Decent burritos for a great price. My coworkers and I stopped in here for lunch. There were great vegetarian options and the food was out in less than 5 minutes. Everyone that got chicken said that it was a bit plain. I got the green burrito and it had a great flavor. We all thought it was funny how different our plates looked considering almost all of us got a burrito; some of us had 7 chips on our plate while others had a lot more. The burritos sizes varied too. I've heard good things about this place and was excited to try it. I got the chicken burrito which was a good size and also had some chips and salsa on the side which was nice. The burrito was a normal version (there was a larger burrito with extra toppings) but was flavorful and tasty. The chips were crisp and the salsa was fresh. The service took a bit but they were really busy so it made sense. I would go back if in the area again! read more

What can I say about Cosmic Cantina. This little hole in the wall is down a brick walkway tucked away next to a barber shop. It's not very big but boy does it have the Best Burrito I've had in North Carolina since moving here 9 years ago from California. Steak burrito deluxe was so full of flavor. Wrapped perfectly. Pressed to get it a little toasty on the outside. Filled to the brim with steak, rice , pinto beans cheesy , guac. Next time I want to get the giant burrito! Lol. Service was fast. Sometimes their chicken is super salty. But their catering always pulls through. I love their salsa verde and their their guac is amazing. It does mark up the price a lot, but I fear the deluxe burritos are the way to go. read more

Really tasty burritos. Renovation is all positive. Getting the stuff that makes it a great burrito (deluxe + queso) is expensive.

Good food but kind of absurdly high pricing, and I do understand supply chain issues and markups in meat pricing. The main thing that irked me was the failure to advertise accurate prices. The menu said a steak burrito was ~$13 and there was a note prices may change, which is fair but still I would expect some kind of explicit updates about by how much. I was charged $20, now if it was a small change sure, but a 50% increase in price without it being stated until after I asked for a receipt is a bit ridiculous in my opinion. Regardless it is good food and a staple amongst students, just hope they have some better practices. Not really the late night "cheap" spot anymore by a long shot though read more

Cosmic Cantina is located on UNC-Chapel Hill's campus. It's open for both takeout and delivery, but no dining in. It's usually open until late at night, but they've adjusted their hours because of COVID. I like that each order comes with a small side of chips and there are plenty of vegetarian options too. I got a Chicken Burrito ($8) and I thought it tasted pretty average. It's a packed burrito but it needed more seasoning. But it's a decent amount of food for the price and if you're a college kid scouring for late night food when you're drunk, this is a good option. TLDR: Average burrito but the perfect spot for college kids to satisfy their late night/drunk cravings. read more

Food is decent. I ordered a specific burrito and got it take out. They made is very incorrectly and I noticed after driving 20 minutes home and said that the person making the food was new and didn't know how to make burritos. I called them while at home and drove 20 minutes back to pick up my correct order and they were still not done correcting my order. I waited 30 minutes total to get my correct order. When I drove another 20 minutes home I started to eat my burrito and notice it was a chicken burrito not the steak burrito I ordered. This was the second time in one night they messed up my order and I had already wasted close to an hour trying to get take out from that was not worth it Would NOT recommend this place. The prices are super affordable (even though they recently raised them) and you always get a side of chips with your burrito. The workers are super friendly and the food comes out relatively fast, even during a lunch rush. The restaurant itself totally looks like a hole-in-the-wall place but this restaurant has super affordable, good, and dependable. And they're open late! They've got vegan options, too! This place has been my go to for a cheap late night meal during undergrad (it is open until 4am), and I decided to return as a grad student this past weekend. It is the exact same as I have remember although a bit less sketchy and more refurbished. The food is still really good and cheap (although slightly more expensive than in the past)! In fact, this is one of the places where you can save a lot more money for being vegetarian. There is a lot of variety of things you can order on their menu, and the service is very quick. You can get chips and salsa if you come by this place during the day. I would recommend ordering their burritos, which come in 3 sizes (mini, regular, giant) and the choice of veggie, chicken or steak. The mini is pretty good for a snack while the regular is good for the meal! The giant burrito is the size of two burritos and recommended if you have a huge appetite. You may think that I am crazy for what I am about to say, but I find the Veggie burrito to be just as good as the Chicken burrito, and this is coming from someone who is a meat lover! The veggie burrito is the same as the chicken burrito, but it has black beans (instead of pinto) and no chicken obviously. I like the veggie burrito due to the consistent soft and chewy texture, and it is cheaper! The chicken, however, is pretty darn good although it will cost you a few more dollars. You can also option make your burrito a deluxe (guacamole and sour cream) for even more money. Although it is pretty good, you will pretty much lose the bargain you are getting for your food, which is one of the main reasons I go to Cosmic Cantina. Another item that I would recommend for your buck is the Spinach and Mushroom quesadilla for $3.09. I never knew such a delicious combo existed and made better by having it stuffed into a quesadilla filled with a bunch of cheese! Do not leave Chapel Hill without trying this place, and do not let the obscure location and sketchy appearance drive you out! You will not regret it! read more

I placed a carry out order for two things of chips and queso for a friend and I. Each was $6 which I thought was pricey, but I've heard people rave about their queso so I was willing to pay it. Well when I got back home I saw my $6 queso had been filled halfway in the cup they gave me. At least put it in a smaller container if you're going to do that! From breaking up drunken fights to helping a girl who was bleeding out from her arm onto my burrito, this place is certainly not the place I would recommend for any time earlier than 2-3 AM. It's the typical late night spot for when you're drunk, tired and exhausted from the club or bar hopping and you need to drown yourself in subpar queso and chips. I've never had their food sober, and maybe that's a subconscious decision I've been making for a reason. But I can tell you it tastes great after 4 cranberry vodkas. read more

Cosmic's is a small, order-at-the-counter restaurant with a super casual environment and a location that's conveniently two minutes away from UNC's campus. The food is tasty and relatively cheap (although sour cream and other additions cost extra), the service is friendly enough, and it's open every day until 4:00 AM too, making it ideal for late night "snacks." I came here nearly every other day while taking summer classes last year, at which time they also finally installed an air conditioning system so that it's not a sauna inside when it's hot and a freezer during the winter. Lately, I've been less enthusiastic about going because the portions seem to be getting smaller while the prices remain the same, but Cosmic's still stands as one of my favorite go-to burrito places. read more
