It's insanely loud. Like, over the top loud. Great food, very good service, and a great location... But what ruins it is they insist on cranking the techno music so loud that you can't have any kind of a conversation with anybody you're with, unless you lean in right next to each other or talk really loudly. Half the time you can't understand what the server is asking or saying. It totally ruins what would otherwise be one of our favorite spots... But because it's so loud, nobody in our family, or our friend group really enjoys going there more than once a year. Some people mentioned that the portions are small, and they are, but I actually like the fact that I don't get stuffed after leaving there. Four people can eat for 80 or $90 total, but again you have to factor in how loud it is. Did I mention it's loud? Bartaco is so yummy. I've been to both locations and both locations did not disappoint. This place will satisfy your taco craving. The quality of the meat is soft and clean. I know a quality taco when I taste one! My only complaint is that they discontinued their elotes balls. A year later and my sister and I can't forget them, rave about them, and haven't forgiven bartaco for taking them away from us. By far one of the most magical appetizers I've ever tried. The duck tacos were decadent filled with flavor and topped with perfect combinations. The meat is also so tender! Their fish tastes fresh and everything is so well thought out. How the Hell does this place have such high reviews? Chapel Hill folk will pay for dog sh%? I guess if you put a electronic spin on a menu for super overpriced food. A family of 4 leaves hungry after spending over $100.00 for tiny tacos and watered down drinks. Even the ice cubes in our water sucked. We all just laughed at how shi@%y the food was. They say that everything tastes better when you're hungry but even when I was full this place would of been amazing the fish tacos were perfectly fried and i loved the coleslaw they paired it with. Wow, wow, wow!! This place came highly recommend, and now I highly recommend this place. The service is second to none and everyone goes out of their way to make you feel welcome. On our first visit we had Danielle as our server and she was amazing! She knew the menu really well and made spot on recommendations. The pork belly was delicious!!! John, one of the managers stopped in to make sure our first visit was going well. He stayed and chatted with us a bit. His engagement was sincere and appreciated Jasper was our sever on our second visit. This was about 6-8 weeks apart and nothing had changed. Still amazing service and Jasper did a great job of subtlety acknowledging our mother's birthday. This was at our request, she's kinda shy... ;-) My only negative comment is the price. These are some expensive tacos, but they are made with the absolutely best quality ingredients. So, you do get what you pay for, just manage your expectations. What a great place in chapel hill. Pleasantly surprised by the authenticity of the food, and the fact that they offer pork posole which is not common for Mexican places to offer. Having gone to Carolina in the 90's and remembering this place as just the mall I wasn't sure what to expect. We got here about 30-40 minutes before closing and everyone was still super nice and accommodating. I've been here a couple times and the food and drinks are good depending who is working. I came in today to order my ginger mint tea and was not impressed by the drink or costumer service . For almost 5 dollars the tea comes in a good size plastic bottle . Today I was given a to go cup that was made by a rude curly hair bartender who was getting mad at her coworkers telling them to " fuckin make it themselves " . She eventually ended up storming off and I asked for the original plastic bottle the tea goes in . I was given it and it had no hint of ginger in it . Well, I must say Bartaco hit the mark. It was incredibly delicious. AND the ambience was wonderful. Outdoor seating + margaritas + cocktails. Look, I don't ask for much on my birthday and Bartaco did not disappoint! My husband and I ordered fish tacos (BOMB!) and the pork belly tacos (also BOMB); house margarita with salt (BOMB) and this pineapple cucumber drink that has a name that is escaping me right now :(. They have a full online menu that enables you to order and pay online, which is pretty convenient. Best part: server gave us coupons for more BOMB taco after we checked out. First thing I was blown away by was that both of the people who served me were from the same part of the northeast as me. They were also the friendliest, most engaging and informative people I've spoken to. Honestly best service I've had in forever The second thing that amazed me was the quality of the food. I'm glad I finally got to try Bartaco. The coastal-themed atmosphere is really inviting and our server was friendly and attentive. We started with the plantains and the pork tamale. Holy moly, the plantains were so good! Like "best plantains we've ever eaten" good. Please do yourself a favor and order these. The pork tamale was substantial and tasty. For tacos, my husband ordered the pork belly, the chicken chorizo, the Baja fish, and the mojo pork. I ordered the pork belly, the rock shrimp, and the falafel. All of the ingredients in the tacos tasted fresh, but I'm not sure that either of us were blown away. In addition to the tamale having a good kick of spice (presumably from green chilies), several of the tacos we tried were spicy as well. While we wouldn't shy away from a menu item because it is spicy, heat sort of builds the more you have, so we'd love to see Bartaco indicate on their menu which items are spicy so we'd have an idea and could judge just how many spicy items to order (for us, it would have been less). Also, our waitress mentioned that we should fill out one menu card per check, so my husband and I shared the card and she explained that all the tacos would be brought out together on the same tray. This made eating a little more challenging since we had to share the small tray, so next time I'd ask that they be divided up by person. read more

Bartaco is a favorite for my wife and I and an incredible place to bring friends who are out of town. The cool west-coast beach vibe sets the perfect atmosphere for a good date night or to impress friends from out of town. Also this place has THE BEST MARGARITA in the triangle area! They literally have a custom made tequila that they use in order to make the beautiful creation. A couple suggestions: -Always get the Trio (Guac and two salsas) and experience with the separate sauces they place on your table. -Make sure you ask about the secret taco! There is a new one each month and it is never listed on the menu. The secret taco for this month (1/19) is the Crispy Brussel Sprout Taco (yes I said Brussel sprouts) with curry carrot puree, candied pepitas, and pickled onions. So good! -My wife loves their pork tamales so if you are a tamale person like my wife is you can thank us by getting one of these. -My favorite taco is the pork belly. I absolutely ADORE bartaco and have been at this Chapel Hill location many times. This is my #1 place whenever I want tacos! I usually order their Cauliflower tacos without the Tzatziki sauce because I'm vegan. I definitely recommend this one even if you don't have any dietary restrictions. I find that around three tacos will fill me up. Their vegan tamale was one of my favorites but unfortunately they took it off their menu. I'm not sure if it was a seasonal item but hopefully it will come back sometime. I'll also order the chips and salsa roja as an appetizer. Not too spicy but packs a bunch of flavor! Whenever I'm here with friends they also really enjoy this appetizer. Definitely recommend it. I've brought my parents here for a family dinner before and they also loved their meals. My mother's favorite here is the baja fish. She doesn't like anything heavy so it's a great option if you're looking for something on the lighter side. I ordered the roasted duck rice bowl and he enjoyed it. The portion is on the lighter side so I would recommend getting a side or a taco along with it. The ambiance in the area is great! I especially love their outdoor seating because it's so gorgeous. The staff is especially friendly and are extremely helpful in answering any questions you have. Due to the virus, they are using an online ordering system right now but I had no issues with it. The app itself was pretty simple to use and there is still staff around if you need assistance. This place is located at University Mall so there is plentiful parking but sometimes this place can be pretty busy. Before the pandemic, this place would be pretty packed so I recommend calling in beforehand to see how long the wait times are. They also have an app I've used before to get on the waitlist right before I go to the restaurant. I didn't find the app particularly helpful but it could be useful for when they are really busy. I was drawn to bartaco after hearing good things from friends and after walking by and seeing it on my way in and out of the next door Silverspot Cinema. The first thing that you'd notice about bartaco is its unique feel. There was a large utilization of wood in the decor of the restaurant, and the ambiance felt very well thought out; a very pleasant place to enjoy a meal! The waiter was very friendly and helpful to us, while at the same time giving us much space. Even the bathrooms were enjoyable to use, pretty clean and nicely decorated. I'd rate the atmosphere of this place very highly. About the food: it was delicious. I was sharing with someone else and we got 8 tacos between the two of us. The highlights from all the different tacos we got were the roasted duck, baja fish, and glazed pork belly tacos. Most other tacos we got were very tasty, however the mojo pork carnitas taco fell a bit flat; it was too salty unfortunately and felt like my lips were burning. We ended with the churros, which were amazingly delicious; maybe some of the best churros I've ever had. I would highly recommend most of the tacos on the menu, aside from that carnitas dish, but only if you're willing to spend a decent amount of money. These dishes are by far not cheap, as each taco can be finished in 3, maybe 2 bites and cost ~$3. You'll feel satiated with 4-5 tacos, but when each bite I take costs $1, I felt like my money wasn't completely being spent in a worthwhile manner. In the end, great place for the most part! I was stumped because the menu doesn't go into detail as to what was in the bowl. I had an amazing waitress named Nataly who was patient and super kind. She had no issues going over the contents of the bowl with me which made the experience easy. I will admit that I am not a fan of Cauliflower at all BUT, I went ahead and said I'd at least give it a try. When the meal arrived it looked amazing! The Cauliflower bowl is so good I plan on coming back to get it before the week is over! This is coming from a person who hates them. This bowl was soooooo delicious. Every ingredient placed in the bowl was fresh and yummy! We also grabbed a side of guac and chips. The chips are unique. They are whole tortilla shells that you can break into smaller chips if need be. The guac was ok. We also tried a side of the cucumber salad dish... PERFECT again! We event tried several of the desserts. During our visit they happened to have a keylime pie which was in a mini mason like jar. Listen to ME... it was so light and airy I could have had several of those jars. Overall I was so impressed with this place. All the way down to the decor. I will admit it was hard to locate as the sign over the building wasn't lit on this particular night. The only way I found it was by pulling the car over and reading yelp reviews lol. DRINKS: We dined here on a "Sunday Funday" afternoon, on St.Patrick's Day and decided to eat and drink green as a fun foodie theme. Every week in March as part of their "margarita madness" , they will have a featured cocktail. This one featured muddled avocados and was quite interesting consistency wise, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. My favorite cocktail is the Reviver..if you love the combination of mango and mint, try this! NON TACOS: No better way to start than with fresh guacomole, chips and their roja and verde sauces. Order small or large..and you can get a kids version of the guacomole without the spices of you choose. Tried corn fritters for the first time which comes with a pretty tasty dipping sauce on the side. The half roasted chicken is great to share. My kid gets the drumstick and we enjoy the rest! TACOS: We have our faves..the fish taco and pork belly are amazing! We also got the duck and pork carnitas but I wish I had more of the first two. For a limited time..you can ask for the secret taco, which is : a Crispy Avocado taco. Tempura battered crispy and creamy avocado taco on a tangy and crispy veracruz slaw topped with a bright cilantro vinaigrette and sprinkled with cotija cheese. SIDES: I always get the corn and used to cut mine in half to share with daughter. But not anymore because the manager/IAN advised they offer a kids corn, which is awesome. Perfectly sized for a little kid. Another fave side is the fresh grilled pineapple. DESSERT: Keeping with the green theme we had the key lime pie to share which comes in a little mason jar.
