We dropped in on this place after being turned away by many restaurants in DT Durham because we didn't have a reservation and it was a Saturday night, so, I get it. This place has one spot open for us and thank goodness because it was fantastic. I think the most exceptional thing about our dinner was the service. Our waiter was such a delight, as was the rest of the staff. Very knowledgeable and just the right amount of friendly. The food was delicious! We got a steak and pasta dish that I added shrimp to. The steak was cooked exactly as requested and was incredibly tender. My pasta was perfectly al dente and the sauteed shrimp fit in perfectly with the flavors. Our desserts at the end of the night did not disappoint either. Each dessert had it's own unique flare that someone could enjoy and nothing was overly sweet. This was actually my second choice for dinner my first pick was fully booked but honestly, this place completely exceeded my expectations! The inside is absolutely gorgeous I loved the huge mushroom / flower lights, and we scored the cutest little table with the most perfect natural light The food was incredible. We started with the rice balls for an appetizer (9/10 highly recommend), I had the rigatoni (8/10), and my boyfriend went with the New York steak, which he rated an 8.5/10. Everything was delicious. As for the service, I thought our waiter could've been a bit more attentive and personable, though my boyfriend thought he was perfect so that might just be me! I enjoyed lunch with my mom here yesterday. We had to park a little ways away but I don't mind a walk when I'm about to consume carbs! Our server Daniel was very helpful in describing the dishes as my mom always liked to ask what the server recommends. We ordered the focaccia bread, pesce piccata (salmon), and penne alla vodka. Both pasta dishes were outstanding! The salmon on my piccata was cooked perfectly, it was honestly the best piece of salmon I've had in ages. The pasta also tasted like it was freshly made and the lemon butter sauce added the perfect citrus burst to lighten the dish. The penne was also delicious and full of flavor. This was a wonderful spot! We came in on a Friday night around 6:30 and had a reservation but probably could have gotten in without one. The atmosphere was super cute with tall ceilings, bright artwork and lots of natural light. The whole night, our server was really attentive and kind. My favorite things we ordered were the arancini, the focaccia and ricotta and the gnocchi but everything was delicious. This place was awful. We were a group of 6 so we ordered quite a few dishes including appetizers and shared salads. All of the pastas were pretty bad. But the most awful was the clam linguine. 2 people in our group ordered that and it was terrible! First of all we got no clams. They gave us shrimp and mussels instead! One person doesn't eat mussels so they had to get her a new dish which took more time. The other person didn't even get an apology! And it wasn't even linguine! It was mushy angel hair. We asked them how the menu and the dish was so wrong and our poor waiter said it just has been that way and another customer asked the same question. Unbelievable. It was overpriced and just bad. My husband and I happened on this hidden gem when we planned a last minute date night to see Hail Mary at the Silver Spot, and looked for dining options in the area. We were pleasantly surprised by the charming and well-appointed plant-filled space, with cozy emerald velvet chairs and ambient lighting. Gina is one of the best serving professionals we have met in the triangle- attentive and warm, with excellent suggestions for food and wine. We started with raw oysters, which were fresh and delicious, then the burrata salad- an unusual plating, including a mix of vegetables, that was lick the plate fantastic. For our mains we both had pasta- he had the rigatoni and I had the ravioli. Both were excellent. We finished with a rhubarb dessert with a flaky pastry- scrumptious! Visited for the first time with a rehearsal dinner party, so I can't say that our menu options were the same as what is on the standard menu, but I can say that everything we tried was delicious! From the bread to the appetizers to the entrees to the desserts, I don't think there was a single thing that I wasn't excited to try. The penne alla vodka was perhaps the best I've ever had, and I've tried A LOT. Service was awesome, especially given that the restaurant was completely full on a Friday night. Beautiful place with indoor and outdoor seating. We went in the evening and did not have a reservation but were seated inside promptly. It was a very busy evening, but our waiter Noor was exceptional. The food is delicious and it was our first time here. For appetizers we started with the mussels and focaccia bread. You will want to ask for more bread to dip into the mussels broth afterwards. We asked for the chopped salad, which was incredibly delicious and I'm not much of a salad person, but this one was really good. I loved the farro in it, and it gave it a different texture and consistency. For entrees we ordered the brodetto and the flounder alla picatta. Also, the lasagna. I love that the pasta is homemade and the ingredients are fresh. Flavor is delicious. For dessert we did the flourless chocolate cake and the sorbet ice cream. Yes, we had a feast! We wanted to try a few different plates and none disappointed. The price of the food is on the higher end but worth every penny. Definitely worth checking out. We like Osteria Georgi in Chapel Hill. Simply put, this is one of our favorite Italian restaurants in the Triangle, perhaps *the* favorite. We like it more than Cucciolo Osteria in Durham, but both are good. My wife has been here several times with her coworkers for dinner. The repeat visits should be telling enough. I visited with my wife for a Saturday dinner and we had a great experience. This is a perfect date spot, and it works well with groups too. The food, drink, and service were good to great. This place is popular. It was busy the night of our visit. Reservations are recommended. Book your reservation using OpenTable and earn dining points which can be used to redeem restaurant discounts, Amazon gift cards, hotel stays, and magazine subscriptions. Osteria Georgi opened on April 30, 2021. It's part of the successful Giorgios restaurant group. That group includes some of our favorite restaurants in Chapel Hill -- Bin 54 Steak & Cellar and Kipos Greek Taverna. Osteria Georgi is located in the apartment building next to Whole Foods. Free parking is available on the street, in the adjacent lots, and in the attached deck. This is a modern Italian restaurant. It's beautifully and stylishly decorated. High ceilings, lots of natural light, plants, and artwork, and chic (and comfortable) soft velvet chairs. They serve both lunch and dinner. At night, the tables are candle-lit. Nice ambiance. The restaurant is fairly spacious with both indoor and outdoor seating. Outside, the patio wraps around with umbrella-covered tables. During our visit, the menus offered a good variety of food and Italian/Italian-inspired drinks. The wine list was deep. Below is a list of what we got, which will also give you an idea of what the prices were like. We didn't have a single bad item. My favorites were the Ostriche del Giorno, Bucatini, Pork Osso Bucco, and Fruit Crostata. They were all outstanding. My wife agrees with my picks except for the Fruit Crostata. She'd replace it with the Burrata. I thought the Burrata was excellent too. Really, you can't go wrong with anything here. There were a lot of changes to the menus we were given, so many that it might have been worth it to print new ones. I'm sure the servers had a lot of fun explaining all of the changes to every table. One example is the Bucatini we got. Bucatini all'Amatriciana was printed on the menu. However, our version had no tomato, Calabrian chile, or basil. Instead, it was like a hybrid of carbonara and cacio e pepe. It still had pancetta. I don't know what Georgi's original all'Amatriciana version tastes like, but this olive-oil alternative was fantastic. The Pork Osso Bucco was phenomenal. It was one of the best I've had. Most of the ossobucos I've eaten up to this point have been made with veal, not pork. This version was super tender and fall-off-the-bone. The portion size was filling and overall, the dish was quite succulent, from the pork and polenta to the tomatoes and wild mushrooms. Superb. The oysters (Ostriche del Giorno) were fresh with medium brine. We were told they would be brinier, but it was fine. The oysters came from Morehead City, NC. They were some of the best oysters I've had in Chapel Hill-Durham. My only gripe is that there were too many shell bits in the batch. I think it was a shucking issue. The Burrata was above average. Fresh, creamy, and satisfying. Along with that, I think what set Georgi's Burrata apart was the accompanying caprese made with a vodka sauce, grilled squash, and local cherry tomatoes with balsamic drizzled on top. Yum. The drinks and desserts were tasty. The Spritz Lampone Vacanza was very refreshing. The Negroni Bianco was nice and strong. They offered three kinds of negroni. The Chocolate Budino was rich and had an intense dark chocolate flavor. The Fruit Crostata was made with apple, not peach as we were told, but still tasted wonderful. It paired well with the gelato. Service was terrific. Our server Mo was thorough and we could tell he was experienced. Props to all of the other friendly and attentive staff as well. Very pleasantly surprised by this lovely Italian restaurant Food very very good. We had the arancini appetizer, raw oysters, and the focaccia. The bread was a tad dry but the honey butter was delicious. Oysters were really large and very fresh: excellent. Arancini also fantastic. For dinner our table ordered the beet salad (great!), gnocchi with duck (my son said so-so), the agnolotti pasta with scallops (great!), lasagna (very flavorful) and the bone-in pork- cooked PERFECTLY (juicy and not dry at all). This group has several restaurants in the area, including one of our absolute faves, Kipos. Hoping they can open back up soon. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed dinner at Osteria Georgi. The ambiance was nice, service was great, I loved the decor, and a huge plus: the music was not loud at all so we enjoyed our conversation without feel like we had to yell (which I have found is a huge flaw in many local restaurants). We came in from out of town to visit a friend and they mentioned they had been wanting to try this restaurant and we definitely were not disappointed! The restaurant is a modest size with a pretty modern environment that was enjoyable. Right off the bat our server was friendly and quickly made sure to make sure we had all our questions answered. He was attentive and took great care of us! The wine list was plentiful and had a wide variety of options by the bottle or the glass. Additionally, they had a great list of cocktails that give an Italian twist on some classics. For appetizers we had the focaccia and the meatballs and both were fantastic. The meatball was moist and we'll seasoned and the focaccia had a wonderful whipped ricotta it was paired with. For dinner I had the lasagna and it was absolutely delicious. Osteria Georgi is a favorite among several of my groups of friends. We scheduled a date night and sat outside on a Saturday evening. The indoor area was bumping, but there was plenty of room outdoors for our party of 6. The table was not yet prepared for us (we had made reservations a week in advance), but no problem because the hostess fixed it up real quick. The appetizers were lovely, well-presented, tasty, and... well... expensive. Our server pushed the burrata (most expensive antipasto for $19, then pushed the prosciutto for another $9). They were a hit though, so no problem. We all ordered cocktails, which were about $15-16 each. They tasted great, but the large ice cube did a lot of the work with making them seem like a good purchase. Nobody ordered a second drink. The entrees, to me, was where things were above par but not spectacular for the price. The portion sizes were large, which helped, but the food itself wasn't outstanding. I ordered the pesce alla puttanesca ($36) that featured a healthy serving of two swordfish steaks, but I found that I could only eat one steak before I was just kind of done with it. I can't remember the last time I didn't finish my entree at a restaurant. The server brought out a dessert menu, but nobody ordered anything else. Our server was great, attentive but not overbearing. He was always quick to upsell, but it didn't come across pushy. Overall, I can see why OG has the reputation it does in Chapel Hill, although I feel like the prices were enough to keep me from returning anytime soon. I will say it felt cool to be where all the hip, older-skewing, old money Chapel Hillians were hanging out on a Saturday evening. Ok I didn't really know what to expect coming here for the first time. Georgio's restaurants are typically good but this was really fantastic. Came for lunch and was absolutely delighted. Firstly the interior is quite well done, love the lighting. It wasn't crowded so I don't know how it would hold up to noise level. The outside patio was also quite nice. The service was quick and our server was exceptionally nice. The food was really above my expectations. I got a salad with shrimp. Talk about perfectly cooked shrimp. Not tough, not under seasoned delightful delicate sauce. Perfection . I also got the polenta with the fish of the day. The polenta was soft and creamy. We made a reservation for 6pm on a Thursday evening, it was very quiet in there for the first hour and then became very busy! I was glad we arrived when it was quiet, it allowed us plenty of time to ask the waiter some questions. We were not familiar with many of the items on the menu, so we were also looking up certain words. :) The waiter was very attentive to start, but you could tell it became harder for them to check-in once it became busy. The food and drinks were great! I had the Sgroppino Cappelletti spritz drink, which came with a spoon so I could also eat the sorbetto in it. We ordered the pane (bread) to start, which we enjoyed. For my entree, I had the mushroom risotto which was delicious. The chocolate cake and tiramisu were also very good. During our visit one of the restrooms was out of order, so there was only 1 restroom available. Osteria Georgi was recommended to me by multiple people as "the best in Chapel Hill" when I first moved to the area, so I was excited to finally try it with my friends. We enjoyed the appetizers, including roasted Brussel sprouts were honey glazed (very sweet, which surprised & pleased us), the breadboard coming with a white bean spread, and the bruschetta accompanied by chopped chili to add a bit of spice. We all got pasta dishes; the pasta all tasted homemade, and food ingredients (e.g., calms, fish) were fresh. This was not a place to try crazy-flavored & creative pasta dishes, but it offers simple yet authentic taste. Our favorite thing about the place was the artsy and classic ambiance. Decorated by various plants and paintings, even though it was so packed at 6 pm when we arrived, the space did not feel loud or overwhelming. All the servers were efficient and personable. Started off with a cherry crush, a NA spicy/herby drink, like a sweet bitters. Moved onto the apps, tried the meatballs which were a meal in themselves, and the chopped salad, a crunchy mix of raddichio and farro. The flounder Piccata was perfect, and I don't say that often. A beautiful filet served over a thin tagliatelle, in a light creamy lemony piccata sauce. Portions are just right, and the servers are on point. The only blemish was lack of a sole vegetarian entree.
