, which is simply delicious. I had a mouthwatering chicken cordon bleu with rice and mixed vegetables. It was a large portion and very filling. For dessert I had a creme brulee that was just right. Others had prime rib, mussels, scallops, hamburgers and everyone raved about the whiskey mashed potatoes. So if you haven't been to the Charred Oak Tavern you should definitely put it on your radar for 2024. read more

I'm from California, but visit Massachusetts often as my parents live here. I rely on Yelp to help me find good eats. I'm truly happy I came across this restaurant because it'll definitely be on my line up each visit. It was my second time here and the food and ambience did not disappoint. I ordered the charred maple bourbon glazed salmon with broccoli and bourbon glazed carrots. I gave my meal a 10/10. My dish was very flavorful and perfectly made. I also tried the ribs and fish tacos. The rib meat was tender and delicious. Fell off the bone delicious. Although the fish tacos were good they were nothing special for me personally. I wanted some prime rib and heard through some friends that this place had good sized portions and that the food was great, they weren't wrong. We had a nice welcome and were seated straight away as it was around 4:30. Our waitress came over and took our drink orders and she was very pleasant and professional. We received our drink and made our orders. I had the Cesar salad and can say that it was one of the best I have had in a long time. It didn't take long for our main meals to come out and they were done to perfection, the crust on the prime rib was incredible and the prime rib was butter knife tender. The French fries were also incredibly tasty as well and I am not really a French fry eater. My wife's fillet minion was cooked perfectly and we both enjoyed every aspect of our meal and service. Overall the food, service and ambiance was excellent. I'd like to give it 5 Stars except for the lamb chops. I've had them at many restaurants and I expected them to live up to the same experience. Usually they are charred and have a delicious taste. These were bland. I called the restaurant to let them know because I felt strongly they should know. Our party of 6 spent 450 dollars. I spoke to Chef Dave and he explained he was not there this particular night. He also wondered if the chops were from the purveyor they used. Went February 7th for dinner figured we'd try again. Sat in side room waitress was good. Got 16oz prime rib Luke warm like it was sitting out on a plate for an hour. Baked potato showed up not the loaded baked and butter wouldn't melt. They must cook them in the morning pretty sad serving cold food and I mean cold. Rib I would give a 4 because of it being cold and 45 percent fat. Broccoli was hot and cooked just rite. As far as bar service goes we each had 3 drinks that took for ever to come extremely pain full as the waitress said the bar staff should all be fired. My wife and I have sat at the bar a few times. They stand around talking to each other or yacking with a taster. And pay very little attention to the waitresses or dinning patrons at the bar. Owner needs to step up to the plate and start cooking and fire every blow hard behind the bar. At one time chard oak was an 8 plus now it's a 3 at best. They had an amazing special on prime rib once a week and when they had it daily, the quality was not the same, and the flavor was not there and the color looked very pink on the on either side I've never seen prime rib like that in my life, and I am a devotee of Washington DC prime rib restaurant since the late 1970s until about late two 2015 or so when their quality unfortunately was not the same and it was not aged as well as it had been for many many years. My mom, sister and I went there on a Sunday afternoon on the way to do some shopping. My sister and I had the onion soup as a starter and it was next to perfect. My sister had the steak tips, red bliss potatoes and carrots. They were well seasoned and delicious. My mom had the seared scallops, baked potato and carrots and she loved them. I had the French dip and Caesar salad and it was awesome. Our waitress was very attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. She even left a pitcher of water for us, which we appreciated considering that you could tell that the tap that they got the water from hadn't been cleaned and you could definitely taste the soda. One thing we didn't know being that this was our first time going to the restaurant ( and being that it's football season, so there isn't a lot that the restaurant can do ) is that it was definitely a very noisy meal. We had a disappointing experience at the Charred Oak Tavern, despite the manager's professionalism in resolving the issue. (With many phone calls from my friends and I) The menu was creative and fun, but the food didn't live up to expectations, even though the management was accommodating, this situation warranted the owners of the restaurant to reach out to all three of us. This is how bad this situation was. The real problem was the poor customer service from our waitress, Jess. We were initially told that there was no shrimp cocktail available, but to our surprise, it did arrive at our table. However, it was warm and had just been cooked, which was not what we expected. It was thoughtless... who wants to eat warm shrimp cocktail? Additionally, when we asked for fried scallops, Jess claimed the kitchen wouldn't do it, yet they offered fried scallops as a side dish in their surf and turf option. This inconsistency raised suspicions about her willingness to accommodate our requests. Everything was met with "no" and with very short, rude answers. Although the menu clearly stated that some sides were extra, Jess should have reminded us of this to avoid any confusion. Instead, she seemed more interested in chatting with her coworkers than attending to our needs. She was rude, dismissive, and would often roll her eyes or provide short answers. When she brought the check, she tossed it on the table. The prices were also steep, with sodas costing $4.50 each. Given the 45-minute drive we made to try this restaurant based on a colleague's recommendation, we were expecting a much better experience. Instead, we were disappointed and frustrated. We left that restaurant so upset that we definitely vowed to never return. Although this review may sound relentless. I want to reassure the reader that it was that bad. It was expensive. The food was OK. It wasn't great... But they're plenty of great restaurants out there so I don't need to go to a restaurant where the service is mediocre and actually borderline abusive. Even after the manager resolved the issue, we still had to follow up with multiple calls to get the matter fully settled, which is why we requested a full refund, which they did provide. What was even more concerning was that the management mentioned they had received several complaints about Jess's behavior in the past, yet seemingly, no action had been taken to address these issues. This lack of accountability and prioritization of customer satisfaction is troubling. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry, I understand the challenges that come with it. However, there's no excuse for the horrible customer service we received. In my opinion, Jess's behavior was unacceptable, and I'm usually a proponent of forgiveness and second chances. However, her treatment of us was truly egregious, and given the history of complaints, I believe more decisive action should have been taken. Quite honestly and regrettably, I don't recommend this restaurant and would advise others to avoid it. It takes one server to ruin a restaurant, and Jess did it. We made sure to share our experience with the colleague who recommended the restaurant, as I believe it's essential to warn others about poor service. Unfortunately, this experience has soured our opinion of the Charred Oak Tavern, and we won't be returning. I don't think the management or the owners of this restaurant fully understand the power of online reviews or the power of "word of mouth" -in this horrible economy, where people are just getting by there is no way that I would recommend this restaurant. Pretty good food. The potato skins are more like baked potatoes but the bacon and cheese on top were really good. The mac and cheese is good, tastes like white cheddar with spiral noodles and breadcrumbs. The pretzels bites are the bites you can buy in the box at Costco so that was kind of disappointing. We went for my friend's birthday dinner and the service did not disappoint. Our server was very pleasant and on point. She checked in just enough and recommended the boozy root beer and my friend was very pleased with it. Was an avid fan years ago but don't know what has happened. Went tonight with some friends. The place was empty. Service was great. Food was terrible. I got a strip which was flavorless and filled with fat and tendons. Wife and her friend got the loaded chicken. It wasn't 2 breasts like the menu claims, it was one breast cut in half. It wasn't good. Other friend got the linguica risotto special. Tiny serving and he said it had no flavor. Guess this is the reason it was empty on a Friday... Disappointed based on this experience and hope it's just an anomaly. We will be back but if it's like this it will be the last time. read more

That is usually my first step :) but we could wait to ge it to it- The bacon. Get the bacon app - it comes strung on a little clothesline. And the ribs. Dear gosh those were the best ribs we had- perfect for an appetizer to share. I had the summer salad with a wonderful citrus vinaigrette and chicken- large enough I brought half home. Sometimes the service runs the food. This was one of those times. We went in for lunch and the attention provided didn't seem the same as other tables. We waited so long to wave down the waitress who seemed to purposely not look in our direction until I got up from table and went to the bar where she was standing and talking to ask for more sauce. She really ruined the mood otherwise food alone was really good (other than the frozen restaurant depot fries). The fried chicken was one of the most seasoned flavored sandwiches I have had and was really good. So was the mashed potatoes!! Onion rings were fresh and would have been perfect if there was some seasoning in the batter but was still good. The prices were a tad much but nothing crazy and manageable. Two bartenders were really nice and helpful, but unfortunately the one who waited on us clearly couldn't wait to get off his shift and drink with his friends.
