It has been years since I caught BART from downtown Oakland to the BART Bay Fair Station. My brother and I took a train ride to this station to meet up with my friends for lunch at Harry's Hofbrau. In the past, it was my go to station for shopping at the Bay Fair Shopping Mall. The location was okay and convenient for shopping needs and the movie theater. I don't even know what businesses are left at the shopping mall. Then there is no telling when I will catch a train from downtown Oakland to Bay Fair. read more

Bart attendant has mental health issues like they don't get respected for their job or something and takes it out on Bart riders. I asked to use their restroom which is a common thing, asked politely, but the attendant had an issue with her job and was saying you need to say hi how are you. Wtf. The attendant needs to say hi , how are you. I'm like I'm not doing your work ma'am sorry you don't feel good about your job. Tough. And they expect to get the Bart fares up for what kind of rude attendant service , idk. But lucky, I just go use McD, or something. Talk about Merry Christmas. "No cocktail service" This is my usual transfer point if I'm on the Fremont train and need to transfer to Dublin. It's pretty much what you might expect. Reasonably well maintained, but not all that great. There are plenty of covered seating areas with reasonably comfortable benches. "Help us to keep a BART safe and clean, and also avoid a $250 fine." Comforting messages were piped in every few minutes. The station seems to be pretty well maintained. There were no overflowing trash cans. read more

I've personally never had any issues - but people don't feel safe taking bart. Not that clean and going in an underground tunnel to San Francisco in Earthquake territory never sat well with me. I would recommend not having so many haircuts. Keep them guessing crazy homeless or hipster. I wear beat up skate shoes and believe that a once a year haircut is plenty. No tattoos necessary to look tough. Really - if you travel with a friend or two Uber is cheaper. Why take bart unless its last resort. read more

November 2022 Update. I am very surprised at the wheel chair accessibility at this station for those who need to get off and on at this station. They must have recently installed a system at this station at the end of the platform which has a place to tag clipper on it and Tag off so you don't have to walk to the main fare gates anymore to "check out" Just tap your card, the plastic gate opens, go out the elevator and you're all set. Go back in, Go up the elevator, tag your card to get back in, the gate opens, you're all set as well. read more

Of all the stations I use, this one seems to have the least discipline. Fare jumpers get away with it because there is no one to stop them. The 2 restrooms are non-functional half of the time, and if they are open, they are very dirty inside. Teenagers are always riding their skateboards *on the platform*, station agent does nothing even though they see everything in surveillance videos in their booth. read more

In between 2-3 stars. I get harassed here from time to time and parking can be a beast after 745am. Make sure you pay for the spot when you get into the station. My feelings about this station can be put like this: " three stars because I have not been accosted here but also only three stars because I feel like it might happen one day." Transfer trains here. But don't put your clipper card in the "insert card here" slot. It's got an RFID chip in it, so you place it on top of the turnstile deal and the silly plastic looking things spread for passage. I have never ridden BART before, and I live out of area. This is the absolute worst excuse for public transit I have ever seen. There are no directions on how to get where I want to go anywhere. All of the audible information that plays periodically is not loud enough to hear. And I'm supposed to be looking for a blue line at a station where the only distinguishing color that matches any of the routes is green. Yeah. Whoever designed this please rethink your occupation. Nothing wrong with this stop. There's tons of shopping right off the stop. We don't BART here to shop since it's a simple drive from Hayward. We end up here on the weekends when there's no direct BART from the City to Hayward. It was difficult when the tracks were being worked on. We did the bus thing once... never again! The East Bay BART stations seem pretty ghetto in general. This one is marked as the transfer station for the Fremont line. I suppose one could actually board earlier than Bay Fair but to be honest, the other stations scare me even more so I guess Bay Fair is probably my best bet. That doesn't mean I like it. Since the Fremont line stops running pretty early, I find myself here after 7PM or so. It's dark and cold. The platform is really high above the ground and there is no railing so it looks really easy to just slip and fall on the tracks or worse down below. The crowd that hangs out here oftentimes is scary. This is coming from a small Asian female, so keep that in mind. Sure you have the average citizens that are probably commuters, but the rest of the crowd- who ARE these people. I am actually quite wary of pulling out my phone so I tend to stick with larger crowds of average citizens to not single myself out. I dread transferring at this station. It's probably irrational and I haven't had any incidents yet, but when you're alone, you can never be too careful. read more

Even though the San Leandro Bart Station is closer to home by a mile or so, I drive to the Bay Fair Station to take Bart as the fare from here is a $1.30 cheaper than the fare from SL. The parking is also about 50 cents cheaper. Parking fees have been going up every few months or so though, so the Bay Fair parking fee may catch up to San Leandro's in no time. This is not the cleanest station. It's not unusual to find empty food and drink containers on the floor or benches at 7:30 in the morning. It's a transfer station, so it probably gets more riders passing through it compared to other stations. The station has two parking lots. The one to the east of the station (Bay Fair Mall side) fills up by 7:45 am and the one to the west fills up around 8 am. Do not leave any valuables in plain sight, as my car has been broken into here once!!! The thieves took my car stereo! If you need to grab something to eat and don't have a lot of time, there is a kiosk selling donuts, hot dogs, chips, etc by the fare gates. Because the platform is elevated and open to the elements, I've seen many a beautiful sunrise at this station. Downside is it can get pretty cold especially if it's a windy day. read more

I don't really know the criteria for rating a Bart station but here goes... The Bay Fair Bart Station offers free parking in the front and back. It offers at least two hundred plus car spaces. From the back you must walk down a flight of stairs and back up another flight. It's like an underground alley that is a little creepy during the nighttime. During business weekdays expect the parking lots to be jam pack full of cars. It is impossible to attain a parking space after 9:30 AM. If the parking lot is full, you'll have to park in Century Movie Theater parking lot. There are signs that state "Customers Only", yet everyone seems to park there and I haven't seen anyone get a parking ticket. It's a pretty good walk from the movie theater lot to the bart station, about 2 blocks (CA sized). The worst feeling is seeing your train approaching. You can probably make it if you run. Once I made it from the movie theater parking lot and onto the train in 3 minutes. While patting my sweaty forehead, I told myself to never be late ever again. On weekends it is really easy to find parking unless there is some extraordinary event taking place like New Years Eve. There always seems to be some security guards walking around the station during the morning and rush hour. It makes me feel secure; although for the rest of the day they're seem to be missing. There is a hot dog vendor right outside the station. He has your typical hot dogs, bagels, bananas, chips, and drinks. For some stuff he doesn't label the prices and sometimes comes up with his own pricing. The hot dogs are pretty awful and overpriced. Only buy something here if you're desperate. Although Bay Fair Mall is atrocious, they do have some okay food chain stores like Jamba Juice and Starbucks located near the back of the mall. For tracks and bart routes, refer to the Bart website. The Bay Fair Station is a better station than the Hayward City Hall station because it links up to more trains. The seating in the bart trains is pretty horrendous depending on which seat you get. Some seats are stained to oblivion. I don't want to know what the stains are from, but my over-active imagination sure doesn't help the situation. The smells are just as bad. The pattern of smell and sight continues to the carpet flooring. What genius thought of this? Most of the time I feel like wearing a full-body plastic suit like those government agents in ET. A gas mask wouldn't be bad either. It's a horrible feeling to know that you've taken a shower, put on clean clothes, and done your best to look presentable, to then get onto a train that feels like an unsanitary sardine can. There are some compartments of trains that have plastic seats and nonstick flooring. These compartments feel like the NYC subway trains. There are posters asking the passengers if this is a good idea. I say "HELL YEAH!!!" Bart fare isn't the greatest but it sure is convenient, fast, and better than driving. And competing with the skyrocketing gas prices, choosing the Bart/Muni is a no-brainer. Go to select vendors for discounted mass fare tickets. __ A typical Bart Station with a lot of free parking. Stay away from the shifty eyed freaks (that includes the hot dog stand) and odd luggage. read more

This is one of the transfer stops along my path in most places I need to travel to, which works for and against me. Sometimes, I look forward to this stop if I'm going South, particularly if there's no place to sit. Why? Because I can usually count on a bunch of people getting off at this stop. If I'm going North though, this stop usually makes the train much more crowded, depending on the time of day. At the station itself, while waiting on the platform, I often lose signal for internet on my phone. Parking is not free except weekends I believe (it's been awhile since I parked in the lot). You can try street parking, but sometimes it's hard to find a spot, especially during commute hour. read more

Since I travel to San Francisco once a year to attend the Intersolar conference and my sister-in-law lives in Fremont, I've learned my way around the BART system. Normally, I only use the Fremont Station to get to and from downtown San Francisco, but one of my colleagues occasionally drops me off at Bay Fair on her way home. From Bay Fair, it's an easy ride the rest of the way to Fremont. Trains are generally on schedule, and I've found the Bay Fair station to be reasonably clean and safe. The only weird thing is having to drive through the mall parking lot to get to the passenger drop off area. Thanks for having such a great transportation system, Northern California. Wish ours in Atlanta was half as efficient and far-reaching. read more

WARNING TO LADIES: Don't let your guard down for a second. THIS IS NOT A SAFE LOCATION. I have had problems EVERY SINGLE TIME I have come to this station! Expect to be harassed for money. One man literally screamed in my face when I refused him. On multiple occasions, disgusting men have tried to hit on me. Ignore them? They assume you didn't hear them, and they keep following you. Actually tell them to leave you alone? They get butt-hurt and hurl racist remarks or insult your appearance in some way. I try not to make eye contact with anyone I see here. It doesn't work. They STILL come at you. Tonight was RIDICULOUS. About 6 children were running wild-- screaming and darting around the ticket terminals like animals. Their ages ranged from about 5 to 12 years old, no parents present to stop them. The BART staff didn't care either. One of the older kids rushed at me while I had my head down looking in my purse for money. The kid screamed "SUP WIT CHU" and stuck his hand out--- I don't know what for-- and came so damn close, he nearly knocked into me. I told the kid "no", and he went INSANE. He began threatening to hit me, and he started to scream curse words/names at me while I purchased my ticket. He acted like he was going to come close again and try to actually hit me -- I yelled out "don't you come near me", hoping that the BART staff or so-called BART police would take notice that some total BS was happening. UH, NO. The lady attendant behind the glass was messing with her nails. Totally useless. BART police wasn't around. By the way, several of the ticket terminals were "out of order" so it took me even LONGER to get my ticket and get away from the thugnificent kid. I can't believe how trashy this station is. I'll completely avoid this one from now on. I don't care if I have to pay a little more to take the Castro Valley one, I'll do it. Oh, the bathrooms are sickening too. Urine and toilet paper all over the ground is a regular thing. One time I found a hypodermic needle in the corner, too. I REALLY suggest people avoid this location.... read more

Central transfer station for any BART line. BART transfers are timed accurately, so if you are transferring from one line to another, expect to move fast and get off one trait to walk across the platform to enter another. Avoid leaving your car here late at night. read more

Getting in and out of the BART station can be stressful, especially as a single woman because you have to pass through corridors which ever direction you enter and you are on your own. Not a place to be walking and texting for sure. On the platform I've had no problems except for the occasional jerk who smokes cigarettes/cigars up there and there is no place to get away from it waiting on the train. When you have asthma, it's extra annoying. The condition of the trains isn't a reflection of the station, but overall I've noticed them cleaner during the pandemic. Last week I boarded an AC broken car with dried vomit on the floor and suspicious bundles of toilet paper under two seats; I moved to the adjacent car and it was cooler and cleaner. read more

***BART is great for commuters to San Francisco (particularly for those going to Union Square, Financial District, SoMa, or Embarcadero), but it does not allow you to get everywhere around the city like the CTA does in Chicago; in addition, BART uses a fare-by-distance calculation, which might have you going back more often to (or spending more time at) the add fare/cash machines than you would have to at the CTA or other metros that use a simple flat fare pricing structure; still, BART is convenient and a relatively inexpensive way to get to San Francisco (and it sure beats having to deal with the traffic on the Bay Bridge); this BART station is a transfer station and if you are heading to Fremont from San Francisco, you will need to use the Bay Fair station*** Not all BART stations have parking, but I believe the Bay Fair station does. read more

I used this BART station for the first time two weeks ago at the beginning of my road trip down to L.A. I know, I know. Why take BART when you're going on a road trip? Well, my ride down the 5 was in the East Bay, and I couldn't very well drive out there--where would I park my car? The platform itself reminds me a lot of the Coliseum/Oakland Airport Station's platform, which isn't a good thing. Still, looks can be deceiving, and the bottom part of the station itself isn't too shady. That part reminds me of the San Leandro Station. What I don't like about this station is how complicated the parking lot is. One would think the best way to lay out a BART parking lot would be to make the station itself close to the nearest major street, with the parking lot behind it. This station is right in the middle of two parking lots. Some of the driveways approaching the station itself are one-way; others are bus-only. Good luck trying to explain to anyone picking you up where to meet you. It's also kind of shady that you have to walk through the parking lot and across a pedestrian bridge to get to the Target parking lot. I realize that a lot of this was probably built out of necessity for the space involved, but if I were a criminal, I'd hang out right at the pedestrian walkway and go after people as they walked to BART. read more

It's 0630 and you already smell like weed?? Ugh. enough said. I've long complained that cardboard cutouts could do the job better than some BART workers and this station doesn't disappoint. Instead of walking around the platform with your hand on your gun, oops I mean Taser, how about removing some those no-gooders hanging around stinking up the place with their weed smoking, weed stenched clothes and hair and fouling up the air I have to breathe as I'm actually doing something they obviously are not - trying to get to work. I'm mean just people who get up just go come to BART and hang out for the day. Who does that?? I mean REALLY?? When I go to San Francisco, I usually have to make a stop here and change trains. I really wish the place to change trains was anywhere BUT this station. Graffiti EVERYWHERE, written and scratched onto the glass and benches. Scary people lurking around. There was once a guy in the parking lot screaming with no one around. He took his shirt off and punched the air... it was also around midnight so it was pretty scary and I could not wait to leave. Tons of Parking . Bart is a great way to roll to SF. A lot better than driving . I used Bart to roll to SF to take care of some Business today . I was having a relaxing ride until we picked up Jaba the Hut and her 4 Rug Rats at the Coliseum Bart Station . Her kids were running wild thru the train and she was getting Ghetto complaining about everything in the world in a loud voice for everybody to hear.
